What is Sendlane?
Sendlane is a baby compared to established email marketing companies like Aweber and GetResponse.
Sendlane was founded in 2013 by 3 co-founders: Jimmy Kim, Zakariah Meftah and Anik Singal.
They were all digital marketers who were not very satisfied with what existing email marketing tools had to offer marketers.
In 2015, they got their first customer, and from there, Sendlane grew rapidly to over 40,000 users in 2017.
In my personal experience, I have seen no comments, significantly negative about Sendlane in the marketing communities.
They seem to have a solid reputation online.
Sendlane plans and pricing
There are a few things about Sendlane’s plans that stand out immediately:
There is no free plan – but there is a 14-day free trial. You will need a credit card to sign up.
All plans have the same features – You only pay more if you need more contacts.
Only unique contacts count – placing the same contact on multiple lists still counts as 1 contact for your limit.
Here is a summary table of how much Sendlane charges based on the maximum number of contacts.
It is not surprising that the price per contact decreases as you progress with your plans.
We must note two things from this.
First, Sendlane is the most expensive marketing automation option at all levels for all 3 competitors.
Second, each email marketing platform offers different features and functionality.
Sendlane costs more, but it might be worth it.
That’s what the rest of this review is about.
Sendlane Features
In addition to email transmissions or automatic replies, Sendlane has some features designed to make your life easier.
I will examine them briefly in this section.
Drag and Drop Email Editor
Sendlane has one of the most polished drag-and-drop email editors I’ve ever used.
It is smooth and there are no strange layout problems or input delay.
All email elements are available in the menu on the left and have control over all aspects of the layout.
The big weakness is that there are only a few dozen email templates to choose from.
The overall quality is good, but not better than that of the competitors.
Landing Page Creator
Some companies like GetResponse have a wide variety of products that group on top of their basic email marketing platform: Webinars, CRM, Landing pages, forms and more.
It is difficult to say where the line is between an email marketing tool and a general CRM marketing tool.
Sendlane really offers only one additional tool, a landing page creator.
It is included in all plans.
For you, this can be a good or a bad thing.
Some marketers need these extra automation tools, while others don’t and think they add to the major tool they want.
There are over 50 landing page templates to choose from, with a decent range of designs.
When you are finished, you can either send the code to your website or host it on the Sendlane domain.
There are some interesting features included with certain landing page templates:
Countdown counters
Video
Pop-ups and retargeting
And your landing page has built-in analytics to measure performance.
Advanced contact marking and automation
This is the area that makes Sendlane stand out from the competition for me.
To start, you can create workflows to modify your email marketing funnel and behavior based on your subscribers ’actions.
Whether a subscriber meets a specific condition (click on a link, live in a certain area, etc.), they can perform an action automatically, such as adding a tag or adding it to a specific list.
Of course, you can also run manual queries on a list and create a segment that way, if you don’t already have a workflow set up:
In comparison to other tools that offer similar types of functionality, I found that Sendlane is just as or more powerful and very simple to use.
I will delve into the details later.
Standard reports and analysis
As any email marketing tool should have, there is a basic level of real-time reporting and analysis for your emails:
It covers all the basics in a good marketing automation dashboard:
Opening rates
Click-through rates
Bounces
Unsubscribe
Link clicks
Most active subscribers
Nothing really stands out positively or negatively here, but there is a manageable level of real-time tracking without overloading it.
Automatically optimized shipping times
One feature that Sendlane includes is time-optimized features you can enable or disable in each individual email.
With it enabled, Sendlane automatically tracks your subscribers’ open habits and delivers emails at the best times to individual contacts.
Obviously, this gets better over time as you collect more data.
That’s it for the features, now let’s move on to the real functionality and how Sendlane works.
Creating a contact list
You will find all of your lists in the “lists” section of your account (shocking, I know).
Setup is easy for each list, with just a few form fields to fill out for each.
You can configure as many lists as you like. Remember that adding an existing contact to a new list does not count towards your contact limit.
Once you have a list, you have a few options for adding subscribers to it.
You can add them one by one as they sign up on your site through the API or a form you do with Sendlane.
You can add them manually one by one. It is not very convenient, but there may be rare cases when you need it.
Finally, you can import subscribers from other email marketing platforms.
Honestly, this process is a huge pain.
If approved, you’ll be allowed to upload spreadsheets or paste contact information to add bulk subscribers.
