real actual nonhostile question with a preamble: i think a lot of artists consider NN-generated images as an existential threat to their ability to use art as a tool to survive under capitalism, and it's frequently kind of disheartening to think about what this is going to do to artists who rely on commissions / freelance storyboarding / etc. i don't really care whether or not nn-generated images are "true art" because like, that's not really important or worth pursuing as a philosophical question, but i also don't understand how (under capitalism) the rise of it is anything except a bleak portent for the future of artists
thanks for asking! i feel like it's good addressing the idea of the existential threat, the fears and feelings that artists have as to being replaced are real, but personally i am cynical as to the extent that people make it out to be a threat. and also i wanna say my piece in defense of discussions about art and meaning.
the threat of automation, and implementation of technologies that make certain jobs obsolete is not something new at all in labor history and in art labor history. industrial printing, stock photography, art assets, cgi, digital art programs, etc, are all technologies that have cut down on the number of art jobs that weren't something you could cut corners and labor off at one point. so why do neural networks feel like more of a threat? one thing is that they do what the metaphorical "make an image" button that has been used countless times in arguments on digital art programs does, so if the fake button that was made up to win an argument on the validity of digital art exists, then what will become of digital art? so people panic.
but i think that we need to be realistic as to what neural net image generation does. no matter how insanely huge the data pool they pull from is, the medium is, in the simplest terms, limited as to the arrangement of pixels that are statistically likely to be together given certain keywords, and we only recognize the output as symbols because of pattern recognition. a neural net doesn't know about gestalt, visual appeal, continuity, form, composition, etc. there are whole areas of the art industry that ai art serves especially badly, like sequential arts, scientific illustration, drafting, graphic design, etc. and regardless, neural nets are tools. they need human oversight to work, and to deal with the products generated. and because of the medium's limitations and inherent jankiness, it's less work to hire a human professional to just do a full job than to try and wrangle a neural net.
as to the areas of the art industry that are at risk of losing job opportunities to ai like freelance illustration and concept art, they are seen as replaceable to an industry that already overworks, underpays, and treats them as disposable. with or without ai, artists work in precarized conditions without protections of organized labor, even moreso in case of freelancers. the fault is not of ai in itself, but in how it's yielded as a tool by capital to threaten workers. the current entertainment industry strikes are in part because of this, and if the new wga contract says anything, it's that a favorable outcome is possible. pressure capital to let go of the tools and question everyone who proposes increased copyright enforcement as the solution. intellectual property serves capital and not the working artist.
however, automation and ai implementation is not unique to the art industry. service jobs, manufacturing workers and many others are also at risk at losing out jobs to further automation due to capital's interest in maximizing profits at the cost of human lives, but you don't see as much online outrage because they are seen as unskilled and uncreative. the artist is seen as having a prestige position in society, if creativity is what makes us human, the artist symbolizes this belief - so if automation comes for the artist then people feel like all is lost. but art is an industry like any other and artists are not of more intrinsic value than any manual laborer. the prestige position of artist also makes artists act against class interest by cooperating with corporations and promoting ip law (which is a bad thing. take the shitshow of the music industry for example), and artists feel owed upward social mobility for the perceived merits of creativity and artistic genius.
as an artist and a marxist i say we need to exercise thinking about art, meaning and the role of the artist. the average prompt writer churning out big titty thomas kinkade paintings posting on twitter on how human made art will become obsolete doesnt know how to think about art. art isn't about making pretty pictures, but is about communication. the average fanartist underselling their work doesn't know that either. discussions on art and meaning may look circular and frustrating if you come in bad faith, but it's what exercises critical thinking and nuance.

Okay, so.
It's 5:30 pm. As with most Friday nights, I get in my car to drive to a 6 pm Magic the Gathering draft.
It takes a couple of tries to get the car to start. I don't think much of it - the car is about two and a half decades old, and it's had trouble starting before, although not normally this bad. When I start driving, it feels sluggish - I assume it'll function normally soon, but the "soon" keeps not happening.
