Is it weird that I take a kind of perverse delight in discourse that can’t stop criticizing Solas and, in particular, the Solas/Lavellan romance world state?
There are plenty of players who reject 'Solavellan' for their own reasons, many of which I understand completely - and most just go on their merry way, playing the game their way and not giving a second thought to it. But others... can’t seem to let it go. Despite claiming to have no interest in the story or proclaim a deep dislike for it, they remain preoccupied by it. And honestly? I love that.
Solas and Lavellan living rent-free in people’s minds is proof to me the writers have hit some kind of nerve. And isn’t that what we want from stories? To feel? Whether it’s good or bad or disgusted or elated?
One of my absolute favorite fandom phenomena is the emphatic declaration: “Not my world state.” A sacred incantation. A verbal sage-smudge meant to ward off emotional investment in a narrative one claims to disdain. In the case of Dragon Age - it’s often a Solas and a romanced Lavellan.
And yet…still the critical posts come. Still reblogging. Still writing 3,000-word critiques about a character some allegedly don’t think about or a pairing that people find...problematic. Fascinating. Because if it truly wasn’t their world state, why not just ignore it? I can so easily ignore any world state that I don’t resonate with. I also can easily read great meta, enthusiasm and critiques on various world states that I don’t subscribe to but can appreciate and learn something new all the time.
I genuinely believe in everyone finding joy in the game they play. Sincerely. There’s more than enough pain in the real world - we all deserve our escapes. So play your way. Love what you love. Let the rest fall into the Fade. (I appreciate those who do post very respectful discourse and criticisms without resorting to insults.)
But yet
…yet
... some linger. Some rage. Some cry “cringey romance trope” and some cry “horrible misrepresentation” with the same intensity Solas cries “vhenan” during post-Veilguard sex with Lavellan. And that’s okay. Because, to me, it means they felt something.
If people are still talking about it - still critical of it, still dissecting - the story got under the skin. It touched something raw. It stirred something. Maybe it unsettled a sense of what a “good” fictional romance looks like or what forgiveness looks like. Maybe it made someone feel uncomfortable. Maybe some resent how powerfully others have connected to it. Who knows!?
But stories - especially emotionally and controversially charged ones like Solas and Lavellan - rarely seem to leave people untouched. They provoke. They unsettle. They inspire.
The writers should feel flattered. It means the story had teeth. It left a mark. Some connect with it and lean in. Others don’t and abhor it. But either way, they still let themselves be tethered to it. The effort poured into disliking Solas and Lavellan I see at times only confirms how potent the story really is. Why spend so much time dissecting something that didn’t affect you?
One of the biggest misconceptions about the Solas and Lavellan story is that it excuses Solas (ok, maybe some fans do). But what makes the story so compelling to me is what’s found in the contradictions. It doesn’t ignore Solas’s flaws - it stares them down. Because stories of love can exist in tension with truth. And they can be messy as hell.
I like the tension. I like that Solas is morally grey, sometimes cruel, sometimes tender. I like reconciling that contradiction - not to absolve him, but to explore what love looks like when it exists alongside pain, grief and betrayal. I don’t need him to be perfect to find his story compelling. And I don’t need Lavellan’s love to be easy or pure to see its value or symbolism.
And it doesn’t threaten me that he’s flawed or that their love story is flawed. I’m comfortable holding both truths at once: that he’s done harm, and that he’s capable of love. That’s where the story lives for me. Lavellan’s response to him is also complicated and her own imperfection doesn’t diminish the story (and it is just a story after all).
This is not fandom criticism believe it or not (well, maybe? But like, with affection). Like I said, I delight in it. If anything, it just deepens my love for Solas’s story and for Inquisitor Lavellan’s - and their journey together. It challenges me to dig deeper into understanding what resonates with me.
There is a little secret voice in my head that thinks, if people who dislike it so much are still talking about it, still trying to tear it down - then maybe they are living in the same world state as me after all.
And I do so enjoy the company.
#dragon age#da fandom critical#fandom critical#but not really cause it's something I enjoy#solavellan#people feel passionately about them#either positive or negative#not my world state syndrome#'The lady doth protest too much methinks'#solavellan critical#to some for sure#also solavellan positive#is it weird to love the criticism?#I don't know what tags to use#I'm sure someone will educate me lol#ok and yes some Solas lovers maybe look too soft on him#and all people should spend less time on what they hate#more time on what they love#this goes to solavellans too#just focus on the joy the story brings you