The first 2 options are essentially the same, but the second is a little simpler if it comes from one of the other main email marketing tools (MailChimp, Aweber, GetResponse, Active Campaign).
For each one, you will need to fill out a form with several questions:
Then, wait until one business day to actually import your information.
In addition, there are additional conditions for this.
Sendlane will not import all your contacts, but only the active contacts in the lists that have open rates above 10%.
I’m sure this eliminates spammers very well and helps to keep your delivery rates high, but be aware that migrating to Sendlane will take some time and hassle.
Email transmissions on Sendlane
All email marketing tools allow you to send a transmission, and it is a good starting point when looking at a tool.
The Sendlane process is simple and streamlined.
Start creating marketing campaigns and new email campaigns and choosing which lists or tags to send to.
Then choose a model.
There are just over 20 marketing models to choose from now, with plenty of variety.
Everyone is responsive and has reasonably excellent designs.
This will take you to the email editor, which, as I mentioned before, is very easy and intuitive to use.
Clicking on an element allows you to change the text, if applicable, and edit its appearance in the left menu panel.
You can drag or delete existing elements and add them in the menu on the left.
After finishing everything, you can choose when to send the email:
You can send it immediately or at some point in the future. You can also save it as a draft and edit it later.
Overall, Sendlane receives almost perfect email transmissions.
Email Automation in Sendlane
This is undoubtedly the most important part of Sendlane.
The big thing that other tools for marketers lack is advanced automation, and Sendlane aims to fill that marketing gap.
There are 2 automation options: Autoresponders and workflows.
Autoresponders are your classic email strings in which you specify the time between emails, while workflows are much more advanced and offer more customization.
By clicking on “add automation” on the automation tab, you can click on “start from scratch” if you want to create an automatic response.
It’s not exactly obvious, but I think Sendlane assumes that he will mainly use workflows.
From there, you can add as many emails as you want, it has a very standard interface:
Workflows are more interesting for most marketers.
You can choose from several workflow templates or, more likely, start from scratch and build your own funnel.
To create a workflow, there must be an initial trigger:
It can be someone signing up for an email list or when you add a tag to it.
For example, if someone opens an email that mentions a new product, they can add it to a workflow that takes them to a sales funnel.
Workflows consist of 2 things: triggers and actions.
Actions take place automatically after a trigger occurs.
For actions, you have several options.
You can send a specific email, subscribe or unsubscribe from them, in a list, or even start a new workflow.
The most common for marketers is the “What if / Other” action .
You can make an “What if” statement that divides contacts in the workflow into a “yes” and “no” branch, where they receive different emails.
The conditions of the “What if” statement can be based on several factors, including subscriber activity, subscription source, location and subscription date.
For example, if you choose the subscriber’s activity, you can make a condition that checks whether a contact has opened a specific email or not, or if they clicked on a link in it.
It is a powerful resource and the process for using it is simple.
The way this automation is implemented is better for digital marketers than almost all competing email marketing platforms.
Creating a landing page
The only additional tool that Sendlane offers is a landing page creator that can help you collect subscribers.
I already mentioned that there are over 50 models to choose from with some advanced features, like stopwatch countdowns, so let’s take a quick look at the editor here.
It is very similar to the email builder, which makes the time to learn to use it practically nil.
Again, you can drag-and-drop elements such as images, videos, forms and buttons as desired.
It also has almost complete control over the style of the page.
The bottom menu bar allows you to view the page on mobile or desktop devices.
When you’re done, you’ll have the option to copy the code and paste it on your website.
Overall, it is a smooth landing page creator with no inconvenience or input latency.
It is on par with most of the tools dedicated to the landing page creator, which says a lot.
API and integrations
The last important part of the functionality to be examined is how it will actually integrate Sendlane into your website (s).
Sendlane has a well-documented API.
If you are a programmer or have one that works for you, the API should have everything you need.
Note that if you add subscribers via the API, the default is double acceptance.
You can change it to a single option by contacting customer support, but I assume there is a screening process to ensure that you are not doing anything good.
Sendlane has a handful of Sendlane integration partners.
When accessing your account’s “integration” guide, you will see options for Shopify, WooCommerce, Zapier and ClickBank.
But they could definitely use more. There is no plugin for WordPress, which is surprising.
For most sites, you want to use the landing page creator or create an application form for your site.
To create an application form, select “web forms” from the integration options.
This will open the form editor for a page:
There are 4 basic options of minimalist style, but further customizing the appearance cannot be done from this editor.
