Cairns Esplanade Lagoon | A Refreshing Oasis in the Heart of Cairns
The Cairns Esplanade Lagoon is a popular outdoor swimming destination located along the Cairns Esplanade in Far North Queensland. It offers both locals and visitors a beautiful and safe space to swim, relax, and enjoy the tropical surroundings of Cairns. The lagoon has become a central attraction in the city, providing a unique way to experience the tropical climate while remaining protected from the stinger-infested waters that are common along the coast. Whether you’re looking to swim, sunbathe, or enjoy a picnic by the water, the Cairns Esplanade Lagoon is the perfect spot to spend a day in the sun.
Historical Significance
The Cairns Esplanade Lagoon was opened in 2003 as part of the Cairns Esplanade Redevelopment Project. The aim was to create a safe, year-round swimming facility for both residents and visitors, particularly during the stinger season when jellyfish and other marine hazards make swimming in the ocean dangerous. The lagoon was designed with accessibility in mind and provides a comfortable space for families, tourists, and locals to enjoy the water in a safe and clean environment.
Beyond its functional purpose, the lagoon has become a symbol of Cairns’ commitment to enhancing the city's waterfront and public spaces. Its lush surroundings and modern design have made it a popular spot for relaxation and outdoor activities, contributing to the vibrancy of the Cairns Esplanade area.
Best Time to Visit
The Cairns Esplanade Lagoon is open year-round, making it a versatile destination for both locals and tourists. The best time to visit largely depends on your preferences for weather and crowd size:
Spring and Summer (September to February): These months are the most popular for visiting the lagoon, with Cairns' tropical climate offering warm temperatures perfect for swimming. The lagoon provides a refreshing break from the heat, especially during the stinger season when the ocean is not safe for swimming. Summer can also bring larger crowds, especially during school holidays, so it’s best to visit early in the day for a quieter experience.
Autumn and Winter (March to August): Although the temperatures are cooler during these months, the lagoon remains open and accessible. The cooler months are ideal for those who prefer a more peaceful atmosphere, with fewer visitors. The temperature is still comfortable enough for swimming, and the surrounding areas are less crowded, offering a more relaxed experience.
No matter the season, the lagoon provides a perfect place to cool off, relax, and enjoy the tropical environment.
Things to Do at Cairns Esplanade Lagoon
Swim in the Lagoon The Cairns Esplanade Lagoon is the main attraction, offering a large swimming area perfect for both casual swimmers and families with children. The lagoon is filtered and cleaned regularly, ensuring that the water remains fresh and inviting. The shallow areas are great for young children, while the deeper sections provide more space for swimming.
Relax on the Beachside Surrounding the lagoon is a beautiful sandy area where visitors can relax in the sun or take a leisurely stroll. The sandy beach provides a perfect spot for sunbathing, reading, or enjoying a picnic. The tropical atmosphere makes it feel like you’re at a beach resort, even though you’re in the heart of the city.
Have a Picnic The area around the lagoon features plenty of grassed spaces and picnic areas, making it an ideal spot for a family picnic or a quiet lunch with friends. There are also barbecue facilities available for those who prefer to cook outdoors, offering a great way to enjoy a meal in a scenic location.
Enjoy the Scenic Views The lagoon is situated along the Cairns Esplanade, which offers stunning views of the Coral Sea and the surrounding mountains. Visitors can take a walk along the Esplanade promenade and enjoy the beautiful scenery. It’s an excellent place for a relaxing stroll while taking in the sights and sounds of the tropical environment.
Play in the Shaded Areas There are plenty of shaded areas around the lagoon where you can relax and escape the sun. Whether you’re looking for a place to rest after a swim or simply want to enjoy the surroundings in comfort, the shaded pavilions and trees offer respite from the heat.
Explore the Cairns Esplanade Boardwalk The Cairns Esplanade is home to a scenic boardwalk that stretches along the waterfront, providing visitors with the opportunity to explore the area further. The boardwalk is perfect for walking, jogging, or cycling and offers fantastic views of the lagoon and surrounding landscapes.
Visit the Nearby Playground Close to the lagoon, there’s a playground for children, complete with swings, slides, and climbing structures. It’s an excellent spot for kids to burn off energy while parents can relax nearby. The playground is also conveniently located next to the lagoon, so families can easily switch between playtime and swimming.
Take in the Local Wildlife The Cairns Esplanade is home to a wide variety of birdlife, including waders, pelicans, and other tropical species. Visitors can observe the wildlife while walking along the Esplanade or relaxing by the lagoon. The area is also known for its lush greenery, which attracts a range of butterflies and other creatures.
Join Outdoor Fitness Classes The Esplanade is a popular spot for fitness enthusiasts, with outdoor exercise classes often held in the area. Yoga, pilates, and other fitness classes take place in the mornings, providing an opportunity for visitors to get active in a beautiful setting.
Watch the Sunset The Cairns Esplanade Lagoon offers a fantastic spot to watch the sunset. The changing colors of the sky over the Coral Sea, combined with the relaxed atmosphere of the lagoon, create a perfect setting for an evening of reflection or simply enjoying the beauty of Cairns.
Conclusion
The Cairns Esplanade Lagoon is an exceptional destination for both locals and tourists seeking a refreshing escape in the heart of Cairns. Whether you want to swim in the clean, safe waters, relax on the sandy beach, or enjoy a family picnic by the water, the lagoon offers a variety of activities to suit all ages. Its central location along the Cairns Esplanade makes it easy to access, and its beautiful surroundings ensure that every visit is a memorable one. Whether you’re cooling off during the hot summer months or enjoying the peaceful atmosphere in the cooler seasons, the Cairns Esplanade Lagoon is a must-visit attraction in this tropical paradise.

The Wreck of the HMAS Parramatta lies between Bar Point and Milsons Island, with her Stern preserved  at Queens Wharf Parramatta Reserve.