so what do we expect to find here? (for hawke, or könig. your choice!)
König has never truly known safety. Not when his own family treated him like a punching bag - he was the first son. He was supposed to be a commanding presence, good-looking, a good thing to bargain with and marry off. A man that could eventually lead an army. A man that people could trust.
Instead, he stuttered, he looked gangly in his youth, and his preference for men was simply a problem his father was not willing to contend with - not so much that he cared about his son's preference, but the fact that it interfered with his on vie for power.
He had had enough - even König had his limits - so he left, showing up at Mr. Arkwright's door. König is a man of many talents despite his own anxieties and self-esteem issues. Perhaps, here, he can seek out some sort of refuge while he figures out what to do about his father. Perhaps, here, he can be of some use.
"I know it's late but I didn't know where else to go." His eyes cannot meet the lich's - not out of fear, but out of shame. "I understand that you have use for private information about men like my father. Or perhaps that is a misconception, but I am capa-- capa---" He pauses, nose wrinkling before shifting his stance. "I'm able to do other things, too. Please."

How To Know If Your Volvo XC90 Gas Cap is Leaking? Top 5 Signs from Certified Experts in Birmingham

You shouldn’t be surprised if you are seeing an increase in the number of luxury SUVs on the road because nowadays, millennials are finding it convenient to own these big cars as they are coming equipped with all the latest features besides packing a powerful punch in whatever terrain you drive.
Among the various luxury SUV manufacturers, few have managed to give tough competition to the big three in the industry that is Mercedes Benz, BMW and Audi. Volvo for the past few years is aggressively pursuing the SUV segment with some distinct car launches.
One such popular car from Volvo is the Volvo XC90 which is known for its powerful engine & features. However, owning a Volvo XC90 also comes with its own set of challenges like regular service and maintenance. Despite your best efforts issues might crop up anytime.
One common problem reported by most XC90 drivers is related to the malfunctioning of the gas cap. Leaks from the gas cap of your Volvo XC90 can be caused due to various factors. Here in this article, we will discuss the top 5 signs of a gas cap leak compiled by certified technicians in Birmingham.
Smell of Fuel
One of the prominent symptoms of a leaking gas cap is when you get to experience the smell of fuel inside the cabin of your vehicle while driving. Gasoline has a very strong odor and whenever it leaks you will come to know about it. Most of the time you will smell the gasoline leakage while driving and not when your car is stationary.
The gas tank of your car is very robust though the chances of it developing a leak cannot be ruled out but most gasoline leakages have been traced to a faulty fuel cap in vehicles. With years of usage, the fuel cap might have lost its thread which is causing it to leak.
Moreover, driving with a leaking gas cap is a very dangerous thing to do and you must immediately stop your vehicle & contact a tow service to take your car to a certified repair shop where the damaged gas cap can be replaced.
Deteriorating Fuel Economy
Another important sign that most people miss whenever there is a malfunctioning gas cap is a drop in the fuel economy of their vehicle. This is because most people driving a luxury SUV think that these vehicles require more fuel and it is futile to keep a track of the fuel economy of the car.
This is a serious misconception that you are harboring. It is true that luxury SUVs might have low fuel efficiency in comparison to other segments of cars. However, keeping a tab on the fuel economy of your SUV will help you in determining if there is something wrong with your car.
Your Volvo XC90 will show constant miles per gallon with little discrepancies depending on your driving. Whenever you see a sudden drop in the fuel economy of your car, then you can be sure that there is a leak somewhere in the vehicle.
Coloration around Gas Tank
Drivers often fail to observe a prominent sign of a leaking gas cap in their vehicle. If you observe any discoloration around the gas tank that is not matching with the color of your vehicle, then you can be sure that your gas cap has failed.
As the gas cap has malfunctioned it is unable to seal the fuel fumes escaping from the car and this leads to discoloration around the opening of the gas tank. The fumes will degrade the color of the car around the gas tank.
Loose Gas Cap
A loose gas cap is definitely a sign of a failing gas cap. The gas cap is supposed to tighten around the gas tank and prevent the fuel vapors and the gasoline from leaking out. While filling up your tank if you find that the gas cap is not tightening properly around the tank, then it is time to replace the gas cap of your car.
Illumination of Check Engine Light
The check engine light located on the dashboard of your vehicle illuminates whenever there is something wrong with your car. If the gas cap is faulty, then the check engine light is going to flash on the dashboard. However, the problem with the check engine light is that it flashes whenever there is an issue.
You should take your car to an experienced repair shop where the technician will use a code reader to determine the real reason behind the illumination of the check engine light.
Finally
The above-discussed factors are some of the signs associated with a faulty gas cap in your Volvo XC90. Most of the time, the gas cap escapes our notice and any fault with the part often becomes difficult to detect. Proper maintenance and service can save your Volvo from the consequences of a failing gas cap.

