synopsis : f!reader gets sylus to cool her down when her fever gets too unbearably hot by calling him over

you lay in his (basically yours at this point) black silk sheets, tossing and turning, kicking your feet in nothing but a small black vest and your underwear. no matter how much you shimmied around, your feet felt hot, your entire body burned with a heat that made your sweat feel unbearably lukewarm and sticky on your skin.

the sheets were most definitely damp from all the cold (now room temperature) towels that you had used to try to cool your body. but to no avail. nothing was making it more bearable. 5 cool towels around your neck just didn't cut it.

and so, you crawl across the endless expanse of bedding to grab your phone (with some difficulty). there was only one person you wanted to see you like this.

you spam him with this sticker about 10 times before the three dots finally appear. you wait for two seconds...five...ten...god why is this message taking so long? you grumble, huffing with his pillow tucked under your chin and contemplating throwing your phone against the plush back of his bed.

he calls you before you manage to hurl your device,

"kitten? do you need something? i'm at the store now."

"huh? i thought you said you'd be at an auction?"

he chuckles,

"i was at one. but you only text when you want something... or if you miss me... and considering how you're in my room and i saw you this morning, i assume it's the former. though i'd be very flattered if it was the latter."

"i also text when i see something that reminds me of you."

"that fits into the latter." he smile through the phone. you can faintly hear the bustle of the convenience store as well.

"...i feel a fever coming on. can you get me some ice cream?"

"got it. what else?"

"i want you..." you mumble into his pillow, feeling sluggish.

"..."

"respond..." you whine close to tearing up.

but before you can pick up more of a fuss, he's already next to the bed with a grocery bag in one hand and his phone in the other and his evol swirling around him.

not really thinking, you immediately go to nuzzle your heated face into his tummy. it's not really that comfortable, and you brush against the cold metal of his zippers that scratch at your face. but, nonetheless, it's just what you needed. he always is.

he puts away his phone and the bag onto the floor, gently carding through your hair and his voice a soft rumble,

"hi sweetie... want your ice cream now?"

"later..." you take his hands, putting them on your face in a happy mewl, "so cool..."

"aren't you just a cutie? does my princess want me to cool her down?" he smiles, sliding one hand down to your sweltering neck. you exhale in satisfaction, it's a little congested and you look like a sticky mess...but he thinks you're adorable. he always will.

spoiling you was irreplaceable to him. there was nothing in the world more special than the feeling of being your one and only prince, dictated by his only princess. you could have anything you wanted, be as bratty and as demanding as you wanted, surrounded by luxuries and comfort and you chose him to be your supplier and partner in it all. it was undeniably his favourite feeling in the world.

you nod, settling like putty into his large hands. gently but surely bringing you back to a comfortable temperature. as you drift off, you hear him softly humming to you a lullaby. something familiar but yet not quite. he might not have ever experienced the song in his own childhood, but everything he found beautiful and comforting was something he would share with you.

your life adorned in joy and comfort would always be his priority.

and actually, I'll say it. despite the fandom's typical treatment of both characters, grimshaw is the psychologically interesting evil-but-nuanced character that micah is not. there's layers there. time-period relevant societal pressure that she can never live up to, her personal relationships w/ other camp members, e.g her bitterness over being ditched by dutch for a younger woman playing into her internalised misogyny and how that manifests in her treatment of other women, how she does genuinely awful things but does them under the impression that she's doing the right thing/the way things "ought" to be done, her mix of care and toxic possessiveness over the girls, her attitude towards her "sons" vs her "daughters" and how that reflects her own self hatred, the fact that she sees mothering no biological children + her own fading youth as some kind of failing etc etc. there are sympathetic sides of her among her contemptible actions that actually do prompt you to dissect her as a character if you care to pay attention to the small details. AND she's a milf, like...

DEBUNKING SOME COMMON COMIC COMPLAINTS:

the funniest shit ever is when i say "oh hey friend you should give batman comics a try i think you'll like them!" and the response is "no thanks he's a bad dad in those i'll stick to fics." because like... i swear to you on my life Bruce Wayne Ao3 has done worse shit in fics than he ever has in canon.

