I know we collectively agree that Hiccup isn’t romantically inclined, and his getting married and having kids didn’t make sense in the epilogue, but consider: Hiccup getting married for political reasons.

It’s a marriage of alliance, which is recognized both by him and his partner, and they enter it without expectations of romantic involvement. Since they’re now married, they live in the same castle, spend time together, and Hiccup finds he really likes his spouse. They’re funny, get along with his friends, and has the same interests and values. They both probably speak multiple languages. She understands why Hiccup is so dedicated to making the Wilderwest better, and holds similar views. She’s a good politician (her job after all, was to be an ambassador). Hiccup likes spending time with them, and the feeling is mutual. They’re not in love, they have their own lives, but they’re dedicated to each other and eventually decide to raise children. They teach their kids how to train hawks and hunt with dragons, riding, history, the Languages, and all the necessary skills of their world. They’re not in love and they’re happy together.

Evolution of the sapient species from Enith!

I have no clue when sapience would have actually evolved for any of these guys. At least for the Kielni and Taysya it’s easy to say ‘sometime after their last common ancestor.’ That guy isn’t really to scale either, the species would have been mayyybe turkey sized?

But either way, Enith first invented space travel in the first Age of Enlightenment- and it’s been enough time since then that there are noticeable differences in the social corldaxian species.

HOPEFULLY??), but I guess I can talk about the other one because idk if/when I will write a fic for him (I'd like to but like I am only human)

"more AUs Dandy?" LISTEN all I do is sit around and think about "what if"s, okay?

ok so this started as me being like, hm, we see Lou Jitsu with a rotating door of women, so many he doesn't seem to remember all their names, so it's not totally out there to think he might have gotten one of them pregnant, right?

and thus Marcus (middle name Kyle) was born! literally!

so the story for this is, Lou Jitsu had a fling with a woman in the early 90s, pre-Big Mama. they were both in agreement that the whole thing was casual and it didn't last very long, but oopsie-daisy about six weeks after their last night together she finds out she's pregnant.

she debates what to do for a bit, because, as established, Lou Jitsu is kinda a fuckboi and she doesn't really want a relationship with him. But once she decides she's definitely keeping the baby she feels like she can't just not tell him, right? so she tries!

...unfortunately he's dating Big Mama by that point and she interferes to make sure that Lou Jitsu never meets with the woman and never finds out, because she knows this would get in the way of her plans.

she takes never hearing back from LJ as a sign he just isn't interested in the kid and resolves to single-motherhood. which she is the best at, btw.

she's still considering trying to introduce Marcus to his dad at some point, but unfortunately her kid isn't even 5 before Lou Jitsu suddenly goes missing, with his teary fiancée telling a sob story to the cops. assuming, same as everyone else, that he's dead, she lets the whole thing go, though she does tell Marcus who his dad is once he's old enough to understand everything.

Marcus goes through periods of being obsessed with Lou Jitsu, watching all his movies and consuming every piece of media about him that he can find, and periods where he can't stand to even hear the name. it's up and down. from his perspective, LJ abandoned him and his mom, but he's also dead, so it's not like he can have closure on this ever, right? so it's just a thing he has to deal with on his own.

but he's fine! he's alright. he gets through high school, then college, then accepted into vet school just fine.

then... his mom gets sick and dies.

yeah, that's a hard blow.

but he's alright! he has a few buddies from college he still sees now and then, and he's started his zoo vet residency at the Bronx Zoo (with a particularly special interest in reptiles), so lots of new people to meet that way! he's doing great! he's not lonely at all!

(a few months ago, he was suddenly woken up by a surge of something, like dozens of voices were crying out to him for help, tugging him toward something, saying his family needs him...

yeah, no idea what that was about. he doesn't have any family anymore.)

then the sky opens up and aliens come out.

