My favorite part of Armored Core 6 is Iguazu unwillingly getting adopted by old men. You have the Hero of Jupiter, G1 Michigan who clearly cares about the Red Guns even if he is very brash and you have experienced assassin Coldcall who apparently also took one look at Iguazu and decided, yeah he likes the lad. Seriously, he's just like; is that Raven kid bothering you son. No problem I will bring him back to you in a body bag :)

Prompt #1: Envoy

“Now I think we’re even.” He flipped the sword and held it from its point. The handle just out of reach of the seeker before him. “You can try again, kid, but I’m not going to make it easy on you.”

That was how it continued, he remembered. A flash of steel out of the dark. A gleam of iron from the edge of his vision. The telltale scrape of metal and leather. She eventually ditched the blade altogether. He wasn’t entirely sure what he did to warrant the attention of an errant murderous cat. Did he just look particularly pitiable and easy enough to off? He couldn’t recall if he met her before she had lunged at him with a knife. He couldn’t recall if he even knew her name… He could, however, recall the exact moment she jumped to trying to use a bow. The thunk of an arrow as he turned to the side. The soldier beside him jumped to what little cover they had. Brown eyes staring from a distance. Not murderous. Just astounded. Then pissed. Another arrow went wide before those eyes disappeared.

He unstrung her bow and tossed it. Stray arrows were dropped before her. A small collection of knives clattered into the sand and stone in the cadence of faraway rain. The sword clattered loud as it fell. He wore a lopsided smile and a shrug like they were worn out clothes. “And now we’re even.” He echoed himself. “Your ambushes are getting better- But still obvious. You follow the easier tracks and don’t bother improving your ideas. How many times-” He drew a circle in the sand with his boot. A shoddy illustration of her handiwork. “-are you going to try the same sandtrap trick? Or luring me with seeing you? Or something shiny? I’ve walked away from all of that more than once, so I’d like to think you don’t see me as stupid…” She stared up at him with a look that said she did. Walker turned away, a sigh on his breath, with that. “Right. Stop underestimating people. Hunt something smarter than a sandfish if you’re so into this.”

“Oh, and…” He paused midstep, turning to point at her. He rattled his mind like a tin for something poignant to say to his murderous companion. “I’ll be gone come the morning. Learn to follow more than footsteps. Be more than a hunter. If you can keep up with me-” Another knife pulled from a belt. But not one of her failed attempts; this was his. He tossed it in her direction. She caught it with strangely wide eyes. “Then you’ll be just fine. Next time, then. Maybe when you catch me, finally, I’ll get to know your name.”

Memory cast him back to the present day as he startled awake. He felt like he was being stared at from the underbrush of the Twelveswood- It felt familiar. But he shook it clear as he stood. As he stretched.
