21. kissing the other’s brow & 38. stroking their leg
It’s late when they get home, their shift having run over by two hours thanks to a high rise fire that took the efforts of three additional houses to get under control. Buck and Eddie had scaled at least fourteen flights of stairs alone, then back down and up again when they found a few stragglers along the way, and Buck doesn’t remember ever being so tired in his life.
He shuffles into the house behind Eddie, trying to hide the way he’s limping. It’s probably no use — Eddie is too astute, and he’s sure he saw the way Buck had to grit his teeth when he took off his boots back at the station. But if he can just get into the bathtub and then into bed he’ll be fine. They have plans to take Chris and his friends to the beach tomorrow, and he doesn’t want to give Eddie any reason to think they should cancel.
Buck goes into the kitchen first to grab a bottle of water while Eddie checks in on Chris, who’s already asleep by the sounds of it. When Buck emerges, Eddie is down the hall and closing the door of the bathroom behind him. Damn.
It’s his night on the couch. He should make up his bed, but his leg is screaming and it’s all he can do to ease himself onto it without yelping in pain. He reclines and elevates it over the back of the couch with a private little wince and closes his eyes.
The next thing he’s aware of is Eddie’s hand on his shoulder, gently nudging him awake.
“Can you stand?” Eddie asks him.
Buck blinks, eyes bleary from the few minutes of sleep he must’ve nabbed. “I—yeah, sure.”
He moves too quickly, and there’s no way Eddie misses the way his face contorts in pain from it. He’s right there, helping Buck stand, and easily supports his weight when his leg threatens to give out.
“Sorry,” Buck hisses in his ear, gripping his shoulder for balance. “I’ll be okay in a sec.”
Eddie just tightens his hold on Buck’s waist. “Take your time bud.”
Buck stretches until he thinks he can reasonably put weight on it again, and when he nods Eddie helps him down the hall. So much for hiding it.
“Promise I’m still good for tomorrow,” Buck gets out through a clenched jaw.
“Don’t worry about that. C’mon.”
They pass the bedroom, and when Buck makes an inquisitive little noise Eddie just keeps walking him towards the bathroom.
The bath is full of warm water when they step in. Stream curls from the top of the water, slightly cloudy and heavenly looking.
“I put in some of those CBD bath salts,” Eddie tells him, releasing him at last to dig a clean towel out of the closet. “And I think there’s still some of the cream left we can put on after. Do you need one of your pills, or did you take one?”
Buck doesn’t answer for a minute, choking back the sudden lump in his throat. Eddie’s exhausted too — he climbed the same amount of stairs, carried the same amount of people as Buck. He can see in the droop shoulders and his half-lidded eyes that he’s tired, and he still took the time to do this for him. No one’s ever known him this way, cared for him the way Eddie does, save for Maddie, and it overwhelms him at times like this.
“Buck?”
Eddie’s voice breaks him out of his little reverie. He blinks a few times, croaks, “Y-yeah?”
“Do you need your medicine?”
Buck swallows and nods. “Uh, yeah. Probably should. They’re in my bag.”
Eddie nods. “Go ahead and get in, I’ll bring it to you.”
Buck undresses when he leaves, and gingerly lowers himself into the water. It’s perfect, and he immediately feels his muscles relax, his leg practically singing in relief.
Eddie comes back in a minute later and crouches to set Buck’s medicine and bottle of water on the edge of the tub. Buck’s not the least bit self conscious — Eddie’s seen him naked before, more than once, and it’s not like he can really see anything with the way Buck has his leg crooked. But he wouldn’t care if he could, and that feels significant in a way he doesn’t have the energy to examine.
“Need anything else?” Eddie asks.
Buck shakes his head. “No, this is perfect. Thank you Eddie.”
Eddie smiles, and leans forward to press a soft kiss to Buck’s brow as he straightens. “Soak for at least thirty minutes. Holler if you need me.”
And then he’s gone, leaving Buck staring after him like a fish out of water.
Any chance of relaxation goes out the window. He tells himself it’s no big deal; it was probably just one of Eddie’s dad reflexes. He’s seen him do the same thing when giving Chris medicine countless times. It doesn’t mean anything, it can’t, and yet Buck feels the ghost of his lips between his eyes like a sting.
