The Weddings?

I've had a lack of motivation to write lately, but I pushed through, so the next fic in the More Important Than Blood series is finally here. The long-awaited wedding(s)? It is probably going to be 3 chapters, but just the first one is posted. Enjoy :)

“Hey, kid. How are you feeling?” Bobby asked as he approached. 

“Anxious. B-but in a good way. I am just so excited and want to get this show on the road. Also, I want everything to be perfect,” Buck said, rambling more than he intended.

Bobby braced Buck’s shoulders with his hands as he instructed, “Take a deep breath, okay? With me. Inhale, 2, 3, 4. Exhale, 2, 3, 4.” 

So Buck followed along and began to feel better.

“Thanks, Bobby.”

“Anytime. That’s what I am here for.”

Kennedy walked back to them and said, “We’re starting.”

And sure enough, the music began, cueing Jee and Liam to start walking. Soon after he heard the part of the song when he was supposed to begin walking so he linked his arm with Bobby’s and began walking down the aisle. 

It was a short aisle, since there wasn’t a need for many chairs, but it was no less magical. Fairy lights were twinkling from where they were strung between the tree canopy, with colorful flowers framing the outside of the rows of chairs. Jee and Liam had made it to the front and sat right between Maddie and Kennedy in the front row. Next to them were his parents. They had been upset when they hadn’t been included in the ceremony in some way, but after several times, and several people telling them that this is what Buck wanted, they accepted it.

On the other side, Athena was sitting next to an empty seat reserved for Bobby. On Athena’s right, Sal Deluca sat with his wife, Gina. Buck had met them for the first time about 3 months after they got back together. Buck loved Gina and was, secretly, still afraid of Sal. He was glad they were here for Tommy. 

The rest of the rows were filled with their friends and family. Hen, Karen, Denny, and Mara were right behind Maddie with Chris, Abuela, Tia Pepa, and Ravi all behind Athena. All the other rows were filled with firefighters they had both worked with throughout the years and from their current stations. 

But Buck wasn’t focused on any of that. His attention was squarely on his husband-to-be at the end of the aisle. He had to consciously tell himself not to rush his walk down the aisle. But it was a losing battle. Bobby chuckles at his eagerness but at the end of the aisle pulls him into a big hug and whispers, “I love you, kid. I'm happy for you. Now go get your fiancé.”

“I love you, too, Bobby,” Buck says through the lump in his throat. He can’t start crying now, otherwise he’ll never stop.

Alright, ramble/little summary of the AU where Iris (my OC, not the Goddess) is in Epic!! I'll actually draw something for it tomorrow, but I felt more like just rambling tonight. (If you don't know who she is, check my last posts/lh)

So, the Earth and Gaia are seperate beings here. Gaia is the Goddess of the Earth, but the Earth is still a sentient being who the God's actually know of, and whom they regard with respect but also slight fear at times even if it only harms beings when it thinks it 'has to kill them/hurt them'. However, they don't know of Iris' existence since the Earth never spoke of her presence at all, nor of the fact that it even made a caretaker for Life. Iris never knew of the existence of the God's, and always played along with the tales of them that humans told like a parent playing along with their child's silly game. Otherwise, Iris never really knew if the God's existed or not.

Due to the Earth making Iris a certain way though, Iris couldn't see or hear the God's—quite literally being blind and deaf to the spiritual realm since the Earth wanted her to focus on humanity and animals rather than divinity. But after the God's somehow found out of her existence (likely Hermes or Athena found out) and the fact that she's likely been alive for longer than she should, they managed to mess with things a bit, and managed to get her to see and hear them. Iris (understandably) was shocked, terrified and sad all at once that the God's apparently existed, have been here all this time, and never did anything to help her. Iris can't be angry though since she's not programmed that way, and is generally too depressed to be angry.

I imagine the God's likely took her up into Olympus after finding out to question her, where she reluctantly told them the story of her entire life until then. They even went into the past with her to see if what she was saying was true, which it was, and ended up witnessing all of her deaths and traumatic experiences as she tells her story. By the time she's finished, Iris still defends humanity with a desperate smile, saying so long as they're still alive, she'll care for them, and that she will never blame them for her own 'mistakes'. The God's are so stunned and slightly filled with pity at her tale that they can't help but feel a high sense of respect for her, and being God's, the only way they can think of repaying her for her unknown efforts would be to give her titles and blessings. So they title her the 'Caretaker of Humanity', along with a lot more titles, and give her a lot of blessings to make her job easier (like more stamina, not dying so easily, etc). Iris is still anxious and sad, but also confused since she doesn't think she 'deserves' it. Iris let's them anyway though, grateful.

Iris is not worshipped here of course since humanity doesn't know of her, and Iris is not really a deity or a human anyway, and she also doesn't want to be worshipped—so she's comfortable wondering the earth with no worship whatsoever. The God's still respect her greatly respect her though (including Zeus), and they make that clear anytime she for some reason goes up to Olympus or interacts with any of them. (Even Hermes seems pretty respectful to her at times even if he still acts playful and teasing.)

