HC Snippets: Big Waves' Sydney Trio
...I'll admit that @//hachiiware's ask left me wanting to go on detail about other BW families other than Quincy's; so here's a compilation of my ideas for the main three.
Tumblr media
Like I've said, Nice, Jean and Reef all live in Sydney, and attend the same school and soccer team. This is also where Robert teaches, all too convenient.
Though there's just one detail to address, that Jean was born in Victoria. After a certain family incident his mother preferred to start a new life in Sydney instead.
Nice and Jean met at the beach by a curious encounter. One typical day where his caregiver took him to the beach, Jinbei saw a blonde boy practising surf alongside his father. Impressed by the sport, he decided to combat his shyness and approach him. Despite the surprise, Nice acted friendly enough with the mysterious child, even inviting him to learn surf too. Such fun afternoon would be the start of a great friendship.
From there on, Nice and Jean would invite each other to their homes, or in some cases they'd go to his caregiver's house to watch his anime collection (Even if Nice was weirded out by the japanese cartoons). Around the time of Primary School, both boys got interested on soccer and started to practice together. Thanks to their dedication (And perhaps some potential within them), the two completely killed it once they entered the world of Secondary School/Junior High soccer; carrying their team to the finals. They might have lost aganist a team from Queensland, sure, but nothing too bad.
On their second year it would be when things got a sudden twist with the entrance of Reef Hamilton to their school, team... And friend group.
Reef had an entirely different upbringing than them. His father was the owner of a popular hotel chain across eastern australia, so he would always go into vacation somewhere new. But although he was able to meet new faces everytime, Reef preferred to isolate himself, enjoying to be at the beach. And with the teachings of his mother -a diving instructor-, that meant also spending most of his time underwater. Even when it wasn’t summertime Reef would be seen apart from the other kids.
Even if his parents tried to set his child to interact with others many times, Reef overall seemed to have problems on forging and continuing conversations, which started to raise some concerns. Just to make sure they decided to investigate a bit, and soon enough they found out their child was on the Autism Spectrum. Understanding now and accepting what their son had, they assigned him a therapist as means to help him in life, but still prioritizing his own wishes.
For a long time Reef's interests had been only about marine biology, leading to him writing entire pages about the fish he'd see on vacation. But after seeing Nice and Jean's performance on TV, he would soon develop interest on soccer. And soon he'd meet Robert Cliser, local counselor and a huge lover of the sport, who offered himself to help Reef integrate to the team while also training it.
So yeah, things went well. Reef's fun yet clever atitude blended with the two sea bros, making a well addition to their friend group. Nice and Reef were quick to bond, but with Jean it had its difficulty. What ended up uniting him however was none than Jean's mother, Bea Baker. Her being a former marine biologist soon caught Reef's attention, making him visit her small bakery weekly. The two players got soon used to each other eventually, specially since Jean did like sealife too.
Bea likes to consider Reef a second son, but Jean doesn't feel fond of that.
Now, let's talk about the Great Barrier Reef. The hissatsu, I mean. I like to attribute its origin to the fondness for the sea the trio had. Since his early beginnings in soccer Jean liked to use the sea to hone his skills, and the idea of using marine wildlife to defend the goal didn't seem that bad. So since his first years he had been working on it, but Reef's dedication and knowledge of the actual barrier helped to polish it better. Nowadays GBR is the most powerful keeper hissatsu Australia has to offer, but also a love letter to the country's natural wonder. Whenever someone uses it, Reef feels very happy.
...I guess that's the important stuff. Outside of soccer, the three like to play other sports such as beach voleyball, bowling, and surfing obviously. Jean leans it more into windsurfing but y'know, still fits.
Joe Jones/Jaws is the fourth wheel of this friend group but I'll touch it later on.
Bonus regarding adulthood; but post FFI Nice and Jean kept playing soccer, till he got into the more professional world. Reef played gladly until soccer, but a certain self-reflection he had made him instead dedicate himself into marine biology. He studies at the local Sydney Sunshore university; and yes, he if he struggles with studies, he goes to visit Bea. Best tutor ever!

This isn’t really ace related, but I don’t know where to ask this. I live in Victoria, Australia, and face masks have just been made mandatory, effective Thursday. I have anxiety, and whenever something is covering my mouth and nose I feel like I’m suffocating and I start having a panic attack. How can I deal with having to wear a mask for 8 hours every day at school?
If I was you’d I’d wear the mask for short periods of time in low stress environments. That way you can help associate that the mask isn’t going to hurt you. Let’s say you can’t stand even a minute right now. Literally go somewhere and listen to music or wherever makes you feel the most calm. Do breathing exercises to remind yourself you can, say a mantra, whatever stuff helps you get through the 60 seconds. Once you can do a minute, up to time to 5 minutes. I don’t know if school is in right now, ours isn’t. So you may have time to practice. If you don’t have time to practice weigh different types of masks. Each type has a different amount of breathability and you can try to better balance keeping yourself safe (on multiple fronts) and keeping others safe. Also talk to your teachers or school admin or someone who might be able to be in a position of authority that says okay you are excused early to go sit outside by yourself and finish reading the assignment or whatever. If any followers have other ideas please leave them in the comments/reblog. Thanks!!