He swallows the pill and soaks until the water goes cold, and his leg is somewhat better after — he can at least put weight on it when he stands. His mind buzzes while he finishes his nightly routine, and it’s almost enough to drown out the constant diatribe of Eddie kissed me Eddie kissed me Eddie kissed me racketing around his skull.
Almost.
Eddie is on the couch when he comes out, scrolling idly on his phone. He scoots over so Buck can sit next to him and pats his lap.
“Let me see.”
“It’s okay,” Buck says as he lowers himself down. “The bath helped.”
“And yet you’re still limping. C’mon, up.”
Buck sighs and swings his leg up, foot resting on Eddies thigh. Eddie pushes his sweats up to his knee and brushes his hand over Buck’s calf, just feeling, and Buck tries not to shiver. He knows he’s feeling for excess warmth, for evidence of a clot, and nods to himself when Buck apparently passes the test.
“Think you can handle a massage?” he asks.
Buck swallows hard. “Yeah, think so.”
Eddie nods again and reaches over to grab the bottle of CBD cream on the coffee table. He puts a generous amount in his palm and rubs his hands together, then starts massaging it gently into Buck’s calf.
It’s not the first time he’s done this for Buck, but it’s the first time since Eddie’s touch became something of a livewire; since every brush of arms at work or friendly shoulder clap made him ache for more, since he developed a somewhat unhealthy obsession with Eddie’s hands. And with the memory of Eddie’s lips on his skin still fresh, it’s all he can do not to moan as those capable hands knead at his sore leg.
“Relax,” Eddie says quietly. “You’re tense as hell bud, that’s not gonna help.”
“Sorry,” Buck says, a little more breathless than he intends.
“Lean back,” Eddie instructs, and Buck complies. He relaxes against one of the throw pillows, and Eddie pulls his leg even closer. “Close your eyes, if you want.”
He does, if only so he doesn’t have to watch Eddie be so competent and gorgeous in the soft lamplight. Slowly, he does relax, Eddie’s ministrations finally taking effect. Buck’s all but a puddle of mush on the couch by the time his leg starts to feel more normal, and Eddie’s kneading turns into gentle stroking motions up and down his shin.
“Better?”
Buck sighs and nods. “Much. Thanks.”
“Of course,” Eddie says with a small squeeze of his calf.
Eddie doesn’t stop touching him. He keeps up the soft caress of Buck’s shin until he’s half asleep, until the vulnerable knife’s edge of consciousness turn his thoughts fuzzy and precarious. He thinks, I love you, and you should know.
Instead, what he says is, “Did you mean to kiss me?”
Eddie’s hand stops, and Buck chances opening his eyes. Eddie’s are on him, dark in the low light, and Buck can’t pin down his expression. It’s not horror, or regret, or any of the things he convinced himself of in the bath, so that’s something. In fact, his lips curl into a closed-mouth smile aimed at his lap.
“I did kiss you, didn’t I?”
Buck laughs, a little self deprecating. “Yeah, kinda.”
“Hmm,” Eddie hums, and glances down at his hand on Buck’s leg. He rubs a little circle into Buck’s shin with his thumb, still smiling softly. “Not exactly how I meant to do it.”
Buck’s heart tha-thums in his chest. “Meant to?”
Eddie’s cheeks flush pink, eyes flicking up to meet his, and Buck kind of thinks he might die.
“Well, I’d hoped it’d be more romantic than while you were naked and in pain in the bathtub.”
All the blood in his body rushes to his head like he’s on a rollercoaster, world suddenly flipped on its head. He sits up, jostling Eddie’s hand on his leg, but he just trails it down to hold Buck’s ankle instead. There’s still a faint blush on Eddie’s cheeks but he’s smiling expectantly, waiting for whatever response Buck has to that.
He’s coming up empty so far. The seconds stretch on in silence, until Eddie starts to look a little unsure.
“Buck?”
“You could try it now,” Buck says in a rush, hoping for once that first thought best thought is the right move. “If—I mean, this feels pretty—pretty romantic. To me.”