I think the God's would respect her since in Ancient Greece, you were more likely to gain respect for heroic acts? And what Iris suffered and went through could slightly count as bravery since she never gave up even with everything, and just kept on with her goal of caring for humanity no matter what—so this is why the God respects her so much.

Tbh, in this AU, I see Iris being besties with Circe or Hermes tbh? Or maybe both. It'd be funny if it was both of them. Them as a trio sounds funny./lh

Either way, the God's usually show Iris respect by sometimes acknowledging her presence with a bow or just letting her through if she's walking. Or doing things she asks and giving her things. A few of them have sometimes tried to end Iris' suffering at times (Hades likely offered to try making sure she stayed dead at one point, if she wished not to suffer anymore), but Iris refused (unknowingly, due to her programming).

Iris treats the God's politely, but feels a bit sad when they're around since she's just sad they never helped until now. She feels a bit selfish for feeling sad though, and keeps it to herself. Iris also defends humanity no matter what the God's say of them.

Iris is also likely present for the Trojan War as a voluntary healer (likely there because she befriended Menelaus and agreed to go since she knows how much Helen means to him)—and acts a bit like a mother figure to the soldiers there due to them being human, and Iris seeing humans like her own children. The soldiers are in such a dire situation though that they see Iris subconsciously a bit like a mother figure without knowing it (Achilles, Patroclus, even Odysseus since he misses his mom so much, etc)—and Iris is absolutely devastated when Patroclus and Achilles both die. Iris mourns them both and is traumatized by their death, and even by the war. Odysseus is so desperate to keep Iris alive though due to subconsciously replacing his mom with her that he demands Menelaus to keep her safe on the ship back to Sparta. (Iris is also only present for about a week, and on the last day, she leaves when the ship to Sparta is leaving—likely jumping off the ship and drowning herself to continue her 'routine'—as sad as it makes her to do so. None of the crew members witness this, and think she just went missing or was taken.)

Odysseus also feels as if he's seen her before. (He technically has, since Iris once saw him when he was about 5 while his father was at a royal meeting.) He either can never quite place why she seems so familiar though, or he definitely can, but it confuses him a bit since it wouldn't make sense for her to look so young even after so many years.

The God's and Iris also only find out the Earth created her when they check her memories during a serious meeting with her—and end up witnessing her 'birth'/her first emergence from the ground. And also witness the many reasons behind the shifts of life (why the Earth made the Cambrian Explosion so she could look after it due to being incapable of looking after nature, how the Earth made the dinosaurs to test why she couldn't take care of the life in the Cambrian Explosion, how it made Neanderthals and Homosapiens so she'd have something equal enough to her to look after, how it made humans look more like her so she'd be less afraid of them in her traumatized and mentally-infantile and cavewoman-like state, etc). Iris is understandably stunned, shocked, and dissociates after they find out, and the God's likely go to confront the Earth. The Earth talks to them since it thinks it's 'necessary' (with its voice being deafeningly loud due to sounding like all of humanity screams at once), de-humanizing Iris and referring to her as an 'it'. Iris is in so much pain that she tears up while the Earth explains everything, and after the Earth is done talking, Hermes is frustrated at what he just learnt—but comforts Iris while the other God's try to process what they just learnt. I imagine they try to help Iris cope with it the best they can though since the Earth isn't something they can go against. After all, despite being of the Divine, they quite literally depend on it for most of their domains, and can't afford to face it's wrath.

(I also imagine Hermes & Circe slightly hate The Earth for basically being the main cause of Iris' suffering after they find out it created her to care for humanity.)

As for her dynamics with Hermes & Circe though—Hermes teases Iris a lot and jokes around with her, but is very friendly with her and often more gentle with her at times, usually doing things for her or helping her out or keeping her company while she's staying in one place for a while—he can also be quite protective of her at times, often getting very defensive or angry if someone dares to even shit-talk her. Iris is gentle with him, and almost motherly at times since that's just in her nature—even if she doesn't see him like her child due to him being a God. But she can often be easily puzzled by some of the things he does, distressed if he goes a bit too far with a prank or is acting too reckless, and is also kind of the only person who knows how vulnerable and caring Hermes really is deep down—and doesn't judge him for it. This is why Hermes is so protective of Iris. (Hermes is also so protective of Iris that he'll gladly roast the hell out of someone while clinging to her or standing in front of her if they dare to disrespect her. Iris usually only reacts to disrespect with exhaustion, or slightly tears up in the face of it.)