• Richard Cresswell (Australian RAAF Pilot)
Richard (Dick) Cresswell, DFC was an officer and pilot in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). He held command of No. 77 (Fighter) Squadron twice during World War II, and again during the Korean War.
Richard Cresswell was born in Franklin, near Launceston, Tasmania, on July 27th, 1920. He was the only child of English immigrants George Cresswell, an engineer, and his wife Constance. His father died when Dick was three-and-a-half, and he later moved to Sydney with his mother. For three years he lived with another family in Balgowlah, and commenced his schooling at Manly West. He again lived with his mother in Potts Point between 1931 and 1938, continuing his education at Double Bay and Randwick. After leaving Randwick High School in 1935, he began technical studies at Ultimo as part of an electrical apprenticeship. Fired partly by his mother's stories of joy flights in pre-war Britain, and a desire to become a flying boat captain for Imperial Airways, Cresswell applied to join the Royal Air Force (RAF) in September 1937. Receiving no answer from the RAF, he applied for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), and was accepted. He entered No. 1 Flying Training School at Point Cook, Victoria, as an air cadet in July 1938. His first posting was to No. 3 (Army Cooperation) Squadron at Richmond, New South Wales, where he began flying Hawker Demon fighters in July 1939. Cresswell recalled a mix of excitement and panic within the squadron when World War II broke out two months later: "The second night we all slept on the hangar floor next to our aircraft. Imagine it: there was war over in Europe and here we were at action stations!"
After a brief posting to Point Cook in early 1940, Cresswell undertook the instructors' course at Central Flying School in Camden, New South Wales. He then became an instructor at No. 2 Service Flying Training School, which was formed at Wagga Wagga in July and operated Avro Ansons and CAC Wirraways. The school's commander, Frederick Scherger, advised Cresswell to grow a moustache to overcome his youthful appearance. He was promoted to flight lieutenant in January 1941. Following the bombing of Darwin by Japanese forces in February 1942, Cresswell was posted to Williamtown as a liaison officer with the 9th Squadron of the US 49th Pursuit Group (later the 49th Fighter Group), which operated P-40 Kittyhawks and would shortly transfer to Darwin to provide air defence. The RAAF had meanwhile raised three fighter units. Nos. 75, 76 and 77 Squadrons ,equipped with Kittyhawks recently delivered from the United States. Cresswell, newly promoted to squadron leader, assumed command of No. 77 Squadron at Pearce, Western Australia, on April 20th. At twenty-one, he was younger than most of his personnel. Drawing on his technical experience at Westinghouse, he encouraged his pilots to respect their aircraft and the ground crews that maintained them.
Cresswell led the squadron in the defence of Darwin against Japanese raiders and claimed its first aerial victory on November 23rd,1942, when he destroyed a Mitsubishi "Betty" bomber. It was the first "kill" for an Australian squadron over the mainland, and the first night victory over Australia. When he returned to base and was asked what he felt like, Cresswell replied, "Breakfast". In February 1943, after No. 1 (Fighter) Wing and its three Supermarine Spitfire squadrons became operational in the Darwin area, No. 77 Squadron was transferred to Milne Bay in New Guinea. The Japanese attacked Milne Bay on April 14th, and Cresswell claimed one of four bombers (and a fighter) credited to No. 77 Squadron. The next month, No. 77 Squadron began moving to Goodenough Island, where it was controlled by No. 73 Wing. As Japanese fighter opposition was limited, Cresswell led the squadron in several ground-attack missions over New Britain. He was due to hand over command to his designated successor, Flight Lieutenant Daryl Sproule, on August 2nd, but Sproule crash-landed during a raid the same day and was captured and executed by the Japanese. As a result, Cresswell remained in command another three weeks.
On August 28th, 1943, Cresswell was ordered to report to Port Pirie, South Australia, for "flying duties", but found instead that he was to be court-martialled for "conduct to the prejudice of good order and Air Force discipline". The charge arose from an incident in July 1942, when Cresswell had stayed overnight at Port Pirie's mess and had fired his revolver into the floor next to the feet of another officer who apparently had been annoying him. Cresswell was found guilty and lost three months' seniority. He considered resigning his commission but was placated by the Air Member for Personnel, Air Commodore Frank Lukis. Cresswell was promoted to wing commander in January 1944, backdated three months to eliminate the penalty of his court-martial. After instructing at No. 2 Operational Training Unit in Mildura, Victoria, Cresswell was appointed wing leader of No. 1 Wing on February 25th, 1944, at the specific request of its commander, Group Captain Peter Jeffery, to help reduce Spitfire accident rates. Cresswell left on May 12th to become wing leader and temporary commander of No. 81 (Fighter) Wing in Townsville, Queensland. Comprising three Kittyhawk squadrons, including No. 77, the wing transferred to Noemfoor in western New Guinea as part of No. 10 Operational Group. Cresswell arrived at Noemfoor on September 26th, 1944 to be informed by No. 81 Wing's new commander, Group Captain Gordon Steege, that he did not need a wing leader. Instead, Steege assigned Cresswell to command No. 77 Squadron, for the second time during the war. Cresswell questioned the decision through official channels, with the result that he retained the position of wing leader, as well as the command of No. 77 Squadron. The wing flew 1,125 sorties against Japanese buildings, stores and transport in October and November, dropping over 400,000 pounds (180,000 kg) of bombs for the loss of fifteen aircraft and eleven pilots.
