"I haven’t written in my journal in a very long time. And my last entry was about how I hoped to write more, ironic. But today I was inspired by something remarkable. The sound of children playing. There are so many ways to describe this beautiful, pure, innocent, sweet, joyous noise I’m hearing. It reminds me of a giggle. So young and unaware of the dangers and cruel realities of the world. It made me realize how old I truly am, and how long 18 years is as a period of time. Yet also, I realized how short it is, how short my whole life will be in the grand scheme of things. We’ve found dinosaur bones that are prehistoric… Will something find me? Will someone find my journal? Such an arbitrary thought, something I would never have thought about when I was as young as the children playing outside my window. I envy their imaginations’, and creativity. And youthfulness; someone told me when I was young, that I would miss it. I wish I had believed them. Still, I’m grateful my body is so robust, because I know I’m only blessed with this moment for this moment, and I’ll never be this young again."

let's recap.

So, the first year is over. It's actually been over for a month now, but I've been super busy sleeping. I can't shake this feeling that I need to be working on something, but realistically I'm done. I could work on my independent study, or try to get a jump start on prepping for my oral exams, but I just can't bring myself to care right now. I'm also working a ton, so that's my excuse.

My boss has decided that since I'm not in classes right now, I have become her personal slave. "Go get my change from the Subway lady." "Go to the doctor's and fight this insurance claim for me." "Go get these pants hemmed." "Go to the grocery store for me." Seriously? Last time I checked, you hired me as a nanny. Check it, lady.

I told myself that when the summer started I would get back into running. That hasn't happened yet. Oops.

The first year was awesome. Stressful, yes. Crazy busy, oh yeah. Nervous-breakdown-inducing, definitely. But now that I look back at it, I loved everything. Next year is only going to get more ridiculous, but I am in love with my program. I miss my kids from lunch so much. Seven little boys who kept me laughing every day. Working with them was the best part of the year. Even after my classes ended, I got to continue doing lunch and recess til their school year ended, and I looked forward to it every day. I wish I had time to work summer school so I could play with them some more, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will have a student teaching rotation with them next year. Won't know for a long time, though. Boo.

This summer means humidity here in St. Louis. Now, living in Florida for so long, I know humidity. But in St. Louis, it's a whole new level. Florida heat starts out slow, gets hotter as the day goes on, and cools off when the sun goes down. In St. Louis, you could go outside at 8 in the morning and BAM it's so humid you could slice through the air with a knife. And it stays that way all day long. Even at night. 100 degrees during the day? 100 degrees that night. Ugh. Bring it on.

I am most looking forward to the beach in July. Not that I want the summer to fly by, but I need some beach in my life Like, yesterday. Can't freaking wait for Florida.

I'll try to post pictures of some of the things I'm up to this summer. So far we've had a wine and food festival (including a free Hanson concert), a trip to the new downtown library (gorgeous), and some nights out on the town (sobriety not included).