HMAS Parramatta (I) was one of six River Class torpedo boat destroyers built for the Royal Australian Navy during the period 1909-16. During World War I they formed the Australian Destroyer Flotilla. Sister ships were HMA Ships Huon (I), Swan (I), Torrens (I), Warrego (I) and Yarra (I).
HMAS Parramatta (I) was laid down by Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company Limited, at their shipyard in Govan, Scotland on 17 March 1909. She was launched on 9 February 1910 by Mrs Margot Asquith, wife of British Prime Minister Herbert Asquith. Parramatta (I) was the first new ship launched for the Australian Navy followed by her sister ship HMAS Yarra (I).

She was commissioned as HMS Parramatta at Greenock on 10 September 1910 under the command of Captain Frederick Tickell CMG CNF and departed Portsmouth on 19 September 1910 as a Royal Navy ship for the voyage to Australia, and proceeding via Suez in company with her sister ship Yarra and escorted by HMS Gibraltar, arrived at Broome, Western Australia, on 15 November, where the two destroyers passed to the control of the Australian Government.
At the outbreak of World War I, Parramatta (I), with her sister ships Warrego (I) and Yarra (I), formed the destroyer component of the Australian Fleet commanded by Vice Admiral Sir George E Patey, RAN.

During the opening phases of the war she operated with the fleet in the search for Von Spee's Pacific Squadron. Later she took part in the capture of the German Colonies in the South West Pacific, and a number of her sailors were landed at Kabakaul (New Britain), under the command of Lieutenant Gerald Hill RNR, of HMAS Yarra (I) to take part in the operations ashore against the Germans. Parramatta (I) was present at the surrender of German New Guinea at Rabaul on 13 September 1914.

In December all three ships proceeded up the Sepik River, and in January 1915 visited Morobe, Finschhafen and other points on the coast, cruising also to neighbouring island groups including the Admiralty Islands. On 5 February 1915 the three destroyers finally left Rabaul to return to Australia.

For several months after her return to Sydney, Parramatta (I) remained on the Australian coast. On 27 April the Flotilla left Port Phillip on a cruise which included visits to Jervis Bay, Port Jackson, Port Stephens and points along the Barrier Reef. By mid-June 1915 the three destroyers reached Cairns and thereon began the return south patrolling and exercising en route. On 23 August they returned to Sydney for refit.
In November 1915 Parramatta (I), Yarra (I) and Warrego (I) proceeded to Sandakan in Borneo and based there, the Flotilla spent the next six months patrolling Malayan, East Indies and Philippine waters. On 17 July 1916 Parramatta (I) returned to Sydney.
HMAS Parramatta (I) spent the period of September 1916 to May 1917 on patrol in Australian waters. On 10 May 1917 she sailed from Sydney in company of Yarra (I) and Warrego (I) for the Mediterranean, being joined en route by Swan, Huon and Torrens to form an Australian Flotilla of six destroyers. Following a period of training the ships were based on Brindisi on the heel of Italy for Adriatic anti-submarine patrols. On this work the destroyers were responsible for blocking the southward passage of submarines through the Adriatic Narrows into the Mediterranean and also the safe transit of Italian transports to and from Albania.

During the early months of these operations a patrol seldom passed without an enemy submarine being discovered and hunted, but as time went on the enemy was more rarely sighted until the patrol became routinely uneventful steaming. Enemy attacks on the strongly escorted troop transports moving in the danger areas were few and far between, but there were some by a few of the more audacious enemy submarine commanders.

During one such attack, 16 November 1917, the Italian transport Orione had her stern blown off by an enemy torpedo. Parramatta (I) and Yarra (I) stood by to salvage after Warrego (I) and Huon (I) had rescued the survivors. Parramatta (I) took her in tow but the enemy was still lurking beneath the surface and fired a second torpedo while the tow line was being secured. She then broke surface and dived again passing directly under Parramatta (I). Yarra (I) set out to hunt the enemy down but after a long and fruitless search returned to help in towing operations until the damaged ship was handed over to an Italian tug later that day.

Adriatic operations ended for Parramatta (I) on 28 September 1918 when she proceeded to Piraeus for refitting. In November she joined an Allied Squadron at Constantinople and on 25 November passed the Bosporus en route to Sebastapol where the Allied group took over some Russian ships on behalf of the anti-Bolshevik forces. Thenceforth Parramatta (I) was used to carry despatches and mails between Sebastapol and Constantinople.

At the end of December 1918 her service in the Black Sea and Sea of Marmora ended. Proceeding via Malta and Gibraltar she reached Devonport on 14 January 1919. En route, in company of other destroyers of the Australian Flotilla, Parramatta (I) was forced by gale force winds to put into Ferrol after sustaining considerable damage from heavy seas off Cape Finisterre.
On 6 March 1919, in company of HMA Ships Melbourne, Huon, Yarra and Warrego, she sailed for Australia, joined by Swan and Torrens at Malta. The flotilla reached Aden on 25 March, Colombo on 2 April, Singapore on 15 April and Darwin on 26 April. On the last day of the voyage Parramatta (I) and Yarra ran out of fuel and had to be towed into Darwin by Warrego.
The remainder of Parramatta's seagoing life was spent in Australian waters. She paid off at Sydney on 22 July 1919, recommissioned for a month (17 May 1920-13 June 1920) on the occasion of the visit of the Prince of Wales in HMS Renown, and thereafter remained in Reserve at Sydney until October 1924. From October 1924 until November 1925 she was based at Westernport as a training ship. On 16 November 1925 she returned to Sydney and remained in port until May 1926, when she proceeded to Adelaide where she was placed in Reserve with a Care and Maintenance Party for Naval Reserve Training. Except for a visit to Melbourne in May 1927, she remained in South Australian waters until April 1928, when she returned to Sydney, finally paying off on 20 April 1928.
On 17 October 1929 she was handed over to Cockatoo Dockyard for dismantling. Her hull was subsequently used as an accommodation vessel, on the Hawkesbury River, NSW, by the New South Wales Department of Prisons before being sold to Mr George Rhodes of Cowan as scrap. The vessel was moored in the river but broke adrift during a storm and ran aground and her wreck remains there to this day.

What remained of Parramatta (I) lay derelict on a mud bank north of Milson Island in the Hawkesbury River until 7 July 1973. On that and the following day the bow and stern sections were salvaged and later transported to a site on the north bank of the Parramatta River, upstream from the Silverwater Bridge. The stern of the ship was later established as a naval memorial at Queens Wharf Reserve. The bow section is mounted at the north end of Garden Island, Sydney, within the grounds of the Naval Cultural and Heritage Centre.