You can add all the basic fields on the form, such as first name, last name, email and even an image.
Forms also support Captcha to eliminate spam.
When you’re done, the editor spits out the HTML and CSS that you can copy and paste somewhere on your site.
Overall, Sendlane is reasonably easy to integrate with your site, but it could use more partners for more in-depth integration and form customization.
A more detailed analysis of the Sendlane interface and user experience
Overall, Sendlane has a clean, modern design and is intuitive to use for the most part.
But I would like to go over some parts of the user experience that may not have been obvious in the other sections of the analysis so far.
Enrollment
Basically, there is no integration process when you sign up. It’s basically “here’s your panel, you’ll find out”.
For Sendlane’s credit, most are intuitive and don’t need much help, especially if you’ve used other email marketing tools in the past.
There is also a light red help button that takes you to customer support resources.
Technically, there is some kind of integration process.
You will receive daily emails when you sign up, each focusing on one aspect of Sendlane’s functionality.
I’m not sure if this is useful, because if someone wanted to do a specific task, they would have to contact customer support or find out for themselves before that point.
Clarity of the marketing automation platform
There are some other UX elements that I would like to highlight.
On the one hand, most instructions and labels are clear, but there are some unclear instructions.
For example, go to the “add subscribers” section of a list, and it has a bold line at the top that says “Do you want to subscribe to over one person at a time?”
The problem is that the rest of the text has nothing to do with that question, and that question is not a link to a supporting document.
It is missing a link or was left in error after changing this page, but it is one of the few similar things I found.
Frankness
Sendlane is not an email marketing tool you can start with immediately.
We have already seen the difficulty of importing subscribers from another tool.
But there is another delay: getting approved.
After importing subscribers, your emails will not be sent immediately.
Instead, the first 3-5 emails will be manually checked and approved by the Sendlane Compliance Team.
It’s a general formality, but wait a week or more before actually getting your email and marketing funnels up and running.
Again, Sendlane does this to reduce spammers, but it’s annoying if you’re motivated to work and can’t.
Support Resources
Sendlane does a good job of combining its support resources with the real email platform.
Support is all done through the ticketing system, but you can view and respond to messages through a chat window while you are connected (or by email).
Clicking the bright red help button on each page will slide a small panel into the help center.
It has a quick search feature and suggestions relevant to the page you are on.
You can also click on the “get in touch” button with support here to start a ticket via chat.
Support is available 24/7/365 and, although it is not technically a live chat, responses usually take 5 minutes.
At least that’s what Sendlane says, and that has been the case for the few times I have had to contact them.
Finally, there is the knowledge base.
It has hundreds of articles and tutorials that show you how to use certain Sendlane features.
What about quality?
Sendlane’s help team is located in San Diego, United States.
So you can at least be sure that help is not subcontracted to a cheap support company.
As a writer, the quality of the knowledge base impressed me.
The articles are all very clear, with annotated images.
Its knowledge base is also well organized, and the search function is effective.
Pros and Cons of Sendlane
We have seen a lot up to this point, so I would like to try to summarize Sendlane’s greatest strengths and weaknesses here.
PROS
Advanced automation (workflows) – Offers the ability to send emails based on a wide variety of subscriber actions (triggers).
Intuitive and modern design – Each part of the tool is well-designed and easy to use.
Smooth landing page and email editors – Drag and drop editors are easy to use and not at all clumsy.
Excellent support documentation – The knowledge base is full of well-written tutorials with clear images.
CONS
Cost – Sendlane is more expensive than most competitors.
No instant migration process – you will need to be manually approved to import subscribers from elsewhere, and then your first emails will also have to be manually reviewed.
High integration f – There are some integrations, but not on the same level as the leading competitors. I’m sure this will improve over time.
Is Sendlane worth it?
Sendlane was developed to be an email marketing tool and email marketing service specifically for digital marketers and e-commerce store owners (specifically, Shopify store operators, great integration with Shopify).
It tries to do this by providing a simple-to-use interface and features such as a landing page builder and advanced email automation through workflows.
In my opinion, he has achieved success in achieving his goal as a marketing platform.
Despite being relatively new, Sendlane quickly grows its user base and I hope it will continue to grow as marketers learn about it.
It is also too early to get a good read on Sendlane’s delivery rates, although there is no reason to doubt that it is worse than the industry standard.

What is Getresponse?
