You get your voice heard. You get to be a part of a great cause without having to spend any money. You get to try new things (in my country Cuba Cola has gained new popularity as Coca-Cola is boycott). You get to save money. By not spending money on non-essentials you save a lot of money you may not even realise you spent. It gives you more of an opportunity to shop local and learn what you have around you. You can learn a new skill. Instead of going to starbucks you can learn that creating signature drinks is fairly simple and a lot cheaper. You may even get health benefits. By not buying items such as junk food or by making a homemade version of something you will most likely have a positive impact on you health!

In many cases, self-checkout has been sold to consumers as being about convenience, but in reality, it's about spending less money on labor.
Over the past few years, nearly all the major chains that sell groceries have installed self-checkout lanes. The results, however, have been very mixed as while labor costs come down, shoplifting — both intentional and accidental — goes up.
"39% of all thefts within grocery stores occur at self-checkout," according to data from loss prevention platform Auror which based its information on 2.5 million transactions across 10,000 stores. The average self-checkout theft costs a store $120, or one 8-hour shift of a cashier making $15 an hour.
Kroger has tried all self-checkout stores in very select locations including a store in Tennessee that was retrofitted to remove the traditional checkout lanes. That store was picked because a high number of that location's customers were already using self-checkout, a Kroger spokesperson told WKRN.
"These allow our customers to scan and bag their own items,” said Kroger Corporate Affairs Manager Lauren Bell, told the station, adding that it makes the experience faster.
The chain, however, made it clear that not every checkout clerk was replaced by self-checkout. Bell shared that there were still employees who could help with checkout for those who don't want to or can't use self-checkout.
“We still have staff at the front end ready and willing to step in to assist those customers,” said Bell.
Kroger had tested the self-checkout-only concept in a Dallas store beginning in early 2021. That store was also retrofitted to eliminate traditional cashier-based checkout lanes and some other changes were made.
The retailer added "wide-belted self-checkouts [that] can accommodate large-volume purchases” and “will still have cashiers and courtesy clerks to help customers” who need assistance," NFCW.com reported.
Kroger recently quietly ended the self-checkout-only experiment in Dallas. The company has brought back some tradtiional checkout lanes at the store.
"We listened closely to customer feedback and made the decision to convert back to hosting staffed checkout lanes at this store,” Kroger spokesman John Votava told The Dallas Morning News.
That move comes after key rivals including Target, Walmart, and Dollar General have made self-checkout locations in some stores. Target has imposed item limits at self-checkout in some stores while Walmart has removed self-checkout in select stores.
Walmart has also given employees at some stores the ability to shut off self-checkout so security personnel can check whether a company has not scanned certain items. That's a controversial move because it's being presented to customers as a technology breakdown rather than a stall tactic designed to allow for a bad check.
Dollar General has also decided to cut down its reliance on self-checkout. The company's CEO Todd Vasos talked about the change during his company's third-quarter earnings call.
"We plan to increase the employee presence at the front end of our stores and in particular, the checkout area. While self-checkout has contributed to the convenient proposition for our customers in certain stores, it does not reduce the importance of a friendly, helpful employee who is there to greet customers and assist while the checkout process is happening.," he said.

Because god forbid someone who is already getting stomped on by the system has access to a clean bathroom. Nah. If you're homeless, you shit in the street like an animal. That way we get to arrest you for... having an uncontrollable bodily function and nowhere to go to relieve yourself. God forbid a homeless person get to sit in comfort on a climate-controlled bus to get somewhere with public bathrooms or... GASP! Sleeping on the bus? Nah, nah, let them roast or freeze on the sidewalks. God forbid homeless people need to... travel to a grocery store or a soup kitchen or, again, somewhere with a public bathroom so that they don't have to... shit in the corner of a parking garage. On food stamps? Between jobs? Tough shit. Spend 3 hours a day walking to and from the grocery store to buy your cup noodle.
Note that the reason to deny these public goods and services is always to prevent poor people from using them because... If something gets damaged, whether as a result of natural wear and tear or because you get one tweaker every so often that rips the public stall doors off their hinges, if you're poor and homeless and untrackable, they "can't hold you accountable." "Oh no we simply HAVE to prevent poor homeless people from using our facilities because what if a really drunk guy shits on the floor of the public bathroom instead of unto the toilet and we have to call the human waste disposal crew?!" As if this doesn't happen with sober folks in the Starbucks bathrooms or in the goddamn Subway sandwich shop where you have to make a purchase and ask for a key so they know who the fuck you are when you blast ass on the walls.
Never forget that you are being personally inconvenienced and prevented from using facilities you pay for with your taxes because there's a CHANCE that someone will do something bad that costs money to fix and you are being snookered into believing that the odds are greater in the homeless and poor populations. And instead of the solution being to get these people the help they need to not constantly be drunk or on drugs or otherwise inclined to vandalize a public amenity, they are barred from PUBLIC SPACES where they have TANGIBLE BENEFITS just so their shitting on the street instead of on the floor of a public bathroom costs the exact same amount of money. Just so their ability to get somewhere uses up one less seat on a bus that is already underutilized, just so when they ARE causing problems, it's somewhere that inconveniences you worse so that instead of being mad about their obvious lack of access to spaces to recover and exist, you get mad at them for taking up space and being a nuisance on your street so that you're grateful to have them stuffed in a jail cell to rot and rack up money for the FOR PROFIT PRISONS instead of being rehabilitated into a society where they can at the bare minimum exist without being a bother to others or, at best, contribute like the rest of society because the public gave them a goddamn chance.
You are being kept out of spaces that you pay for so that the people in charge of your tax dollars can hoard more of it for their salaries instead of paying to repair these spaces more frequently just because there's a chance that someone who doesn't and cannot help pay for these spaces might use them and/or cause damage to these spaces. Your access to public spaces and services that you already pay for is predicated on the exclusion of poor people who need those spaces and services most. This is not an accident.