The world of a physiotherapist
https://bonduniversity.tumblr.com/post/150095460476/the-world-of-a-physiotherapistToday is World Physiotherapy Day!
This year’s theme is #addlifetoyears - celebrating the important role that physical therapists play in healthy ageing.
Tumblr media
Ben Wilkes decided he wanted to work as a physiotherapist in aged care when he saw the benefits his elderly grandmother gained from her visiting physio.
He studied a Bachelor of Sports Science and a Doctor Physiotherapy at Bond University, finding his niche as a community physiotherapist with Allied Connect where he works with patients in their own home, tailoring specific treatments that allow them to maintain their independence for as long as possible.
As part of their physiotherapy team, Ben generally works with patients suffering from chronic conditions - seeing around 30 patients on average in a day.
So, what does a typical day look like for Ben?
My day might start with a visit to a Residential Aged Care Facility to perform mobility assessments, post-fall reviews and equipment prescriptions such as wheelchairs and braces. I’ll then go to see patients in their homes to provide manual therapy, falls prevention and sometimes hydrotherapy. And, in the afternoon, I’ll be back in the residential aged care environment, working on pain management and rehabilitation.”
“The most satisfying aspect of my role is seeing a patient’s improvement over the course of their treatment, knowing that I have helped them to maintain their independence.”
Tumblr media
Ben says he chose to pursue his studies at Bond University because of Bond’s small class sizes and personal interaction between academics and their students.
“When I was doing my undergraduate degree, the Faculty staff organised an internship with Sharon Hannon who was then coach of Olympic gold medallist, Sally Pearson. It was fantastic to get first-hand experience of program design and drill progression for a world class athlete.”
Bond’s physiotherapy program includes 42 weeks of clinical placements and the Faculty ensured we got to experience a wide range of potential work environments – from neurological physio at Cairns Hospital and working with amputees at Princess Alexandra Hospital through to cardiorespiratory at Tweed Heads Hospital.
“I decided to become a community physiotherapist after one of my five-week placements was focused on mobile rehab in the patient-home environment.
The degree also included a 12-week clinical internship and research project on top of our placements. Bond’s physiotherapy staff put me in touch with a contact at the NSW Police Force and I had the opportunity to undertake a research project with them. My pilot study into the Impact of a Structured Reconditioning Program on the Physical Attributes and Attitudes of Injured Police Officers was published in the December 2013 issue of the Journal of Australian Strength and Conditioning.
Become a physiotherapist in just two years through our graduate-entry Doctor of Physiotherapy program, or four years via our undergraduate Bachelor of Exercise & Sports Science program coupled with the Doctor of Physiotherapy.

Ø Directions to learn Noorani Qaida
Here are several tips which may help you in learning the Noorani Qaida.
a.     Realize the importance of Noorani Qaida
Naturally, you achieve something when you're assured of its importance in your life. The same is the thing with learning, as you should never underestimate the value of Noorani Qaida. You will only be able to recite the verses of the Holy Quran accurately when you have proficient knowledge of its basic principles. It forms the basis of Quran emphasis and Tajweed rules in children.
 b.    Give proper time to learn Noorani Qaida.
It is crucial to give proper time to Noorani Qaida as like the other Quran lessons. When you ignore its significance and move on to the next course, i.e., the next task, you will never be able to build control on the Quranic words properly. In this way, you miss the Tajweed, which is the primary purpose of Noorani Qaida. And if you give proper time, you will never repeat the mistakes for the rest of your life which can happen in case of not giving time.
 c.      Practice your lesson on Daily Basis
It is an old saying that 'practice makes a man perfect,' so no one can deny the importance of regular revision. Arabic is not your mother tongue in learning Noorani Qaida, so you need more practice. When you go through your lesson, again and again, your brain recollects it more effectively, and as a result, it stores in your memory for a long time.
 d.    Find an experienced Tutor.
The Holy Quran is the sacred text of Allah Almighty. You can't learn it on your own. It would be best if you had to search out a professional Arabic teacher who can guide you and instruct you. You can assess your favourite teacher through online Quran lessons. It will make your learning more fruitful and save your time and several other expenses.