“Oh does it?” Eddie teases, and scoots closer, pulling Buck’s leg fully over his knees until his thigh rests on Eddie’s lap. Eddie puts a warm hand on his knee and squeezes.
“Mhm, definitely,” Buck agrees, nodding like a bobble head. “Most romantic moment of my life. By a lot.”
Eddie laughs, and cups Buck’s face with his free hand. The leftover cream on his hands makes Buck’s cheek tingle, and he waits, hardly daring to breathe while Eddie’s eyes track over his face. And then Eddie leans in and brushes his lips between his eyebrows.
“Eddie,” Buck breathes.
Eddie moves to his birthmark, pressing gentle kisses to the pink skin above his brow and on his eyelid. He kisses Buck’s cheeks and nose and then, just when Buck thinks his heart might actually give out, his waiting mouth.
It’s brief, and sweet, and the best kiss of his life. Eddie pulls back too soon and Buck tries to follow, but Eddie kisses his forehead again instead and leans back.
“That was more how I pictured it.”
And that’s a revelation in itself, one that he’s going to need a few weeks to process. Before he can stutter out a response, Eddie gently sets Buck’s leg on the floor and stands, offering his hand.
“C’mon. You’re not sleeping out here on that leg.”
Buck takes his hand, and Eddie pulls him to his feet. His leg barely even protests, but he sways closer to Eddie all the same.
“Eddie, I—you should know, I—”
Eddie silences him with another kiss. “Tell me tomorrow, sweetheart. We’ve got time.”

Back to the Dregs Part 15
Part 1 Next:
Content: injuries, nicotine addiction, painful wound treatment, ANGST, whumper turned caretaker, ptsd, mention of child abuse
Michael dozed. As his consciousness faded in again, he overheard voices in the basement.
"But, sir... you're terrifying him."
"I'm not terrifying him, I'm just being a dick."
"...Maybe both?" Al said tentatively.
There was a pause.
"You think he's really scared?"
"Well, you did threaten to kill him."
"...Yeah, colloquially." Morgan said, and then there was another pause before he added, "Come here." Their steps came toward the bed.
Michael made sure his breathing stayed light and even. After getting kidnapped, he'd started practicing.
"Did you get a look at what they did to him?" Morgan said in a tone deep with irritation.
"Not really." Al said, coming closer.
Michael focused on his breathing, hoping they wouldn't touch him.
"Bruises and cuts, all down his back." Morgan said, more softly now. "I--it's a wonder they didn't fucking kill him. Just... And when he's sick, too."
"Sir, I think he's sick because of the beating."
"That's ridiculous. That doesn't happen." Morgan said. "Anyway, I've got disinfectant, bandages, all that stuff you asked for. Oh, and here. CBD lotion. For the bruises? Just... be gentle."
"Sir, wait!" Al sounded alarmed. "Don't leave me alone with him."
Michael inwardly rolled his eyes. Not like he was some feral animal.
"I don't understand why you would need me." Morgan said. His steps were already retreating.
"What if I need to hold him down? Or carry him to the bathtub?"
There was a pause.
"I don't understand, sir... Why are you so opposed to showing him a little bit of kindness?"
Morgan sighed.
"He might... Smile at me, or something."
Suddenly a large hand fell lightly on Michael's arm. He flinched and gasped awake.
"Huh?" He panted.
"Sorry," Al said, patting his arm. "I've got a few things here that should make you feel better."
Michael breathed out and nodded.
"I think it would really help all of us," Al nodded significantly at Michael, "if you stay, sir, please."
Morgan scowled and came closer.
"Need me to hold him down?" He glared at Michael, who opted for closing his eyes.
He didn't feel up for confrontation like this--not with his head pounding and his skin burning.
"He might do better with a bath, maybe with salt or something." Al said.
The thought of touching his dried-out, inflamed wounds to water was awful.
"Oh, please, no," Michael groaned.
"Michael, dude, calm down." Alvie rubbed his shoulder comfortingly, avoiding the injuries. "If you could see your back... it's really bad. There's... dirt, and stuff."
"Then take me to the hospital." Michael groaned.
"He's upstairs." Morgan cut in, walking closer.
Michael cursed into the pillow, huffing as he pushed back tears yet again.
