I really like the random set ups in the manga for Mirai and what she is inspired from.

The clock keepers reminded us of Pinocchio before and now Cinderella, AidaIro took random vibes from European tales and I am all for it.

And Kako, being born from the grief and guilt of the clock maker, creating little things for the replacement of the niece is so cool too.

She had three mices as pets and Kako created three automatons for Mirai. Which ended up being one of the things he retrieves from Nene right away to give them back to Mirai. He is so gentle with her everytime he holds her too. She also gains a little crown showing how much this clock maker ended up loving her as his own daughter. And of course Akane who compared her before to a mouse because he has no respect.

"What happened next, Uncle Henry?"

"Ah, well, it turns out the hostages were locked away somewhere else," Henry was saying to his enraptured audience of one, "as me and your father were discussing what to do next, the enemy spotted us and..." he theatrically mimed firing an arrow from an imaginary bow, "thwap! Fired an arrow right into your father's noble backside!"

Heinrich laughed, shaking his head as he tried to control himself, "he didn't!"

"Aye, it's true," Henry could smile at the memory now. He pointed at his chest, continuing his story, "I had to carry him over my shoulder like a sack of grain!"

The two of them were too busy giggling at Henry's story to notice they were no longer alone. Hans stood in the doorway, watching with a fond expression as he gazed at his unconventional family.

"What are you two laughing about?"

"Nothing," they both said simultaneously, suspiciously glancing at each other whilst making shushing gestures. It didn't take long for Heinrich to excitedly rat Henry out, though.

"Uncle Henry was just telling me about Talmberg, Papa."

Hans raised an eyebrow, glancing at Henry questioningly, "oh, he was, was he?"

"Only how brave and honourable you were, sir," Henry replied innocently. Heinrich nodded, running up to hug his father.

"You were brave, Papa. I would've cried if someone shot me in the butt."

Hans paused ruffling his son's hair to glare at Henry who merely smiled guiltily. Sighing, the nobleman covered his son's ears.

"You're sleeping alone tonight."

"Understood," Henry nodded solemnly. They both knew he was lying anyway.

just saw this one in the main tag and it got me thinking... "wanting to do the right thing but having your actions distort your goals" is obviously about natori, he even reflects upon it directly more than once during the chapters BUT even tho world unbent is from natori's pov, i always thought it wasn't just about him but also about matoba and the exorcist world. for me it was clear that midorikawa wanted to expand upon the exorcists and thought natsume's pov wouldn't have been enough for this case (i also think she always wanted to expand upon natori's and matoba's younger days as well)

so with that in mind i tried thinking if that could apply to matoba too and it might be a stretch but i think it does, but in the sense that "the right thing" for matoba and natori are two different things and matoba might not even think abt doing it along those lines

like, from what we've seen, i interpret that matoba genuinely thinks the matoba clan has a responsibility to protect ppl, regardless if they can see yokai or not and he takes that very seriously, most recent example being what he said abt a previous matoba head being unable to protect the miharu; also to achieve this the clan must be powerful above all others and for that he needs to do anything and if he has a limit we haven't seen it yet. we see that during world unbent ("i won't let us fall"), but most recently during homura arc when he was willing to bet his own life just to be able to control a powerful vessel (being shortsighted enough abt the possibility that natsume had to snap him out of it), he's power hungry, but weirdly enough he's like that because it's "the right thing to do" or what he must/needs to do, the matoba must be powerful to be able to protect anyone and anything ("you can't protect anything if you're not powerful, shuuichi-san")

so "having your actions distort your goals", how does that apply to matoba in a world unbent? midorikawa was merciful enough to let us know his initial goal (or what he wants ppl to think his goal is?): "i'm looking for allies i can use" and at first he was definitely testing if natori could be that, but by the second part (that tellingly starts with a companion matoba artwork to natori's in the first part) i think he wanted to work with natori so badly simply bc he was a peer his age, probably the first and only in the exorcist world and for this interpretation i have no evidence just vibes lol besides this part in midorikawa's afterword from homura arc

anyways, for me this conversation during the second part of world unbent is the best example of matoba's actions distorting his goal:

in my interpretation matoba's goal here was to be picked by natori to be that person, to be his peer, to be the one that teaches him and works with him and "he's better" bc he's more powerful than takuma-san and that's a fact (also idt he wanted to be his "mentor" per se, i think he wanted to be closer than that but that's my bias lol). as i see it, matoba was not trying to bad mouth takuma (and i think natori understood that too), but simply stating what's most important: power, which is ultimately very different from the things that natori puts first, even tho he's also seeking to be a more powerful exorcist

