“Why are Digital Circus Fans upset over the new Maid Jax Merch?” Devil’s Advocate: At the risk of putting words in strangers’ mouths, I have a theory that some fans find the merchandising pointless, NOT inherently because it’s pointless merchandising, but because the humor upon which the visual gag relies is just ever so slightly distasteful. Jax makes it explicitly clear to Pomni that he values his masculinity (or, at least what's left of it in a reality he has little control over). Of what little he has left from being (presumably) human in the past, he is trying. Putting Jax in a maid dress for laughs while he's clearly uncomfortable in it OUGHT to be treated the same as vitriol as dead-naming a trans person. Yes, Jax is a jerk. No, clearly he doesn't respect other people's boundaries, either.  Deliberate misgendering based on mood is one Hell of a boundary to cross.  I dunno whether that’s a boundary that *should* be crossed.  My short answer is “Never - not even your worst enemy. That boundary should only be reserved for folks actively harming people and only if it’s part of a psyop to neutralize said perp. Neither gender should be used as a slur to insult anyone.” But meh. Satan doesn’t pay me enough to elaborate further. Not til next week. It’s just low, imo.