Marcus is at work, because of course aliens would attack at the beginning of his shift. he spends the day ushering survivors into safe zones within the zoo, using his medical knowledge to handle first aid, and just trying to stay sane as the whole world turns upside down.

and then just as suddenly as it all started... it stops.

in the aftermath, everyone around him is just trying to get home, desperately calling their loved ones and praying for the best. Marcus starts trying to figure out how he's going to get home, because the trains definitely aren't running, and as he looks as his phone for a spark of inspiration, he realizes... no one has tried to call him. his coworkers' phones have been going off all day, whenever they can get signal, as loved ones try to reach them, but... he doesn't have anyone trying to reach him. and as he sits there he realizes he doesn't know who he should be calling, either.

so. that's pretty depressing.

and as he's sitting there, thinking about his life and what led him here, in a now empty vet clinic outside the bronx zoo... he hears a noise. and then, voices.

ah great. looters.

at first, Marcus tries to call 911 - but obviously the call center is swamped. so he decides to take care of the problem himself, going to see who's there and get rid of them...

wait, who is he kidding? he's definitely not paid enough to confront potentially armed looters! he's going to get out of here.

but just as he starts to leave, he hears the voices again - coming from one of the surgery rooms this time. and they're talking about IVs... scalpels... anesthesia...

suddenly he realizes that these aren't looters - they're here to try and treat somebody.

and like hell is he going to let some idiot kill someone trying to do DIY surgery.

so he turns back around and bursts into the room... on two humans, a rat that counts as giant even for New York, and four very big, very injured turtles.

one of whom immediately points a gun in his face. to be fair, that's what he thought would happen.

"Donnie!" yells the biggest one, and, oh, they can talk. huh.

"Relax, it's just a tranquilizer!"

"Donatello!" that's the rat. there's a sound like a whip cracking and the one with the gun makes a startled noise and drops it.

now the rat is in front of him. he's looking up at Marcus imploringly. "Do you work here?" he asks.

"Y-yeah. I'm a vet."

the rat bows very politely. "my sons are seriously hurt, and I don't have the supplies to help them at home. I understand it is a lot to ask, but... we must use your supplies. please, if you could just look the other way."

Marcus looks around at the turtles, especially the one on the table, the one worst off. he looks mangled. he won't live long if he isn't properly treated.

a rat, two humans who look like teenagers, and the turtles. who the rat called "sons". now that he's noticing, they're all pretty short, other than the big one. are they also teenagers?

"...Are any of you doctors?" he asks. the littlest one starts to raise a hand, but the girl grabs it and forces it back down.

everyone else has left by now. he's the only doctor here.

alright. guess he's doing this.

"...okay, everyone make some room. let me get sterilized, and I'll see what we're working with here."

and that's how the son Lou Jitsu didn't know he had becomes primary care doctor to his teenage mutant ninja half-brothers. ^^

Something something Bellara as an archaeologist and historian combo but with a mechanical engineering background. Works with Emmrich. Fixes all the machinery and vehicles herself on digs.

Something something lucanis having a coffee shop and or restaurant and technically being like, celebrity chef status but still insists on running things himself bc he likes cooking and being busy

Which part of Lord of the Rings is your favourit?

Oh! Where do I begin!?

When I was young, really young, I’d have to say my favorite was reading about Sam defeating Shelob, as an elementary schooler who was deathly afraid of spiders.

Then I got a little bit older and my favorite part was Eowyn. I was too young to fully grasp her character arc, so at the time I just thought it was really cool seeing a woman swing a sword and win. (I dressed up as her for Halloween!)

Maybe a year after that, when I started writing my chapters a little longer, my characters a little darker, because I thought it was fun and interesting, my favorite chapter was the Scouring of the Shire. (Scourging? Scouring? Apparently I can never get it right, ha ha!)

Tom Bombadil was definitely my favorite at… some point? I mean, it’s Tom Bombadil!

But what is my favorite part in Lord of the Rings? Why do I read and read and read these books and watch the movies over and over? Well, I’m afraid I can’t say it succinctly.

My favorite part…

Every time I read Lord of the Rings I come across my new favorite part, my new favorite character. I forget the little nuances each year and discover something new every time, every time.

The Talking Fox that shows up for a thought and then is whisked away.

Beregond and Bergil, who take Pippin under their wing in Gondor when Faramir and Denethor and Gandalf are busy.