(I later learn that I really should have taken this more seriously.)
I get onto the main road, and start making my way towards the game store. I start to notice the car being oddly... jittery when it's stopped, particularly the steering wheel. I tell myself, well, hopefully it'll do fine to get me to the MTG event and back, then I can get it looked at over the weekend.
(Horrible idea. Never listen to this instinct.)
On the way, I stop at the red light, then the car has trouble starting back up. I restart the ignition, and it's around this point when I start to smell something funny. Hopefully something from my surroundings, I tell myself.
(Othin, you fucking idiot.)
A bit further, and the smell hasn't gone away. Also, something looks funny. Is that... smoke? Inside the car? Okay, I wasn't imagining it, that's definitely smoke. Emergency procedures, abort mission.
First things first, gotta get off the main road. I take the next turn onto a side road - and it's only two lanes, one in each direction. I go a bit up the road, looking for a proper place to park, and it doesn't take long of failing to do that before I go okay, no, enough waiting, I need to get out of here. The other cars can deal with it.
I park, call my dad, and explain the situation. He says it sounds like I'd had a big oil leak, and if I drove that much without oil, my engine is probably toast. Given how old the car is, that would probably be the death blow to it, although we'd already expected it wouldn't last much longer regardless.
I call Triple A, at 5:49 pm, to request a tow truck. They ask if I'm in a safe location - I interpret the question as being about immediate personal safety and say yes. (I later learn that blocking a two-lane road does not qualify as a safe location. Maybe if I'd said no, things would have gone differently.) It takes a bit of time to figure out how to explain where exactly I am, since I don't know which municipality I stopped in or how best to describe my street location, but after a few minutes they go sure, we'll have someone over there within the next hour, and they'll call when they're on the way.
In the meantime, I call my dad back, for more of his car expertise. He says it should be fine to sit in the car so I'm not out in the cold, I just shouldn't turn it on. It still smells horrible, so on his advice, I lower the windows, and sit there, waiting.
Around 6:30, I haven't heard anything, so I call back to see if there's any updates. The automated message says the expected arrival time is 7:21.
I don't have headphones with me, so I wait until it feels okay to put the windows back up before taking the opportunity to watch anime, and pull up the next episode of Yuyushiki. Meanwhile, my dad texts me, I mention the road, and he goes wait, that's dangerous, you should really wait on the grass by the road instead. I tell him I don't think I'm likely to get hit, but at his insistence, I reluctantly comply, after finishing the episode. Back to shivering as it gets increasingly cold.
Around 7, I call again, and the automated line still says the expected arrival time is 7:21. Around 7:10, there's still no word about the driver leaving, so I call and ask for a live rep. The rep tries to check in with the tow truck, but comes back after several minutes to say that there was no number available for the driver himself, and that he attempted to contact the company they'd contracted for the word directly, but wasn't able to reach them. The rep says the driver is showing me as next on his list, and the only alternative would be restarting the process with a new driver, which would put me further down the list. He suggests waiting at least another half hour before trying anything like that.
I am getting skeptical of these time estimates, and extremely tired of shivering outside. I call my dad and ask him to come, he says sure. He also suggests calling the police to let them know about the road I'm blocking and get their help with keeping other cars from crashing into me, but I say I don't want to do that while I'm alone and wearing a dress. He says he doesn't expect it to be an issue but doesn't push it.
Dad shows up, goes wait, you meant the straight part of the road? I assumed you meant the twisty part further up, no one's gonna crash into you here. (In other words, rather than shivering, I could have spent that time in my car watching another episode of Yuyushiki.) Still, it's getting dark, and he says we should set up the reflectors he put in our cars, for exactly this sort of situation. It turns out they're only in his car, not mine, so we set up his reflectors.
