Midnight Pals: Far From Streets

Michael Griffin: Submitted for the approval of the midnight society, i call this the tale of being far from streets Griffin: it's about this couple who build a nice relaxing vacation house Griffin: deep in the forest primeval Barker: oh shit yeah that's where you do it ha ha

Griffin: the guy is all, i'm gonna build this cabin with my own two hands Griffin: get in touch with my provider archetype Griffin: really get all iron john with it Griffin: the wife is all "whatever, man" Patricia Highsmith: ain't that just like a dame

Griffin: now of course once they build the cabin Griffin: strange things start happening here in the deep words Griffin: as you would expect Griffin: strange things that portend the unsettling nature of reality but don't actually connect to one another in a cohesive way

Griffin: for example, they catch a weird-looking fish in the creek King: a weird looking fish? Griffin: yeah a weird looking fish King: what's so weird about it? Griffin: oh you know it's just kinda weird looking in a general way Griffin: anyway, moving on King: wait come on you can't just move on

King: you can't just say that they caught a weird looking fish and move on like that Poe: yeah michael we kind of need closure on this fish Griffin: why? it's just a fish Griffin: just a perfectly ordinary fish King: Poe: Koontz: Barker: Lovecraft: Griffin: it just looks a little weird

Griffin: it's just a fish Lovecraft: [sweats] Griffin: sure, maybe it looks a little weird Lovecraft: [sweating intensifies] Griffin: maybe a little unappetizing Griffin: but at the end of the day, it's just a fish right? Lovecraft: [vibrating] i can't take this anymore

Lovecraft: stop it! you know how i feel about fish! Barker: oh yeah howard doesn't like fish John Langan: [wearing rubber waders and bucket hat] did someone say fish?!? Barker: but john loves fish Langan: you know what i always say Langan: a bad day fishing is better than a good day at the office!!

Griffin: the fish, however, is only one weird thing that happens Griffin: just things are weird in general King: how are things weird? Griffin: oh you know just a general kind of weirdness

Griffin: things are so weird that it makes the guy get real reflective Griffin: he's really getting real philosophical about the nature of life Griffin: like how does this cabin he built reflect his dissatisfaction with reality Griffin: getting real thinky about it Griffin: being middle aged is hard

King: see, this sort of thing always happens when people vacation in the woods Barker: couldn't be me Barker: if the isolation of the woods started to make me lose my grip on reality, i would simply leave the woods Griffin: oh you would, would you, smart guy?

Griffin: think you could just leave the woods? think it's that easy, huh? Barker: it's incredibly easy Griffin: maybe leaving the woods isn't as easy as you think Griffin: maybe even after you leave the woods, you still haven't left the woods King: whoa, that's kinda heavy!
