So since I predicted that Sloane and Luther would get together from the day she was announced as well as a couple of scenes- I feel obligated to share w y'all my batshit crazy idea of what I thought might happen in season 4 and like now that we have TWO trailers why I think it might happen. In other words-

So my initial thought was that in this new timeline they are themselves slotted into lives they don't initially remember, that the longer they dwell in the timeline the more they remember and some come to accept. Up until the inevitable happens and the world is at risk again for whatever reason. However, saving the world means giving up these perfect lives for accepting their shitty dysfunctional reality to save each other. Because the more they stay and accept the more they lose of previous timelines.

I was gonna write a fanfic but then my resident evil obsession started and if y'all have read any of my fanfic y'all know my history with long-fics.

Why do I now think this could actually be the case you ask?

At the end of season 3 Luther takes off after our girl Sloane with Klaus following but everyone else is just so calm. Soooo which leads us to

Trailer 1

Viktor might own or work in a bar. Which the fact that he seems to be somewhat settled for sure tells us that some time has possibly passed between season 3 and 4

The sign says "home for wayward boys" implying that Allison may not have been in the group and maybe neither Viktor before the transition. I'm also wondering if now that his wife is back maybe in this new timeline they both fostered/adopted our main characters.

Oh yeah did I mention Reginald's moon wife is alive? His whole thing with the children was his alien (literally) way to save her. Now she's alive.

Allison is with claire so she also possibly has her life back.

Ben is getting out of jail and like it could be a "time has passed between seasons" thing or something happens in one of the episodes where he winds up locked up.

Diego is at a kid's party and either has his own kid or a niece or something. it's not claire and the family behind him is not his umbrella fam.

MY BOY IS SO SMALL ITS GONNA BE SO WEIRD SEEING HIM "NORMAL" THIS SEASON also he looks kinda sad. trailer two debunks what I initially thought of his reveal in this trailer because I thought oh haha what if it's a Halloween costume but like we'll get to my season 2 crazies hang in there.

Klaus is upside down in an interior (proven by the radiator) so he is either stuck, meditating, in a trance, or it's Sloane holding him there. I also kinda wonder if he's going through a clean streak or something OCD like with his addictions from the whole blue gloves thing. tbh i saw those in the promo and thought it was blue screen and his hands were gonna be effed up lol.

ben shouts "lets go kill this bitch" and allison corrects "this is a rescue mission" sooooooo is reginal and or his wife the bitch in question? and like sloane is the only one missing from our group so maybe she's the one being rescued? or maybe one of the new characters (like gene and jean).

which brings me to a theory I'll get to after my trailer break down and before the second breakdown.

the subway is 100% a metaphor for the timelines AND that house diego and luther are at is the one from season two where they see reggie and grace at that party

opens with ben alone and confused and vicktor calls ben at the phone booth leading me to 100% believe they have split up again and have to find each other. very nostalgic of season 1 and 2

"there's something happening to you and it's only gonna get worse" so this is either about just ben OR its about all of them. either way ben did look confused so his eldritch horrors are either hulking out or he's losing memory chunks like my theory suggests. but it might revolve around ben bc vicktor specifically says "you" in the next time about the world ending.

Gene and Jean are possibly conspiracy theorists or agents posing as them but its interesting they are bringing attention to the altered timelines.

I'm pretty indifferent towards most of the ships too and i sometimes scroll through the tag to read theories for the new season, and I've been seeing some ongoing discourse about the fate of Gina and EJ's relationship in season 3, especially centring around EJ's future and college. Everything you've been saying in response to your asks today I completely agree with.

I understand that as viewers, we can never fully predict what the writers intend to do but at the same time i feel like there are plotlines that will definitely come up such as EJ's future and what his next step is. It's inevitable that the conversation will be had this season and regardless of what EJ said last season (where like you said, college was far enough in the future for it to be pushed to the back of his mind and not be a such an immediate dilemma) it will definitely have some bearing on the fate of portwells relationship.

That doesn't necessarily have to be in a negative way- like you said it could end up strengthening their relationship, but at the same.... I don't know, I'd say its very rare that college conversations bode well for ships in tv, especially when you throw the fact that one person isn't actually graduating.

I'll say it again, no one can say with a 100% certainty that they know what's going happen next season with any of the pairings, but at the same time i feel like it'd do everyone some good to go into this season with a very open mind, and take everything that happened in s2 with a grain of salt. Personally i have my own ideas about what the writers might be planning to do next season with all the pairings (yes even the one that I won't name bc this will probably be tagged w portwell and I don't want to upset anyone). And I think the best way to summarise why i think that's what will happen is with a quote-

"Well have you talked about it since then?"