Dad goes hey, want to see if the engine got messed up enough that we can see just from looking at it? I go sure, why not. We pop the hood and, instead, see a huge fucking pile of twigs and leaves, right in the middle. Dad speculates that it's a bird's nest and starts pulling it out. While he does, we start hearing some sort of chirping sound. We both speculate that it's a bird, but he notices that it's not a bird and not coming from the car itself - it's a baby squirrel in the pile of nest he'd pulled out. Doesn't seem like it went well for it.
We wonder if that was the whole problem. Dad doesn't notice signs of significant oil spilling, and he checks the oil level but says it's fine. We give it a shot, and the car seems to start normally. We drive a bit down the street together, but I notice it still feels pretty clunky. I suggest switching cars so he can evaluate mine. He notices the light saying "service engine soon", asks if that's been on since I left home, I say yes. He says he doesn't want to drive it without checking how serious that is and goes to look it up in the manual.
While I'm waiting in Dad's car, I call Triple A again, and explain that we've moved the car slightly. By this point they've ditched the first contractor and are sending a new tow truck from a different company. While I'm talking with them, Dad comes back with a question about my car, I say I don't know and that I'm on a call. He keeps trying to get more of an answer from me but I'm not sure what else he expects, eventually he gets frustrated and goes back to my car.
I'm waiting on hold for the rep to try to get more info from the new driver, and text my dad to ask what he wants. He says I should hang up and we should just drive the two cars home. I ask if he's sure the car is safe, he says no but he doesn't want to keep waiting.
Around 8:30, we start driving in each other's cars. Dad takes the lead, and is in the middle of driving my car up a steep hill when it gets stuck. He instructs me to carefully drive past him, then turn around to meet him at the bottom of the hill. He decides it really isn't fit to drive home but that it should go somewhere that isn't in the middle of traffic, and finds an area that's blocked off for construction. Dad speculates that in addition to the nest getting caught in stuff, there may have been other issues from things like wires getting chewed on.
(While he was driving, I could smell that awful smell from his car, behind him. I swear I can still smell it.)
I call Triple A yet again, to explain where we moved the car this time. They say it might take another couple of hours for the tow truck to arrive. We go, no, we're not waiting that long. Dad asks about the procedure for unassisted towing, and we end up putting the keys with the car to leave for the tow truck to use. Dad also has me call the police's non-emergency line to tell them about the car we're leaving and why, so they won't take issue with it in the meantime.
Around this point, Dad asks about the friend I was talking to. I go, what are you talking about. He says, on that phone call. I say, I didn't have any phone calls with friends here, all my calls were to him or Triple A. He says, wait, that's who you were talking to? I say of course. He says, so when I told you to hang up, you hung up on Triple A? I say yes, that's what you insisted I should do. He says whoops.
We return home around 9 pm. I get out of the car first, spend a while waiting by the door for my dad to catch up, and remind him that I no longer have a house key with me, since it was on the same key ring. He goes wait, you left your house key with the car? I point out that really, it was both of our mistakes, since he was using the key ring as well, and was the first one to stash it.
Dad says we'll need to go back for it, after a much-needed chance to pee and eat dinner. I also use the chance to start making a document of things to remind myself to keep in mind about cars: supplies to keep on hand, warning signs to watch for, things to keep clean, and also the value of having someone else in your car every once in a while so they can point out things you've overlooked. Bunch of things he'd been trying to get me to keep in mind forever, that never seemed as important until I'd gotten a chance to really see the consequences first-hand. Once I finish the document, I'm thinking of printing it out and taping it somewhere visible while I drive, so that maybe I'll remember to think about it more often.
It's a pretty quick drive back to the car. In part, because my dad drives really fast. While zooming down the hills we'd been stuck on, he points out that this is why he'd really wanted me to be careful, because people sometimes drive like this on them. I point out that maybe he should not do that.