A Simple Guide on Aftermarket Auto Body Parts
Aftermarket auto body parts make up a big part of the automotive industry. This sector brings in about 20% of the revenue of the automotive industry. Whenever you replace or modify your car, the parts used come from three main categories: OEM, Aftermarket and Salvaged. You already know the general definition of these is.
OEM is the exact part of your car that you are replacing, Aftermarket being an off-brand version of the part and salvaged are parts that have been recycled, that is, the parts were used in another car.
Aftermarket body parts are also known as non-OEM body parts or generic parts or competitive replacement parts.
One of the misconception and fear among new car owners is that Aftermarket auto body parts may be of lower quality. You should know that is not the case at all. Sometimes, these car parts may even be better than OEMs because it may include technology that is not present in the current version of the OEM.
These are often times the cheapest auto parts available even though the quality and look are both the same as OEM. The reason for this discounted price on auto parts is because they are off-brand products.
There are a few reasons you should consider buying aftermarket auto parts:
They are usually cheaper than OEM parts.
There are lots of aftermarket brands producing the same body parts which mean they are more readily available.
Aftermarket auto body parts usually come with great warranties.
You will need car parts replacement at one point in time if you own a car. Knowing which type of part is going into your car is essential as an owner. There are states where insurance companies can choose your parts for you and there are states where you need to be notified or approve of the parts.
Make sure you are getting what you need and desire for your car as this equates to your safety and satisfaction. If you are uncertain about aftermarket car parts, then check if the part comes with a certificate or not.
Often times you will see that aftermarket parts come with CAPA and NSF International certificates. These certificates are reliable and have been used as a reference because of their reliability. It is pretty normal to use aftermarket auto body parts for your car. Sometimes they are actually a better option in terms of affordability.
Now that you know what aftermarket car parts and its advantages are, you want to know where you can find them right? Well, the answer is obviously the Internet. Just one search query writing car parts store near me, and you will have all the information you need. There are plenty of great aftermarket shops you can find online, shops like PartsCargo. These stores offer you the cheapest rate and great discounts on aftermarket auto parts with the ease of buying them from your PC or Phone.
Whether you are buying the car parts online or from a brick and mortar store make sure you do enough research on what your car needs and what are the best aftermarket brands for your particular part.
Remember that if you don’t know what’s going on with your car, then it is always better to ask for a professional. So call your repair shop ASAP if something like this happens.

