Imagine Being With Acrisius When the Truth About Zeus is Revealed
Summary: You’ve stood beside King Acrisius for decades as his queen, the mother of five of his children, and the quiet force behind his rise. But when the truth of Zeus’s comes to light, everything shifts. Your heart remains tangled: you love Acrisius, but your concern for his nephew and your own buried guilt forces you to make a choice. Pairing: Acrisius x Reader Word Count: ~1,200 Warnings: Canon-typical violence, betrayal themes
You saw the signs before Acrisius even said a word.
The way his hand tightened around the edge of the carved table. The way his jaw clenched when the messenger was gone. And that look, not rage, not yet. No grief either. Just that morbid, biting silence that came when something he believed in shattered.
You didn't say anything at first. You simply approached him, gently placing your hand on his shoulder.
"I guess the rumors are true," you said quietly.
Acrisius didn't look at you. "Zeus. That thing, he was never just a story." His voice was low in a way he would never have let anyone hear. "He deceived us all. He manipulated my brother and my family."
Your heart broke up knowing how much he hated being manipulated, and also deceived by the only god they trust.
You watching him out of the corner of your eye. "He has already done it before, Your brother isn't the first, and he won't be the last."
He finally turned to you. "And you knew that?"
"I suspected. I didn't tell you because… I wasn't sure. And I knew how it would feel."
Something flashed in his eyes. Not anger. Something softer. Worn. "You should have told me anyway."
You sighed and looked away. "I've kept much worse secrets, Acrisius. You know that." Keeping Electra's secret and her affair with the thunder god a secret.
The silence between you stretched, heavy with history. The kind that needs no explanation. Five children. A kingdom wrested by ambition and bloodshed. A throne almost within reach, and now this.
"Are you still planning to take the throne?" she asked after a moment.
He looked at you and turned his head toward the fire, as he felt your arms around his upper body. "Of course. Periander is weak. The people sense it. He's not ready."
"But his sons," you whispered to your husband.
That's when his hesitation showed. Just for a moment.
"I know," he said.
You didn't need to say more. He knew how you viewed them. Periander's children, yet to be born to Electra, are the greatest obstacle for the two strategists. Acrisieus always looked at you as if you were his most precious possession in the entire kingdom.
Acrisius stepped closer. His fingers gently touched your elbow. "You're not getting sentimental, are you?". "You're not getting sentimental, are you?"
You smiled faintly. "Don't act surprised. You married me for my wit, not my cruelty."
"Sometimes I wish it were the other way around."
You sniffed softly. "Liar. They're your family too," she said in a softer voice. "Yes, they are, but only by blood."
"That's what makes our mission more difficult."
He looked at you as if he could almost see the fear beneath your calm. "Your sons won't hesitate. They were raised for it. You've seen to that."
"I know." You finally turned to him. "That's why I have to hesitate. I'm the only one who does."
Another long silence.
He broke it first. "Do you love me?"
The question was sudden. Simple. So rarely asked between two people who had lived lives full of adventure, sex, pleasure, and strategy.
You blinked. "Why are you asking me this now?"
"Answer yes or no."
You thought about it. Really. About what love had meant to you both, in the stolen nights, in the battles fought side by side, for the children raised between duty and ambition. You weren't sure it was the kind of love poets speak of.
But it was real. You nodded once. "Yes."
He rested his forehead against yours, tired, angry, but anchored to you. "Then don't go."
"I'm not going," you murmured. "But I'll stand between them. If I have to. I won't let our sons slaughter children just to wear a crown."
"I know," he replied softly.
His hand joined yours, worn, warm and comforting. And for the first time, that night, he didn't pull away. You remained naked in your bed. and share an intimate moment.
You stood together in the firelight, surrounded by maps, parchments, and broken plans.
But you remained his anchor. And he was still the only one who saw you for all that you were: mother, queen, lover, mistress, and protector.
Perhaps, love was more than that: something no god could take away from you two.