We get the house key back around 10 pm. While we're driving home, I get a call back from the police, saying it's fine to have the car there for now, but it will get in the way of the construction vehicles, so we've gotta deal with it by 7 am if we don't want to risk the police towing it instead. Dad points out that tomorrow is Saturday, the cop says it'll be fine if the construction isn't happening that day, but we do need to make sure it's gone by their next work day.
Back home, I call Triple A again. They say they've switched to using a third contracting company, but this one finally has someone dispatched, along with a tracker. Next time I check in, they say they've picked up the car. Around 11 pm, I get a notification saying it's been successfully delivered to the repair place we asked for.
A learning experience, in a number of ways. But also, man, what a mess.

AI Panic: What They Don’t Want You to Understand #5
Based on the video: AI Wars: How Corporations Hijacked the Anti‑AI Movement
🛠️ Job Loss Hysteria: The Layoff Lie They Want You to Believe
“AI will take your job.” “Soon, there will be no need for designers, writers, translators.” “Everyone will be replaced.”
This has become the go-to line in every clickbait article and every doomsday LinkedIn post. But is it true? Or just… convenient?
Step 1: Automation ≠ Unemployment
Here’s the twist: AI replaces tasks, not people.
A lawyer still negotiates — even if AI helps summarize contracts.
A designer still makes decisions — even if AI generates mockups.
A writer still tells stories — even if AI helps with drafts.
📌 Most jobs are hybrids of routine + creativity + communication. AI speeds up parts of the job — and in many cases, makes people more valuable, not obsolete.
Step 2: The real reason for layoffs? AI is a scapegoat
Corporations love a good excuse to cut costs. And nothing sounds trendier than:
“We’re pivoting to AI workflows.”
Translation:
“We’re firing people to boost shareholder value.”
In the video, it’s made clear: many so-called “AI-induced” layoffs were planned before any serious AI integration. The tech just made it easier to justify.
Step 3: Panic creates a buying opportunity
Fear sells. So here come the consultants, webinars, and “AI-proof your career” e-books.
– Panic makes workers compliant. – Panic makes companies invest in overpriced solutions. – Panic makes media profitable.
Just like in any bubble — the loudest screams often come from those selling the parachutes.
What actually helps workers?
Learning how to use AI tools, not fight them.
Focusing on human-only skills: judgment, emotion, collaboration.
Building hybrid roles: designer+prompt engineer, writer+curator, etc.
The goal isn’t to beat the machine. The goal is to ride it better than the next person.
What to watch for
When someone says “AI is killing jobs,” ask:
Who got laid off — and who got richer?
Was it AI that made the decision — or a boardroom full of suits?
Who’s profiting from your fear of being replaced?
AI isn’t replacing you. A CEO holding a severance package and a press release is.
🔜 Coming up in Part 6:
Techno-feudalism — how fear, ethics, and PR campaigns are being used to turn you into a tenant on the digital plantation.

Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency has deployed a proprietary chatbot called GSAi to 1,500 federal workers at the General Services Administration, WIRED has confirmed. The move to automate tasks previously done by humans comes as DOGE continues its purge of the federal workforce.
GSAi is meant to support “general” tasks, similar to commercial tools like ChatGPT or Anthropic’s Claude. It is tailored in a way that makes it safe for government use, a GSA worker tells WIRED. The DOGE team hopes to eventually use it to analyze contract and procurement data, WIRED previously reported.
“What is the larger strategy here? Is it giving everyone AI and then that legitimizes more layoffs?” asks a prominent AI expert who asked not to be named as they do not want to speak publicly on projects related to DOGE or the government. “That wouldn’t surprise me.”
In February, DOGE tested the chatbot in a pilot with 150 users within GSA. It hopes to eventually deploy the product across the entire agency, according to two sources familiar with the matter. The chatbot has been in development for several months, but new DOGE-affiliated agency leadership has greatly accelerated its deployment timeline, sources say.