As for Iris & Circe's dynamic, Iris regards Circe as a genuine friend, and usually vents or rambles to Circe while they're having tea. She actually once met Circe before, but Circe didn't meet her again and actually befriend her until the God's found out about Iris' existence. Iris is more vulnerable with Circe though, and often goes to her when she's sad about something. Iris is also gentle with her too, comforting Circe if she needs it, and sometimes helping her with problems around Aeaea. Circe is very supportive of Iris on the other hand, usually treating her to tea and gossiping with her—she genuinely enjoys Iris' company, and can be quite protective of her due to how shy and anxious Iris is, often getting angry on Iris' behalf anytime Iris mentions how humanity treated her, and becomes more frustrated when Iris excuses or defends humanity's behavior toward her. Circe also let's Iris vent to her a lot, and the two are generally very close. They both regard eachother as good friends though. (Circe also becomes especially mad when Iris tells of one of her experiences or deaths caused by a mortal man, due to Circe's already intense but valid distrust of men. Circe also told Iris of her experiences with men beforehand, so Iris is very understanding of her whenever she seems uncomfortable or bitter about them, and is very gentle about it.)

Hermes & Circe are equally protective of Iris, and kinda have a slight grudge against humanity due to every tale Iris spoke of about some of her experiences with humanity or some of her deaths caused by humanity. They both love Iris to bits though./lh

Also, I can see Aphrodite having a one sided crush on Iris perhaps? Or maybe a queerplatonic connection with Iris. I'll have to decide what I like better.

Either way, this is all I got for now. May draw something for this AU though.

Iris nods and leaves them as Adrian turns towards Caspian, but sees that he’s already rounding around him to continue walking towards the little girl. Adrian: [he arches an eyebrow and sees the daughter] Daughter: [looks up when she hears approaching footsteps and her eyes brighten up when she sees Adrian, but not Caspian] Uncle Andy! [she rushes past Caspian and jumps into Adrian’s arms] Caspian, a little hurt by this, watches Adrian catch the little girl and swing her around, almost as if he had done it a million times. It was different seeing this side of Adrian, a nice different though. Daughter: Come play with me, uncle Andy! Adrian: Of course, Lady [Daughter]. What shall we play? Caspian couldn’t help the small laughter snort which causes Adrian to momentarily break out of character to glare at him, which prompts Caspian to whistle and look somewhere else as if he was laughing at something else, and Adrian looks back down at the daughter. Daughter: Well, first, we’re going to play Princess and the Dragon- Adrian: A fine choice. [he sets the little girl down and she takes his hand and pulls him in the direction of her playing area, listing off all the games she had in store for the both of them].

“I usually don’t have to force people down here,” the man yawned and stretched his arms as he climbed to his feet, “but you were giving me more trouble than you’re worth.” Caspian scoffed at this. “As for who the Hell I think I am. I’m Adrian, you know, the man who just saved your life. You’re welcome.” “Thanks, but no thanks. I didn’t ask for your help.” “The way you were sobbing in the alleyway, it sure did look like you needed my help.”

Sad Scrapped draft of book 2

Adrian leaned against the young cherry tree. Frost covered his arms and legs. It covered the ground at his feet and the tree against his back. “How do I fix this Aurelia? You’ve always been here when I got hurt...no matter how stupid or reckless I was..you were always there to make it better. To help ease the pain.” he took a shaky breath, “But this is different. This is different from the broken ribs and sprained ankles. Different from the bruises, bleeding and burns..but you’d know what to do. I know you would know what to do...I feel like Caspian stuck his hand into my chest and just...pulled my heart right out…” he said softly, before sniffing and trying to wipe the tears from his eyes before they could spill over onto his face. But in the end there were too many tears to be had and he gave up, just letting them run down his cheeks. “I miss you so much..”

Anxiety I do have a scene for this one but I haven’t actually written it down But Adrian’s constantly anxious. Anxious for his friends. For the other deviants. Anxious that he’s putting a lot of people at risk for his cause.

Adrian had gone outside I know that much probably checking on the garden. “You like Caspian right?” Quinn responded mockingly. Adrian shut up and looked away. Quinn raised an eyebrow. “Oh my god you actually do like him.” “I dont know. I dont know. I do feel…..something. Something is there. But...what if its not real? What if I’m...what if “ Adrian just couldn't figure out how to phrase what he was feeling. “I uh dated Athena for a bit back when we first met but it didn’t last because I was...into her because she was nice to me not because I actually...not because i actually..yknow..liked her.” Iris nodded slowly. “And you dont want the same thing to be true of Caspian.” Adrian nodded. “But like this feels different. Like it hurts sometimes. Like like it hurts when I’m not with him..”

Cas started at getting a bit of a big head at all the praise as Athena continues to boast about how well he’s doing with his trainings with everyone. “You seem to be forgetting our mission here. I heard the intel from Zeke about how the mission went. What you did may have been considered ‘kind’, but it was thoughtless. The last thing we need is for someone to get too big of a head and think they’re indestructible. That’s how you end up getting killed.” Adrian said gruffly. Cas turned to look at him, “I thought we were here to help people?” “We are here to help people, but we are also here to protect ourselves. There’s always a better option, even if the two options are the worst. You have to think about every single possibility when you’re out there. “I feel like I can protect myself just fine.” “Oh? Should we test that theory?” Adrian sneered

Okay this idea has been marinating in my head for so long and since the chance of me actually sitting down and animating it is low I might as well share it

Welcome to H’s animation ideas, I’ll be your host H, prepare for me to ramble at you

Okay, so there’s a character idea I’ve had that’s basically this guy who can duplicate himself for the purpose of making music

Take “I Hear A Symphony” by Cody Fry; the Composer would start playing piano in the background while the character(s) would do their thing, and then —if I’m using this term right— clone jitsu himself to also play the other instruments

Now, the reason the Epic tags are here, is an adaptation of this for Epic:

It used to just be a bunch of Hermes in different t-shirts w/ their instruments on their shirts, BUT! I just got an idea which gave me an excuse to rant to the void.

