Can we take a moment to talk about that generation that consisted mainly of the grandchildren of Finwë?

I mean, look at this:

Dead, Good as Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Only Alive Because Her Family Had the Presence of Mind to Stop Her, Dead, Dead, Dead, Survived.

Galadriel really was the only one who survived.

And this hits me hard when I think about it.

Because a writer puts a bit of themselves in every character.

The part of Tolkien that I see the most in Galadriel is the part of him that survived the war.

After all, he was part of the Lost Generation. Two of his closest friends—Robert Gilson and Geoffrey Smith—died in the war. Tolkien and Christopher Wiseman were the only two of their fellowship to survive.

Only Galadriel survived.

That was what the Grandchildren of Finwë were. They were the Lost Generation. An entire generation slaughtered.

The regret, the lamentation, the grief. Galadriel knew it well. She lived it because Tolkien lived it.

And I don't know why, but for some reason, this speaks to me louder than any history book ever has.

mindless and bloodthirsty Celegorm yes, but what about pre-darkening Tyelkormo, effortlessly charming, with an easy joke always on the tip of his tongue; quick to anger and hold a grudge, but just as quick to burst into warm laughter. So deeply in tune with nature he radiates a certain kind of ancient wisdom. Heavy gaze and a smug, charming smile. He speaks bluntly and harshly and yet with purpose, so his words land heavy, for better or worse

With Celegorm being so fair, I should like to imagine that it only made the blood he spilt stand out more...

It has been a while since I have done a proper rendered portrait, and this just sparked something within me. I do not see enough art of the Feanorians that shows off how terrifying they are, so I set out on that task myself.

Huan headcanon:

The hunting hounds of Oromë are just regular-dog sized. None except for Huan are "as large as a small horse."

Oromë let Celegorm have his pick of the litter, and young Turko picked the runt, Huan, whom the Maiar of the Hunt had already written off as a lost cause.

But Turko loved Huan so, so, so much. And the little dog grew bigger and stronger than all the other dogs, nurtured by this love.

In conclusion:

Huan is Clifford, the Big Red Dog of Valinor. ❤️

He definitely got made fun of for it by the whole House. Caranthir loved to tell him he was actually a son of Finarfin and they just replaced him with Artanis.

Celegorm put up with this for centuries.

yeah you’re totally right. him having blonde hair was some kind of prank the valar pulled just to make him more susceptible to bullying. eru knew he was gonna be a piece of shit and said “hey let’s make this guy blonde” to top it all off. caranthir hit him over the head with the adopted jokes eternally. even feanor laughed occasionally. there was no respite from the dumb blonde accusations, probably why he ended up like that

an attempt at drawing almost every named character in the silmarillion (minus a bunch of Men characters bc i didnt have designs for them, as well as assorted minor elves like salgant or elenmire + the valar and most maiar cuz im still redesigning them) 😙

been really busy these past months but i worked on this on and off in-between (you can see a process gif here!!). since ive got a bit of free time for now, ill try to get back to being more active :D sorry for disappearing out of the blue again but happy almost half a year... wait wdym we're almost halfway through 2025 already...?!?!