Federal employees can now interact with GSAi on an interface similar to ChatGPT. The default model is Claude Haiku 3.5, but users can also choose to use Claude Sonnet 3.5 v2 and Meta LLaMa 3.2, depending on the task.
“How can I use the AI-powered chat?” reads an internal memo about the product. “The options are endless, and it will continue to improve as new information is added. You can: draft emails, create talking points, summarize text, write code.”
The memo also includes a warning: “Do not type or paste federal nonpublic information (such as work products, emails, photos, videos, audio, and conversations that are meant to be pre-decisional or internal to GSA) as well as personally identifiable information as inputs.” Another memo instructs people not to enter controlled unclassified information.
The memo instructs employees on how to write an effective prompt. Under a column titled “ineffective prompts,” one line reads: “show newsletter ideas.” The effective version of the prompt reads: “I’m planning a newsletter about sustainable architecture. Suggest 10 engaging topics related to eco-friendly architecture, renewable energy, and reducing carbon footprint.”
“It’s about as good as an intern,” says one employee who has used the product. “Generic and guessable answers.”
The Treasury and the Department of Health and Human Services have both recently considered using a GSA chatbot internally and in their outward-facing contact centers, according to documents viewed by WIRED. It is not known whether that chatbot would be GSAi. Elsewhere in the government, the United States Army is using a generative AI tool called CamoGPT to identify and remove references to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility from training materials, WIRED previously reported.
In February, a project kicked off between GSA and the Department of Education to bring a chatbot product to DOE for support purposes, according to a source familiar with the initiative. The engineering effort was helmed by DOGE operative Ethan Shaotran. In internal messages obtained by WIRED, GSA engineers discussed creating a public “endpoint”—a specific point of access in their servers—that would allow DOE officials to query an early pre-pilot version of GSAI. One employee called the setup “janky” in a conversation with colleagues. The project was eventually scuttled, according to documents viewed by WIRED.
In a Thursday town hall meeting with staff, Thomas Shedd, a former Tesla engineer who now runs the Technology Transformation Services (TTS), announced that the GSA’s tech branch would shrink by 50 percent over the next few weeks after firing around 90 technologists last week. Shedd plans for the remaining staff to work on more public-facing projects like Login.gov and Cloud.gov, which provide a variety of web infrastructure for other agencies. All other non-statutorily required work will likely be cut, Shedd said.
“We will be a results-oriented and high-performance team,” Shedd said, according to meeting notes viewed by WIRED.
He’s been supportive of AI and automation in the government for quite some time: In early February, Shedd told staff that he planned to make AI a core part of the TTS agenda.

The DOGE team hopes to eventually use it to analyze contract and procurement data, WIRED previously reported....
“How can I use the AI-powered chat?” reads an internal memo about the product. “The options are endless, and it will continue to improve as new information is added. You can: draft emails, create talking points, summarize text, write code.”
The memo also includes a warning: “Do not type or paste federal nonpublic information (such as work products, emails, photos, videos, audio, and conversations that are meant to be pre-decisional or internal to GSA) as well as personally identifiable information as inputs.” Another memo instructs people not to enter controlled unclassified information....
“It’s about as good as an intern,” says one employee who has used the product. “Generic and guessable answers.”

AITHEMIS: A New Way Of Enhancing Legal Practice in “AI” Way

Is AI a legal threat or a helpful tool? Is it replacing or altering the work of lawyers? You might be surprised by the response.
AI is now a quiet participant in the dance of existence. After initially being reluctant to take the initiative, it now easily guides us through its complexity. It helps us with things we used to think people could only do.
It can change the legal sector, including law firms, in-house attorneys, legal operations, and law schools.
AI is a potent instrument in the legal field that enhances rather than replaces human skill. It increases productivity and offers instant access to large databases, a document visualizer, and a case summarizer, which can help contract review in a few minutes.
