From time to time, I happen to stumble upon a cute title that hides an actual serious gameplay under its “childish” appearance. This is definitely the case of Shu, developed by Coatsink Software, who are deeply influenced by Ubisoft’s platformer Rayman and other similar titles.
It is during time of festivities that Shu – our birdlike hero – witnessed his village get destroyed by the “Storm”, a black and destructive entity that devours everything in its path. With the small city swept, even with their elder’s effort to stop it, Shu then goes in search of a way to stop it before it devours the entire world, while saving his townsfolk on the way.
In practice, Shu is a platform game in which our little hero with the same name is only able to jump and glide for a short moment of time. Your reflexes will be put to the test while you rush through levels or escape a storm while saving your companions. On the way, you will be able to pick up small butterflies, mainly for those that are collectionist, as they are needed to finish a level 100%. That’s on top of hidden art fragments, little egg-chick kids, and two allied companions per world.
Each new companion has a skill necessary for you to progress in the levels. One will allow you to double jump, activate specific mechanisms, break things, and even slow down time. It will thus be necessary to memorize the possibilities offered, so you can pass all obstacles, especially when, in the middle of each world’s second level, the Storm begins to rush at you.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
In these moments, needless to say that every second counts, and the margin for error is almost null. It’s up to you to jump and use your skills at the best time so you do not end up consumed by your arch nemesis. There’s also several ways to play the game, with a time-trial mode unlocked once each level is finished, but also exploring the few secondary stages to find various hidden objects, and the crazy challenge of finishing a level without dying.
Fortunately, there’s couple of checkpoints scattered around each level, with the ability to retry up to 5 times, and hopefully finish the level. Trust me, it’s easier than it seems, as I had one hell of a headache in the final level, a nightmare of perfectionism in platforming, calling for you full concentration, abusing every mechanics you learned in the game.
Graphically speaking, Shu it’s quite a colorful canvas, full of life in the background, supported by a soundtrack that knows when to be subtle or cataclysmic, as it adapts to the scene. I will note that there’s some small flaws, such as the glare that can take over the screen when the Storm begins to pursue you, which turns the game illegible for short period of time. The latter can often be fatal when it occurs just before a large jump, or even precise platforming sequences.
Shu was reviewed using a Nintendo Switch downloadable code provided by Coatsink Software. The game is also available on PlayStation 4 and PC in digital releases. We don’t discuss review scores with publishers or developers prior to the review being published.
Heavily influenced by Michel Ancel's work, Shu is an adorable platformer that is worth your time. From time to time, I happen to stumble upon a cute title that hides an actual serious gameplay under its "childish" appearance.

Shu Review
Ever read up on the story of the inception of Dennis the Menace? It’s totally wild how two different people, who had never met, launched two different comics with completely different tones and protagonists on the same day and called both Dennis the Menace. It’s the world of coincidence, and, believe it or not, it exists in many forms. When it happens in gaming, many critics (ok, critical…

