THE BEST AND WORSE & I AIN'T WATCHING THAT by Country (CHINA&TAIWAN)
Disclaimer: Taiwan did not release very many BL's this year so let's get to it.
Top 6
6. STAY WITH ME: I didn't expect much from this Chinese series. Said to be a Bromance Version of ADDICTED HEROIN it tells the story of new stepbrothers Su Yu & Wu Bi, they meet in school and have a contentious relationship but soon they are closer than brothers. This Series is a BL disguised as a Bromance. I can look at then as Bai Luo Yin and Gu Hai however this series is better than I expected and has announced it's second season.
5. VIP ONLY: this series is still airing and I like it but I don't love it. The seme is hot af but the uke seems too childlike at times. Gu Jing is a talented chef and Liu Li is writer...a gay themed writer.
4. HIStory 5: Love in the Future: this series from the HIStory Franchise premiered in 2022 on this day December 28. However the bulk of it's episodes aired in early 2023. It contained 2 couples. I liked both but I liked the main couple most. I didn't love the premise exactly but it was middle of the road for me. Hence 4 out of 6
3. STAY BY MY SIDE: I adored this story or better yet the handsome straight laced college student with the gloom and doom face until he meets quirky university student Bu Xia. Jiang Chi created a relationship in his mind and was completely into Bu Xia even though the closeness Bu Xia wanted from Jiang Chi was self serving and in no way romantic but Jiang Chi fell and fell hard. Bu Xia's mere presence brought a smile to Jiang Chi.
2. YOU ARE MINE: this series was excellent and I adored it. The story of a president of a corporation falls for cute quirky secretary who happens to be man.
AND NUMBER 1...thereby the winner is....
1. KISEKI: DEAR TO ME: this series was a hit for me. With two couples it truly delivered a captivating story. It brought many a Taiwan BL Guest Roster including Wayne Song, Huang Chun Chih, An Jun Peng, Aaron Lai, Hank Wang, Wilson Liu, Chi Cheng Xuan and Max Lin.
And both couples were excellent but most especially the side couple but both delivered.
Anti Reset originally scheduled for this year by Vidol (along side Stay By My Side, You Are Mine and VIP ONLY) will air February 2024

Jadeite Cabbage with Insects - a piece of jadeite carved to look like a bokchoy with a locust and a katydid hidden amongst its leaves. Originally a gift to the consort of the Qing Emperor, Zaitian in 1889, it is housed in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, Taiwan.

Why are the DPRK and China the only countries not allowed to end their civil wars... Nearly every other country was essentially born out of a civil war, nobody called the US warmongers for defeating the confederacy, or said that Spain should've remained fractured between the different civil war factions, it's completely normal and expected to reunify as one country after a civil war! this has happened throughout history!
It's not like the ROK or the ROC even claim to be independent nations, they both view all of Korea and China(respectively) as their territory, just like the DPRK and PRC, so why is it suddenly a problem that these factions want to end their civil wars and reunify their peoples? And let's be real none of these people treat the ROC or ROK as warmongers or threats to their counterparts, there's clear bias here.

Revenged Love has quite the convoluted set up for a fakedating-esq series which isn't really captured in the synopsis so let me tell you what we have going on here.
Chi Cheng is a cold rich boy who is obsessed with snakes. He collects them, fights them, and always carries one around with him on his arm. He's a certified freak (affectionate) and a deeply disturbed individual but he has fun with it.
Wu Suowei is a lower middle class dude just trying to get by. He makes a bunch of changes in his life after being dumped by his girlfriend in an attempt to win her back despite the fact that she absolutely sucks. Her name is Yue Yue. He and Chi Cheng have had multiple run in's - all with negative results for poor Wu Suowei.
The three of them come together because Yue Yue is a self-centered gold digger who wants the richest man she can get so she decides to set her eyes on Chi Cheng. Chi Cheng could not care less about her but his father kidnapped his snakes and won't give them back until he gets a girlfriend so he decides to play along to get custody of his snakies. And Wu Suowei still wants Yue Yue and thinks he can get her back and/or get revenge by flirting with Chi Cheng (it doesn't have to make sense. He's pretty. He's not bright.)
There's some strange crime elements thrown in, a hot gay doctor, rival families, underground snake fighting rings, and some guy who absolutely loved hitting people in the head but who is now paralyzed.
Anyways this seems like it will be a strange and interesting ride so feel free to come along.
Watch out tho- major trigger warning for implied sexual assault

Jesus man, relax.
#this was in response to me saying “lunar new year” on the rarity art#personal#delete later#what in insane nonproblem to get this angry about#i asked my parents (taiwanese immigrants) about this and they said we use either but prefer lunar new year#because it's inclusive to koreans and vietnamese people who celebrate on the same day#lunar new year is an umbrella term same as “happy holidays.” this person is basically getting mad i said happy holidays instead of#merry christmas.#my family and i identify more as taiwanese than chinese so. we're not gonna say chinese new year much anyways#i sent this to my mom btw and she replied with basically “die mad i guess.” love you ma#this literally doesn't matter anyways i could have said “chinese new year” to caption that post and it wouldn't have mattered#the only reason i didn't is because i plan on drawing another art including carol (coco pommel) who's korean and celebrates the same day#like. most people in china/taiwan don't care they just say “happy new year” cuz it's the fuckin new year. someone saying lunar new year is#not erasure it's not flattening asian identities into a monolith. it's just an umbrella term.#anyways happy lunar new year happy chinese new year happy tet happy spring festival happy seollal#like i cannot stress enough to you guys that these holidays are on the exact same day and celebrate basically the same exact thing.#this is not an issue.