Where does the Cairnoodle come from?
The Cairnoodle is mixed or cross breed that has been deliberately bred and as such is now referred to more commonly as a Designer dog. Most of these dogs have two different purebred parents and a lot have Poodle in the mix because of their low shedding coats, intelligence and temperament. Many have a name that puts together parts of the parents names. A lot of breeders have joined the trend but not all of them are people you should be buying from. There are a lot of puppy mills and bad breeders who are deliberately cruel or just ignorant and really know nothing about careful breeding practices. Take care who you buy from. Without much known about the Cairnoodle's origins we look at the parent purebreeds to understand them better.
The Poodle
A very old breed is the Poodle. You can find pictures of Poodle like dogs on old Roman and Egyptian artifacts and in tombs from as far back as the 1st century. Despite most regular people thinking the Poodle is a French dog, in fact he comes from Germany and was used for hunting ducks and other waterfowl. But he became a more distinct breed when he made it to France. There have been three sizes of Poodles for centuries, the Standard, the Miniature and the Toy. French aristocracy adopted the toy Poodles as companions to carry around with them. When the Poodle was adopted into traveling circuses to perform they clipped them into interesting shapes and the aristocracy copied. He was registered in the Kennel Club in England in 1874, and the American Kennel Club in 1886.
Today he is known for being super intelligent, eager to please and easy to train. He is very devoted and loving and while energetic, can be calmed with training, socialization and enough exercise. He may seem to be aloof but in fact when you talk to Poodle owners you discover he has a great sense of humor and loves to clown around and play.
The Cairn Terrier
Scottish terrier breeds were originally classed as Scotch Terriers but in 1873 a new system came in to play and there were now two classes, Skye Terriers and Dandie Dinmont Terriers. Cairns were included in the Skye terrier classification. They were developed 200 years ago on the Isle of Skye by a Captain Martin MacLeod. Eventually in 1912 the Cairn-terrier had its own designation and was so named after Scottish burial sites. He came to America in 1913 and was granted membership of the AKC that same year.
Today he is a friendly lovely dog, always happy and eager to meet new people. As a terrier he is independent though and very alert. He likes to dig, chase things and he is a barker. He is a devoted family dog, good with the kids but can be sensitive and does not do well if you scold him. Early socialization and training are important to help keep him more stable.
Temperament
The Cairnoodle is an affectionate and loving dog who while enjoys being around people is also quite independent also. He is very loyal and protective and enjoys moments of cuddling as well as moments of playfulness and energy. He loves to get attention and be at the center of anything going on. He is an interesting mix of being sensitive like a Poodle but still able to be bold like a Terrier. He likes to have company and prefers not to be left alone for long periods. If he gets bored or is left alone for too long he can become destructive. He likes to entertain people, is eager to please, alert and confident. With strangers he is wary.
What does the Cairnoodle look like
He is a small dog weighing 13 to 20 pounds and standing 10 to 15 inches tall. He has a compact but strong body and looks quite tough with his wide head and large dark eyes. His coat can be wavy to curly, wispy and is short on the body. His ears are flappy and common colors are brown, black, grey, cream, white and golden.
Training and Exercise Needs
How active does the Cairnoodle need to be?
The Cairnoodle is just slightly active so is suitable as a pet for most owners, even those who cannot be that active. With a good selection of toys to rotate through he can play indoors and then he should also have one or two short daily walks as well. It is important he gets mental and physical stimulation and has enough interaction. He is well suited to living in an apartment as he is small enough and does not require a yard. A dog who is not walked enough and given enough stimulation can become frustrated, bored and will start to act out with barking, digging and other such behavior.
Does he train quickly?
The Cairnoodle despite being independent is easy to train, he listens and obeys and even needs less repetition than many other dogs. He likes to perform for people so as well as learning basic obedience he would also do well at learning tricks and the like. However he is not as easy when it comes to house training and in most cases it is a good idea to use the crate training method. Early training and socialization are important to see him become the best dog he can be. Use positive methods, reenforcing his successes with rewards, use treats and praise to encourage and motivate. Stay firm making it clear you are pack leader and be consistent and patient.
Living with a Cairnoodle
How much grooming is needed?
There is a moderate amount of maintenance and grooming to be done with the Cairnoodle. It will need regular brushing although it at least does not shed much at all, it does get tangled. It will need to be bathed with a dog shampoo just as it needs one. Too often and it is not good for the coat or his skin. You will also need to brush his teeth two to three times a week, check his ears for infections and wipe them clean once a week and then clip his nails when they get too long. Make sure the nails are not cut too short as this will cause pain and bleeding. Groomers can do it for you if you are not knowledgeable about them.
What is he like with children and other animals?
With socialization this dog is very good with children, he is playful and affectionate with them in fact. He also gets on well with other dogs and even other pets especially when raised with them. He may like to chase smaller animals though.
General information
He can make a good watchdog but otherwise his barking seems to range between rare and often! He will need to be fed ¾ to 1½ cups of good quality dry dog food each day, split into two meals. He can handle most climates and conditions.
Health Concerns
Health issues the Cairnoodle can be prone to include Addison's, Bloat, Cushings, Epilepsy, Hypothyroidism, Legg-Perthes, Patellar Luxation, Eye problems, Von Willebrand's, Craniomandibular Osteopathy, Cryptorchidism, Krabbe's disease, Liver problems, Hip Dysplasia and Skin Problems.
Costs involved in owning a Cairnoodle
The Cairnoodle puppy can cost between $600 to $900. Most Poodle mixes are a bit higher in price than other designer dogs though compared to some this is still one of the cheaper options. Other initial costs will include getting a crate, carrier, collar and leash, having the puppy examined by a vet, blood tests done, vaccinated, micro chipped, dewormed and neutered. These come to between $455 to $500. Annual costs for medical essentials like flea and tick prevention, check ups, further shots, pet insurance and heartworm prevention come to $460 to $560. Annual non-medical costs for basics like food, toys, treats, license, grooming and training come to between $680 to $780.
The Cairnoodle is a sweet and very entertaining dog. He is smart but while obedience training may go very well, house training is going to need more patience. He gets on well with other pets and children and could be a great family dog or companion to a single owner or couple. He is also a good option for those who are less active and could be hypoallergenic though that is something you would need to confirm.

Text description provided by the architects. There are few suburbs in Melbourne that have arguably as strong of a personality or local street culture as Collingwood, the inner north of Melbourne. In the past ten years we have seen a strong push towards increased density and desirability due to its proximity to the CBD, but more importantly because of the street, food and art culture. The gentrification of Collingwood has come at a cost, with many examples of middle-class values driving certain flavors and styles of development and architectural style.

Whilst one can argue that Collingwood is a suburb of diversity, there is an authenticity to Collingwood that is allusive and difficult to assimilate into. We looked at the streets, the corners, the edges, the materials, the history, the new and the old. We uprooted and moved to Collingwood, we engaged in the local. Our response process began by addressing the immediate context.
© Dan Hocking
The urban form acknowledges and mediates between both existing building in scale from the south and west, creating the initial big move, then the western façade is carved and sloped away through a careful sun shadowing exercise that protects the adjacent park from overshadowing. The corner is celebrated and held mimicking and acknowledging The Peel hotel directly opposite. This was the process of form generation. We then studied the local fenestration techniques and materiality and applied a solid versus void technique in line with the predominant historic built form.

Brick cladding was the only obvious choice, and the predominance of breeze block detailing observed gave forth the opportunity for detail, texture, and scale to the lower public realm. It wouldn’t be Collingwood without a restaurant on the ground level, with the boutique Congress wine bar introduced here. There are 30 odd apartments all of different flavors and sizes with only half the cars required. Our building is confident in being unpretentious and local, suitable for the “north”. We hope that it assimilates.