The following month, Group Captain Wilfred Arthur replaced Steege as commander of No. 81 Wing, and Cresswell handed over command of No. 77 Squadron, while continuing to serve as wing leader. Arthur recommended Cresswell for a Distinguished Flying Cross. By the wars end Cresswell was on the twelve-week War Staff Course at the RAAF Staff School in Mount Martha, Victoria, when hostilities ended in the Pacific; the course finished on September 28th, 1945. He was then tasked with developing a P-51 Mustang conversion course, to train pilots for service with No. 81 Wing, comprising three Mustang squadrons, including No. 77, as part of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force in Japan. Cresswell served initially as the CCU's chief instructor, and then as commanding officer from March 29th, 1947. At the same time, he took command of the Williamtown base, as well as No. 78 (Fighter) Wing, which controlled two Mustang squadrons and several ancillary units, but Cresswell remained in command of Williamtown and No. 78 Wing until March 1948.
After a posting to Amberley, Queensland, Cresswell served on the directing staff of the first two courses held at the newly formed RAAF Staff College, Point Cook. On July 10th, 1950, he was appointed commanding officer of No. 21 (City of Melbourne) Squadron, a Citizen Air Force unit based at Laverton and equipped with Mustangs crewed by reserve pilots. Cresswell was unimpressed by what he saw as the casual attitude displayed by his part-time pilots and soon had them practising appropriate fighter tactics. When the Korean War broke out on June 25th, 1950, No. 77 Squadron was the only remaining RAAF unit of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF) in Japan. Cresswell was despatched to replace the squadrons commanding officer in September. Cresswell thus became the only officer to lead the same RAAF squadron on three occasions during wartime. In an unusual move, the RAAF did not raise him to wing commander; he became No. 77 Squadron's longest-serving commanding officer of the Korean War, but also the only one ranked squadron leader. On April 20th 1951, the Americans awarded Cresswell the Air Medal for "meritorious service" and the Distinguished Flying Cross for "superior flying ability and extraordinary achievement". He was recommended for the Commonwealth Distinguished Flying Cross for "leadership of high order" on October 23rd, 1951; the award was promulgated on January 8th, 1952. Upon returning to Australia, Cresswell was promoted to wing commander and appointed Fighter Staff Member at the RAAF Directorate of Operations. In late 1952 he was "dared" to fly from the Royal Australian Navy aircraft carrier HMAS Sydney, and did so in a Hawker Sea Fury after completing conversion. After the Korean War ended Cresswell continued to serve as a fighter instructor. On December 3rd, 1954, Cresswell led a formation of twelve No. 2 OTU Vampires in the shape of two sevens over Sydney to greet No. 77 Squadron upon its return from Korea aboard the aircraft carrier HMAS Vengeance. Cresswell was posted to RAAF Headquarters, Melbourne, as Director of Air Staff Policy. The position put him in line for promotion to group captain but, as he admitted later, "I had itchy feet and I felt the Service had already given me all the operational flying I was likely to get." He decided to resign his commission in December 1956, and was discharged from the RAAF in April 1957.
In June 1957, Cresswell became regional manager of a Melbourne firm salvaging metal from the battlefields of New Guinea, but the company wound up its operations in Australasia barely a month later. Cresswell flew Noorduyn Norseman and Junkers Ju 52 aircraft out of Goroka until October 1958, when he was hospitalised with hepatitis. He attempted to rejoin the RAAF the following year but was found to be suffering from malaria and dengue fever, as well as the after-effects of hepatitis. In October 1959, he joined de Havilland Australia to fly DHC-2 Beavers in Antarctica. Cresswell's first marriage had failed after his return from the Korean War in 1951. He married Margaret Schwennesen, a pilot, on December 23rd,1959, he had two daughters. Cresswell began flying in Antarctica in January 1960, mapping sections of the continent claimed by Australia. De Havilland then assigned Cresswell to fly personnel and equipment for Australian Blue Metal in northern and central Australia. Between November 1960 and March 1961 he was involved in another Antarctic expedition, but in the end did little flying. De Havilland subsequently appointed Cresswell its sales representative in Canberra; in this capacity he travelled abroad and on one occasion flew the DHC-4 Caribou. After a series of minor heart attacks and two bypass operations, Cresswell resigned from de Havilland late in 1974 to live in South-East Queensland; his family elected to remain in Canberra. Cresswell continued his interest in military aviation, maintaining his RAAF connections, and patronising the Australian War Memorial (AWM) and the No. 77 Squadron Association. After divorcing Margaret, he married a third time in 1979 but his new wife died two years later, and he returned to Canberra in the mid-1980s at the urging of his daughters. In 1992 he led members of No. 77 Squadron in a march through the streets of Perth, which had granted the unit freedom of entry in recognition of its role in the city's defence fifty years earlier. Cresswell died in Canberra of a heart attack on December 13th, 2006, aged eighty-six, and was survived by his second wife Margaret and their two daughters. His funeral was held at the Royal Military College, Duntroon, which was overflown by four F/A-18 Hornet jet fighters from No. 77 Squadron in a "missing man" formation.

