Áine, Celtic Goddess
Water had a special magic for the Celts as a symbol of vitality and inspiration. The fact that it could capture lights (for example, a reflection of the setting sun) could not be rationally explained and was taken as proof of supernatural properties. Wells and springs were charged with magic powers. Lakes and rivers were the dwelling-places of otherworldly beings, like the Lady of the Lake in…

A River Runs Deep-A poem about the Shannon
Nothing can stop you, no matter what. Your beauty is breathtaking, but there is a dark side too. Some are in awe, when they look at your majestic flow towards the ocean. They try to comprehend the power you possess. Other realize that power and know that it can bring life and also end it. It is an option so often contemplated. Just one jump and that’s it, never to be seen alive again. A river…

It's Raining Men, Kinda
So, John went with Sherlock to Pride. They saw a gay bar, went inside. "Please help, we've been robbed!" The bartender sobbed. Saw men hit the floor, try to hide.
Said Sherlock, "So where is the thief? I'm sure we can bring you relief. I was just getting bored, But your patrons are floored ... It's quite a good view down there, Chief."
The bartender said, "They went back To the alleyway! Past the wine rack!" John sprang forth to run, While palming his gun. Sherlock, standing firm, said "You hack."
"Just who do you think you are fooling? I'm Sherlock Holmes, man, and you're spooling Out lies. You're the one Who is grabbing a ton Of cash, and the barman's down, drooling."
Caught out, the thief ran for the door, John caught and bore him to the floor. That's one more man down! In this part of town, It never rains when it can pour.

haha starlight express oc go chuggachuggachuggachuggachuggachugga
her lore is that she used to be part of a circus train until they replaced her with a new car
her job was to transport the animals
but now shes sort of just here. on the yard. and she feels kinda lost cuz she feels like she doesnt really fit in with the others
she's a freight car but she knows she wouldnt really belong on the freight train
she tries to talk to the coaches but again she isnt like them because well. freight. but i think they would like her pretty lights and cute kitty
she has considered getting herself repurposed but doesnt want to let go of herself
but its okay she has two entire friends (rusty & dustin) and she has momma (or poppa) and she has peanut (he is her cat)
but she still feels sad and alone
she is quite literally a poor little meow meow born in a wet cardboard box all alone
shes sort of friends with flat-top in the sense that his way of comforting her is him saying "right up you get we're gonna need your help with this 'cos we've got the weight of a hundred flippin' elephants to carry around today"
rusty tells her that she should just stay true to herself and not care about what others think
she would try to open up but then accidentally speak in a limerick or something

Ardagh Chalice
The Ardagh Chalice is one of the greatest treasures of the early Irish Church. It is part of a hoard of objects found in the 19th century by a young man digging for potatoes near Ardagh, Co. Limerick. It was used for dispensing Eucharistic wine during the celebration of Mass. The form of the chalice recalls late Roman tableware, but the method of construction is Irish.
The bowl and foot of the chalice are made of spun silver. The outer side of the bowl is decorated with applied gold, silver, glass, amber and enamel ornament. The underside of the foot is also highly decorated and contains a polished rock crystal at the centre.
The bowl is attached to the stem and foot by a bronze pin. The names of eleven apostles and St. Paul are inscribed below the band of gold filigree and studs encircling the bowl. The letters are seen against a stippled background. Incised animal decoration can also be seen below two handle escutcheons, which are decorated with elaborate glass studs and filigree panels.
The Ardagh Chalice represents a high point in early medieval craftsmanship and can be compared in this regard to the Tara Brooch and the Derrynaflan Paten.

#OTD in Irish History | 17 May:
1650 – Oliver Cromwell’s army is defeated in the second assault on Clonmel, suffering its heaviest losses. The following day, the Mayor of Clonmel negotiates honourable terms for surrender with Cromwell, who did not realise that O’Neill and his soldiers had left the town. Annoyed at being outwitted, Cromwell nevertheless keeps to the terms. 1730 – Elizabeth, widow of William Molyneux, marries…

"The last night of the old year was known in Irish as Oíche na Coda Móire -- The Night of the Big Portion -- because of the belief that a big supper on this night ensured full and plenty for the year to come. No food should be taken out of the house on New Year's Eve. On any other night of the year a hungry traveler or homeless waif might expect hospitality as a matter of course, but on this night food and drink were given grudgingly, if at all. It was better not to ask.
This custom went back to the time when the success or failure of the crops meant all the difference between famine and plenty. Spells and incantations were invoked to guard against the danger. It was customary of the woman of the house in many parts of the country to bake a large barm brack on New Year's Eve.
As night approached the man of the house took three bites out of the cake and dashed it against the front door in the name of the Holy Trinity, expressing the pious hope that starvation might be banished from Ireland...
After the ceremony of banishment was over the fragments of the cake were gathered up an eaten by the family. In Imokilly, Co. Cork, they had a custom that the crumbs were thrown at the door and windows to prove that no one inside was hungry.
A rather more pleasing version of this custom from west Limerick is given by Kevin Danaher in The Year in Ireland. The door was struck three times with a large cake while the head of the household recite...
'Happiness in and misfortune out, From tonight to this night twelve months, In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen' Church bells ringing, hooters hooting, bonfires burning, people joining hands at midnight and singing 'Auld Lang Syne' -- these are now the customary ways to welcome the New Year..."

The Other Side is ... Fandom?
There once was a lively dead chicken. For all things Sherlock she did quicken! She rhymed silly jokes To cheer up some folks; Rhymed angst when she felt rather stricken. For Sherlock and Co she did crave, And for BBC Lock she would rave! Granada was fine, ACD's the baseline, But it's fanfiction that was her fave. :)