But a human touch is still necessary for creativity, nuance, and comprehension of human settings. We should consider AI a friend rather than an adversary attempting to supplant humanity. Many of our problems can be solved by AI as a collaborator, which includes:
Review and Analysis of Documents Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies save time in case law research, contract analysis, and due diligence by quickly scanning hundreds of legal documents and finding relevant information.
Predictive analytics AI can predict legal outcomes by examining past cases. This allows lawyers to make better arguments and advise clients, enhancing strategy and decision- making.
Legal Studies AI tools that efficiently scan legal literature and rulings expedite research, and lawyers can focus. These technologies allow them to retrieve relevant content and concentrate on more crucial tasks quickly.
Contract Management AI-assisted contract management solutions reduce turnaround time and legal problems by accurately drafting, reviewing, and managing contracts while identifying risks and guaranteeing regulatory compliance.
Client Communication & Chatbots AI-driven chatbots respond to client questions and offer updates, enhancing client involvement and freeing legal professionals to focus on intricate case details. Therefore, AI is more likely to assist legal teams in keeping more work in-house than replacing positions. As a result, these teams can more carefully choose which tasks to outsource.
In other words, AI can free experts to concentrate on more creative and intellectually stimulating work — the kind of work that first attracted them to the legal field. One of the most significant effects of AI on the legal sector will probably be these procedures, which can benefit law firms or internal legal departments, as well as the clients and businesses they assist.
AI is having a truly remarkable and revolutionary impact on the legal industry. Law Firm AI Software and AI Case Management System tools are just two examples of how technology may modernize law businesses, promote growth, and enhance client services — it’s not just about automating work.
It is essential to have a reliable tool. The AI they employ must produce accurate and legally binding records, be based on trustworthy legal sources, and indicate where its data originates.
These are the few things to Take Into Account When Collaborating with a Trustworthy AI:
Does the AI platform for legal case summaries work well with your workflow, and is it compatible with your current legal applications?
Does it have the capability to meet legal demands, such as automated case management software?
Does the user interface guarantee that legal professionals can easily use it?
Does the supplier protect sensitive legal data by adhering to strict security and privacy standards?
Can AI be expanded to meet upcoming legal issues and technological advancements?
These factors must be considered when choosing AI for legal work. The quick adoption of AI to automate legal documents evidences a notable trend toward more precise and effective legal processes. In a time when time is of the essence, and legal difficulties are becoming more widespread, people who use and adapt to AI have a better chance of success.
The future of law is not about humans vs. AI but rather about how we can employ both to improve client service and build a more accessible and effective legal system.
With Aithemis, incorporating AI into law is not merely a trend but a revolution in law practice in the twenty-first century.

Streamlining Legal Workflows with Document Generation Software for Law Firms: PDQ Docs
In the fast-paced world of law, efficiency and accuracy are crucial. Law firms handle a high volume of complex documents daily, including contracts, briefs, wills, and other legal papers. As such, the ability to generate accurate and professional documents quickly can significantly improve the workflow of any legal practice. This is where document generation software for law firms comes into play. PDQ Docs is a powerful solution that streamlines document creation, reduces human error, and saves valuable time, ultimately improving the productivity of legal teams.

The Need for Document Generation Software in Law Firms
Law firms face the challenge of generating a variety of documents, each requiring precise formatting and language to meet the legal standards. Manual document creation can be time-consuming, often leading to inconsistencies or errors. This is especially problematic when dealing with a large volume of cases or clients. Document generation software for law firms simplifies this process by automating repetitive tasks, allowing legal professionals to focus more on the substantive aspects of their work.
PDQ Docs addresses this challenge by providing a comprehensive platform that helps law firms generate documents with speed and accuracy. With PDQ Docs, legal teams can create templated documents that can be easily customized based on specific client or case details. This not only saves time but also ensures that the documents are consistent and meet the required legal standards.