i do want to talk about the future of this blog though,, i started it back up in 2018 because i was bored and had an overwhelming love for stray kids. i still do love them, they hold a very special place in my heart, but my interests do change. i haven’t lost interest in kpop, and i doubt i ever will tbh, but i do tend to go through stages of very strongly loving a group. i’ll admit i’ve become a very lazy stay ;;; i haven’t seen their most recent comeback yet, and i probably won’t for another month if i’m honest. and i feel terrible that i have this blog running knowing that i have no motivation to write, let alone for stray kids at this moment. i’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this, and honestly, i don’t think i will continue writing anytime in the near future. if i get extremely motivated i might make a multifandom blog, but thats unlikely at this point. of course, this blog has been amazing, i’ve met some people i really treasure and i’ve always really enjoyed writing, but i’m in the last two years of high school. i already feel under immense pressure because of how well my sibling did during their hsc and from past comments made by some of my teachers. of all the things i have heard about being a senior in highschool, very little of them are positive and reassuring. most of it is drilling into us about how hard we have to work, about how this grade wouldn’t be acceptable in year 11/12, etc.. it’s exhausting. as much joy and love this blog has brought me, it has also brought a large amount of stress ;;; i used to constantly check my phone to see how my posts were doing, i would worry about how many notes posts were getting and the ratios. i was always stressed about not being able to write while i had assignments.
so i’ve decided that i think, for now, i will leave this blog. considering all that i have heard about how difficult year 11 and 12 is, and the standards that have been set for me, i feel that it will be best for me to focus on my studies. i know i haven’t posts much in the past months, but i was always thinking about it, even though i lack the motivation in this current moment. i will of course leave this blog up along with all of the posts. i will also still maybe check in from time to time. if anyone wants to stay mutuals/talk to me, just message me and i will give you my main blog <33
thank you for all the love and support over the years. this blog was a lot of fun, and i will never forget any of you <3333
love, viv
(p.s. i hope all of my aussie followers are doing alright with the fires!! i am very lucky that i don’t live in a rural area, but the smoke here in sydney has been awful :(( please please please take care of yourselves, and make sure you always have a bag packed with the necessities if you are near any fires in case you need to evacuate!! ily all sm i will keep my thoughts of you all in my heart <3 if anyone needs to talk then i will always be here okay!! please stay safe <3  also, if anyone is in a good financial situation, please do donate to help us! fires have been burning since september, we have lost millions of hectares of land, our wildlife is dying and so many precious lives have been lost. as of now, if the koala count drops below 50,000 in the wild then koalas may be declared fundamentally extinct, meaning that we will not be capable of repopulating the species. i will link some websites below to where you can help firefighters, wildlife and families in need <3)

I whipped up this oh-so-fancy banner to add a post in my links list of my Sherlock crossover WIPs so that I can cross them off when I finish them without having to take AO3s word I have 60+ WIPs when I get a few of them showing up multiple times in the search engine. This is the year I finish these fuckers if it kills me. If you want any of these updated, just send me one ask per fic so I can reply with the new chapter!
A Midsummer Night's Escape (Doctor Who/Sherlock; Sherlock/Amy, Rory/Molly) - For years, the Holmes family and the Ponds family have been better enemies, spilling blood in their fight to control London's magical community. But Sherlock and Amelia don't care; they only have eyes for each other. One evening the two of them, along with Sherlock's friend Margaret and Amelia's intended husband Rory, begin their escape to Wales and eventually the States to escape the violence and follow their dreams. But once they get separated in a forest controlled by the fae on their way to Leadworth, things don't go quite the way they had planned...but perhaps will be better in the end.
All The Troubles In The Universe Just Sitting At My Doorstep (Sherlock/Doctor Who/Supernatural/Torchwood; Lestrade/Molly, Rory/Amy, Eleven/River) - It's the end of the world as they know it, or at least the end of London. Possibly the rest of the world and the universe as a whole after that. Can Lestrade and the team he's gathered fight a reincarnated Moriarty who's possessed by a King of Hell and the Dalek he's controlling without killing each other first?
Cocaine Blues (Reimagined) (Sherlock/Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries fusion; pre-Sherlock/Molly) - After years away from Australia, Molly Hooper returns to make sure the man who kidnapped and killed her sister never sees the light of day again. But on her first day back in Melbourne, she gets wrapped up in the death of a friend’s husband, which is not quite as simple as it initially appears.