@sloanslone ‘s post of all the different Hermes gave me an idea:

In the background of Epic animatics, different creators’ versions of Hermes are making the music

We got one with like a Eury t-shirt on and holding the conductor’s baton makin’ the crew sing

We got one holding Penelope’s viola, etc

Now for some specific shots:

In Mutiny, right at “then you have forced my hand” the Hermes that controls the crew steals the guitar from Odysseus’s Hermes and jams out

Speaking of Mutiny, all the Hermes wince when Eury slits the cows throat, and they are all very anxious about what and who they know is on the way, maybe even edging on the rowers

Then in Thunder Bringer, the first lightning hits, the music plays, and all the Hermes look at each other, confused on where the music is coming from, and at the third sample where it crescendos and Zeus appears, so does Apollo

Being the god of music, he does the music for the gods

Don’t worry about Athena’s music I didn’t think that far back

Anyways what else did I have….

I guess suggest whose design goes w/ what instrument

I think @gigizetz ‘s Hermes should be Odysseus’s, strictly because it’d be fun to animate the one-finger glove playing the guitar

iv. brief biography.

tw: murder

✧ augustine came out a disappointment to her father (augustus); the third child was supposed to be another boy, another spare. except, they got this blonde, little bundle of joy. in two centuries, she was the first born girl - half the yaxley family thought of her as an abomination and half rejoiced in the birth of a girl. ophelia yaxley, after she had gone through 32-hours of labour, offered in reconciliation for having a girl, that their daughter was named after augustus.

✧ the yaxley children did not have a happy childhood. the three were spoiled with gifts from their parents and their grandparents, but lacked extreme emotional connections with their family members and each other. augustus was distant, controlling, and extremely cruel to both his wife and his children, and augustine grew up anxious. it was obvious that both parents favoured augustine's oldest brother - he was perfect: he played quidditch, excelled in all of his classes, and would most likely be the most successful of the three. augustine's middle brother was the throw-away, and augustine was an anomaly to the yaxley name.

✧ when augustine was six, her mother was murdered by her father, but nobody, except for the eldest brother knew it was augustus. augustine fell into despair - her and her mother were bonded in girlhood, and now they ophelia was gone. it felt as though augustine was invisible in a house with her father and brothers, not to mention the death eaters coming in and out of the yaxley manor.

✧ now that augustus had full control over his children, he made sure to have the strictest rules with his children, especially augustine; if she was going to be the first female yaxley in over two hundred years, she had to prove herself. he made sure to set in as many purebloods traditions early on as he could, so she could be perfect by the time that she was an adult and ready to settle down with a husband and children, unlike his deceased wife

✧ by the time that augustine started hogwarts, she was head-on into the pureblood ideals that her father heavily ingrained into her, and avoided muggleborns and some halfbloods, keeping conversations short if talked to or avoiding eye contact with them. arguably, augustine was also quite timid and would not go out of her way to talk to many people, perhaps coming off as snobby, but her father always expressed that her place was to be seen and not heard. it overwhelmed her watching other students be boisterous and/or obnoxious.

✧ it was a lonely existence at home and hogwarts, augustine barely made any friends in her first few years at hogwarts, save for a few pureblood connections, but she craved for more connections beyond her regular world and was slowly starting to deconstruct her upbringing, secretly. slowly in her fourth year, she began breaking out of her comfort zone by socializing with people she usually wouldn't, quickly realizing what sort of things she was missing out on.

✧ once she realized how out of touch she was, she began going to little muggle towns around the summer of her sixth year. her father, on the other hand, was realizing that his daughter was slowly pulling away, so like the 'good' father that he was, set augustine up with another notable pureblood.

Hi buddy, Athena here. Just popping in to see how you're doing and feel free to ramble

I am doing... mediocre! Still no news on my chem finals scores, so I'm just kind of in limbo for now. And my skull HURTS!! Jesus Christ, my skull hurts. It always hurts and it's ANNOYING. I'm fine, but I'm so tired of it. I convinced myself I had breast cancer earlier (I do not have breast cancer). I'm just one walking anxious mess.