I've been following this blog for some time now and I love seeing how much love everyone gives to their dogs. I want a dog of my own, but unfortunately I'm a busy student and I'm afraid if I got one it would tear apart my apartment while I'm in class. Do you have any suggestions for easily trainable, less hyper breeds? Or possibly some training resources or advice? I love this blog and the positive vibes it puts out, so thanks for doing what you do!
Thanks 🤗
Easy to train and low energy is a bit tough because lazy dogs don’t really want to do much. Your mastiffs and Bulldogs are great at sleeping, but not so much at listening to commands.
But here are a few!
PapillonsMiniature SchnauzersCocker Spaniels PomeraniansYorkshire terriersBorder TerriersCairn TerriersMiniature Pinschers
Or any mixes of these you can find in your local animal shelter 😬
But with Terriers you have to be consistent. They are easy to train if you’re providing structured training. You also have to worry about these dogs barking, especially since you’re in an apartment. And just because they are small and do not require as much exercise as a larger dog, they still need to be physically and mentally stimulated everyday - all dogs do.
Good luck! There is a list of apartment breeds in my dog FAQs if you’re not a fan of small dogs. But trainability is not considered with that list.

2nd February 2017
Well here goes nothing, this is my first post. I started this blog today because I feel like I should start writing again.
In march 2015 I travelled to Australia where I shared my trip on Tumblr on another account. I made my way from Cairns down to Melbourne and it was the trip that changed my life. If you’re getting interested while reading this, ask me and I’ll personally give you the link.
Anyway, the reason that I’ve started this blog is quite a long story. My passion about the human body and all of its magic started when my mom took a yoga class. I didn’t quite know what to expect of yoga and mostly saw it as a way for busy and both lazy people to pretend a work-out. But once I took one lesson, I noticed this was not at all the case. I’d love to say I was hooked from te first lesson, but it actually took me a few years, books, my first yoga mat and a half year of education to get started.
Two years ago in september 2015 I enrolled at the University of Amsterdam, where I started a bachelor’s education about exercise therapy, or better known as Mensendieck therapy. The basics are making cognitive behaviour changes possible with patients by shared decision making and physical activities. The main aim is to pick up everyday activities that cannot be performed anymore by pains or other complaints of the body.
I was completely in love with it and because of that I think it was as easy for me as it still is. Everything made sense and I knew every muscle and bone. I got to know my body, every weak and every strong part. But there was one thing that kept bugging me. I’d been to physiotherapists because of the oh-so-commen CANS (complaints of the arm neck and shoulder). There I (like probably everyone ever seeing a physiotherapist) always had a bad feeling in my gut before every appointment because I never did the home exercises that he or she had given me. I thought to myself, how can I ask my patients to perform their exercises at home, if I don’t even do them?
What I’d come to know during all the practicing on my classmates was that I had hypertone (super tense) neck and shoulder muscles, my ankles were immobile, my abs were practically non-existing, my overall condition wasn’t de best and I was as stiff as wood.
Needless to say I had work to do. Besides field-hockey there was a time after my trip to OZ where I was fit. I went to the cheapest gym I could find and did a routine I thought was best for me. Turned out it had little to no effect at all.
I wanted to do things differently, and by differently I mean perfect because once I get my mind on something I have to achieve the best. So I bought a book called “Yoga without classes”, eager to learn positions and routines. I downloaded a few “zen” Spotify playlists and searched for a cheap but pretty yogamat.
There I went, in my room about to follow the routine described as “yoga to open your heart”. And it did. I fell in love with yoga but in the same time I was eager for progress in getting limber. Every morning and every night I did a routine from my new personal bible. But off course this was overachieving and it lasted up to 1 month. The best month I’d had, but not realistic. That is the most important thing I need to learn for not only doing yoga but also being a exercise therapist, stop being a perfectionist because it gives me stress and breathing trouble.
Now, a year later I wanna have that first month feeling again, within normal proportions.
I will be posting things related to yoga, yoga books, breathing exercises and more.

Wherever we travel, we’re always in search of the best pictures.  After all, we love all the pretty things!  We spent two weeks exploring Portugal, and while there’s so much more we wish to see, we experienced enough to safely declare that we love it!  We know you’ll fall in love with Portugal as well, especially with the help of these photos.
Lisbon
If you’re flying to Portugal, chances are you’ll come in through the beautiful city of Lisbon.  Sitting right on the Tagus River, the city offers history, hills, and plenty of photo ops.
Monuments and Landmarks
One of the most iconic sites of Lisbon is undoubtedly the Torre de Belém (Belém Tower).  However, there are several more worth checking out if you’re in the area.
These include the nearby Monument of Overseas Combatants, and the Elevador de Santa Justa and the Convento do Carmo at the center of town.
Closer to the water, you’ll also find the Rua Augusta Arch.  Or you could be intrigued by the beautiful Vasco da Gama Tower and its adjacent gondola.
The Waterfront
Speaking of the water, there’s no better way to spend a warm afternoon in Lisbon than by wandering the extensive waterfront.  Pick up an ice cream from one of the many local shops, or stop in for an espresso while you enjoy the sea breeze and street musicians.
Be sure you don’t miss the odd artistic cairn garden full of painted rocks stacked to look like sharks and beach bums.
Wandering the City
One of the best ways to experience a city is simply by getting lost in it.  Admire everything from the trees to the statues, the beautiful architecture, and the friendly people.
Look up toward the sky, and don’t forget to see the art at your feet all throughout the city.
Porto
When talking about Portugal, most rave about Porto.  And it’s easy to see why!  There’s so much to love about this culture-rich city.
Buildings
The city’s architecture tell a story of the past, a sad history ruled by a dictator.  Many surfaces have become a tapestry of colored tiles – azulejos – both inside and out, lending a unique beauty.
The city’s centerpiece, the Clerigos Tower, can not only be seen from all over the city, but it also plays a wonderfully beautiful bell sequence every day at noon.
History
One cannot visit a city as old as Porto and not learn some of its rich history.  From the old train station to a tiny bookstore that inspired J.K. Rowling, the city has so much to discover.
Fun fact!  Just across the Douro River from Porto is the old city of Gaia – also once known as Cale.  This was originally the center of town, with its northern neighbor merely being its port – “Portus Cale.”  As the two expanded into a much wider territory, they were jointly referred to as “Portucale,” which of course later became “Portugal.”
Food
While Porto is known best for its port wines (in which we indulged plenty!), it also features some delectable food!
Most know of the all-famous pasteis de nata – small custard pastries.  But few have experienced the massive heart-attack sandwich that is the francesinha.  Containing five meats, cheese, sauce, and even a fried egg, you don’t even need the bed of french fries to be intimidated.  But it’s a must-try if you’re in town.  Just bring a friend with whom to share it!
(You can make both of these at home with these recipes!)
Sintra
Porto and Lisbon are both wonderful cities, and if you only have a few days in Portugal, either will make for a great stop into the country.  However, if you have the time, do yourself a favor by spending a day or two in Sintra.
Pena Palace
The most colorful attraction is by far Pena Palace.  A bright flash of red and yellow, it’s impossible to miss atop the mountain at the center of Sintra.
Wander the palace and soak in the fairytale colors.  Be sure you don’t miss the really cool surprise in the chapel, and leave extra time to explore the surrounding gardens afterwards!
Quinta da Regaleira
Talk about some fun photo ops!  We originally saw pictures of the Initiation Well and knew we had to make the extra trip to this less-colorful palace – even with only an hour to spare!
More than just a fancy building, this is one of the most unique sites in Sintra because of its vast garden and wonderful network of hidden passageways.
Go to the bottom of the Initiation Well, and take your time finding all the little surprises at the ends of the tunnels.  We only wish we had more time there!
Castle of the Moors
Sintra is clearly a city of royalty.  If two palaces weren’t enough, it also features a sprawling castle.  We had to be selective in how many things we paid for, so we didn’t get a chance to go inside this time around.  But the Castle of the Moors promises lots to photograph, even from afar.
Coastline
Part of what makes Portugal so beautiful is its cities.  But it is also known for its stunning coastline.  Rocky, sandy, covered in greenery, we were never bored venturing out to the Atlantic.
We enjoyed explorative hikes along coastal paths and calm sunsets in the company of screaming gulls.
We even witnessed some fierce waves at the head of a storm.
And the little towns only add to the charm.  Torre Vedras, Cascais, Cabo do Roca – each has its own personality.
Since we only had two weeks, we didn’t even make it to the most beautiful stretch of coast – including the Algarve region – but that just gives us plenty of reason to return!