"oh but you can just filter those tags/ignore those stories—" you can. do the same with comics... this man has been around for decades. do you think every story was exactly the same? not even the SAME writers write him the same way twice. (EXAMPLE: Frank Millers 'Batman Year One' has bruce jump off a bridge to save a baby. Frank Millers 'Batman and Robin All Stars' has bruce feed dick rats.)

"oh but fics are free—" so are comics 🏴‍☠️... unless ur a coward. whoever told you that you have to buy comics to read them or enjoy them is a liar and you should explode them. spending money and collecting is a completely personal (and life altering) decision.

"it's so hard to find specific comics/dynamics/tropes etc" the internet is truly a fantastic place. you can find a reading list or blog for the most niche of characters, so you will have absolutely no problem finding one for the bastard man who appears in every single comic ever published by dc. if not, ask your comic friends and not friends, comic blogs, tiktok comment sections etc. there will be one hyperfixated enthusiast eagerly awaiting the opportunity to give you their extensive guide.

"i just want to read/create my own story with them" you and me both buddy. reading comics doesn't mean you are not allowed to let yourself indulge in completely impossible fanon scenarios that heal or ruin your life. in fact, do you know the inexplicable euphoria that comes with stumbling upon a fic that rewrote a canon event? continued a badly finished comic story? it's life changing. fun to write too!

if you don't want to read comics for whatever reason, fine, literally whatever — but if you want to and certain things are holding you back from doing do, this is for you! who gaf about fandom discourse and "name me three batman comics"-ism, just don't hold yourself back from exploring this media even further! if anything, having a couple comics under your belt makes analysis and discussion far more genuine, and not like your chatting shit from out your ass.

how canon do we think warzone is? characterisation things like the takedowns and voice lines?

obviously the takedowns are flashy as hell, that's the point, but things like ghost's "cheers ya slag" and "done and dusted" paint him as so much more arrogant than the campaign suggests

but he is arrogant ("i've seen better" "who?" "me") and we never see him work solo except for the opening scene in mw2 where he chooses to remain danger close to a missile (either just bc or bc he wanted to ensure the kill) so who's to say he doesn't act like that on his own? you even see a hint of it in the camera mission when he shows off to soap and jumps off the building to land on the shadow; what is that if not an arrogant, flashy takedown?

if he's happy to do that in the middle of a stealth mission what else would he do just bc he can?

we know warzone is canon in some respects like the seasonal cutscenes (ala alex's resurrection and "i wasn't in that tank") so at least those are canon but what about everything in between? do specgru and kortac exist in canon? is the 141 part of some greater allied team? (which begs the question why do they never try to contact them when the world is literally on the brink but that’s a very meta, “why didn’t anyone call the avengers in their solo movie?” level of nitpick and we don’t do that here, serious nitpicks only)

do we consider them in character? or is it technically an au? is warzone even made by the same team? would characterisation mean anything to them beyond “does it make the character sound cool?”

even zombies, soap takes on a lot more of a leadership role than we see in the campaign, do we think that's how he acts when he's not with the 141? bc that's a significant shift to go from a leader to a clear subordinate without any chafing or annoyance at getting dropped down the pecking order

then you take skins into account; things like ghost's senpai skin is obviously an au but if he gets new takedowns with it (i haven't played and don't know how it works Imao) do we think main ghost still has that skill set? or is it possible for him to learn it? would he want to?

i think the campaigns are set in stone canon but even that characterisation can be touch and go considering how dirty they did price in mw3 and even how mellow he was in mw2 compared to mw19 and just... everything about the final mw3 mission (and mw3 in general, even shepherd being in the helo when they detain makarov in verdansk is ooc as hell and only exists to serve the narrative)

(characterisation in this aspect is difficult to pin down bc it's hard to tell how much is them writing the character of soap, the character of ghost, and how much is them just writing generic military man 1 and generic military man 2; there's some personality and growth but we have to admit it's thin and subtextual at best. how much of soap's behaviour is bc that's how they wanted soap specifically to react and how much is it bc that's how a military guy would react? (things like being angry about releasing hassan when graves reacts the same way))

so if canon isn't even consistent, can we even trust warzone's characterisation?

do we think it's canon? or is it just battleworld where they can act however the devs want so we spend money on it?