How PDQ Docs Improves Efficiency for Law Firms
One of the main advantages of PDQ Docs is its ability to automate the document creation process. The document generation software for law firms allows them to create templates for various types of legal documents, such as contracts, pleadings, and agreements. Once a template is set up, users can quickly fill in the necessary information, and PDQ Docs will automatically generate the final document in a fraction of the time it would take to create it manually.
This automation reduces the risk of human error, as it minimizes the need for repetitive data entry and ensures that the correct information is inserted into the right sections of the document. For law firms handling high volumes of documents, this can be a game-changer in terms of accuracy and speed.
Customization and Flexibility with PDQ Docs
Another key feature of document generation software for law firms is its high level of customization. Law firms have unique needs, and the ability to tailor document templates to fit specific legal requirements is essential. PDQ Docs allows users to create and modify templates to suit the specific language, clauses, and formats required for different types of cases and clients. This flexibility ensures that each document is personalized and aligns with the firm’s standards.
Additionally, PDQ Docs is designed with user-friendly interfaces that require minimal training, making it accessible to all members of a legal team, from paralegals to senior attorneys. This ease of use ensures that legal professionals can quickly adopt the software and begin using it to enhance their document management process.

I like applied statistics for it. I try to be really specific about what I'm talking about when I discuss any particular "AI" tool, or the problems those tools introduce into a particular system. (I'm being a little bit general right now and not drilling into specific terminology because I'd rather talk about work in broad strokes here.)
One of my frustrations with the conversation around "AI" for the past year or two has been that tools that I've used for years are now being assigned the AI label because, overall, it helps the companies sell the tools.
So when people online advocate for never using any AI ever... am I supposed to abandon tools for automated image masking? Scheduling assistants? Identifying fonts? Categorizing, labelling, and highlighting similarities in a database?
I've drafted policies and contracts that forbid generative "AI" use. There are ways to write about these tools, and there are ways to write about how work should be completed, how intellectual property should be treated, and whether generative tools in general can be used for a project. The purpose of these contracts are to communicate to the contractor what the company's expectations are and what the contractor's responsibilities are. Inherently, this has consequences for who's liable if the company gets in trouble with a client or vendor because it turns out copyrighted material or generative "AI" tools were used, so... please actually read your contracts everyone, I am begging you.
The conversation online ends up snagged between rabidly pro-tech hype and rigidly anti-automation positions, with the people who actually deal with the real-world impact of these technologies talked over and caught in the middle. In my opinion, the harsh judgments of either side betray their ignorance more often than not.
When you talk about what should be culturally acceptable, whether that's allowing ChatGPT in classrooms or dragging Wizards of the Coast through the dirt for publishing AI art, I'd like you to think a bit about exactly what you're asking for. At that point, even when we disagree, we might all learn a bit more (and attack each other less.)
"There was an exchange on Twitter a while back where someone said, ‘What is artificial intelligence?' And someone else said, 'A poor choice of words in 1954'," he says. "And, you know, they’re right. I think that if we had chosen a different phrase for it, back in the '50s, we might have avoided a lot of the confusion that we're having now." So if he had to invent a term, what would it be? His answer is instant: applied statistics. "It's genuinely amazing that...these sorts of things can be extracted from a statistical analysis of a large body of text," he says. But, in his view, that doesn't make the tools intelligent. Applied statistics is a far more precise descriptor, "but no one wants to use that term, because it's not as sexy".

Mastering Supply Chain Onboarding in Saudi Arabia: The Digital Edge

In today’s dynamic global economy, and especially within Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Vision 2030 framework, the efficiency of supply chains is paramount. For supply chain professionals in the Kingdom, accelerating the onboarding of new vendors and partners isn’t merely an operational task — it’s a critical strategic imperative.
Every delay in bringing a new vendor on board or finalizing a contract can translate into stalled operations, missed opportunities, and increased costs. Embracing digital solutions for supply chain onboarding is therefore no longer an option, but a necessity for competitive advantage and compliance.
