HOW TO ENSURE YOUR WEBSITE IS SECURE
Every day, millions of users’ information is exposed over the internet to the nefarious activities of hackers, ranging from credit card information or customer email IDs to passwords and personal profiles or pictures. Regardless of the size or type of website you have, whether it’s a small innocuous blogs that shares helpful tips, or a large e-commerce store, security should be your topmost priority. As a webmaster, nothing is more terrifying than the thought of seeing your content altered or losing access to your own account, all because some villainous hacker is somewhere plotting your downfall. In worst cases, you may just fold your arms and watch everything you have worked for over the years get completely wiped out; why? Because your website was never secured in the first place. Although hackers are dangerous, you don’t need to be scared of them. It’s not all doom and gloom out there on the Web. There are certain things you can do as a webmaster to ensure your website is secure and well protected from malicious attack.
When every other thing fails, a personal backup of all your files might just be your saving grace. While it is possible to establish a nearly “perfect” security network, there is no gainsaying that even the most secured websites can be hacked in a matter of minutes. The truth is that no security system, no matter how sophisticated, is without its flaws, howbeit small. An experienced hacker doesn’t necessarily need a large security loophole to attack your system; just that small flaw is enough. The earlier you learn to backup your files, the better for you. At least, you will have something to start with when the worst happens.
Whether you are using WordPress, Drupal, or any other third-party installations or plugins, One of the best protection you can set up for your website is to make sure all these scripts or platforms are up to date. In today’s world of open source, outdated scripts can be easily hijackers by hackers for malicious use.
While SSL might not solve all your security issues, it serves as a form of guarantee for users that your website is secure. SSL is very important especially for a site that handles a lot of confidential information like credit card details, passwords, or email IDs. It ensures this information are securely sent or received by encrypting them.
Make sure you use passwords to protect users’ accounts on your site. Strong passwords can serve as the strongest defense against brute force attacks by hackers. Avoid using simple passwords like “123456”. Instead combine numbers, numerals, letters and symbols. Make your passwords impossible for hackers to decipher.