I'm not a fan of babies, but I'll give this a try...

"Would you like to hold the baby?"

Sans gave you a tentative look, almost asking for your permission to hold the baby first.

You'd been the one giving birth to them for hours. Why would the nurse ask him instead of you?

"Go ahead," you nodded at him with a reassuring look.

Sans gulped as he put his arms out. The nurse started by placing the baby's diapered butt on one hand, then their head on the other.

It made sense to hand them that way, since the baby had absolutely no strength on their neck yet.

"it's good to finally meet you," Sans chuckled quietly. He wasn't sure if the baby was asleep or not. "you certainly know how to make an entrance."

You watched Sans with heavy lidded eyes, as he walked closer to you to study your baby.

"five fingers, five toes..." he hummed, handing the baby to you, "i'd say you made a fine baby."

You just smiled, accepting the baby and carefully wrapping them with your arms.

"they say babies need skin to skin contact," he hummed as he lifted up your sleeve a bit. "that way they connect with their parents better or something like that."

"I think it just comforts them," you chuckled, looking down at the baby before looking at Sans.

He had his eye dots glued to the baby.

"Take that off," you scoffed at him.

"my hoodie?"

"And your t-shirt."

He stared at you as soon as you said it, his smile frozen in a weird arch.

Nurses were still coming in and out of the room, so you understood his hesitance.

"Please," you rolled your eyes, "these medical professionals have seen this baby rip my insides. They'll survive seeing your ribcage."

"heh," he shook his head before taking off his hoodie , "i guess you're right, but i think you forgot about one little detail."

"What's that?"

He pulled his t-shirt over his head with ease, looking down at his naked chest before tapping his breastbone.

You raised a brow at him expectantly.

"i don't have no skin."

You rolled your eyes, stretching your arms to hand him the baby back. "You're his dad. They'll manage with what you have."

"i don't think babies are too adaptable," he stressed as he held the baby again.

They seemed fuzzy now. Like they'd just been waken from a nap, but their eyes were still closed.

"i know, buddy," he nodded with his eye sockets closed, "i hate it when people keep passing me around when i'm napping.

"I'm sure it happens often," you chuckled.

Sans kept looking at the baby as they seemed to settle down again, watching them slowly reaching for his chest with their little hands.

"i think they're looking for boobs," Sans whispered.

"Let them look," you snorted, a big smile plastered in your face.

Your baby's hand finally settled on a rib, grabbing it with their four fingers on one side and a thumb on the other.

"look," Sans blinked at the baby.

"I told you they would manage with ribs."

"i think they're afraid i might drop them."

"They're just getting attached," you hummed, closing your eyes.

Sans just looked at the baby's face, studying all the similarities they had with you. The ears were the same. So was the forehead somehow.

How are foreheads even similar when you have no hairline yet?

The baby hiccuped, making a weird face that almost made him burst out laughing.

I feel like a number of things can happen... The funniest to me is the potential for Yuu to get their hand stuck - like, picture with me...

Ace is teasing Yuu and being a bit of a little shit. Yuu, naturally, gets tired of his shit and tries to gently bonk him over the head to get him to stop. Only for their hand to immediately feel like that static-y pins and needles tingly feeling when you move your leg after you've been sat on it too long completely fills their hand in an instant.

And they can't pull it away.

It's like there's a beat of silent shock as everyone who witnessed the exchange just kinda pauses to process before-

Ace: "WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK"

Yuu: I DON'T KNOW I FORGOT YOUR HEAD IS 90% EYE

Ace: TAKE IT OUT!?!??!

Yuu: I CAN'T--

It takes the assistance of Trey and Cater to calm Ace down so that Yuu's hand can be pulled from the sticky mucous membrane that apparently helps protect beings with such large eyes from larger debris or weak attacks.

Yuu: who tf are you calling weak?

Cater: Not you, Yuu-yuu!

Yuu leaves that encounter with a hand covered in a reddish iridescent goo and new knowledge about how some of their new, weird friends work. (And a whiney ace about how the spot where their hand got stuck feels weird and numb for the next few minutes)

Trey: What did we learn?

Yuu: Ace's eye goo tastes like cherries.

Trey: No, we- wait did you eAT IT?!!?!?!
