PARKINSONIA CONVERGENS Fossil Ammonite – Zigzag Zone, Bajocian, Jurassic – Burstock Lane, Broadwindsor, Dorset, UK
About the Fossil:
This exceptionally preserved Parkinsonia convergens ammonite fossil originates from the Zigzag Zone, Convergens Subzone of the Bajocian stage (~170 million years ago) of the Middle Jurassic and was discovered in Burstock Lane, Broadwindsor, Dorset, United Kingdom. Parkinsonia is a genus of evolute ammonites, characterized by its strong ribbing, well-defined whorls, and distinctive suture patterns, making it a desirable fossil for collectors and researchers.
During the Middle Jurassic, ammonites like Parkinsonia convergens thrived in warm, shallow marine environments, where they were active swimmers, preying on small marine organisms. The Zigzag Zone, Convergens Subzone is a significant stratigraphic marker within the Inferior Oolite Formation, which is renowned for its diverse and well-preserved ammonite faunas.