In better news, I'm working on Nothing But Bones (still). It's been a week since Cody and I finished it and I only have 12.6% of it left to edit (so basically from Tiff kidnapping Boris to Tiff and Elton heading to Lake Wonder). Even though it didn't take us that long to write it, there's so much I forgot happened, like Dingus (the dog) pissing on everything or the fact that (1) Tiff and Elton went to Tim Hortons, (2) Tiff spilled her drink on her shoes, (3) they left the donuts in the car because their inside stakeout lasted all of two seconds, and (4) Kepler immediately devoted his energy to eating every single leftover donut (which he should not have done) as soon as they got in the car and THEN had a bowl of fruit while Tiff was bleeding out in the bathtub. He's such a silly little rat guy. You just know he's going to sleep so well on her bed when they get home.

at some point in time i have to rewatch aa6/soj because i only.. remember.. the last case.

aa5/aa6 rambling under the cut-- I have SOOO many incoherent thoughts about these 2 games.

starting off with AA6/SoJ... I only remember the last case, which sucks bc you had Trucy's case and Athena/Simon team up!! i remember NOTHING about the latter and only remember the former because Trucy's brave face cracks and it hurts so bad!!

soj did a good job of FINALLY giving Apollo some solid recognition. even when Phoenix is there, he isn't blasted forward into the spotlight like dd and aa4 did. this is the element they were missing in aa4 and aa5, and it's so satisfying to see that they could make it happen. it's just unfortunate that it happens so late.

I definitely have a lot of critiques about soj and dd-- they both performed well in some aspects but fell thru in others. aa5/dd did a MUCH better job of story telling and memorable cases, in my opinion. not to say they were all good cases, but i recall them more easily than aa6/soj, a game i just finished 2 days ago.

aa6/soj did a great job with giving their characters (ok, mostly Apollo, Phoenix, Rayfa and Dhurke) their own time to shine and find a good balance of when to use which characters. it was fresh perspective. but when they fell flat with this (obvious example being Nahyuta; could argue Athena as well, despite her having her own case without the two) it was suuuper disappointing and frustrating.

I'm honestly really upset at how empty they made Nahyuta's character. Even with his motives later revealed and how the game ended, I don't feel like I understand him at all. Him finally standing up for himself falls flat; Rayfa's is definitely way more rewarding to watch. They did great with her storytelling and greatly neglected utilizing Nahyuta.

Aa6's ending makes sense but it doesn't necessarily feel... completely satisfying? It does a good job of "ending" Apollo's story but it feels really... weird. Nahyuta asking Apollo to stay just feels like it comes completely outta nowhere and it doesn't hit like it should. It also feels rushed, kind of like a last minute decision? Sure, it makes you interested, but coming from Nahyuta... I don't know. Like I said, how Nahyuta's character was executed is really disappointing. I want to like him-- his design is cool (aside from the blatant whitewashing) and his base backstory IS interesting! They just... don't do shit with him until the very end. Even when it's revealed him and Apollo have past ties in the 3rd case, it?? Again, sure it's interesting, but with how Nahyuta is hard to connect with, it just... is a surprise but you move on pretty fine from it. Sure, I wanted to know their backstory-- that's the point of the game, one of them at least-- but I wasn't as anxious to know as I should have been.

Another thing about the ending-- I respect Apollo's decision but I really wonder if he had known about Trucy, if it would have been a bigger struggle to make a decision, especially by the next day. You can feel that he thought over the decision almost all night, which is good. Nevertheless, I think his decision would have hit much harder if he knew about Trucy. In my mind, it was like he was 'leaving' (using that very lightly; he would keep in contact) one family for another that we didn't get the greatest chance to connect with. If anything, you get intrigued on how Apollo and Rayfa will evolve, but Nahyuta and Apollo-- the ones who HAVE the prior history? I didn't feel any interest at all. This is a roundabout way of saying, if he and Trucy knew when he made his decision, it would have hit a lot harder. I think it was a missed opportunity.

I'm surprised they were still able to make Apollo's ending still feel satisfying enough; he's off on his own, he's going to take what he's learned and pass down his teachings onto others while he STILL learns himself! It's great! He's come so far to where he can hold his own ground and it's satisfying to witness, especially through the blunders he had to endure from aa4-aa6.

aa5/dd.. imo, had more interesting cases than aa6. the overall plot they held was GREAT! learning about Athena and Simon's backstories is SOOO interesting and the reveals have real IMPACT. SO GOOD. And when you find out who the real antagonist is!! I've heard that people have gripes about it, but I personally think it's FUN! IT FUCKS WITH YOU!! IT'S A MEMORABLE REVEAL!! Not to mention that dd broke the terrible 3rd case curse with Turnabout Academy! That is SUCH a fun case!!

Its major flaw is struggling to balance the defense team (especially with Apollo-- he also had backstory in this game, but they shove him away in the background of his own backstory reveal. We should have been able to investigate as Apollo when he went on leave!!)

Side tangent-- I haven't watched an aai2 playthru yet but I know generally that Edgeworth gives up his badge because being a prosecutor restricts him from getting information, despite the advantage it should give him. He quits the legal system to be able to FREELY investigate what he wasn't able to before, and I think that's a very INTERESTING plot. With that being said, they could have EASILY done the same for Apollo, and I think it woukd have been doubly fun! Apollo and Edgeworth operate differently, which is why this plot point being used a second time wouldn't have gotten old or felt overused!