I feel like this quote and some others are acting as a door stop for this ship, and that its likely that their romantic storyline won't ever fully be done until a LOT of things are addressed...

i agree that college is going to pose an issue. it doesn't have to cause them any actual fallout, but it's not so easy as him not being put off asking her out by the fact he's graduating. because it wasn't really relevant at the time. when ej turned down duke, that was a partial decision. we don't know what he's doing for school yet, and he might not know either. that's less realistic in a logistical sense of how a four year school works in the us, but for all we know he might go to community college in the fall. in all reality- if he's going to the safety school he mentioned in 1.04, he'd have already determined that before summer started. but realism isn't all that important here- so we'll see.

i say realism isn't super important, and i think that's a good thing for us to consider, particularly given ej's college trajectory. in real life- i would say ej and gina have a pretty long road ahead of them if they want to date through college, for several reasons. i've spoken logistically in a lot of these asks, because it's how my brain works, but i'll offer this alternative here. they don't have to cut their losses like ricky and nini did in 2.08, because that is what they did. they didn't end it because they couldn't try to fix it, but because they were scared it could get worse, and what their friendship means to them was more worth saving.

ej and gina have to have conflict this season, and that's a fact. good television is not made through things being easy. but you know what is a good story? people deciding it's worth fighting for something you care about. this is a show where love is important, in every sense of the word, and following your heart is something that's shown to be a positive decision. ej and gina are both very headstrong. gina in particular just keeps pushing. it all depends on whether they want her pushing to be part of her growth or not. i'm still not sure if her "just keep pushing" mentality is going to be something she's supposed to evolve past or not... but for now i'll say it's not, for the sake of my sanity. being ambitious is not a bad thing disney, i promise!

gina will want to fight for their relationship. i think ej will too, but we've also seen that ej is the type to self-sabotage. and gina with her history of moving and cutting people off is probably going to see the negatives faster than he is. so we'll just have to see how it goes. there are signs that indicate multiple possibilities. i wouldn't be surprised if ej or gina tries to call it off, but then the other comes back like actually no, i really like what we have here and i think it's worth fighting for, and they make up and things are good heading into season 4.

let's go on now to think about the way this typically goes in media, because you're right, college conversations rarely bode well for relationships, especially when it comes to one person not graduating. this is absolutely true in a lot of the more "teen drama" type television.

but you know who the college thing does work out for? troy and gabriella. (obviously we don't know how their relationship worked out down the line but- from the movies). the reason it works out? proximity. and who do we know that cares about proximity? miss gina porter. between tim wanting to keep matt around and the fact ej's not clear on what he's got going for next year, a state school being the only thing we know he got into, if ej's going to college, it's almost certainly going to be nearby.

i know i used troyella for an example, but in general with disney and that sort of stuff, with an "endgame" type couple, if they go to college with or near one another, it's pretty set. idk how many people have seen phineas and ferb's act your age special, but isabella and phineas wind up going to college together too. (neither of the couples i mention are examples that apply to portwell the exact same way, and i'm cognizant of this, but i wanted to pull examples of the college talk thing working out for couples)

i love your comment about keeping an open mind, because after all, as is our new tagline, "love is an open door"... which- pardon the fact i'm using some door metaphors below this paragraph, since i actually wrote this one /after/, so that's fully an accident, but it's still fun. i don't think we can or should take season 2 with a grain of salt, because everything is a progression, but i get what you're saying. when you look through a microscope, sometimes you miss the bigger picture. and there's a lot that could go down in the upcoming season(s). we just have to wait and see. this show isn't (i'd hope) going to play the revolving door of couples like glee did, because that's just unnecessary, but if this is acting like a teen drama, i think having one example of the couple swap (of sorts, given ricky and gina were never a couple), is only the beginning of the couple drama.

i think the "have you talked about it since" aspect keeps the door from completely closing as of now. it doesn't have to stay open, or be reopened, but it's a very smart thing for the show to do, in case they ever wanted to revisit a romantic connection between ricky and gina. it doesn't require them to do something with it- and i do want to note that, but it's a really small detail that prevents things from being locked off. it's smart- because it keeps it as an option.

this show doesn't lock too many doors, because for the sake of longevity, it makes sense to keep things more open. it's like with kickin' it- kim leaving and jack still dating her works, because the ship is one of the lower priority aspects of the show. hsmtmts is different, the ships and ship drama are pretty high priority on what carries the main plot arcs, and the musical sits on like- the b-plot level. they want to have more options, not less.

do i think they can be done without this getting entirely dealt with- in theory. i don't think they have a lot to talk about, but i think they do have to rebuild a friendship between them, and i think there are certain things that likely should get addressed in that process. i think ricky has less obligation to gina than people try to say at times, but he did hurt her, so there are things that have to be restructured to allow things to continue on decently. it's like- the three don't have to be best friends or anything, but they are going to want to establish a better friendship among them as the core characters. particularly since ricky's main tie to theatre is heading out the door... it's just a consideration.