another thing that is also funny about these two understanding but mostly misunderstanding each other is that natori wants to become powerful so he could be needed, so he can protect ppl, "do the right thing", which is the same but also different from the reason why matoba seeks power and the kind of power they seek is also different but the same in one aspect, natori wants spiritual power but also "power" to better himself, to be a better person, while the power matoba seeks is spiritual but also a power that will make the matoba clan unbeatable which can be power over ppl

the way his actions distort his goal here is this: natori focuses on the fact that matoba values spiritual power and the power one can have over another more than someone's character and what natori wishes to learn from ppl like takuma is how to be better as a person so he can carve his own path or at least finally find what his path even is and how to set himself in it. this blinds him to anything else, him and matoba are fundamentally different, end of story. and so from his pov he can not see what matoba is offering which was actually matoba's main goal in this conversation: "I can teach you, I can work with you, I can protect you, I can help you become more powerful, I can protect ppl, so you should stick with me, you sould use me instead of him" and matoba's shocked reaction is proof he was misunderstood and natori's reaction to this conversation was unexpected to him, if my interpretation of what he meant is right or not is up to debate tho

so if natori realises and reflects upon his "actions distorting his goal" does matoba do the same? and that's what intrigues me a lot here, because honestly i don't know, we are not shown that ever. does matoba realise how his actions can hinder his goals? does he care enough to reflect on it? does he care abt how he's perceived? does he care about how natori perceives him specifically? and honeslty the way he gets "worse" abt this in the present timeline (being an unsettling little shit especially towards natsume) makes the interpretation that he doesn't care enough to change and so doesn't reflect upon it seem plausible but when it comes to matoba maybe it's simpler that that:

he's just like that, he is who he is, the matoba clan head but also matoba seiji and he's not afraid of his mistakes, he'll face them head on even if they distort his goals. most interesting tho, while i do think he's like that partially bc he's a little shit and likes having fun ruffling ppl's feathers, i think it's interesting how there's a possibility of him seeing that habit as a mistake, idk if that interpretation is right but matoba is a character that is difficult to interpret especially bc we dont get his pov, he's a confusing character and the fact we never get into his head makes him even more multifaceted. now that we're getting more into matoba clan drama maybe someday we'll get his pov, but until then ig it souldn't be too hard to think a person notices and reflects upon their mistakes right? well, unless the person is matoba seiji, then i dont know.

there's other things i want to talk abt here, especially the fact that natori wants to be needed and current timeline matoba might actually need him, but does natori know that? you think the "a burden can be shared" bs might be an indication that he does, but i don't think he actually does lol also the fact matoba was seeking someone to use but ended up wanting to be used instead to this day (and is ecstatic abt it during homura, one of the many reasons why he looks like he's having the time of his life during those chapters imo), idk just the fact natori recoils at the wording of "someone to use" but wants to be useful himself and matoba ends up wanting to be used by him so badly it's funny (and also a little sad). just these two always wanting the same thing but mostly not and understanding but mostly misunderstanding each other more than anyone ever could for one another, how they could go together seamlessly but mostly don't yet i dont have the capacity to expand upon those right now, midorikawa gotta give me more so, anyways

Pribyslavitz was a thriving, peaceful community thanks to Henry's hard work. Being the Bailiff of an upcoming settlement was no easy task but it was thankfully paying off. He was enjoying some down time in his office, tucking into a hot bowl of stew to be precise, when there was a knock at the door.

He sighed, regretfully putting down his spoon, "come in."

The catchpole entered, holding back a grin as he did. He cleared his throat, shuffling on his feet, "sorry to disturb, Bailiff, but there's some trouble in the tavern."

"Can't you sort it out?" Henry said with a groan, resisting the urge to massage his temple. The catchpole sniggered knowingly.

"I think you'll want to handle this yourself."

Henry rolled his eyes but got to his feet, collecting his mace as he left the office. He followed the unhelpful catchpole towards the tavern; at first, he didn't see anything amiss. Locals sat around sharing ale and chatting. Then, he spotted Sir Hans engaging in a heated debate with a dice player, who currently had a vice-like grip on the front of his lordship's pourpoint.

"Oi," Henry shouted with all the authority he could muster as he approached the warring pair. He threw his arms up, "Sir Hans! What the fuck?"

The dice player let go of Hans as though he was burned, stammering out apologies as he quickly scurried away. Hans brushed himself down, scoffing, "well, I sure hope you're going to punish him, Bailiff."

"What are you doing here?"