Tangent done-- but yeah, "balancing" (aka shoving Phoenix in the front yet again, despite Athena's debut) the defense team was poorly executed. To give credit, Athena is given enough time for us to learn her personality and become connected with her! (Even if you put aside learning about her backstory, you still get to know her well!) She's fun, her motives for getting into law are interesting, her mechanic is an interesting take, and her backstory HITS. Her AND Simon's! They had a great debut.

Despite this, though, Phoenix (who I love dearly) gets the lead way too much. In this game, they failed to place him more in a mentor role (I know the game didn't really intend for him to take the backseat, but I think it should have). As a result, sometimes, Athena and Apollo's presences don't get to hit as much or get completely drowned out. It was the first time I REALLY wanted Phoenix to just. Not. be in the game. Getting annoyed of the series' titular character is very disheartening to experience. But that's just how bad the balancing act was handled! You don't get to feel the full impact of Apollo pulling away and being distant towards Athena; you don't get to fully grasp how important Clay was to Apollo (dgmw, you understand he was important to Apollo, but their backstory is explained too quickly and what you do learn about them somehow doesn't feel like enough. I think how they handled the conflict between Apollo and Dhurke is what they should have aimed for with Apollo and Clay's backstory). Despite him having stakes in the plot, Apollo was poorly utilized. It's fun to see his angsty side though! Hard but fun.

Also... Phoenix being underwhelmed when Trucy gets taken hostage??? What was that? That was really disappointing, especially since he had so much focus on him. You get a general "Oh no! Trucy! I hope she's okay..." But?? That's your DAUGHTER! Some of the writing choices make you feel a disconnect with the characters, especially in moments like this.

Anyways! Now I'm too sleepy and lost my train of thought. It's 5am after all! Gnight!

every time atticus saw remy, he could feel his own heart flutter— the effect that the son of nike had on him should be studied. if he wasn't so drunk, atticus would have probably blushed a little before he started to ramble something about how beautiful remy was with those golden wings and tie that back to how archangel imagery was inaccurate to biblical angels. even now, atticus wanted to steal remy away from whoever it was he was talking to beforehand and hide away in one of the many rooms or even return to their home.

remy looked like he was about to be killed by michael, or was it jason? he'd never been particularly fond of horror movies— between how anxious they made him feel and the fact that he couldn't take the deaths seriously most of the time. taking a step back, atticus let his hands run along the son of nike's sides. "i sure hope you can protect me from the killer." drunk atticus tried to make a joke, though it wasn't too far off from the usual reality of whatever combat the group would end up in. 

"oh you like my outfit?" atticus did a quick twirl to show himself off for his boyfriend as the next song started playing, total eclipse of the heart. "oh i love this song." he took remy by the waist and slowly started to guide him to the song, wanting to savor every second. "you owe me a dance, mr. warren" the son of athena said, he didn't guide remy back to the dance floor. this was an intimate moment and atticus didn't want an audience. "have i told you today how much i love you?" he took the others hand and guided it over to his own heart so remy could feel how fast it was beating.

Remy himself was dressed more like a camp counselor than anything else, with tiny red shorts that were so small they would have been deemed sinful by any church in the entire country and a tight white shirt with a playful little "Camp Demi-God" printed on it. Remy might have had this made up during one of his last times in the real world. There's an easy chuckle as Remy turns just as Atticus bolts off the dance floor and into his arms like that.

"Oh- heh-" There's a gentle laugh as Remy reaches out a hand to return that hug with one hand as the other was holding one of those goblets filled with his own drink, giving Atticus a light squeeze before he reaches up to cup the other's neck and to tilt that head up to meet his eyes.

"Obviously. Never one to miss a party Atty. And I would have kicked myself if I'd missed the chance to see you in those jeans." Remy teased, that voice warm and playful as ever. He might have already had a few drinks himself. There was that glint in his eyes that betrayed he was barely keeping his usual horny self in check as he leaned forward to press a kiss to the other's forehead.

"You looked like you were killing it out on the dance floor, I saw you a few times."

{Paisley lifts Athena up bridal style. Athena is VERY shocked. And very flustered. But mostly shocked.}

"Weirdly enough. It's like I'm holding a bunch of grapes. You weigh like... Basically nothing. You're much lighter than I thought!"

{Athena just sits there blinking owlishly.}

Athena surfaced from the water, her wings puffed up from the onslaught of emotions that came along with her. She threw her spear at the sand with a frustrated grunt, stomping away from the water.

Pallas followed behind her, looking concerned for her friend.

"Athena, it's okay! You did well!"

"Did you see the way he was looking at me?" Athena was pacing back and forth, going on one of her anxious ramblings. "Couldn't you tell he was disappointed? I failed him again, Pallas! And I'm going to keep failing if I don't train harder."

"Thea, no!" Pallas reached for her arm, stopping the girl in her tracks, "You're already pushing yourself to your limits, you can't possibly-"

Athena yanked her arm away, shaking her head while grabbing at her toga. Her chest was starting to hurt again, the same pain she's been feeling for weeks now.