Traditional vendor onboarding processes are notoriously bottleneck-ridden. They involve cumbersome manual steps: sharing physical documents, lengthy legal redlining and drafting, financial validation, and multiple stakeholders delaying approvals or losing track of emails.
This fragmented approach lacks visibility and audit-ability, creating inefficiencies that directly impact project timelines and operational fluidity.
The Digital Solution: Streamlining the Onboarding Bottleneck
Modern supply chains rely heavily on third-party vendors for everything from raw materials to logistics and IT services. The pressure to improve digital maturity and gain a competitive procurement advantage drives the need for streamlined onboarding. Digital solutions transform this process, making it secure, fast, and compliant.
Key elements of a digital supply chain onboarding system include:
Fast, Traceable Contract Execution:
Sending contracts and Purchase Orders (POs) in real-time eliminates printing and scanning.
Automated reminders reduce waiting times for signatures.
Flexible sequential or parallel signature workflows accelerate approvals from weeks to hours.
2. Real-Time Visibility and Reporting:
Tracking the status of every document (who has signed, who hasn’t) provides complete transparency.
Access to full audit trails details the time, source, and method of each action.
Bilingual reporting capabilities support internal reviews and audits, crucial for multi-national operations in Saudi Arabia.
3. Frictionless Experience for External Vendors:
Vendors can sign documents without needing to create an account or special login, significantly reducing onboarding friction.
Mobile-friendly interfaces allow for quick signing, often in under 30 seconds.
An Arabic-first interface aligns with Saudi business expectations, enhancing user adoption.
Common Digital Onboarding Use Cases in Supply Chain
Digital platforms revolutionize various aspects of procurement and supply chain management:
Vendor Registration & Compliance: Streamlining forms, compliance checklists, NDAs, bank account verifications, and Commercial Registration (CR) documentation.
Contracting: Efficiently managing Purchase Orders (POs), framework agreements, rate cards, contract amendments, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Operations & Documentation: Digitizing delivery receipts, acceptance forms, maintenance logs, equipment handovers, and incident reports.
Why Digitizing Onboarding is Key for Saudi Procurement Leaders
For Saudi businesses, the strategic benefits of digital supply chain onboarding are profound:
Enhanced Compliance: Solutions designed for the Saudi market ensure 100% local data residency (e.g., within Class C Saudi cloud), full alignment with PDPL (Personal Data Protection Law), NCA ECC standards (National Cybersecurity Authority Essential Cybersecurity Controls), and DGA (Digital Government Authority) licensing. This provides critical legal enforceability and audit readiness.
Widest Verification Suite: Platforms offer diverse signer verification options, including government-backed methods like Absher and Nafath (web/app), biometrics, alongside simpler options like email, SMS, or WhatsApp. This flexibility caters to varying levels of trust and types of agreements.
Seamless Integration Capabilities: Modern digital onboarding platforms provide REST APIs for integration with existing procurement or ERP systems (like SAP, Oracle, Microsoft 365). This creates a unified digital ecosystem, eliminating data silos and enabling automated data flow.
Flexible Deployment: Companies can choose deployment models that best suit their IT architecture and compliance needs, including SaaS (cloud), on-premise, or CloudPrem hybrid solutions.
By digitizing supply chain onboarding, Saudi organizations can drastically reduce time-to-value for new suppliers, minimize operational disruptions, improve data accuracy, and enhance compliance. This leads to stronger protection against fraud, improved data quality, and better visibility across the entire supply chain.
Conclusion
In the competitive and rapidly evolving Saudi market, optimizing the supply chain is paramount for business success. Digital onboarding solutions are not just about automating paperwork; they are about fundamentally transforming how companies engage with their vendor ecosystem.
By leveraging advanced e-signature and document management platforms tailored to Saudi regulations, businesses can achieve faster, more secure, and highly compliant supply chain operations, driving efficiency, building stronger relationships, and directly contributing to the nation’s Vision 2030 objectives.