The Holy Quran is descended to the Heart of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by Allah Almighty. It is the last disclosure of guidance from our Creator. Its divine nature is fascinatingto every Muslim. It is in the Arabic language. At the time of revelation, everyone understood its message, but now, all individuals are not as efficient as before. Every person needs to attend Quran lessons to explore the Arabic terminology and rules of reciting the Holy Quran.
For the proper recognition of Arabic alphabets, Noorani Qaida Course is designed. As we know that Arabic is a deep language in vocabulary, one specific meaning is applicable in only a single condition. Even a minor mistake can alter the explanation of the whole statement. So, learning the Noorani Qaida before pursuing any other course is very beneficial for every Muslim as it also contains the rules of pronunciation of the Holy Quran.
Let’s discuss why you need to learn the Noorani Qaida.
Ø Noorani Qaida – The Basics of Holy Quran
Noorani Qaida is like a small Quran booklet. It contains the instructions to make you perfect in the recitation of the Holy Quran. The importance of Noorani Qaida increases when you live in a Non- Arabic county. In that condition, you should choose to learn the Basics of Arabic through online Quran lessons.
Noorani Qaida contains Arabic letters and rules that help correct the pronunciation of the words of the Holy Quran. If you want your child to learn, it enables your child to understand better and become proficient in the knowledge of the Holy Quran. It helps to develop a solid base for beginners. As mentioned earlier, Noorani Qaida is an introductory course; you can't excel in any other class of Quran if you don't have a grip over it.
Traditionally, such courses were taught at local madrasa and learning centers, but they can now be learned online. Parentsprefer their children to join Quran lessons for kids and adults. The Noorani Qaida is a significant way to learn the Tajweed. It assists you with the appropriate emphasis of the terms of Allah Almighty in the Holy Quran.