Is Love Worth The Cost Of It All? (Sherlock/Star Trek AOS; Khan/Molly, Mary/Janine, Lestrade/Sally) - For nearly a year now, Molly Hooper has been spinning yarns about her hunk of a boyfriend, basing his physical appearance on her co-worker and rival, Sherlock Holmes. When it comes time to bring this mysterious boyfriend to light for a destination wedding in Costa Rica, however, Molly starts to wonder if she can pull this off, until Mary "borrows" Sherlock's black book he keeps story notes in and encourages Molly to use his notes from the escort article to hire her own escort for the wedding, and she knows just the one. And CommanderJH, or John Harrison, as Molly finds out through their online correspondence before the wedding, is almost an exact duplicate for Sherlock, though with the ability to turn off the same loathsome personality traits Sherlock has. She has to admit, though, she rather likes the nice side of John that doesn't always go away when there isn't a crowd. And he dresses so much better. And his kisses...well, they're absolutely breathtaking. But everyone has secrets that all threaten to blow up when Sherlock shows up at the resort, demanding certain things that belong to him.
Not How It Was Planned (Sherlock/Star Trek AOS; McCoy/Molly) - Nyota & Molly go to Pat O'Brien's to have a girl's night out, but when Nyota reveals she knows Khan is Molly's ex Molly decides that the solution to her problem of too many depressing thoughts in her head is to get pissed, and so she has one hurricane after another, and then she gets on her mobile and begins texting her boyfriend.
On The Case Again (Sherlock/Criminal Minds; Sherlock/Prentiss) - This case was a chance for both Sherlock and Prentiss to get back in the thick of things, back to solving the complicated and twisty cases, and maybe find a new friend as well.
Playing The Game: Act II – Knights & Knowledge, Romance & Regret (Sherlock/Marvel Cinematic Universe; Sherlock/Molly) - After tracking down Phil Coulson and his team, Molly and the others join him on their hunt for Grant Ward so that Molly can get retribution for Victoria’s death and Nat and Clint can further Fury’s assignment to help deal with all of the escapees from the Fridge. But as things get more complicated with the appearance of the Diviner and all the entails, Molly begins to wonder if she will ever get her end goal of Ward disappearing in a deep dark hole where no one can find him.
Surrounded (Sherlock/Doctor Who; Rory/Amy, John/Mary) - The day that Sherlock Holmes returns from the dead he comes back bearing a message for two of John's new friends, Rory & Amelia Williams: old enemies are coming after you. This message leads to worlds colliding as Amy, Rory, Sherlock, John, Mary and the later addition of River Song have to fend off Weeping Angels from trying to pick them off while they're trapped in Baker Street.
The Crack In The Wall (Doctor Who/Sherlock; Sherlock/Amy) - Sherlock and Amy, together, can face the world. They can survive the weirdness in their lives. But the hope they have as children slowly fades until one day, when they're grown and more than a bit battered from the weirdness, the Doctor returns and whisks them away after saving the world.
The Tale Of The Ruined Vacation (Sherlock/Elementary; Greg/Joan, BBC!Irene/Elementary!Sherlock) - Lestrade finally gets to come visit Joan in New York, but their plans go awry when they're forced to work on a cross-jurisdictional case.
To Begin The World Over Again (Sherlock/Doctor Who/Torchwood; Sherlock/Amy, Mickey/Martha, Eleven/River) - One day Amy Pond asks to find out if there's a parallel Earth somewhere where she's a Queen. When the Doctor looks and finds out there is, and Amy is a tyrant who took over the world with Sherlock Holmes, he recruits old friends to help overthrow the government, along with a reluctant Sherlock. But there's a bigger mystery at play: why do some people remember certain events differently, or don't remember them at all? And why is this trip not in River's book?
When In University... (Sherlock/Doctor Who; Sherlock/Amy) - Sherlock Holmes was a jerk the first time she met him. She had no idea how much he was going to grow on her as time went on...

Today has been kinda shit
I was happy this morning because I spoke to the program lead at TAFE (also Deaf) about an assignment that’s causing me problems because it’s big and all in English (both material and how we’re meant to submit it), and if in English I’m going to need one-on-one support, though I’d much rather just do it in Auslan. I fucked up big time going to Ablelink + Able Australia + Deafblind Victoria yesterday (got so anxious I stopped being able to communicate in both Auslan and English, so I felt like an incompetent asshole), so it made me feel a lot better that I wasn’t struggling to communicate today.
And then this afternoon happened, and went downhill from there. We had a comprehension assessment, and I fucked up the English written component (I missed a word and wrote “Kate” instead of “Kate’s”) and was chastised by my teacher (who was really understanding about my difficulties with English this morning—also Deaf herself), then we had to do our signed component, which was in a fucking hallway so people (teachers included) kept walking through, and then my teacher got in the way of the video right at the end too, so my partner and I don’t have an acceptable (by the school’s standards) video to upload.
Now I’m exhausted, my chair’s fucking heavy and shit so even though I want to go out for a roll, I can’t because the area is a nightmare to navigate with this old sack of shit—the NDIS is still unhelpful wrt my mobility needs. They’re pretty much only helpful with Deaf stuff, not even blind stuff or my actual mobility needs.
