I think I found my favorite BTS photo of Michael as Betelgeuse in BJBJ. (It looks grainy because I took a screenshot from a YouTube video and then cropped and zoomed 😆). Look at ✨him✨.

Maybe it’s my overactive imagination, but I feel like that strange shadow behind the priestess looks like Delia’s sculpture 🤷🏻‍♀️

"If he (Tim) didn't do it now, he wouldn't do it"
Which is parallel to Lydia's line in the sequel...
"If I don't do it now, I'm never gonna do it"
... In regards to marrying Rory, and some would say, to Betelgeuse (if she hasn't forgotten about the marriage contract she signed).
Before y'all be subjected to another Beetlejuice Beetlejuice scene pack analysis, I can't stress enough on how much of Burton has projected himself on Lydia. And I love that. He truly is the voice and advocate for everyone who sees themselves as strange and unusual.
Thinking about it now, with everything that's happened in the past hour, when Lydia got reminded about her pending nuptials, was her mind really on the wedding with Rory, or Betelgeuse?
This particular line and shot though, "Rory loves me, and that's got to be enough", //the camera pans down, tombstones on focus, a ground shot of the runaway bride. Lightning and thunder once again heralding the events to come//. A callback to the infamous, "It's Showtime."
Betelgeuse loves her. He hasn't done anything to disprove of that. So, wouldn't what Lydia said about Rory be similar with Betelgeuse?
If she and Betel had a serious one on one, without the impending sense of doom nipping at their feet, if Lydia had taken all of Betelgeuse's signs, flirting, references and him saying to her face that she's the love of his life seriously, and if Astrid didn't point out that "loophole" in the marriage contract, then wouldn't that mean Lydia would've truly gone ahead and marry him?

Since they rebuilt the Maitlands' house for Beetlejuice 2, it would be neat (and helpful) if they posted the floor plan somewhere. I have so many screenshots of the house from the OG film but still find it difficult to map it in my head

Woah!!!!!!!!
CHECK IT OUT!!! Check HIM out!!!!
A big "IN YOUR FACE" to those who complained about the "horrible CGI" of THIS SCENE...
Tumblr media
... in the trailers.
As Tim, the cast and the people behind the production have said before, little to no CGI used in most of these close up scenes involving the characters. Practical effects for the win!!!
Puppetjuice only appeared for a couple of seconds in the film, but I would kill anyone who ever badmouths him 😤 I love him so much 😭
That tongue will give me "nightmares".
They used a puppet! Animatronics! IN THE LIKENESS OF KEATLEJUICE!!!
I thought it was Keaton with a mask on or something at first 😆
I want it/him 😭😭😭 This is awesome 🔥
Also, Winona/Lydia's fake bump/body in the background. So cool.

More interesting info. from an interview with Jay Prychidny, editor for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
Lip synching to Richard Marx's "Right here waiting" was pretty much Michael Keaton's idea! Betelgeuse was supposed to verbally say those words to Lydia, something like "I'll always be here waiting for you". We owe the serenading scene to both Michael and Tim; Prychidny doesn't make it very clear if that was mostly Michael or Tim, but it definitely came from them.
Depending on how that was shot, it could have come off as stalkerish/creepy, but also as romantic and even sad because Betelgeuse is letting Lydia know he will always be waiting. That entirely depended on how the scene was directed, but especially coming out of the couples counseling scene with the Babyjuice and all that... I feel there was definitely a risk of the moment coming off with a darker vibe. Having Betelgeuse serenading Lydia to a love song instead, that was definitely the right choice. Not only did it elevate the scene, it also sealed the tone as romantic! It ended up coming off as Betelgeuse's own brand of romance, attempting to be romantic for his lady and let her know how he feels, and I LOVE Michael and Tim for that. It also ended up becoming one of the most memorable scenes in the movie.
Here's the excerpt from the interview:
With Beetlejuice, how much material did you have to play with there? How many options did Michael Keaton give you?
In terms of line delivery, it’s not like Michael was giving different line options, but frequently, what you get back is not what was in the script. So you read the scene, you know what they’re going to shoot, and then you get the scene back, and sometimes it could be almost nothing that was written on the page. Catherine [O’Hara] was the same way too. They worked through the script. They figured out amongst themselves what works for them and how they can make it better. How can you change it? How can you do something surprising?
For example?
One perfect example is when Michael does the lip sync of Richard Marx’s song. “Wherever you go, whatever you do, I’ll be here, right here, waiting for you.” That was written as a dialogue scene between Lydia in the attic and Beetlejuice down in the model. But they didn’t shoot it. They just got to set, like, “Oh, we don’t need to do this dialogue.” Instead, they just sang the song. They didn’t know if they had the rights to it. There were no options. On the page, he said something like, “I’ll always be here waiting for you.” I think that just gave them the idea of like, “Oh, that sounds like that song. Let’s just do the song.” They lip-sync and grab a guitar. All of this is happening on the fly.

Hello! I had seen you and other beetlebabes mention Tim Burton did NOT care for the musical and how it was a motivator to do the sequel and while I believed it, I absolutely GUFFAWED when I saw that clip of him cringing at the musical reference!!! Like damn, you really clocked it! Hilarious AF and very vindicating, and I say this as a musicalbabe. Thank you for bringing receipts 🪲💚
i was watching that shit last night in a trance, here's the gif version
Tumblr media
I didn't need Tim to tell me this. I knew this already because I am an actual fan of his work and I paid attention. Anyone who is paying attention could have guessed this. And if you're reading this and still questioning the beef with Alex Brightman? Ask yourself why Michael Keaton showed public favor to the Brazilian Beetlejuice actor (a version of the production that allegedly closely resembles the movie's aesthetic and is very respectful) but has yet to give Alex Brightman, who publicly begged for his attention, the time of day?
Winona said that MK is very protective of her. Winona is the Original Beetlebabe. Alex Brightman in all his ignorant hubris insulted her personally. The dots are not that hard to connect.
Edit: My bad I completely forgot to mention that @shoujophobic is fully to credit for both finding and gifing this. I would not have known about this moment if not for him.
