There is so much moving image work being produced - partly due to changes in technology that make film-making much quicker and cheapert. Over 900 films were released into UK cinemas last year. There are thousands of films that don’t get a conventional cinema release at all. Just a few years ago, the traditional cinema release day, there would be maybe 3 or 4 cinema releases per week in the UK.
As mainstream cinema takes fewer risks, film festivals often act as an alternative distribution network. We are in the age of the blockbuster (Bond, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and comic book franchises). More people might be going to the cinema but it is more people watching the same films. Despite there being more of everything, there often seems to be less choice.
it is the festival experience itself that seems to matter more and more. the special one-off quality of ‘event cinema’ and the opportunities for social interaction - the simple pleasure of watching films with an audience, having a drink and a chat and perhaps meeting visiting film-makers. This is not of course confined to cinema but is part of a wider cultural phenomenon, part of the ‘experience economy’.

I really wanna invest in a redbubble and/or an esty shop over the summer...
#idk how much interest there'd be but I think it'd be nice?#i also might have a plush commission pending#like a straight up commission#i need to work out the deets but#//sips water and sweats#i might be undercharging them since the quote i gave was for 35 + shipping but#i think thats alright until i feel more comfortable with my work#it was like 20-25 plus fabric plus shipping#or maybe it was 15 plus fabric? I think i charged more than that though#which i suppose in todays economy isnt really saying much since you can get a non-custom plush from the store for $10 minimum but#some day im gonna offer commissions for more probably#but private commissions amongst friends are fine to be cheapert#stormy speaks