Cut porcelain carving 剪瓷雕 is prevalent in the Hokkien architecture of Fujian and Taiwan, and to a lesser extent Vietnamese architecture.
Traditionally, Hokkien porcelain artists would gather small colored porcelain artifacts (such as bowls and other utensils), cut and/or grind them into smaller fragments, and then paste these fragments onto sculptures attached to buildings for the purpose of decoration. The topic of these sculptures may vary - ranging from plants and animals to figures from Chinese mythology or Hokkien folktales

"Peach Boy 2" (1989), also called Magic of Steel, was one of the most wildly successful movies in the late 80s trend in Taiwan and Hong Kong of fantasy movies aimed at children (which also included entries like "Ginseng Boy" and "Magic Crystal").
Peach Boy, a magic child born in a peach who is one part Peter Pan, another part Bart Simpson, a third part Samurai, and a fourth part Superman, discovers a sorcerer is killing a thousand kids to keep his body from decaying, and has to stop him.
Peach Boy was, like Bart Simpson, played by an adult woman who sounded and looked like a boy.
Peach Boy was a huge phenomenon, despite the weirdness and low budget of the whole thing. Many very young Chinese kids remember being shocked when they found out their hero Peach Boy was actually....played by a girl! Hsiao Lao Lin.
Also known as "Magic of Steel," it is one of the few films to have a typo in the opening title.

I've debated for a couple of days about whether to say something because I don't want to be overly political on here, a place where I can just enjoy the things I love. However, I feel like this is a topic on which I have a pretty personal view on, so here I am.
A disclaimer, I want to make clear that I am not pointing fingers or anything. I just want to put my thoughts out there so people can perhaps see a different perspective. English is not my native language (obviously). I tried to make myself clear and be courteous, but sometimes my language skill fails me, so please be gentle and know I do not wish to offend anyone.
It's about people flocking to red note as a reaction toward the tiktok ban. I am happy for people who had their first genuine interaction with people behind the Chinese fire wall, it's always beautiful when people from different culture communicate and learn from each other. Hell that's the reason why I am on this website. But I also can't help feeling sick with concern at how people disregard information warfare and missed the point that the problem has never been the Chinese people but the CCP government.
I am a Taiwanese. If you know anything about Taiwan and China's complicated history, you can probably imagine I have FEELINGS toward China. It's strong, and it's NEGATIVE. (I am not trying to represent all Taiwanese. This is just my own feelings.) I am relatively young, but even in my limited time alive, I've personally witnessed how the Chinese government bullied and oppressed my country. There are active attacks toward us, and it has been for years, just not YET in the traditional military sense. The information warfare is as real as ever and we, in Taiwan, don't have the defense of the language barrier. China spent an unimaginable amount of money every year on information warfare against Taiwan. Spreading misinformation and propaganda, buying out internet accounts and influencers. Planting agents. Anything you can and can't imagine. They are smart and cunning.
There is no such thing as a private company in China. Look up what happened to Ma Yun. If the country wants to, they can take anything from you, even the company you founded. The CCP government can and WILL monitor and control the discussion happening on any social software/application that's run by a Chinese company. They WILL manipulate the algorithm for propaganda. That is not an empty threat. They literally built a firewall around China so Chinese people can't access the internet freely. You treat them with humanity and courtesy doesn't mean that you will get the same treatment from them. CCP does not abide by your law. We all want to live in an idealistic world where people are kind and honesty is the default. I want to live in that world, too. But reality is cruel and playing dirty will get you far ahead of people playing by the rules.
I wish people in the US (and any other country that do not have to worry about being invaded, really) can realize how privilege it is to be a citizen of a wealthy and stable country that never have to worry about losing your identity just because your huge and rich neighbor says you belong to them. How privilege it is to be able to think China is not a threat, the government overreacted. I envy them. I envy their confidence in their country's future, that it won't disappear when they wake up the next day. I envy that they can still count on international society recognizing them as citizens of a independent country without hesitation and reserve.
I will never use TikTok (not even the US version) and RedNote. I will not install anything that I know has any relation to Chinese companies. Because I am worried for myself, for my family, and for my country. It's the least I can do as a defense as a single, insignificant Taiwanese. Seeing people jumping in voluntarily, giving CCP access to your personal information, makes me extremely anxious. I sincerely hope that there won't come a day when this decision backfires.
#feel free to research on your own or DM me if you want to know more about the deal between Taiwan and China#personal