"Alright, let's do it." He said.
Michael collapsed three times on the way to the basement bathroom, and eventually Morgan wrapped his arms around him and dragged him there, in a very awkward hug sort of thing.
When they lowered him into the lukewarm water, the moment it touched the first cut he gasped and clapped a hand over his mouth to keep from screaming.
The next minute someone had given him a rag to bite onto and his knuckles were popping with how hard he was gripping the bathtub, now fully immersed.
Tears streamed down his cheeks as he let out silent screams, then sobs, through the rag, biting down hard. He couldn't make any noise, or Mr. Huer would hear him. He was vaguely aware of Morgan now, apologizing over and over, cursing liberally.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry Mike, fuck, I'm sorry."
Michael shuddered as his tears soaked the rag, then as the pain ebbed, he took out the rag and then opened his eyes.
Morgan was leaning over the side of the tub in front of him with concern and fear on his face, and he stretched out his hand to touch Michael's cheek with the back of his fingers.
"Sorry... Are you okay?"
Michael shuddered and nodded.
Morgan got up and stepped back, looking out into the basement and then back in at Al like he didn't know what to do.
"So... I have to wash out the dirt now..." Al said.
Michael grimaced and nodded again. He put the rag back in his teeth.
[again I'm not too familiar with cigarettes so if it's inaccurate feel free to let me know, I want to be accurate]
It was soothing. Muscles more relaxed now, clean after a week of not being able to bathe, old and new blood washed off, now they had to unroll a sleeping bag for him while they got Morgan's bedding in the wash. It was too gross and bloody now.
The CBD oil must've been high quality, because the pain had retreated quite a bit from the bruises. The gunshot wound still throbbed like a motherfucker. He missed the Codeine.
After Alvie left, Morgan pulled out his cigarette box again and tipped one out.
"Does it still hurt?" He asked, staring neutrally at the wall Michael was leaning back on.
"A lot less." Michael said.
Morgan held out the cigarette box, offering him one.
Michael hesitated. He'd already broken his two-year streak, and it had felt so good... Would one more really hurt that much? He could start over later, start his whole life over, all over again. He needed the relief right now.
He swallowed, staring at it with gritted teeth.
Then he shook his head.
"No, I'm trying to quit."
Morgan sucked a breath in as he put the box away. He put his in his mouth and lit it.
"Me too." He inhaled and slowly released the smoke toward the middle of the room.
"How about that Blue Tarantula?" Michael suggested.
Morgan raised an eyebrow.
"How'd you know I have it?"
"Come on, it's your favorite." Michael shrugged.
Morgan assented and pulled out the tequila. He tapped his ash off onto the little tray, considered for a moment, then popped off the top of the bottle with his teeth and took a full-on gulp, straight.
He hummed in satisfaction, leaning back even as tears came to his eyes from the hundred-proof alcohol.
Michael took only a small sip, but he was grateful for some kind of relaxation after denying himself of that cigarette. The back of his mind was already planning out how he'd sneak one more pack as soon as he got out of this mess.
"This reminds me of the old days." Morgan smiled bitterly. "When the three of us would go drink and smoke up on the condo roof."
Michael remembered it. It was a mixture of fondness and anxiety he'd felt on those nights. Mr. Huer didn't usually burn him on the condo roof, as long as he acted like he practically worshiped the ground Mr. Huer walked on. But that didn't mean the threat wasn't there in that coal between his foster father's fingers.
He'd gotten so used to having fun while also stressed out of his mind, that now, he couldn't have one without the other.
Morgan had started to nod and sip mindlessly at the tequila. He did that when he was getting drunk.
"Do you miss it?" Michael asked.
Morgan scoffed.
"Do I miss being powerless?" He took another drink and set the bottle down. "No."
"Would you have run if you could've?"
Morgan shrugged.
"No point in answering that. I can't run."
"But I... what's stopping you?"
"Would you go? Would you leave me here with him?" Morgan's words slurred.
Michael licked his lips.
"We... we could both go, man."
"Oh come on." Morgan waved at him dismissively. "Easy for you to say."
"I don't understand, man." Michael pressed. "Why are you... protecting me from him?"
Morgan leaned forward, staring at the floor.