To make matters worse, my OT completely fucked up my SDA report (apparently I have Muscular Dystrophy now, according to him???), so now I need to submit a complaint about that, I have TAFE tomorrow, Deaf social I don’t know anyone at tomorrow evening, and Fringe Festival events on both Saturday and Sunday nights. The last three I’m looking forward to, but I worry about now I’m feeling fucking awful. Monday is my ERG, so that’s going to be (not) fun. The next Monday I have a meeting. The Monday after another MRI, and two days later a rheumatology appointment at an inaccessible practise. The Monday after that, see my ophtho again, and... I just need to fucking stop for a little. My life is fucking go, go, go, go. No room for room. No room for me time. I’m also fucking moving now (against my wishes, because fuck safety and inaccessibility), so I have to deal with that too.
Fuck life right now.
I need rest. I need me time. I need things to slow down. I can’t keep up. It’s fucking crushing me.

silence ! raise the royal standard, for the prince of russia and king consort of england, MAKSIM ROMANOV, has arrived. being 27 years old, he is out of line to the throne. many around the court call him the mutineer, by virtue of him being dexterous and maverick, while also being  recalcitrant and brazen.  — played by brenton thwaites.
- THE BASICS.
full name: maksim alexei romanov name meaning: maksim ‘the greatest’, alexei ‘defender’ known in history as: king in the shadows, the white wolf date of birth: june 21st, 1639/1992 age: twenty six star sign: cancer profession: freelance photographer (modern verse) / prince of russia, king consort of england (royal verse) loyalty: russia, house romanov, england and house windsor, the entente alignment: chaotic good mbti: estp spoken languages: russian, english, advanced french, intermediate german (royal verse) / english, russian, basic spanish (modern verse) mother’s name: tsarina tatyana romanovna father’s name: tsar ivan romanov siblings, if any: anastasia romanovna-du bourbon, dmitri romanov, vasiliy romanov, karina romanovna height: 6’0” hair colour: brown eye colour: dark brown
- BACKSTORY / MODERN VERSE.
it was an odd thing being born as one half of a whole. coming into the world knowing you would always have another at your side through every new experience. maksim and dmitri romanov were two sides of the same coin from the day they first wailed their first cry. growing up, maksim was determined to stick by his brother’s side for everything. for a time it had only been the three of them. just anastasia, dmitri and him. they had forged a bond early in those days, sharing absolutely everything with eachother that would translate into their adulthood. maksim was patient with his siblings, understanding and above all else, never judged them.
growing up under the roof of the infamous media moguls, tatyana and ivan romanov, meant that maksim came with a brand that would follow him everywhere. one that only grew when the family began starring on their own reality tv show. everything he knew about himself, he discovered on the cameras. his whole personality shaped around the person he was expected to be for a show. he was less keen of the cameras than his siblings, but his appearances often provided the comic relief with his brother and he became a hit with the younger audience. the first time he’d seen something he’d said on a t-shirt had still been pretty wild though.
because of the huge spotlight on the family, the twins were sent off to boarding school for their education where there would hopefully be less scrutiny. most of the kids there had parents far too rich to bother about another one joining their rankings, afterall. and it proved to be one of the most helpful periods of his life. boarding school offered him the chance to decide who he wanted to be because trying to work out who you were with a camera shoved in your face was near impossible. though he never consciously made the decision, he had constructed a character in his years on the show, one that would meet the expectations of viewers watching. if anastasia was going to play the part of overbearing older sister, then he would play the lovable but dimwitted jock brother. and for years that’s who he styled himself as.
in truth, maksim was all that and more. yes he liked rebelling and making trouble, but he was happiest at home with a good book or at the local art gallery. whilst he loved any and all sports, his shelves were filled with comic books and limited edition collectibles. it was away from the rest of his family that he could finally grow into himself. realise the things he truly enjoyed to do, the things that he was good at that he didn’t have to share with his other four siblings.
boarding school proved to be destiny in more ways than one. as maksim was finding himself, it led him straight to the love of his life. victoria was at the local girls boarding school, and it took just one school dance for him to fall utterly head over heels for her. they dated all throughout school, never once tiring of the other. she was a grounding force for him, encouraging him to focus on what he wanted and go for it. and in turn he brought thrill to her life that she lacked with such rigid family expectations. they were a perfect match all things considered, and so it was to no ones surprise ( and karina’s absolute horror ) that maks proposed. the couple are now planning for their wedding, which promises to be a grand summer spectacle to all those lucky enough to earn an invite.
whilst he had everything he wanted in victoria, his future still remained a murky mess. every year, maks would go to his careers interview with his school adviser. and every year, he would shrug his shoulders when asked what it was he wanted to do with his life. he knew that his mother was desperate for him to go off to university as anastasia had, and that all hopes were on him because there was no way they’d be able to wrestle dmitri into another classroom once he was off scot-free. and so, despite the fact that he had exactly zero interest in it, when the time rolled around maksim applied to study history. at least it would get the careers adviser off his back, and college might be fun - right?
