Little story time from adventures in bush flying this last week! So my silly goofy hobby of collecting vintage art supples came in handy in the field working on the heli yesterday

The pilot who runs the show is an old guy who insists on using the old Autopoint mechanical pencils, the dual kind with a red lead on the reverse side in all our daily maintenance & flight logs (not the actual aircraft logbooks of course).

We ran out of the last lead we had with in the field, and he forgot to keep a spare in the heli's map box. And legally the heli could not fly without signing off the 2 inspection entries. We were literally in the middle of nowhere, so no one else nearby had any pencils, they're all out there fishing and camping. Luckily I just so happened to have my bag of art supplies with and a bunch of vintage Autopoint leads. Saved the day with my art sillies 👉👈

I will now be keeping some of those pencil leads in my travel toolbox x3

the ruling pen and autopoint pencil were from an old box of my grandpa's drafting tools from like, the fifties. I now own a whole bunch of cool tools and a hoard of autopoint pencils he pilfered from E.Lilly, so that's cool!

the little orange shot glass is a dappen dish I got from a dental lab! I've got a bunch now. there's a shallow side and a deeper side and they're perfect for mixing inks to paint with