"Why shouldn't I?" He said. "I'm your brother."
"Foster brother."
Morgan winced.
Michael took a drink from the bottle, a couple shots' worth at least.
Morgan took a long drag on the cigarette, pulling the coal closer to the filter at record speed, and Michael blinked several times, trying not to betray his discomfort. He hated watching other people smoke. Morgan side-eyed him as he exhaled. He moved the unfinished cigarette to the tray as another chunk of ash fell, took a breath, and then stamped out the coal on the side.
He raised his eyebrows at Michael as if to say "is that better?"
Michael flushed and looked away. His anxiety had been pretty obvious, then.
Morgan's serious composure was quickly fading into a self-satisfied smirk. He was getting drunker.
"Morgan... can you please tell me why you brought me here? I won't... Smile at you, or anything. I promise."
Morgan scowled.
"You heard that?" He lurched toward Michael with a clenched fist, rage on his face.
Michael raised a bruised forarm to protect his face, cringeing.
Morgan froze, looked down at his posture, then sank down onto the edge of the bed, looking shocked.
"I forgot... you hate me." He covered his face and a hoarse little gasp came out. His shoulders shook. He was crying. And definitely drunk.
"Hate?" Michael repeated. Well, yes, he'd felt htat way for a long time, but that was not what he was feeling now.
If Morgan was drunk enough to cry, Michael suspected that he'd be puking shortly.
"And if you don't hate me, you're an idiot." Morgan whispered.
"Wow, thanks..." Michael reached out to comfort him, then stopped himself. He was supposed to hate him.
"Don't thank me." Morgan scowled. "I will kick your ass."
"I just wanna know why."
"Why what?" Morgan snapped. "Why'd I help him kick you? Why'd I hold you down so he could burn off the soles of your feet?"
"...Yeah." Michael grimaced. "That."
"It doesn't matter why."
"Morgan..." Michael pleaded.
Morgan growled and rubbed his face, noticed tears on his fingers and wiped them dry hastily.
"He said if I didn't help, he'd beat you with a stick instead of his hands. Even followed through a couple times."
So that was the time with the kindling.
Morgan cleared his throat, but it sounded more like a growl.
"Like I said, it doesn't matter."
Michael's mouth opened in shock.
"I... Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because it doesn't matter!" Morgan nearly shouted, and Michael tensed, waiting to hear a noise from upstairs, but nothing happened. "I still did it."
Michael was blinking tears back.
"But... If I'd known you cared... at all... it would've meant so much."
"And then what?" Morgan stood up, fists clenched in a way that made Michael nervous. "Then you would've forgiven me, wouldn't you?"
Michael met the accusing glare with confusion, wondering if the alcohol was hitting him hard enough to affect his comprehension now, because that didn't make sense.
"I... is that bad?" He said.
"I don't deserve to be forgiven, man." Morgan said. With apparent effort he unclenched his fists and walked away slowly. "Now I'm going to go to the bathroom and cool down. I'll come back out, go back to being a dick, and we both forget this ever happened. Got it?"
Michael was about to respond, but Morgan turned and jabbed a threatening finger at him and he shut his mouth.
Suddenly there was the sound of an upstairs door softly opening and closing. Morgan and Michael both froze, then Morgan cocked his head as footsteps came across the floor above them, toward the basement door.
Michael recognized the footsteps of Joseph Huer.
Morgan set his teeth.
"Hide."

Question for the resident medico: my boys get leg cramps when they're growing. Heat and massage alike do nothing to help. What can I do for them besides supplements/multivitamins?
Hey! So, there's nothing research wise that proves my theory, but based on what we do know about growing pains being related to psychological strain and how kids affected tend to have lower pain thresholds, my gut says it's an endocannabinoid imbalance. You can get a broad spectrum CBD item (creams or bath salts for example), but avoid anything that says full spectrum, as that contains THC. If you don't want to use a CBD-specific product, I'd recommend for your family specifically paracress/toothache plant in an herbal syrup (you might have to diy it; if it's too much work, just decant it and apply it externally) as well as copaiba oil.