wrong. maksim managed to make it through a month of studying before he went home to go to a concert he’d planned with dima months ago. and then never went back. literally never. sayonara to all those shiny pots and pans his parents had gifted him, and the macbook that had one half finished assignment on it and not much else. and so he was back to square one.
rather than sit around at home moping for the camera, maksim took off for a year and went travelling. sure the family had been on some pretty decent holidays over the years, but he wanted to see more. he sent various postcards home from his time in thailand, indonesia and brazil. with everywhere in between. eventually he settled in australia for six months, taking up odd jobs where he could and collecting a group of like-minded friends. all people running away from adult responsibilities for that little bit longer. so while his girlfriend was earning herself a useful degree, maksim was surfing and bungee jumping his way through his inheritance.
it was during his time in australia that he discovered his love for photography. he’d always loved art, and shown bounds of creativity growing up. whenever he grew too anxious or was failing to concentrate, it was drawing that often centered him. just doodles at first, then panels of his favourite characters from comics. but it was travelling where he really began to utilise the natural eye he had. what began as photographs to share on his instagram, turned into scrapbooks that he would send to victoria to keep her as involved as possible in his life. it was a happy accident that people began to take notice really. the odd person began asking him to take photos of this and that, offering to pay for a headshot here and a small wedding there. nothing major, but enough that maks began to consider it as a real career option. with ana’s persistent encouragement and help, he set up his first photography instagram and took the first step into adulthood.
upon his return to the states, maksim got serious ( as serious as he was capable ) about his career as a freelance photographer. he set up his own website and bookings flooded in. most were either mocking him for his family’s name, or fans, but enough that he could really begin to make a living out of it. with most of his inheritance depleted, it made the whole going out on his own thing all that more tangible and exciting. plus, the freelancing gave him the opportunity to keep up with everything else he wanted to do in life. never making him feel too tied down with responsibility. he could work his jobs around whatever holiday or event he had planned. he didn’t need to hang up his thrill-seeking for good in exchange for the not-so-promised land of being a grown up.
maks is still a photographer, and in the midst of wedding planning. he still makes frequent appearances on the romanov reality show with his other siblings, all of whom he keeps in very close contact with. he splits his time between his parents house and the home he shares with victoria and his pet, danya. finally, he has found his place in life and it’s one that is always changing. and thank god for that, maksim couldn’t bear the thought of an average life.
- BACKSTORY / ROYAL VERSE.
no romanov was born lonely. this could be said twice true of maksim, who came into this world minutes after his twin and thus claiming his destiny as the spare heir between two tiny red fists. one so intrinsically linked to a life of forgotten mediocrity the child would likely never escape. and yet he never felt that left out growing up. yes it was odd that he didn’t have the famed bright romanov eyes of frozen blue and green ( his did not shine, just two hazel pools ) but he had his father’s look about him. that unkempt charm that had warmed the russian people to him in the first place. still, the children at court teased him when the tsarina was not around, jesting that he was no true born romanov like his siblings, but tatyana set them straight with an icy glare. assuring her son that it was not a look he need possess; he was a romanov because of the blood in his veins, the love his family bore him and the loyalty they gave him.
still. the dreaded sword of the middle child hung over him the elder he grew. all around him, his siblings seemed destined for greatness. dmitri, the future tsar of russia, who would remain at home in russia as they all craved. anastasia, who would one day be queen consort to one of the greatest nations and alliances their mother could possibly bring about. vasiliy, a third son, was near ten times smarter than he would ever be and would prove an asset to any crown he advised, he was sure of it. and karina, the baby of the family and yet already so sure of her own mind, and so doted on as the youngest. maksim adored each and every one of them, and was proud to be brother to their eminence. he was a good man at heart, and cared for his family deeply as was the romanov way, taking up the mediator hand in hand with vasiliy to quell the chaos of their family. for though he was gifted with a boisterous disposition, he was far more level-headed than the elder two and often brought logic to otherwise ridiculous fights. but he lacked a purpose of his own. though he was quite the charmer, always flirting with ladies at court and wreaking innocent havoc with his elder siblings, there was no talent of his own to focus on. maksim was intelligent in his quiet way, a strategic mind just waiting to be sharpened if only someone offered him the chance. if someone would just look to him, just once.
the tsarina and tsar grew anxious for their lost boy. their other children all seemed so certain of their path, of their skills and talents, and maksim stood in the middle of it all with nothing of his own to claim. it was his mother ( she had always lavished affection on her third, never wanting him to feel lesser with two elder siblings already lining up for a crown ) that had guided him to a purpose. urging ivan romanov to encourage battle strategy and warfare in maksim, to forge him into a warrior and hero. at fourteen, his lessons began and maksim took to them like a duck to water. wielding sword and shield as if he had been born for knighthood, not life as a prince. though he still has moments of doubt about how useful he is to his family, at least now he had a skill to prove himself.