Why B&W is Still the Favorite of Street Photographers http://ift.tt/2t5VrXq
Black-and-white still remains the photographer’s favorite for street photographers, and with very good reason. Where in other genres monochrome has become a niche look, street photography is different. Why does B&W remain the favorite choice of street photographers, and are there logical reasons to go for it?
Black-and-white was naturally the first choice for photographers of old due to technical restrictions. Film wasn’t able to showcase color, and it took a long time until more and more street photographers explored new opportunities for color work. Nonetheless, it seems most modern street photography photos are still in B&W.
Modern technology is now more than able to capture colors of the real world. If necessary, editing makes it possible to change the look of colors in any direction you can imagine. And additional complexity like white balance becomes easier to deal with thanks to digital cameras offering RAW files that give photographers more flexibility to adjust the look afterward.
But the following are some of the possible reasons why B&W is still popular among street shooters.
Emulating the Masters
Documentary photography is one of the oldest genres, and a lot of street photographers try to replicate the look of classic photographers like Robert Capa or Henri-Cartier Bresson. Even until the late 70s, most icons didn’t make the transition but continued to shoot in B&W. Exceptions such as Joel Meyerowitz or Saul Leiter were pioneers with their beautiful color work, but they also had to fight a lot of criticism.
For interested photographers in the modern age looking to make their way into street photography, it is much more likely to discover the work of Vivian Maier, Robert Capa, or Bruce Gilden, who almost exclusively shot in B&W. Quite interestingly, Vivian Maier also had a collection of color images that have mostly remained unpopular.
For landscape or portrait photographers, there are icons like Sebastiao Salgado or Helmut Newton who put out impressive black and white images. But looking back, the past decades have been dominated by color work.
In contrast, street photographers never quite made the full transition and therefore beginners are more likely to try their luck with monochrome images first, following their idols.
Focusing on the Subject
There are also a few characteristics that make black and white advantageous in comparison to color.
Street photography is one of the hardest and most fast-paced genres, leaving little to no time for the composition. While studio photographers can often take all the time they want to create their image very carefully, street photographers have to react on the street very quickly.
This can be very difficult, and the composition doesn’t always come out like the street photographer had envision. Often, you observe a nice scene that really catches your interest, but you also face the problem of distracting objects in the background. Especially colorful objects can distract the viewer and sidetrack the attention.
To restore the original focus of the image, it can be helpful to display the picture in B&W. This way, the content becomes king and the look becomes less important. Since street photography often tries to show a story or the interaction of people, B&W can help to emphasize the content, by fading out distracting colors.
Dramatic Light
While beauty itself often isn’t the sole subject, the contrast of light and darkness is a frequently used subject. A lot of street photographs revolve around subjects being in the spotlight while a lot of the scene is hidden in the dark.
Often times it is more interesting for the viewer when not everything is revealed, but there is still room for imagination. This kind of image works very well in B&W. Increasing the contrast also adds to this effect. Colors often would be too distracting and take away from the mysterious atmosphere.
In the same vein, silhouette images work very well as monochrome versions. The picture becomes very minimalistic, but when done right can encourage the viewer’s imagination.
The Film Look
When I started my journey into photography, I didn’t want to invest too much money in a camera. A consequence was that ISO noise became very apparent, especially in low light situations. In color work, this can become very distracting and lowers the overall quality of the image. For B&W, some noise can actually work very well, because it resembles the old analog look. You don’t need a Fujifilm X100F to begin with. A Ricoh GR works wonders, even in low light situations when embracing the film look.
The $1,300 Fujifilm X100F (left) and the $659 Ricoh GR II (right).
Later on for me, the noise wasn’t an annoyance anymore but instead became an aesthetic choice. It is a lot easier to emulate old pushed Tri-X film than the ever popular Kodachrome. Color has to factor in a lot more variables which make it near impossible to emulate them perfectly.
This led to the development of free film presets like the Silver Efex package. So for the classic film look, monochrome has a lot more to offer and is much easier to replicate, than his colorful alternative.
Colors Have To Match
Just as light and darkness can become subjects on their own, colors play an important part in color images. Whenever the photographer decides to stay away from monochrome versions, the colors shouldn’t just be there randomly. In a way, they should make sense and really add something to the scene as if the photographer painted the scene himself. Otherwise, why should you include them?
Therefore, I feel that colors should match in some way. This could be that one color is very present in the image, or that different colors create either a very harmonic picture or tension. But including color just for the sake of not doing B&W doesn’t work most of the time. Color is too complicated, especially in uncontrollable situations like street photography.
Because of that, B&W is often the “easier” choice by reducing the complexity and difficulty of an image.
Is Black and White Easy?
One often misused misconception is converting a bad colorful picture into monochrome and hoping that it turns out better. I agree that B&W makes it easier to conceal mistakes, but a bad photo stays bad and doesn’t profit from monochrome. A picture that doesn’t work in color, because it lacks the depth of story or is badly framed, won’t be better in B&W.
In general, I’d advise you to think about which style you chose before you go out and shoot. Both variations are unique and aren’t interchangeable with a simple click in the post production. You have to observe the world very differently. With B&W, you will focus more on the light and shadows, while color requires you to have a look at every possible combination of annoying colors that could break your image.
Nonetheless, there is a huge amount of B&W released on the Internet very day. Standing out from the masses is very difficult when you can only show distinctions of gray. It is easy to get lost in the mass of mediocre monochrome images. Therefore, you have to develop a unique picture style that is distinctive from the rest.
Either way, try sticking with a style for more than only a few images and not switching back and forth. B&W might be a classic that will never run out of fashion, but with color street photography you could set the next highlight in your unique style.