Hey I’m new on tumblr and I’m having fun so far so I thought I would contribute! This is just something that I have been thinking about a lot lately and so I wrote a list down for my own sake and maybe it can help somebody else too. Basically I’ve got a list of things that help with my chronic pain and hyper mobile elhers danlos syndrome as a young adult/teenager who works and attends school full time while doing extracurriculars. Im also neurodivergent so some of these things are just general sensory and regulation things.
- Good insoles for high arches (helps foot and hip pain while at work)
- Boots with good ankle support and a little heal for additional arch support
- Compression wrist gloves (soooo good for typing pains)
- This is one that is alot harder to control but a comfortable car if you drive is a life saver. Even just getting seat attachments that have lower back support will help a lot
- A comfortable mattress pad helps so much with sleep and waking up less sore
- A massage gun for working out muscle knots helps a whole lot too
- This is less a gadget and more advice but telling people you need to sit down has actually changed my life. I sit down when I need to at my exclusively standing job because I talked to my boss and received an accommodation. Even if you’re undiagnosed but you have chronic pain I would still give this a try.
- CBD salve for aching muscles
- Overall wearing comfortable clothes is so helpful. It’s good for when I don’t have the energy to regulate myself through being In Pain and also uncomfortable clothes. I love long skirts and sweaters mostly because they are comfortable, movable, and keep me warm (or cool depending on the skirt and sweater)
- heating packs and Ice packs
- Electrolyte drink powder things. They help me stay hydrated and my muscles cramp a lot less when I’m well hydrated
- Epson salt bathes
- This is so subtle and weird but contacts rather than glasses because I don’t have to keep my face flexed and posed in order to keep my glasses up.
- Hip or thigh bag like a Fanny pack or a motorcycle riding bag!!! Helps so much with shoulder pain!
- I use an Xbox controller for all my gaming even on computer because it’s so much easier to grip and control than a keyboard.
- the last thing is blackout curtains. I don’t have any but I have friends who do and I sleep 10/10 with those baby’s pulled shut
Anyways that’s my guide to not dying with eds!! Obviously my mobility and pain level is unique and some people need different and more extensive mobility and pain management strategies than I do, but these things help a lot for a mostly mobile girl, who just has some pain!!

I know chemotherapy and radiation have helped many with cancer…I’ve also watched it suck the life out of many. Saw this today, and am reposting. I mean, what could it hurt to try these things prior to stepping into harsher treatments??
For anyone dealing with cancer, here are some things to consider:
*Avoid testing for the tumor. Tumors serve to protect the body by preventing cancer cells from spreading. Drilling them for a test can aggravate the situation by allowing the cells to migrate.
*Cancer starts with a parasite. Consider using Ivermectin and Fenbendazole to combat it.
*Cut back on the sugar. Sugar feeds cancer cells, so it is important to avoid all forms of sugar.
*Use hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). This compound contains an extra oxygen molecule that cancer cells do not tolerate. Apply it to skin with a cotton or toilet glove, especially after a bath or shower for better absorption.
*Drink Alkaline Water. Alkaline water, like lemon juice, helps balance the pH of the body, making it difficult for cancer cells to survive.
*Take a detox bath. Add baking soda, borax, Epsom salt and bentonite clay to a hot bath. It helps to remove toxins from the body.
*Consume vitamin B17, present in apple seeds and apricot seeds, this vitamin can help eliminate cancer cells. A little daily dose is all it takes.
*Fenbendazole: 222 mg per day
*Curcumin: Eat 600 mg of organic curcumin a day.
*CBD oil: Administer 25 mg of CBD oil sublingually under the tongue daily, preferably using high-purity CBD oil.
*Ivermectin: take 12 mg twice a day
*Vitamin E: 500 to 1000 mg per day.
*Vitamin C: 1000mg per day
These tips are alternatives to traditional treatments like chemotherapy and radiotherapy, often blamed for destroying healthy tissue. Before the advancements of the pharmaceutical industry, natural methods were successfully used to treat certain cancers.

if i were dying with cancer id rather live like this and try to combat it rather than have the life slowly sucked out of me and die anyway.