and he needn’t have waited long for a chance. war had raged throughout europe for long enough, and he had remained unaffected for far too long. when armies were called, both he and dmitri at just eighteen were sent with the imperial army into war as generals. and maksim would be given his first taste of war and combat outside of a tournament or training. and it was glorious. until it wasn’t.
the rush of the fight didn’t linger long, and months away from home soon sapped all that naive boyhood from his features. the brothers saw eachother through their first kill, steadying their twin soul until they could stand again at their side. maksim proved able of compartmentalising the worst of it all to deal with at a time where the horrors could rip him apart in the safety of his own home. for so long he had lived without responsibility, always the spare and never the heir, and yet it was war that forced him to step up. to care for his brother in the way he had always looked after him. years of loyalty, repaid at the worst time. still, the brothers managed to find glimpses of light, including rescuing two stray puppies that they hoped might keep the darkness at bay at night. they named the terriers danya and nadya, and vowed to keep them safe until they could return home.
the terrors of war left scars unseen on the young prince, despite returning home relatively unscathed. it was the brutal separation from his twin brother that had left the greatest trauma behind. they had been together all their lives, and together when they’d been parted - both with the matching scars as painful reminder. maksim had been knocked unconscious and awoke to the sharp realisation that his brother had been taken. when he eventually found his way back to camp, all the men turned to stare as if they’d seen a ghost, not a bloodied prince returning from battle. the romanov twins had been missing and presumed dead for days, and yet it had been the most useless one that straggled back. it didn’t take long for the tsarina to call maksim home, grieving the loss of her eldest and too fearful to lose another. maks returned to the winter palace with the two bundles of danya and nadya, the sole link he had to dima, and a promise to keep them safe in his absence. he was hailed a hero upon his homecoming for the strength he had shown in war, the sacrifices he’d made. but the medal pinned to his jacket had brought more nausea than it did pride. what good was dressed up metal when his brother hadn’t returned with him?
the months following passed in a blur. dealing with stately visits as the new elder in the family, with anastasia long since whisked away to france, in between the moments of solitude he sought where he would paint to ease the terrible things he’d seen or play with karina who so often clung to him in those first few days. even sneaking into vasiliy’s imposed quarantine when he could to keep his brother’s spirits high proved a much welcome distraction. it was only as the war came to a head, and foreign rulers from all over began to take note of the damage they had sustained, that things began to change.
a summit had been called at bern, and all foreign rulers were invited to attend in the name of peace. not only was this an opportunity for the tsarina to aid in ending the war and to reunite the family with their long lost russian princess, but to further her already fruitful alliances. karina was still unwed, as was vasiliy, and so both came with maksim to the summit in hopes of securing other strongholds in europe. maks, of course had long since been taken. from a young age, a betrothal with the princess of england, victoria, had been arranged for the young prince. they had met once upon a time as children, but had not taken to eachother as their parents had hoped. but the young couple were reunited at bern, their countries now on opposing sides of a war that their marriage could be useful in ending. maksim had been determined to dislike her, and so of course he had fallen for the fair victoria the moment he had laid his eyes on her.
it didn’t take long for love to grow between the two royals. maksim especially grew taken with her strong will, sharp mind and seemingly unreachable beauty. it was shaping up to be quite the fairytale, until the succession of england’s throne had been thrown into chaos with the queen’s deepest secret now uncovered. the future king charles, was of no royal blood at all, but a bastard born from an affair of the queen’s who swiftly lost her head for it. it was victoria who was now the heir, and that left maksim once again out of use, left out in the cold. england sought a better alliance now that victoria was now crown princess. though eventually things were settled, maksim proving he could be a worthy consort, this period of time left him feeling more insecure than ever of his true worth.
with the matters of succession sorted, maksim grew unsure about his future responsibilities. he had never really wanted a crown, only dreaming of the russian throne if it meant he could remain with his family forever. he doesn’t believe himself worthy of it in any way, certainly not good enough to stand at victoria’s side as her consort. he was a warrior at his core, an honourable one, but that made it no less true that his mind was not made for negotiating at high tables. maks doesn’t want to be any kind of king, but he wants to be with victoria. it is that undying need to make her happy and keep her safe, to do anything she asks of him, that has kept him by her side. even if it means making himself a reluctant ruler. this was only solidified by the attempt on her life during the pirates invasion of bern, an assassination attempt on the newly named heir to the throne. almost losing her was all the confirmation he needed that he would never leave her side. and a good thing too, for the time between their marriage and coronation was shorter than they could ever have prepared for. during the final days of the summit, the now infamous explosions struck bern, leaving multiple casualties in its wake. one of which had been the king of england, making victoria the overnight queen.
life was turned upside down once again with his arrival to versailles as the newly crowned consort of england. dmitri had resurfaced after years of them living with the belief that he was long dead. the romanov’s had come to terms with their loss, just barely piecing back together a heart that would always be missing a jagged piece. now maksim must struggle with the old and new parts of himself to reconcile with a man who wears his dima’s face but is not the brother he once knew. all whilst struggling with responsibilities he never asked for, and a wife who has lost more than she could ever deserve.
