You know, BBC need to go back to creating shows like Merlin, Atlantis and Musketeers. Those were top quality.
Give me all the beautiful people, their adventures and silliness and barely concealed homoerotic subtext.

for some reason I can’t post this in my bbc atlantis first time reaction thread, but I think that’s destiny because HOLY FUCKING SHIT YOU GUYS NEED TO WATCH THIS
THIS IS BASICALLY THE DISIR!!!!!!!
ALLL OVER AGAIN!!!!!!
With the only slight difference that instead of misleading him, the person who cares about him most in the world ACTUALLY openly tells him what he thinks is the right thing to do.
Which is EXACTLY what fucking led the whole destiny thing to go down in merlin, because he couldn’t be truthful with arthur and tell him what he truly believes. Even if the circumstances were different and merlin wasn’t haunted by the prophecy, he still could have revealed it without revealing his magic, and then arthur would have been aware of the actual consequences of his choice.
Like. For some reason now I honestly see that it wasn’t even about arthur’s choice. Here pythagoras advises jason and he still chooses the “wrong” thing. But if it went the same way with the disir— merlin revealing his genuine beliefs and then arthur still choosing to save mordred— then the whole thing would at least be justifiable because arthur KNEW then the whole image and proceeded accordingly. In the disir they made him go in blind, and that’s the fucking problem.
I am going fucking insane.

stumbled across bbc atlantis on iplayer and holy shit. this show was something. they crammed it so full of recogniseable figures from greek mythology like medusa, hercules, the minotaur and then said "oh yeah and pythagoras is here too. the guy with the triangle theory. he is also here. and he's traumatised and autistic". then in the second season they said "oh, he's gay and his boyfriend is icarus btw"
they made a highly famous mathematician into an overly anxious gay loser and then, to quote that one post about dead boy detectives, they tossed him at tumblr like a wedding bouquet

one of my favourite things about bbc atlantis is the ‘this is how things are deal with it’ attitude. any other show, if the protagonist got magically teleported from the 21st century to ancient greece, the whole story would have been about getting home.
not jason. this dumbass washes up on a beach and ten minutes later he’s waltzing around like he’s lived there his entire life. truly iconic.

If I got to include one character from Arthuriana to add to Merlin, I would have loved to see Sir Accolon (Jack Donnelly), Morgana's most loyal and trusted servant/lover!
I do know if the writers had Accolon on the show, they would have done something different...so here is my vision for the story for BBC Accolon 😉
(Alternatively you can also watch this as a BBC Atlantis crossover with Jason/Morgana. I feel the story line fits Jason well).
Synopsis:
Accolon is introduced in early s2 as just a squire/knight and who falls in love with the enchanting goddess, the Lady Morgana. He is supportive of her when he finds out about her magic.
So much so that he attempts to kill Uther. He is caught and tried for treason but escapes. The show continues on as it did for s3.
Morgana and Accolon do not reunite until maybe midway through s4. When they do meet, Accolon notices something has changed. This isn't the Morgana he fell in love with.
And while he wanted Uther dead to protect Morgana, he never wanted Morgana to fall into a power hungry craze. She asks Accolon to join her quest for the throne of Camelot. Realizing she won't change, Accolon refuses and leaves her.
I believe there would be one episode after this where Accolon will seek out Morgana to try and kill her for all the wrong she's done (someone, perhaps "Emrys" aka Merlin, manipulated/cursed him into turning on Morgana). But when he sees her, the spell breaks.
Morgana believes Accolon's assissination attempt was because he was working for Arthur. This leaves Morgana no choice but to hunt down Accolon and kill him.
While Accolon dies in her arms, she finds out that he was under Emrys's spell. Accolon would never have betrayed her like that.

I swear I’ll shut up about this eventually, but I just so badly need more people to watch BBC Atlantis, because Pythagoras and Icarus is just such an insane fucking ship to be made canon and also they’re so fucking sweet and I love them and I just need someone to scream about it with

Other people watching Atlantis!!! It definitely didn’t garner the audience Merlin did and so unfortunately ends on something of a cliffhanger. (Hope that’s not really a spoiler.) Still! I think it was a fun show in its own right! And I like seeing Mark Addy in things. I’m looking forward to your thoughts!
Also going to take a second and let you know the BBC did a Robin Hood show around the same time as Merlin. Another kinda low-budget goofy yet sometimes tragic fantasy series with little regard for the source material. If you wanted to know and didn’t already.
I can’t possibly understand why it doesn’t have a fanbase as strong as ours! The show is so good on its own it genuinely feels like a piece of greece. I am forever mourning their loss, aka will be turning as many people as I can to their doom (watching it) so we don’t suffer alone.
Wait; do you mean to tell me, an olympic archer, that there is a bbc show about my man of archery and I’VE NEVER SEEN IT???????
What the fuck was going on with bbc in the 2010 era