"I-I need to be better. I need to be stronger. I need to be perfect for him."

It was getting hard to breathe.

"Athena, this isn't good! You're exhausted!" Pallas gently grabbed her hands, knuckles bruised from the work they were forced into. She tried leading her back to the water, "Please listen to me, let's go back and talk to my dad-"

"P-Pallas I can't... I-I need to... I... I need..." Athena was gasping now, looking paler by the second. Her sentences were being mashed together, fitting awkwardly as she tried to speak, wheezing with every trembling breath. Her chest tightened even more, her airways were being blocked by... Something?

"Thena?"

She tried to speak, but only a strangled sound could escape her lips. Her chest hurt so much, her lungs burned for air. Athena grabbed her toga in desperation, eyes widening, black spots appearing in her field of vision.

"Athena!?" Pallas followed her to the ground, panicking. "Athena what's wrong!? Talk to me!"

Another delayed cry, as a disgusting bitterness flooded her mouth, hands flying upward to grasp her throat. She tried meeting Pallas' eyes, her own wide and wet with tears of agony. It burned. It burned so much. Pallas' voice felt so distant, cutting in and out due to the ringing in her ears.

"... na! Ath...!"

"Pa... goi... n?"

She could hear another voice mingled in there somewhere, but she couldn't figure out who. Her mind was going blank, being consumed by her need to breathe, by the pain in her chest, the burning in her throat.

Athena hunched over, spitting out a mysterious black liquid, watching as it stained her toga. Before she could take another desperate breath, she coughed again, coughing up more and more of the sticky substance. The ringing was dimming slightly, and she could hear the voices a little clearer.

"Dad, what's wrong with her?!"

Pallas was holding her upright, her dress was also ruined from the black spit.

"I don't know. Athena, stay with us, we're right here."

Triton was holding her hair as she sputtered, lightly rubbing her back.

Athena only sobbed in response, lips and hands stained black, the sand below not looking any better. Finally, after what felt like hours, she stopped, spitting up the last of the substance leaking out her mouth. She sucked in huge gulps of air, body trembling, eyes heavy as exhaustion racked through her being. She went limp in Pallas' arms, staring blankly into nothing.

"I-its over. It's over, okay? You're okay..." Pallas was crying, voice breaking as she held her friend. Triton was still idly rubbing circles on her back, looking at the large black spot on the ground.

Was that... Ink?

Abelas stood beside Karme at the helm of the Athena's Hand and listened to his friend's anxious rambling with a faint smile. There was an uncharacteristic fatigue that had settled into Abelas, normally jovial and careless, the weight of what had happened sunk in. Vallas had grown, Icarus had died, and Abeals was mortal now in the pursuit to keep his friend from dying. He'd have Ikaros to thank for that - eventually, when Abelas could find the words to express what his brother had done for him.

"All in one piece," Abelas said, his voice calm and steady. He glanced back at Icarus, who was resting peacefully, and Vallas, who was curled up nearby, now much larger than before. "Icarus is alive, and that's what matters. Dragon growth can be unpredictable, especially under unique circumstances. They've both been through a lot today."

Abelas turned his gaze back to Karme, his expression softening. Friends. The thought of being friends with a mortal should've turned his stomach, but at least Karme looked more like a fish than a person, that was something to cheer him up. "Take me back to the Sanctuary, Ikaros and Vallas could use a few days off." And he needed to think about what had happened, the waters of Mythal's pool and the effect that she'd had on the blighted animals. There were answers here but now Abelas's time had been cut dramatically short.

In Karme's defense, he did ask about all the other people he chauffeured over with Abelas when the elvhen mysteriously appeared on his ship. Abelas insisted there was no one else and that it was time to go, so what was Karme to do? Of course, he took off with only his friends in tow. Icarus looked healthier, Vallas was so big now, and Abelas seemed ... different somehow. What happened down there? Karme wanted to ask so badly he started doing a little hop dance in place as he flew the ship, but the only reason he kept biting his lip was to give Abelas some time with his animal pals.

"I'm glad you're okay!" he blurted out when he could no longer take it. "I mean I'm super happy that Icarus is better now because I think he's really starting to like me and Vallas is wow! Just wow! I thought dragons took forever to grow up but wow! That's amazing! And I was so worried you wouldn't make it back because sometimes I think you're a little reckless but obviously you're a lot tougher than me. I'm sorry I didn't go with you but I..." Karme had lost his train of thought in all that spilled from his mouth, leading him to trail off until he was just making an anxious noise, trying to find the point in all he was saying. "You're back, but are you sure you're alright? Do you want to just go back to the Silverlands or..."

Annabeth Chase as a Slytherin!