The 10 Games You Should be Playing on Oculus Go This Weekend
On Tuesday Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement all Oculus fans wanted to hear, the launch date for the company’s new standalone headset Oculus Go. It happened that very day, with consumers in 23 countries around the world able to order the device from Oculus.com for $199 USD (32GB model) or $249 (64GB) model), or for those in the US at locations like Best Buy. Whether you’re planning on picking one up, you’ve ordered one, or already own one, here are VRFocus’ top videogames you should consider downloading first.
Thanks to Oculus Go‘s integration with Oculus’ Mobile SDK there’s a massive range of Samsung Gear VR content available, so below you’ll find a mixture of new titles for the headset as well as some old school Gear VR favourites that shouldn’t be missed.
They Suspect Nothing
When it comes to mobile virtual reality (VR) titles British developer Coatsink Software is well versed in this category, having created Esper, Esper 2, A Night Sky and Augmented Empire for Gear VR. For it’s first outing on Oculus Go the team has created a mini-game mashup involving robots in a world devoid of humans. You have to perform various tasks to prove your not a human, completing games against the clock to score as many points as possible.
Anshar Online
VRFocus got a brief taste of Anshar Online when Oculus first demoed the standalone headset at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2018, instantly impressing. A followup to the highly popular and well received Anshar Wars 2 for Gear VR, Anshar Online goes even bigger and better than before, offering rich visuals, and more than 50 missions that can now be played in teams of five.
Dead Secret Circle
Another sequel, Dead Secret Circle continues Robot Invaders’ story from the original Dead Secret. For players after a more intense gameplay experience involving scary moments and lots of puzzles, Dead Secret Circle takes place in 1970s Chicago with you playing investigator called Patricia Gable who’s on the hunt for a serial killer called The Laughing Man who seems to be able to enter people’s dreams.
B-Team
Adding to the list of new titles launched for Oculus Go this week is B-Team. This on-rails first-person shooter (FPS) involves an alien invasion, plenty of guns and lots of carnage and explosions along the way. Published by Oculus Studios and developed Wilson’s Heart studio Twisted Pixel Games, B-Team is ideal for those after some instant action gratification.
République VR
One of the bigger adventures on this this list, République VR is another Oculus Go launch day title. It’s stealth-action videogame that explores the perils of government surveillance in the internet age. With over 10 hours of gameplay,  République VR has players controlling the fortunes of Hope, a woman trapped inside a mysterious totalitarian state who must hack her way to freedom.
Pet Lab
One for the kids, Pet Lab involves creating, training, and customising a wide variety of magical creatures. From manipulating eggs and hatching critters in all shapes and sizes to making potions in the kitchen and adorning creations with a variety of horns, tails, ears and custom furs, there’s plenty to do in Pet Lab. The creatures can then be trained in the den to hone their skills and compete against players in the Royal Rumbleshire Tournaments.
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
An oldie but a goldie, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes by Steel Crate Games was one of the earliest examples of local social VR multiplayer, highlighting the fact that VR doesn’t have to be a solitary experience. The VR player has to diffuse a bomb, unfortunately they have no idea how to as each bomb is made up of different modules that have to be solved individually. To do this all the non-VR players have a bomb manual and must guide the person in VR to the correct solution.
Catan VR
A brand new title, Catan VR isn’t solely for Oculus Go as it also supports both Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR. Experiment 7 has brought this classic boardgame in VR, offering four player tournaments online as well as a single-player to learn the ropes. Players take the role of settlers who need to establish colonies on the islands of Catan, acquiring resources to build infrastructure and roads whilst engaging in trade with other players, all with aim of growing large enough to get the ten victory points needed to win.
Wands
Another cross-platform multiplayer experience, Wands puts you in the shoes of an apprentice magician who must do battle in one-on-one matches against other wizards. With a small selection of spells to begin with, as you level up and become stronger you’ll gain access to better spells offering a wider choice of tactical opportunities.
Skylight
One of the most addictive strategy experiences for Samsung Gear VR, Skylight by indie developer E McNeill is a turn-based sci-fi videogame involving epic spce battles. With both single-player and multiplayer modes you choose which craft will offer the best strategic edge before heading into battle. With 15 unique ship types and 36 campaign missions, a skirmish mode and online, there’s plenty to keep you busy.

2K NBA 2K Borderlands 3
Bandai Namco Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
Bethesda DOOM Eternal DOOM 2016 Rage 2 The Elder Scrolls Online Wolfenstein: Youngblood
Bungie Destiny 2 Destiny 2: Shadowkeep Expansion
CD PROJEKT RED Cyberpunk 2077
Chump Squad KINE
Coatsink Get Packed
Codemasters GRID
Dotemu Windjammers 2
Deep Silver Metro Exodus
Drool Thumper
Giants Software Farming Simulator 19
Larian Studios Baldur’s Gate 3
nWay Games Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid
Omega Force Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle
Pandemic Studios Destroy All Humans!
Robot Entertainment Orcs Must Die! 3 (Exclusivo)
Sega Football Manager
SNK Samurai Shodown
Square Enix Final Fantasy XV Tomb Raider Definitive Edition Rise of the Tomb Raider Shadow of the Tomb-Raider Marvel’s Avengers
SUPERHOT SUPERHOT
Tequila Works Gylt (Exclusivo)
THQ Darksiders Genesis
Ubisoft Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Just Dance Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 Trials Rising The Crew 2 Watch Dogs: Legion
Warner Bros Mortal Kombat 11

These are the games coming to Google Stadia
Google’s game streaming service isn’t set to launch until November, but the company kept the hype train going through the mid-August doldrums with a Gamescom Stadia Connect livestream. As promised, the online press conference was “all about the games,” featuring what looks to be a nearly complete list of launch (and some post-launch) titles.
Here are all of the trailers from today’s Google Stadia announcement
The games include some top names like Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy XV, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Mortal Kombat 11. It also enlists a number of top publishers, including Bethesda, Square and Ubisoft. A number of key publishing partners have opted to keep their lists under wraps until closer to (or at) launch, however, including EA, Capcom and Rockstar.
youtube
As previously noted, the service will run $10 a month, including access to games and discounts on purchases. A base version of the service will also be available at some point next year. When it launches in November, the service will be available in 14 countries, including US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands and Finland. More will be added in 2020.
Google is currently offering up a “Founder’s Edition” pre-order for $130. That includes a controller, Chromecast Ultra and three months of the service for you and a friend.
Here’s the list of titles so far,