Boromir, poor Boromir, who I’ve finally come to understand after all these years.

I love the snark of Bilbo in his notes to relatives, I love Frodo's inability to leave the Shire and his friends' inability to leave him. I love meeting Strider, not Aragorn, I love the quietness of Rivendell, I love how the Fellowship grows and interacts with each other. I love Boromir's short arc, I love the Three Hunters, I love the slow, deep thoughtfulness of Treebeard. I love Frodo's strength and hopeless hope, I love Sam's grounded nature and determination, I love every single poem and song that is thrown in there just because it can be. I love Faramir's wit, I love Gollum's complaining.

And I haven't even gotten to Return of the King.

In short (TL;DR), I discover my new favorite part every time I open up the book. Perhaps I'll be able to give you a better answer when I finish it again next year. :)

Heather's Bio

Born and raised in the Slums with her parents and identical twin sister, Helena, Heather was a happy – albeit poor – child. When she was three she found her world destroyed; a fire ravaged her home and her parents chose to only carry Helena out, leaving a crying Heather behind to die. Instead, Heather survived with an oddly shaped scar on her back resembling a pair of wings. Seeing divine intervention in her scar, priests from the Sky Church coerced Heather's parents into giving her up to the Church when she was only six years old. In the Church, her scar – though normal – was the stigma that proved the Sky Goddess had sheltered her during the fire. She was considered a “Sacred Girl” and raised to become a devout follower of the Sky Goddess, very rarely ever being allowed outside the walls of the Church, and never seeing her family again.

The stigma on her back makes her special in the eyes of the world, though it has also brought her many problems. She is constantly approached by men who try to get her to undress and take advantage of her with the excuse that they wish to view her “Holy Mark”. Indeed, there are many worshipers who would rather fanatically insist on touching her stigma rather than taking the help offered by the Church in times of trouble. Once, during an epidemic that led to a group of people in the Church to nearly start a riot, Heather revealed to the public that her scar was not special in any way in order to quell their misplaced religious fervor. This revelation caused many to lose faith in the church and for donations to dry up for a time, though large amounts of money were still donated by someone from the red-light district hiding her face behind a fan, a woman Heather recognized as her long lost sister who was secretly watching out for her from the shadows.

Heather has always shied away from people and confrontation, though in time she has found the courage to seek out her own desires. Just as great as her devotion to the Goddess is her love for her estranged sister. Indeed, Heather's curiosity about her sister is so great that – despite her fears and shyness – she sometimes ventures into the Slums on her own with the excuse of, “…[spreading] the Goddess' teachings to the women in the slums.” Though it often ends badly for her when she is mistaken for her prostitute sister, the “Flower of the Slums”, who shares her face. Heather had already tried to find her family before, but could only discover that her family's house had been destroyed years ago in the Slum Fire soon after she was given to the Church, and there was no news to be found of either her parents or her sister. Upon discovering Helena worked as a courtesan in the Flower District, Heather was shocked at the dangerous way Helena lived her life and how was treated by others. She mourned the way things had turned out and believed that her sister did not wish to see her again after all the time and change that had separated them, but still hoped against hope that one day they would be in each other's arms yet again.

While it may not be the idyllic ending she had hoped for, she and her sister were able to begin to build their relationship anew towards the end of the Sulla War. Heather had arranged for Helena to flee Finsel while deciding that she would remain in the Church because she wanted to stand by Cleric Pan, Florna, and the other Clergy who needed her support to do what they could for the citizens of Finsel, even if it meant their own deaths. She says, “Ever since I stepped into the church, I told myself the past will stay in the past. I will be the master of my own life from now on. Since I have decided to stay, I won't regret it!” Only to find that Helena had arranged the same for her while refusing to leave as well. Determined to change her mind, Helena finally came to talk to her and they embraced and spoke for the first time in ten years. Helena tried to trick Heather into leaving, alone, for her own safety, but Heather still knew her too well to be fooled, even after all this time. Ultimately, they both agreed to stay in Finsel together, and eventually survived the end of the war. While their relationship is still new and awkward, Heather is happy to be reunited with her sister and enjoys spending time together.