Annabeth Chase at hogwarts THE LOVE FOR HUFFLEPUFF PERCY WAS SO MUCH and I didn't expect that! I'm having really a lot of fun drawing them like this and I will probably continue! But now about Annabeth as a slytherin, I’m here to explain to you my thought process. Annabeth fatal flaw is hubris, also called deadly pride! In addition to ambition too. And it was now that I realized that's a perfect description of a slytherin! She is also really intelligent and cunning, she is able to use and expand her knowledge for her needs and basically, not dying or fix what the gods mess up lmao I couldn't decide the pet to give her, I was thinking of a owl, then a snake because snakes are also a symbol of Athena! But then I realised that a cat would be a perfect fit for Annabeth and for her house and plus, imagine the cat and percy's dog together, it would be so messy! The patronus is a owl, symbol of wisdom and the ability to deal with every situation you stumble upon with incredible mental strength. And is also the symbol of Athena I don't make the rules The wand: has owl feather core and olive tree wood. The core helps acquiring wisdom, provides insight during dark times, maintain secrecy and improves sensory perception! The olive wood is not usually used for wands by Olivander in Canon but who cares about canon and I say that it should be an option because is a sacred tree. The tree is a symbol of peace and helps with protection spells. Done! I don't think I should say more than you can already see in the post! Let me know if you like this one! heart

This post was supposed to be LO critical. In the end, I realized I was just rambling on ideas for Apollo.

This post inspired me to write some ideas on Apollo as an antagonist, or his flaws in general. Because it's really interesting to explore instead of what we had in LO.

He could be so darn good as an antagonist, in the hands of a talented writer who respects his origins.

Am I this writer ? Nope. I'm just a newbie who likes Greek myths. I'm sure a competent professional could come up with better ideas.

I just want to bring my very subjective opinion on the table.

And so, here are some other concrete suggestions for Apollo as an antagonist.

(antagonist ≠ villain. I'd prefer avoiding completely demonizing him.)

The plot about grieving Hyacinthus could be a good idea.

He could be neglecting his job because of it, maybe getting extremely anxious and overreacting a lot.

The god's grief is a powerful tool that isn't used enough. It's always so powerful and intense !

Demeter starved the whole world when Persephone was kidnapped, after all.

But the most intense grieving god could perfectly be Apollo. He's supposed to be protective, sensitive, talented and smart. Those character traits would make an explosive mix !

Character stuff

This is the part where a good writer should be involved.

Apollo is one of the most intense gods on Olympus. He can be prideful at times, which makes him confident and a little... touchy.

Greek Gods are nuanced beings, they already have flaws. No need to add "he's a delusional idiot" to the list.

Also, RS' idea of Apollo being less perfect than he seems is actually really interesting. Maybe Zeus or the others put a lot of pressure on him, which makes him stressed out.

Maybe his importance makes him super busy all the time. Because, when you're the patron god of arts, archery, medicine, mathematics, sport, the youth, and the SUN (with Helios), you don't have that much time for yourself.

The time he was mortal could be interesting to explore. Him being free of all his responsibilities, but so weak at the same time.

Since he's not the main character in this configuration, we could just stop at the "stressed overreacting god who wants to maintain his good reputation".

And so, when someone threatens that reputation, he could lash out.

The story writes itself !

Some bad things Apollo actually did

Instead of inventing an SA plot (and not handling it correctly), we could look up some of Apollo's wrathful moments.

They could be used as opportunities for him to learn some lessons to become a better god than he already is. It could also mean we flesh out some characters.

They should not be used as excuses to put him as Olympus' resident evil guy.

The whole Marsyas situation

Cassandra (I think LO did use that one, but she is such a minor character that the whole story should be re-done)

Apollo slaying Python: tbf, he had his reasons. I just add it because it's interesting.

Coronis' punishment and Asclepius' birth

Speaking of Asclepius :

Apollo could try to overthrow Zeus because of the whole Asclepius incident.

Someone suggested it on the ULO subreddit, and I actually found it to be a very good idea.

It could justify his desire to overthrow his father

I won't be summarizing the myth, because it's very easy to Google it, but I just love it so much ! It both shows Apollo's best and worst aspects.

Also, if we're talking about LO, Persephone could play a role in the story. Maybe Hades and her would have different opinions whether he should be resurrected or not.

And there's the whole situation about Apollo being almost thrown into Tartarus ! That's super intense.

You know, an idea relating to the Underworld™ in a story about the king of the Underworld™ 😅

(And it's not like Apollo never tried to replace Zeus. In some versions, he assists Hera, Athena and Poseidon in their own uprising.)

Rachel : Um, so what I think what it comes down to is looking at Greek mythology as a whole and he is sort of the most—uh, he is one of the most important and crucial, uh, charac—die—deities in the pantheon. Um, he is in charge of so many things and I think it really subverts that uh, expectation that you have, um, where you think that he’s going to be very, very good and I think in society, we often hold up men who we perceive to be as very, very good and um, it just—it makes sense for the story to—to flip it a little bit, because Hades is kind of always the bad guy. So I’m like, “Hades could have a turn at being good” and like, the same for Hera as well.

Okay so I agree that switching the gods roles might be fun I myself make apollo an introvert while making artemis the extrovert in my retellings BUT Theres my issue

Lore olympus is a modern retelling with modern morals in it, there are so SO many gods who have done the same act as apollo in the muths but got it cut out in the comic why leave it on apollo though?