"You know how it is," Hans shrugged, swigging on a tankard of ale, "I grew bored of the taverns in Rattay, the guards all kiss Hanush's arse. So I thought I'd try elsewhere," he had a smug look on his face as he finished with, "perhaps somewhere the Bailiff has no choice but to do what I say."

"It doesn't work like that," Henry answered although he wasn't quite sure himself. He sighed, "just...stay out of trouble."

Hans chuckled, getting up to follow after Henry. He nudged him when he finally caught up, "how could I possibly get into trouble with you watching me so closely. Bailiff."

"For God's sake," Henry muttered, looking around to ensure no one was listening. He still lowered his voice, "why are you always making it so hard for me?"

"My natural charm and good looks," Hans grinned cheekily and Henry couldn't help but chuckle, shaking his head. The lord stepped closer, "is there anywhere we can discuss...business?"

"Aye, my office," Henry answered casually, leading the way, "I'll get rid of Marius."

The master locator was himself nowhere to be seen when they arrived at the Rathaus. The catchpole from before was standing guard outside the office, eyeing the Bailiff and the fancy looking troublemaker as they entered.

Caught off-guard, Henry blurted out, "I have to punish him."

Hans' eyes widened as he quickly glanced in Henry's direction. The catchpole looked between them, wordlessly exiting the Rathaus with an understanding look. Hans let out a relieved laugh, casually entering Henry's office like he owned the place.

"Subtle as always, Henry."

Henry scoffed, locking the door behind him, "I didn't hear you say anything!"

"It doesn't matter," Hans stepped into Henry's space, running his hands over his chest with a a smirk, "I'm more interested to hear how you're going to punish me, master Bailiff."

It's actually amazing how okay I was with 430 being the ending for mha - despite all the villains dying, despite izuku and katsuki never getting a proper conversation despite it being lampshaded all series even by all might himself, despite wasting the final couple of chapters on bs we could've had in 1 chapter, despite not focusing more time on HOW MUCH society has changed to really hone in on the themes, despite not having most of the characters we've come to love converse/interact in the final goddamn chapter - I was still fine with the ending. That is until I had read the dumpster fire that is 431. Forget the whole weird ship confirmation(??) that was pushed onto the final page instead of including it in the actual main manga, I hate how this chapter essentially shits on most of what we've built on for the past four hundred chapters?? Like the problem isn't the ship, the problem is more so of how much was needed to be sacrificed and have characters behave ooc for it to happen? Especially when hori could have still made an iz//cha ending without doing all that. We could have confirmed that ship while also giving proper care to the other characters and also finally getting more on deku's thoughts on all that has happened to him from the series to the man he is now. The man he has had to become in the last 8 years and what that means now that he can be a hero again. We could've finally ended on the note of Izuku and Katsuki emulating the win to save, save to win as a hero duo, cementing them as proper childhood friends again after spending the majority of the manga with them apart and in deep miscommunication.. Instead we got whatever the fuck 431 was while leaving most things implied or done away with abruptly. And don't even get me started on why hori felt it was needed to shift focus and POV to someone else when this was a time it was very much needed to be deku's POV

any ssr you get comes with an additional character story, so ofc that means there was a bonus tengu kuukou story that i finally got around to reading lol and it told the making of his outfit basically!!!!

i’d like to make a correction about the costume being kuukou’s design sense lol!!!! it was a joint effort between him and jyushi actually!!!!!

kuukou didn’t have the know how to redesign the traditional garments he was given so he called jyushi over to do it for him lmao. jyushi was very very very reluctant to make changes to said traditional clothing but was eventually coerced into it lol

except that jyushi was starting to brainstorm ideas too vkei for kuukou’s liking and they got into a massive argument about the design that ended with kuukou trying to snatch the robes away from jyushi and in the process, was torn apart 😭😭😭

obviously this is when shakku followed by hitoya entered the scene LMAO

for ruining another temple’s traditional robes, shakku ordered kuukou to clean out kuugen temple’s entire storage room. kuukou instantly said fck that and tried to run away but didn’t make it very far lmao

like hitoya went full lawyer mode to justify that jyushi was merely an unwilling accomplice and that kuukou was solely to blame for property damage and kuukou was so pissed about getting treated like a criminal on trial LOL

but jyushi was adamant on fixing his mistakes so he was originally going to try to fix it

until kuukou, while btching and lowkey making a bigger mess out of cleaning lol, knocked over a basket of scrolls that just so happened to contain a scroll with a picture of a tengu on it

from the scroll, kuukou decided his outfit needed wings and that really got the creativity going in jyushi and thus!!!!!