Our Favorite Alums!!
Your Monday afternoon shift has gone through the lists of alums and chosen some people we find pretty remarkable! So here they are:
River ‘20: I found Tom Sachs (’89) partway through my time at Bennington. His work is all about taking modern icons and recreating them for his own purposes. He has a series of speakers made of porcelain that inspired some of my own clay/sound mashups. Sometimes it’s easy to read that someone went to Bennington and it’s pretty cool, but when you talk to faculty who have actually worked with them and continue to talk to these artists, it really hits home. Here’s a little excerpt form his artist statement: “All the steps that led up to the end result are always on display. On a practical level, this means that all seams, joints, screws or for that matter anything holding stuff together, like foamcore and plywood, are left exposed. Nothing is erased, sanded away, or rendered invisible. On a more philosophical level, this means that nothing Sachs makes is ever finished. Like any good engineering project, everything can always be stripped down, stripped out, redesigned and improved.”
https://youtu.be/49p1JVLHUos

Elizabeth ‘20: Michael Pollan '77 is one of my favorite alums. He's an author, journalist, and activist who has written extensively about food, cooking, and agribusiness. His most recent book, How to Change Your Mind, explores the history and future of mind-altering drugs, drawing from his own experiences. It attempts to demystify misconceptions about psychedelics, demonstrating the ways in which they can be used to treat depression, addiction, and terminal illnesses. I think this is a fascinating, under-explored area of research! Watch him talk to Stephen Colbert here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzgtJleG3r8

Majo ‘20: I found Jess Kutch in the CAPA website under notable alums and have found her work very interesting and inspiring. She worked with change.org and now has cofounded coworker.org a platform for workers of different corporations to communicate and organize to make working situations better. Some notable networks they foster are: Publix, Starbucks and Uber!
https://home.coworker.org/

Emma ‘20: Mary Ruefle '74 is an amazing poet and essayist! She has an incredible and innovative command of language. She read from her most recent book My Private Property (2016) at Bennington. Here are some poems! Please Read, Mimosa, I Cannot Be Quiet an Hour. She also lives very closet to the college so is often on campus. You will definitely see her around during your time here.

Absolver full game
Absolver keygen
Slocap is hard at the office on Absolver for a release on Sony's PlayStation 4, so we connected with the group to talk about the game's advancement. Certainly, this implies offering gamers a wide range of clothing options as well as methods to set apart personalities thusly; the other hand is that players will have to thoroughly consider the residential properties of each tool. Much more defensive equipment is typically larger and also will reduce gamers extra, while lighter equipment could not blunt the impact of a blow to the same degree. Have a look at the full video below for a look at production, lore, and also armor done in one area.
