Schlagwerk RT "RIQ" Riqq Frame Drum レビュー
youtube

i have ABSOLUTELY no idea who to talk to about sheilat music (an upbeat genre of arabic music thats a mix of modern and traditional folk) and the microtone scales used in it. idk if its maqam rast scale or what but thats what i think is used ???? like i know what instruments are mainly used in the genre but id have to talk to an arab musician who likes sheilat cuz FUCK!!!! i wanna KNOW for sure what the scales are
#ive been big into a few arab musicians lately that are popular in the sheilat genre and its been fun learning about that stuff#the musicians i like so far are fahad bin falsa and bandar bin oweer. but especially fahad! love his voice#but yeah however i do not know music theory and all that shit despite being a musician myself#and of course learning about microtones and stuff thats used in middle eastern music has been fun#but cannot be achieved with western instruments cuz typically western scales are limited to minor and major scales and not microtonal cuz#they dont have the notes#but yeah like im trying to identify the specific scales in the songs i like but idk enough about music theory let alone#middle eastern music theory so#wehhhhh#idk who to ask

Encart 97 World Music Tour Sacred Sufi Music and Ney
1997
Stills taken from Youtube, user RollOnToVictory
I absolutely loved this one! My dad's side is Lebanese and Syrian and I swear my ears knew that because I've loved Middle Eastern music since I was a kid and before I delved into learning about my heritage.

i used to really like listening to pop radio but my local pop hits radio nowadays straight up only plays hit songs from 2017 and maybe like. 1-2 new-ish drake songs for cancon purposes. its dire. its really dire you guys.
#maybe i need to intervene. do they still take call in requests. i need to check#other radios are good tho. my dad likes to play like. local french stations and local arabic stations because he doesnt know those language#and he likes to hear music he doesnt understand (apple doesnt fall far from the tree LOL) and he also likes the university student radios#because they play all kinds of random experimental instrumental stuff which rules#in heavy traffic like fully stopped traffic he likes to put on classical music because the contrast makes him laugh#since i cant drive yet hes in control of the radio. when i bike i usually listen to. a big playlist of all love live songs jkfshjgfsd#all love live songs minus the two that have sirens in them to be precise. sirens is scary for the cyclist#anyway nowadays most of access to hit songs is through like. whatever playlist grocery stores put on

New video released today on Youtube. "Qataban" produced by Shahin.
This is the sequel to his previous release "Anuket", continuing th theme of offering solidarity & support to the women and girls of Afghanistan, Iran and Nigeria fighting bravely for their rights against oppressive regimes, a message also extended to all around the world suffering physical & mental abuse and injustice.
At a turbulent time for global politics where attentions have focused elsewhere, it's a timely reminder that their plight has not been forgotten, they are still seen, and they will prevail with dignity.

I've never really put much attention to it because the majority of the content I have always engaged with is either in arabic /darija/ italian (which are my native languages) or english (which I'm fluent in) or french and spanish that I can understand to a decent extent, so I can fill the gap whenever google translate doesn't get it.
Only now, trying to translate tweets in a language I absolutely have 0 knowledge in as turkish, I'm really realising how utter shit google translate is. And it's kind of frustrating because it's not this shit with english or french or spanish or italian. If this is not political I don't know what it is. There's no linguistics explanation as to why this tool only works decent with just a bunch of "powerful" european languages
#it's like they have the tools to make life less miserable but they don't use it.#like idk how my moots who don't speak arabic can deal with trying to follow up on moroccan news on the nt cause.#and the fact darija is a “dialect” means nothing. they have all the measures to provide people with good translating instruments
