Scallop Farming: Ear-Hanging vs Lantern Nets
A recent study comparing scallop farming methods found that ear-hanging culture results in better growth outcomes than lantern net culture. Scallops grown using the ear-hanging method had slightly larger shell heights and up to 12% more adductor muscle weight. While ear-hanging scallops thrived in optimal temperatures between 50–59°F and grew faster, they were more vulnerable to colder winter temperatures compared to those in lantern nets. These findings suggest ear-hanging culture may be more advantageous for commercial growers seeking faster growth and improved meat yield under the right environmental conditions.

Water chemistry
Water chemistry is the scientific study of the chemical properties, processes, and interactions of water in various environments. It encompasses the analysis of water's composition, including dissolved minerals, salts, gases, and organic compounds. Water chemistry plays a vital role in understanding ecosystems, industrial processes, drinking water quality, and environmental sustainability. Key areas include pH balance, salinity, alkalinity, and the impact of pollutants. Applications range from wastewater treatment and desalination to aquatic life conservation and climate change mitigation.