Retrospective Rumours Part Four: The Monster That Was Queen Godwin Ist
Perry’s Retrospective Rumors: S2E4 - The Monster That Was Queen Godwin Ist
Note: Some of the following is a fictional and romanticized version of true accounts and should not be held to historical scrutiny.
It is approximately the time of year for my regular school reunion. Although I look forward to such events I have to ask myself the question of fortune and how lucky I have been in the face of such debilitating conditions as dyslexia. Looking at such fortunes as that provided by the 70’s makes me reflect on today’s educational standards. The aim of most cultures is to advance their ability and knowledge base in all aspects of life. In the prehistory civilizations of Europe and other middle eastern cultures that ability was addressed with a point of view edging towards Mechanical Solidarity to a high degree. However, today all education instructing the young in varying topics is difficalt to the tenth degree. Even getting into collages has become stacked with barriers. The new students today flock into differing schooling systems and their families are forking out immense sums to get a good education for their future. Unfortunately, academic places of learning have had to gather together to uphold the legacies left by such famous intellectuals as Shelly and Byron. It was 1814 and Mary Godwin was meant to be on a secret getaway with her lover, Percy, but they seemed to have brought others with them to the small hamlet of Cologny near Lake Geneva. There ensued a battle of the minds that evening, where all would be challenged to come up with the most compelling ghost story. Frankenstein: A Modern Prometheus would go down as a great work. Reworked throughout history even to this day.
The real question we have to ask ourselves is how education is to be formed in our modern age compared to the way in which inspiration was generated in such a classical century of literature as the 19th). Stimulants are no longer the norm within the context of educational development and so we look to more conservative ways in which to promote its understanding. As I have mentioned numerous times before, Dialactic Eductaion as propounded by Karl Marx was a founding basis upon which we look at our conformist state in the 20) th. Marx said that his reasoning was that to build a Hidden Curriculum lying below the Real Curriculum which was a product of a culture that can be given material rewards that are for the good of the whole rather than the individual. A bonding of two classes. A Cultural Capital. By organizing what would later be described as a State Apparatus, around a quantitative basis, children could be compartmentalized and structuralized, (lesson timetables, individual leaning programes, and a very regimented regime), at an early age to prepare them a life within the workplace. Critical Education.  His approach was very much based upon a Macro point of view and his reasoning was that society creates people rather than people creating society.
Our literary talent is on the decrease should we leave the EU and Louise Richardson says, “A university’s excellence comes from its academics.” Richardson is the Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University. She believes that if universities lose their fame EU students will have to pay more than the British. Over the last 13 months, says Richardson, there has been a 14% drop in applications to British universities. More and more home Eductaion is looking like a viable alternative. It is a choice made by the individual parent which reflects on the teacher’s job.
The idea of Critical Eductaion as thought of by Marx, can only be applied to those within working class, or comprehensive systems of education. Those in Grammar schools have a higher status in the system because they focus mainly in academic subjects which allow them to escape the fate that critical education provides and move into well paid and high status occupations. Consequently, this Fragmentation creates a divide within the class system we see today. The idea of collective consciousness is something David Émile Durkheim (1858), advocated. Perhaps neither of these two options is preferable and our future should be left to find the answers to its own questions and the tutor should be trusted to achieve this. In 2017 Literature based works promote breakdown of the boundary between author and reader.
Barley’s description of the modern home seems, on reflection, quite stayed and confined in various respects, but it is most useful. It can be argued that it is quite accurate also. Certainly, within the context of the family unit he is correct in that rooms are mainly sectioned off and segregated according to how they are used. This tends to be different within the UK at least according to various outside influences from, finance, to comununal living, and construction of a family unit. It is evident that this description is not a universal one but it is definitely not good for educational stability. A Functionalist point of view towards this would be called Teleology. This indicates the projection of viewpoints to find out the likelihood of future sociological developments. This is a vital part if the functionalist theory as without this ability there would be no social progression. A theory that is debateable at best.
Internet/Satellite TV/Mobiles, ECT are Mostly screen based and interactive. Does this promote control over our learning abilities? The Marxists believe that ownership is control and that is exercised by those in such control. The Pluralists believe that the audience control through sales and diversity, via the Government who oversee censorship and content. Evidence for this is very difficult to find. Sales and controlling powers are easier to see if you are an insider, (Editors and such like).  Glasgow Media Group looked into the control of TV News, examining the content, (70’s), and editorial process.  Is it better today just to look outside onto our nearest lake and wonder at the oncoming storm to get our inspiration? One might wonder whether this might be the case. Certainly getting high and promoting the use of copious amounts of electric shocks worked for Mary Shelly. We ought to try it. Maybe not. Within years fast becoming residue. Education lies within our kin