hi i was wondering if you or any of your followers had tips for dealing with chronic muscle pain (specifically hip and knee).
nothing i’ve tried has seemed to help (pt, otc pain meds, ice, heat, rest, acupuncture, cbd lotion, epson salt baths, stretching). and i’ve peen told that the only pain meds that would help would be narcotics (which i can’t take due to family).
also everybody has seemed to circle back to “it’s because of your mental health that everything is shit”. and doctors refuse to do any tests past moving my legs around and poking at them.
so i will try almost anything. thank you
i’m so sorry you’re dealing with this, i have chronic muscle pain & i know it can easily be so debilitating. regardless of whether there’s a relationship with stress or whatever, your physical symptoms should still be fucking treated! the abject cruelty of not managing your pain aside, it’s almost like it’s harder to handle mental experiences when you’re in pain all the time… you don’t deserve this bullshit & i’m really sorry 🖤
i am suspicious of your being told that only narcotics would help tbh — i don’t doubt that many folks need narcotics to effectively treat their pain, & opioids have definitely been the most effective treatment for me when i have access to them (although more for nerve stuff than muscle) but there are definitely medications you haven’t been offered yet that might be helpful.
idk if you suspect that your muscle pain may be related to chronic illness but my muscle pain (including what was dismissed as untreatable fibromyalgia symptoms) improved dramatically when i got on an immunosuppressant (hydroxychloroquine in my case). if you haven’t gotten a basic rheumatology blood panel done by your GP it could be worth a shot as my elevated inflammatory markers led to that prescription even though i’m definitely underdiagnosed.
i’m also like, really pissed nobody’s given you a muscle relaxer jesus christ. i’m on 4mg tizanidine from my PCP & it’s been immensely helpful for my muscle pain, i choose to take it probably once a week because it’s more effective at knocking me out all night that way lol but i also use it as a rescue medication when i’m having severe cramps. really helpful to just get a fucking break & some decent sleep every so often. in that thread i’m planning to ask about starting prazosin at my next appointment, it’s prescribed for nightmares (which i def have lol) but can prompt a certain level of muscle relaxation which is part of how it helps with sleep
idk if this is an option for you due to family etc but delta8 (weed equivalent that’s technically legal in the US) has been vital for managing my own pain. expensive as shit but so it goes.
idk if you already use a mobility aid or if that’s an option for you but it could be worth looking into! redirecting some of the force applied to your muscles might make things like walking easier or could help with balance if you experience sudden weakness / cramps.
super depends on your situation but it could be worth paying attention to your feet as well, getting plantar fasciitis house shoes vastly improved my knee-hip-back pain, knees in particular. mine was more joint related than muscular but from studying biomechanics it’s all interrelated & from my perspective anything that helps may make it a bit easier to keep going until you find a better long-term solution. so even if it doesn’t seem related to your pain if there’s anything that might make your life easier right now i encourage you to consider it!
other folks feel free to respond with things that have been effective for you! i really hope you find some solutions that make things more bearable for you 💓💓

-spinal decompression 2x a week for 3 months
-b12 injections 15 weeks
-acupuncture and cupping 1x a week for 7 months
-infrared, heating pad, going thru combos of 3 mattresses and 2 toppers, 12 pillows, localized electrocution, vibration overstimmulation
-lidocane, cbd, salt baths, icy hot, biofreeze, capsasin patches, car seat warmer always ON, back brace, shiatsu massage sleeves
-tumeric spirulina in raw juiced fruits and vegs, lions mane, tiny nerve health tablets i cant remember the name of, cbd drinks before california commercially banned them, NO processed sugar and coffee, megateas,
-ketamine, gabapentin, ibuprofen, tpis, shrooms, vitamin d2
-insane amounts of gym time (2-5 hour sessions) working on lower body, biking, lpw impact rowing, desperately trying to jog or run when my nerves would respond fast enough to let my legs do it, swimming, exercise ball, massages, massage gun, foam roller, hydromassage, having a fucking personal trainer wring me out like a towel and quarter me like a dark age torture victim
-i had a phase of going on 20 roller coasters twice a month bc i could feel my feet when i was on them i was convinced i could use gravity to mass load neurons and chemicals into broke ass nerves
so all of that to end up with repaired and fully functioning nerves BUT i still have symptoms and disability because i have radiculopathy from DDD and it presents EXACTLY THE SAME IN MY BODY
buneomalo im still having to do the same old shit either way
tdlr; cured one neuro condition still have another and desperately open to suggestions and reccomendations to help compressed nerves in spinal chord

Is CBD Oil Safe and Worth Your Money?
