Kai Havertz may have played his final game for Bayer Leverkusen as Chelsea close in on a move (EPA)Bayer Leverkusen’s head coach Peter Bosz joked about the future of Chelsea target Kai Havertz after his side’s defeat to Inter in the Europa League on Monday evening. Leverkusen’s extended season is now over after they were dumped out of the Europa League following a 2-1 loss to Antonio Conte’s side. Nicolo Barella and Romelu Lukaku gave Inter a commanding lead and while Havertz pulled a goal back for Leverkusen before half time, the Bundesliga side could not find an equaliser. Leverkusen’s exit in Europe could now pave the way for Havertz to complete his move to Chelsea this summer. The 21-year-old is one of Chelsea’s top targets and reports have claimed that Frank Lampard has already held talks with the midfielder about his move to Stamford Bridge. Havertz has reportedly agreed a five-year contract with Chelsea, while the club have indicated that they are willing to meet Leverkusen’s €100 million (£89.8m) asking price. Chelsea have reportedly opened talks with Bayer Leverkusen for Kai Havertz (Getty Images)Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Voller insists the club have not given up hope of keeping Kai Havertz after Chelsea opened talks to sign the midfielder. Acording to reports on Tuesday, Frank Lampard’s side have begun negotiations with Leverkusen over a potential deal for the 20-year-old this summer. Havertz is widely regarded as one of the best young midfielders in Europe and has attracted strong interest from both Manchester United and Liverpool, as well as Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, when asked about Havertz’s situation on Tuesday evening, Voller claimed that Leverkusen are ‘in a good position’ and predicted that speculation will increase ‘if he plays like this now’. ‘We haven’t given up hope that he’ll stay with us,’ Voller told ARD. ‘We try to give him every possibility that he can call up his qualities. Robbie Fowler has reacted to Chelsea’s imminent deal for Liverpool target Timo Werner (Pictures: Getty)Robbie Fowler believes Chelsea securing a transfer deal for Timo Werner would be a blessing in disguise for Jurgen Klopp as the Germany striker is not good enough for Liverpool. Frank Lampard’s Blues have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Werner from RB Leipzig, with the 24-year-old set to sign a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge worth £200,000-a-week. Werner has developed into one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe over the past three seasons, netting 92 goals in 155 matches for Leipzig. But Liverpool hero Fowler believes there are major ‘doubts’ over Werner as a player and says he is ‘not worth the fuss’. ‘I’ve heard the noise surrounding Timo Werner in recent weeks – but I’m not a big fan,’ the former Reds and England striker told MirrorSport. ‘I realise he’s a talented player, he has moments of real brilliance in matches that underline his quality. ‘But I stand by this: is Werner up to the standard of Liverpool’s current front three? Not for me. Werner has thrived for RB Leipzig and Germany (Picture: Getty)‘And, obviously, my opinion will be put to the test next season if he does complete a move to Chelsea.’ Fowler added: ‘I’ve also seen the meltdown from some Liverpool fans when they realised he’s probably not leaving RB Leipzig for Anfield after all. ‘It makes it seem as though he’s a Marco van Basten, a world-class player who would walk into any side. ‘For the life of me, I don’t know why. I’ve watched him a fair few times and there are things about his game I like and admire. Klopp missed out on Werner (Picture: Getty)Jurgen Klopp described Chelsea-bound Timo Werner as a ‘great player’ but admitted it could be a quiet transfer window for Liverpool amid the coronavirus pandemic. Liverpool were thought to be the favourites to land the Germany international but Chelsea are set to trigger his release clause after agreeing personal terms. Klopp reportedly called Werner to deliver the news that Liverpool would not be able to trigger his £53million release clause, leaving Chelsea clear to sign him. And while he clearly rates Werner, it appears his hands are tied over transfers this summer. ‘There are a lot of good players on this planet,’ Klopp toldSky Germany. ‘Timo Werner is a great player, Kai Havertz is a great player. ‘There are all sorts of rumours in England about who Manchester United are going to pick, Chelsea are going to pick. Timo Werner looks set for a move to Chelsea this summer (Picture: Getty)Steve Nicol has accused Liverpool of ‘slipping up’ after Timo Werner reportedly agreed a deal in principle to join Chelsea in the summer transfer window. Werner and Jurgen Klopp have traded numerous compliments over recent weeks and months and the 24-year-old Leipzig striker appeared destined to join his fellow countryman on Merseyside after the pair held a virtual meeting during lockdown. However, widespread reports in Germany and England claim Werner has verbally agreed a switch to Stamford Bridge after Chelsea offered to make him one of the highest paid players in their history with wages of £200,000-a-week. Jurgen Klopp held a virtual meeting with the Germany striker (Picture: Getty)Liverpool legend Nicol believes his former club have made a grave ‘mistake’ missing out on Werner as the forward would have been the perfect player to come in and put pressure on Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. Reacting to the rumours on ESPN, he said said: ‘I think it is [a mistake], yes. Regardless of how good you are, you have to make sure you stay where you are at the very least. ‘That means you need competition for places. ‘No question, Werner would have given the front three – as great as they are and have been – it would have kept them on their toes. ‘The front three of Liverpool can now breathe a little easier.’ MORE: CHELSEA FC How Leicester chiefs reacted to Chelsea's Ben Chilwell plans following Timo Werner captureHow Petr Cech helped Chelsea beat Man Utd and Liverpool to Timo Werner transferLiverpool legend John Barnes reacts to Chelsea's transfer deal for Timo WernerNicol reckons Chelsea ramping up their interest in Werner may have forced the Germany international to reconsider his future. ‘I think Liverpool have slipped up here,’ he added. ‘Saying that, I wouldn’t be surprised if Werner had something to do with this. ‘At the end of the day, if you want to go somewhere you can make it happen. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Petr Cech were team-mates for 18 months at Arsenal (Picture: Getty)Chelsea look to have won the race for Timo Werner’s signature this summer after agreeing a deal in principle with the sought-after Leipzig star, but the German was by no means the only striker on the club’s radar in recent months. Frank Lampard appears intent on making up for lost time after Chelsea’s transfer ban prohibited him from bringing in any reinforcements last summer and the Blues flew out of the blocks by wrapping up a £36million agreement for Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech back in February. Chelsea have made it clear they will release the necessary funds for Lampard to bolster his squad to get the club back among the elite of English football and Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell will be their next priority once Werner’s move is finalised. Cech and Lampard were both keen on signing Aubameyang in January (Picture: Getty)According to The Athletic, Chelsea have been intent on revamping their frontline for some time and strongly considered a bid to sign Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang towards the end of the January transfer window. Lampard is keen to ease the pressure on Tammy Abraham and Aubameyang’s experience and proven goalscoring record in the Premier League was hugely appealing to the Chelsea head coach. The report claims Chelsea legend Petr Cech, now technical and performance advisor at Stamford Bridge, also approved a move for Aubameyang over the winter. Cech has a close relationship with Aubameyang after sharing a dressing room with the Gabon international for 18 months at the Emirates and greatly admires his work ethic and professionalism. However, Arsenal were not prepared to part with their talisman midway through the campaign and the north London outfit must now decide whether to sell him this summer or risk losing him on a free transfer in 12 months’ time. Timo Werner has verbally agreed a deal with Chelsea (Picture: Getty)Earlier this week, Jamie Carragher claimed that Aubameyang was ‘too good’ for Arsenal but urged Mikel Arteta to do everything in his power to keep hold of the striker beyond the summer. ‘It’s interesting because Liverpool were in the same situation as Arsenal towards the end of my career when you’re just missing out on the top-four,’ the former Liverpool and England defender said on Sky Sports. ‘It’s okay to have rules like “we never let a player go on a Bosman ruling”, but if you’re Mikel Arteta, have you got more chance of getting back in the Champions League if he stays? ‘That’s the decision they have to make. At this stage, there’s no doubt that Aubameyang is too good for Arsenal. We had that at Liverpool with Luis Suarez and certain other players. Aubameyang becomes a free agent in 2021 (Picture: Getty)‘You’re desperate to keep hold of them because you want to build around those players. If they go you feel like you’re starting all over again. ‘That will be a decision for them. It’s okay saying “if he doesn’t want to be there, let him go”. But it’s not as easy when you’re at that club and you have a player of such star quality who will be there or thereabouts for the Golden Boot every year. ‘It’s not easy to find goalscorers so I’d keep Aubameyang and see what you can do, see if you can bring players in around him and hopefully have a successful season and convince him to stay over the next 12 months. ‘If not, it still gives Arsenal a greater chance of getting back in the top-four and that’s where they need to be.’ MORE: ARSENAL FC Free-to-air Premier League fixtures on BBC, Sky Sports and AmazonPetr Cech approved Chelsea transfer move for Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick AubameyangPremier League TV schedule: Fixtures on BBC, Sky, BT Sport and AmazonGary Neville accused Arsenal of making an enormous mistake by failing to tie Aubameyang down with a long-term contract when he joined the club in 2018. He said: ‘Was he only given a three-year contract to start with? That’s the strange thing for me. ‘If you pay £60m for someone, to have him leaving or in a position to leave… Arsenal find themselves in this position far too often ‘I think a three-year deal for a player who cost £60 million… you’d at least want that fourth year so you can at least control him if he does well for the first two seasons. ‘That’s the mistake that was made on day one.’ Follow Metro Sport across our social channels, on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. David Luiz says he immediately felt the pressure after joining Arsenal (Getty Images)David Luiz admits he was left questioning his move to Arsenal shortly after his surprise switch from Chelsea last summer. The 32-year-old joined the Gunners in an £8 million deal last August, but following a poor start to the campaign under Unai Emery, Luiz admits he ‘often wondered why the decision was made’. Luiz also concedes that he was fully aware of the pressure put on him to immediately improve Arsenal’s defence and says it was ‘difficult’ to see Chelsea fans being unhappy with his decision to leave. ‘I was always very happy at Chelsea. And then the understanding of knowing that my cycle was over, even though I thought it wasn’t going to end that way, in a quick decision,’ Luiz told ESPN Brasil. ‘I decided to leave Chelsea before I even had my doors open at Arsenal. Chelsea are unwilling to break the bank on a deal for Man Utd target Jadon Sancho (Picture: Getty)Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho with Chelsea cooling their interest in the England ace due to Borussia Dortmund’s £100m valuation. Premier League rivals United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City have all been linked with summer moves for Sancho, who has scored 18 goals and made 15 assists in 43 appearances this season. The 19-year-old has developed into one of the most exciting talents in world football since joining Dortmund from Manchester City in 2017 and has also become a regular for England. Manchester United have long been linked with a move for Sancho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants the Red Devils to sign at least two forwards at the end of the season. Ed Woodward was expected to face competition from Chelsea, Liverpool and City in the battle to sign Sancho but one of United’s rivals have reportedly withdrawn from the race. The Daily Stay say Chelsea have no intention of meeting Dortmund’s £100m asking price for Sancho, particularly after reaching an agreement to sign Hakim Ziyech from Ajax. It was confirmed on Thursday that Chelsea were set to bring Ziyech to Stamford Bridge in a deal costing the Blues around £37m. Chelsea’s hands are tied in regards to signing new players this summer due to the well-publicized two-window transfer ban. As such, today’s transfer roundup is dominated by outgoings. We bring you news of a confirmed exit and two potential deals for star youngsters. Sarri moves to Juve It had been in the works for a while, but Maurizio Sarri has finally completed his move to Juventus. The Italian will move to the Serie A champions on a three-year deal, with the two clubs having agreed a compensation package in excess of £5m. Frank Lampard is to be approached for talks. Abraham could return to Villa Striker Tammy Abraham has left the door open to a return to Aston Villa this summer. The 21-year-old told Sky Sports, “You can never say never. Chelsea is obviously the club that I have been at since a young so the aim is to try and breakthrough there. Like I say, you can never say never. We’ll see how things look.” Abraham scored 26 goals on loan at Villa Park last campaign. Exit for Martell Taylor-Crossdale Chelsea youngster Martell Taylor-Crossdale is set to join Hoffenheim according to Sky Sports. The 19-year-old is out of contract this summer and, whilst the Blues made an offer to keep him, the England U20 international has decided to move to the Bundesliga on a free transfer. #FrankLampard #PremierLeague #ChelseaTransfer

A quiet summer is expected at Stamford Bridge, at least in terms of new arrivals to the playing staff. There will more than likely be some movement in the dugout, with Maurizio Sarri’s tenure reportedly coming to an end. Today’s Chelsea transfer roundup includes an update on the managerial position, a new contract for a young star and one player’s comments on a rumoured move. Lampard contact According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have made contact with Derby County over a potential move for former player Frank Lampard. He spent 13 years at Stamford Bridge and is the club’s record goalscorer and, as such, it would be an emotional return to west London for the former West Ham man. It’s claimed talks have already taken place between Lampard and his former club. Hudson-Odoi contract condition Callum Hudson-Odoi will sign a new contract with the Blues, but only if he can get assurances that he will get enough game time according to the Sun. The 18-year-old was a former transfer target for Bayern Munich, but he will stay as long as he plays regularly. He is currently out injured with a ruptured Achilles tendon. Emerson responds to Juve rumours Despite rumours of a move to Juventus, left-back Emerson is happy at Stamford Bridge. “I have a contract with Chelsea and I am happy there, especially after the Europa League [victory]”, he said after Italy’s 2-1 win over Bosnia on Tuesday night. The 24-year-old also added he is yet to receive any offers from the Italian side. #ChelseaTransfer #ChelseaTransferRoundup #DerbyCounty