Meet the entrepreneurs boosting BAME entrepreneurship in the UK
https://120profit.com/?p=2467&utm_source=SocialAutoPoster&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Tumblr The lack of diversity in British business is a pressing issue. And one that’s taken up thousands of column inches, sparked debate on social media, been a theme for many a start-up event and a focus of government research. A study from The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (DBEIS) found that just 5% of the UK’s small and medium-sized businesses are ethnic minority-led. In May last year, TechCrunch editor-at-large Mike Butcher echoed this sentiment when he posted on Twitter: “You know, it’s great that there are so many UK ‘women in tech’ type groups now, but where’s the support and groups for black tech founders?” And it’s not just black tech founders that need support, the BAME community – and support for BAME founders – have been under the radar. But the tide is turning. At the start of 2018, London Mayor Sadiq Khan launched a £7m initiative to help get more young people from diverse backgrounds into the capital’s technology sector, while over 20% of its £400m in lending has been given to BAME entrepreneurs to date, equating to 11,000 people. And BAME entrepreneurs are making waves in a cross-sector of industries; from food and beverage to recruitment and retail – start-up stories that should be shared and celebrated. We’ve gathered nine successful and up-and-coming ethnic minority founders to shine a light on their achievements and inspire others from an ethnic minority background to follow in their footsteps… Susie Ma – Tropic Skincare You might recognise Susie Ma from her appearance on The BBC’s The Apprentice in 2011 when she was just 21 years-old. Ma made it to the final four and, despite losing out to inventor Tom Pellereau, impressed Lord Sugar so much that he went into business with her after the show, becoming a 50/50 partner. The business he has partnered with her on? Tropic Skincare. Having grown up in Australia, Ma was inspired by the tropical plants native to Cairns to start the natural skincare brand and today Tropic Skincare operates as a social selling platform, giving people the means to start their own beauty business and earn their own salary. Now, aged 29 and recognised among Forbes’ elite 30 under 30, Ma’ has scaled Tropic Skincare to achieve multi-million-pound turnover with the business having paid out £15m in commissions to over 8,000 ambassadors. It’s also been recognised by a host of organisations including The Sunday Times Fast track 2016 and the Startups Awards. A young entrepreneur who’s stuck true to her vision and seen it blossom into a hugely successful venture, helping others in the process, Ma serves as inspiration to entrepreneurs from all walks of life. Novo Abakare – Syft Abakare worked as a senior trader at Tradelink Worldwide alternative instruments investment firm for six years before deciding to dip his toes in the business world. His first venture, co-founded with Jack Beaman is Syft – which came seventh in this year’s Startups 100. Syft is a recruitment staffing solution helping employers in hospitality and events find highly-trained and thoroughly vetted staff. The start-up is striving to create a platform with worker welfare at its core, giving them the chance to take control of their employment in an environment that can often treat them like a commodity. The punchy start-up has raised £8.75m to date and managed to secure backing from world champion boxer David Haye. Clients include Gordon Ramsay’s chain, SMART Group and Dish. On a mission to raise wages for workers across the UK and grow worldwide whilst staying true to its core beliefs of fair employment, Syft also has plans to start a charity aimed at getting the homeless back into work. Chika Russell – Chika’s It was while on maternity leave to have her second child that Chika Russell decided she never wanted to work for anyone else again. Inspired by her West African roots and a love of cooking, Russell launched Startups 100-featured Chika’s in 2014, a range of gluten-free snack foods including flavoured nuts, and chickpea and plantain crisps. Russell spent a year sourcing ingredients and refining recipes before she decided she was ready to bring her creations to the world. Then, in 2015, the brand got a major boost after an appearance on Dragons’ Den saw Russell land offers from all five Dragons. Whilst she initially accepted Peter Jones’ offer of £30,000 for 25%, Russell decided to reject the deal and go it alone. Now projecting £10m turnover for 2019 and rolling out new products in 1,200 Sainsbury’s stores nationwide, Russell shows it’s possible to juggle full-time motherhood and a world-class business. Amit Gudka – Bulb The much-deserving winner of The Start Up Loans Start-up of the Year 2017,  Bulb is the renewable energy start-up taking on the hegemony of the Big Six – co-founded by BAME entrepreneur Amit Gudka. After graduating from the University of Cambridge with a degree in mathematics, Gudka spent eight years trading European gas and electricity for Barclays. It was here that he first learnt about the ins and outs of the energy industry and realised it was ripe for disruption. in 2015, Gudka and co-founder Hayden Wood founded Bulb, offering 100% renewable electricity and 10% green gas to customers across the UK. The start-up now claims to be the fastest growing energy supplier in the UK with more than 450,000 customers. Bulb is also the only supplier in the country to be an accredited B Corp, meaning it meets “rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency”. Tamara Rajah – Live Better With After 10 years working in the healthcare sector, Tamara Rajah noticed that, whilst cancer patients were receiving excellent care, there was no obvious place for them to go buy non-medical products that would help them improve their quality of life. And so, she founded Live Better With. A one stop shop for everything from skin creams to pain and fatigue treatment, Live Better With acts an online marketplace to help those with cancer and women going through the menopause. The site, which came in at 19 in this year’s Startups 100 index, has attracted tens of thousands of customers since launch and recently opened a retail store in Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London. It’s not surprising that the business has done so well: Rajah already has three previous ventures and was named in Management Today’s UK’s 35 Women Under 35 and Wharton’s 2017 40 under 40. More recently, Rajah was featured as one of London Tech Week’s 2018 changemakers. Rajah is also a founding board member of Sherry Coutu and Reid Hoffman’s Scale-Up Institute. A true inspiration for budding BAME business owners: Rajah is a serial entrepreneur with a mindboggling resume and a business that helps bring comfort and relief to those who need it most. Michaela Alexander – Miles & Mia Michaela Alexander found inspiration in her two children for her eponymous business Miles and Mia. Miles & Mia is a children’s book series which seeks to fill a gap in the market for books featuring characters of ethnic minority. Alexander started the company after noticing a dearth of ethnically diverse children’s books in the UK. She ordered books in from the US and found that her children really enjoyed them as they were so different to the ones that they’d read in nursery and school as illustrations looked like them. Now, instead of ordering books from the US, Alexander is the one shipping books over the Atlantic. Backed by a loan from The Start Up Loans Company, Miles & Mia launched in 2016 and has received endorsement from TV personality Katie Piper and rapper Giggs while Precious; the magazine for women in colour, has described Alexander as a “mover and shaker of the industry”. Buoyed by this early success, eventually Alexander hopes to create a whole Miles and Mia brand with clothes and accessories, and even dolls based on the books characters. John Otagburuagu – Black Cowboy Coffee Waffles John Otagburuagu was obsessed with cowboys growing up, recognising the role of Afro-Americans to the legend of the cowboy. After moving to London with no job and no home, Otagburuagu discovered the Start Up Loan scheme at his local job centre and decided to submit an application to start his own business. Otagburuagu had experience in the service industry, loved good coffee and had discovered the dense, rich, sweet, chewy joy of Liege waffles whilst travelling round Belgium and Europe with friends. With his Start Up Loan application successful, he decided to start a street café business and there was only one name for it: Black Cowboy Coffee and Waffles. As the name suggests, the cowboy-themed business – which operates from a converted horse box – serves coffee and waffles, as well as smoothies and other food to go. Located in Elephant and Castle, Otagburuagu’s café attracts a steady stream of customers, and has earnt a roster of compelling testimonials; Buzzfeed has named it one of the top 10 places to eat in the area. Ann Akin – HARTS Theatre Company A professional actress, writer, choreographer, director, and entrepreneur; Ann Akin is the founder of HARTS Theatre Company. A social enterprise which uses performing arts to engage young people and encourage them to create social change using their voices. As well as credits on Law and Order UK (ITV), EastEnders (BBC1), Humans (C4), The Javone Prince Show (BBC2), The Delivery Man (ITV) and The Unforgotten (ITV), Akin’s first production, Conversations with Love, won Best Theatre Production and Best Writer at the 2011 BEFFTA awards. Now she wants to bring the skills she’s learnt on the stage and on set to the next generation. Akin’s business runs after school drama classes for four to 19-year olds, which use games, team building exercises and confidence boosting tasks. A key focus of HARTS Theatre Company is mental health. The start-up runs mental health awareness classes for young people to educate them on mental health issues. Akin has also launched two festivals, including one that offers support to emerging writers, giving and another that encourages young people to talk about mental health. Kerry-Ann Graham – Gabby’s World Another mum spurred into entrepreneurialism by her children, Kerry-Ann Graham founded Gabby’s World in response to the lack of ethnically diverse toys in the UK. Graham had found it difficult to source “culturally relevant” toys for her young daughter and was troubled that her daughter wasn’t represented. Graham wanted to start a business that would reinforce the positive self-image of black and ethnic minority children and allow them to accept and embrace their differences from childhood. While it took some time to source affordable and reputable manufacturers and get on top of juggling childcare, with the help of a Start Up Loan, Graham was able to launch Gabby’s World; an online marketplace for BAME dolls and toys. And Graham now has plans underway to extend her business by manufacturing her own line of dolls, including ranges for boys and babies. On her advice for those thinking about becoming an entrepreneur, Graham says: “Whatever you are pursuing, you must have an innate passion and strongly believe in the concept of the business. This is to ensure that when obstacles do come your way, you will hold steadfast and approach those obstacles with the resolution that failure isn’t an option and just see challenges and closed doors as obstacles that will be overcome. “Get up, brush off the disappointment and learn from the experience and move forward!” Gabby’s World is just one of thousands of businesses to have received a loan from The Start Up Loans Company; headline sponsor of The Startups Awards 2018.