A medical cannabis expert weeds the hype from the truth about the herbal cure for pain, depression, anxiety and insomnia.
You can’t turn on a daytime TV program or flip open a lifestyle magazine without hearing or reading about CBD, short for cannabidiol. It’s the biggest buzzword in holistic health news, and statistically speaking, it is expected to reach around 1.8 billion dollars in U.S. consumer sales by 2022, a whopping increase from around half a billion dollars in 2018.
What exactly is CBD?
CBD is the non-intoxicating component of the cannabis sativa plant. Cannabis plants can either be classified as hemp or marijuana depending on the quantity or percentage of THC in either plant. This distinction was established by the FDA: Cannabis plants with 0.3 percent or less of THC are considered hemp and those with more that 0.3 percent are consider marijuana.
So in a nutshell, CBD that is derived from hemp will not make you high. You should also ask your primary physician about using CBD while taking medications.
Kisha Vanterpool, medical director of Medicinally Jointed, a medical cannabis spa and alternate health practice located in South Philadelphia, says the biggest misconception her patients have is understanding the difference between CBD and THC.
“Some associate CBD solely with cannabis (marijuana) which carries its own stigma of being used to attain a high,” the board-certified internist explains. “But really, cannabis is an herbal medicine that has many benefits. Through educating my patients around the plant as medicine and how it interacts within our bodies, patients then become more open to its use.”
What is CBD used for?
Studies show consumers are using CBD — sold in oils, lotions, balms, bath salts, coffee, oral sprays and gummies — as a specific therapy for pain, anxiety, depression and sleep disorders. Depending on the product, prices range from $20 to $100.
Nira Hyman turned to CBD three years ago to help manage chronic back pain and joint inflammation she’s endured for about 15 years. The 46-year-old was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, a type of rheumatoid arthritis called ankylosing spondylitis, which affects the spine.
“Chronic pain is quite isolating, so I’m open to trying almost anything. My research led me to THC, then to CBD. It helps mute the pain. It’s still there, but the volume of the pain is dialed down. CBD doesn’t manage my pain on its own, but using that along with other stuff on my regimen can make a difference,” she says.
“Most of what I use is handmade. It’s expensive but worth it. Friends ship balms or soaks to me. And yes, the sellers are Black. I believe strongly that Black women belong in the cannabis industry, so the louder our voices the better.”
The Brooklyn, New York, native also uses CBD to alleviate anxiety. “It may be a placebo effect, but I do feel it helps my anxiety. And I prefer using something that’s natural and naturally medicinal. I’d much rather take CBD — and I do use high doses — than opioids. My doctors agree, off the record,” says Hyman.
Vanterpool recommends CBD to her female patients to help them with anxiety, insomnia, hot flashes, menstrual cramps, endometriosis and other chronic pain. When shopping for CBD products, she suggests consumers research the product “to ensure that it truly contains CBD and has been tested for contaminants such as pesticides, bacteria and fungus/mold.”
Is CBD FDA-regulated?
Not currently. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently published a consumer update on its website (FDA.gov) that addresses the claims that cannabinoid (CBD) is a cure-all, risk-free miracle drug.
Although the FDA is presently gathering data from health professionals, cannabis industry representatives and patients to learn more about the efficacy of CBD, the agency wrote, "there are many unanswered questions about the science, safety and quality of products containing CBD.”
Where can I find CBD products in my area, and is it legal in all fifty states?
Remember the 69-year-old grandmother from North Carolina who was arrested at Disney World for packing CBD oil in her purse?
Federal law says CBD oil products are legal to possess if they contain no more than 0.3 percent THC, and CBD products are readily available online. Do your research to find products that are safe, effective and legal. Consumerreports.org has an informative guide. Be aware, however, that some states like Florida, Ohio and Texas generally don’t differentiate hemp from marijuana. So before you purchase or travel with CBD, check the state laws.
