Canadian Citizenship Test: The Canadian Citizenship Test is a test administered by the IRCC. The test is required for all applicants for Canadian citizenship who are aged between 18 and 54.

The test is available in both French and English. The test is usually written, but in some cases it might be oral. The test lasts for 30 minutes. It contains 20 true or false or multiple choice questions.

Applicants must answer at least 15 questions correctly to pass.While taking the test applicants must be in Canada .

Eligibility for Canadian Citizenship Test:

It is mandatory to take the citizenship test if an applicant is of 18 years and above, otherwise in case the applicant is below 18 years then the applicant’s guardians or parents will have to apply.

The applicant will have to prove that he/she knows how to speak and write in English or French.The applicant should be a permanent resident of Canada. These are some of the basic requirements for the eligibility for Canadian Citizenship.

However, if an applicant has served the Canadian Armed Forces then in that case the applicant is eligible for a fast-track application process. Candidates are advised to go through the detailed eligibility criteria for Canadian citizenship as laid out by the IRCC official website.

It gauges applicants’ knowledge and understanding of United States history, government, and the legal system.

Content of the test:

The test asks questions relating to the following subject matters:

Study for the test:

The rights and responsibilities of Citizenship, to study for tests. The official study guide is always free. The guide is available in multiple formats. You can choose to read it online,listen to the MP3 version,download the PDF or eBook and order a paper copy of the study guide.

Get your test and interview date:

You may be invited to take the citizenship test within weeks after they send you the acknowledgement of receipt. About 1 to 2 weeks before the test, they will send you a notice.Get a new date, if you’re not available on the day of your appointment, send a message to them and Explain Why.

If you don’t give or your explanation isn’t reasonable, they may stop processing your application and not grant you citizenship. You can either:- email or write to the local office or use the online web form.

They will schedule your appointment on a different date.Only the person taking the test can be in the testing room.If you have a child, plan to have someone care for them while you give your test.

If you can’t arrange, reschedule your test date. Your child can wait in the area outside the testing room,if you bring a child with you but must be with a caregiver at all times.

What to bring?

When you come for your test, bring the notice asking you to take the test, 2 pieces of personal identification (ID), 1 piece of ID with your photograph and signature, foreign ID documents must be gov-issued, Provide a translation with an affidavit from the translator if not in English or French, all your passports and travel documents, a certificate, diploma, degree or transcript that prove your English or french language skills.

Taking the test:

The test is in English or French.Going to be 30 minutes long.Going to ask you 20 questions and multiple-choice and true or false questions are also there. 15 correct answers are required to pass the test.

What happens if you don’t clear your first test?

If you don’t pass your written test, but meet the other requirements, they will schedule you for a second test. Second test usually takes place 4 to 8 weeks.

A notice will be sent to you If you don’t pass your second test. The hearing will last 30 to 90 minutes,may be in person or by video conference, assess one or more requirements for citizenship,they will refuse your application, If you don’t pass the test after 3 tries.

You can re-apply to try again.They process all applications together, when you apply with your family. If you have to re-write the test or hearing, your family may be invited before you.

If you want them to continue processing, ask them to pause your family’s applications. They will wait until you meet all the requirements.

Canadian Citizenship

If you want to apply for Canadian citizenship, you may apply for a citizenship grant. To apply for Canadian citizenship you must be a permanent resident of Canada and meet other citizenship requirements as well, besides citizenship residency requirements. Some points to consider while applying are:

You must be 18 years or older.

You must have been physically present in Canada for at least 1095 days and meet all the citizenship requirements.

You must have filed income taxes.

Not prohibited under sections 21 or 22.

You must be able to communicate in English/French.

You must have knowledge of the Canadian responsibilities.

Ineligibility for Citizenship:

You have a criminal record.

You are under criminal convictions outside Canada.

You have been issued a deportation/removal order.

Your Canadian citizenship has been revoked.

You don’t meet the terms and conditions required for citizenship .

How to apply for Citizenship:

After checking your eligibility, you can apply.

Citizenship Application Package:

You are an adult (18 years or above),you are a parent applying for a child,you are a minor below 18 years,you are a stateless person,you have been adopted by a Canadian citizen.The application package consists of an instruction guide and document checklist. If you are applying for more than one person you may send the applications together .

Citizenship Application Fees:

fee has to be paid in Canadian dollars. It is non-refundable. You may use one payment receipt while sending family applications together.

Submit your Citizenship Application:

You will be required to submit your application to Case Processing Center-Sydney once you have filled out your application correctly and paid all applicable fees .Your application will be sent back to you if it is incomplete.

Knowledge Testing for Citizenship:

You will be required to take a few tests once your application has been processed by the CPC-S. All adults will be assessed on their knowledge of Canada.

The citizenship test will be either written, multiple choices, or oral. If the applicant achieves passing marks (75 %) he/she will be deemed eligible for a citizenship grant.

If the applicant is 55 years or older he/she will not be required to take the knowledge test. After the clearance of the test the applicant will be called for an interview.

The services can vary from language skills development in both official languages, to employment opportunities.

The four areas of focus are: Information and Orientation, language training and skills development, labour market access,welcoming communities.

IRCC also funds the Refugee Resettlement Assistance Programs upon arrival in Canada, and eventually, locating a permanent place to live, supporting the ability to purchase daily basic needs.The Government of Canada welcomed 25,000 Syrian Refugees by the end of February 2016 and opened doors to this specific group of refugees.

The refugees came in three different refugee immigration schemes: Privately Sponsored Refugees that were financially supported by private citizens,Government Assisted Refugees, who were funded by IRCC through the Refugee RAP and Blended Visa Office-Referred Refugees.

Pass the CELPIP English Test, get your Canadian Citizenship

The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program or CELPIP is an English language proficiency test for Canadian immigration. The test has the same pattern as IELTS. Just like IELTS, CELPIP also tests four abilities to listen, reading, writing, and speaking of an individual. CELPIP is regulated by the Paragon Testing Enterprises which is a subdivision of the University of British Columbia (UBC). Paragon is the only company delivering the immigration, refugees and citizenship Canada (IRCC) designated English proficiency test. CELPIP must be taken by the people who are looking for Canadian. The test has four parts, including a written exam on language use and skills. The CELPIP is the only Canadian English language proficiency test recognized by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residency and citizenship. The CELPIP General and LS tests are fully computer-delivered, with the Listening section taking about 3 hours.