Getresponse is an email marketing app that allows you to:
·         create a mailing list and capture data onto it
·         send emails to the subscribers on your mailing list
·         automate your emails to subscribers via use of ‘autoresponders’

·         view and analyse statistics related to your email campaigns – open rate, click through, forwards etc.
·         In recent years however, Getresponse has shifted its emphasis considerably: the product now aims be more of an ‘all-in-one’ e-commerce and marketing solution rather than just an email marketing tool.
·         Accordingly, in addition to email marketing, Getresponse now also provides e-commerce features, webinar hosting, landing pages and automated sales funnels.
·         Getresponse has been in business since 1998 and, according to the company, over 350,000 individuals and businesses now use the platform for their email campaigns.
·         Whilst this userbase is not as big as those of some other email marketing tools (notably Mailchimp), it is large enough to provide confidence that the company is well-established and is not likely to disappear any time soon.
Getresponse pricing
There are four Getresponse plans:
·         Basic — starting at $15 per month to send an unlimited number of emails to up to 1,000 subscribers
·         Plus — starting at $49 per month for up to 1,000 subscribers
·         Professional — starting at $99 per month for up to 1,000 subscribers
·         Max — negotiable.
As you add more subscribers to your list, the costs increase. At the top end of the scale, you can expect to pay $450, $499 or $580 per month to use Getresponse with a list containing 100,000 subscribers on the ‘Basic’, ‘Plus’ and ‘Professional’ plans (respectively).
Key differences between plans
All the Getresponse plans cover the email marketing basics you might expect — core features include:
·         the ability to import, grow and host a subscriber list
·         a selection of themes to use for your e-newsletters
·         autoresponder functionality
·         responsive email designs
·         split testing
·         landing pages
·         in-depth reporting
·         RSS / blog to-email functionality
·         list
 segmentation options
There are a number of differences between the ‘Basic’, ‘Plus’ and ‘Professional’ plans, but for me the key ones are below:
·         Automation builder — arguably Getresponse’s standout feature, the automation builder (which allows you to build complex autoresponder sequences based on user behaviour) is only available on the ‘Plus’ plan or higher (you can create 5 automations on the plus plan; or an unlimited number on the other plans).
·         Conversion funnels — you get access to more automated sales funnels as you go up the pricing ladder.
·         Webinars — this functionality is not available at all on the ‘Basic’ plan and the number of webinar attendees is capped for the ‘Plus’, ‘Professional’ and ‘Enterprise’ plans at 100, 300 and 500 respectively.
·         Team management — you can only have one user account on the ‘Basic’ plan; by contrast you get 3 on ‘Plus’, 5 on ‘Professional’ and 10 on ‘Enterprise.
·         E-commerce — the abandoned order recovery feature is only available on the ‘Plus’ plan or higher.
How does Getresponse pricing compare to that of its competitors?
So long as you are happy to use one of the entry-level ‘Basic’ plans, the pay-per-month Getresponse plans are on the whole cheaper than those provided by many of its key competitors, particularly if you have a reasonably large number of email addresses on your database.
At the entry level database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is fairly competitive — you can host a database containing up to 1,000 email addresses for $15 a month with Getresponse, compared to $29 per month on Aweber and Campaign Monitor. The pricing for Mailchimp’s broadly comparable ‘Standard’ plan is $14.99 per month.
As you go up the pricing ladder, Getresponse remains competitively priced.
If you have a contact list containing 10,000 records, hosting it on the ‘Basic’ Getresponse plan costs $65 per month.
This works out:
·         $4 per month cheaper than Aweber
·         $24 per month cheaper than Campaign Monitor
·         $40 per month cheaper than Mailchimp (Standard Plan)
Some other things to be aware of on the competitor pricing front are:
·         Some competing providers — notably Mailchimp and Aweber — offer free accounts for users with a small number of records (note however that these do not offer the full range of features that you get on a paid plan).
 Getresponse doesn’t yet offer a similar free plan.
·         Some solutions (Mailchimp again being a prime example) charge you to host both subscribed and unsubscribed contacts, which can become a significant hidden cost. Getresponse only charges you for your active subscribers.
·         If you are prepared to pay upfront for 1 or 2 years, you can avail of substantial discounts with Getresponse that other competitors don’t yet provide.
So the bottom line is that its lack of an entirely free plan aside, Getresponse stacks up well against competitors in the pricing department.

There’s a program called Zero Up Lite, but it’s not exactly a free trial of Zero Up. It has 10 videos covering some e-commerce basics, but there’s no free trial of the automation software.
But let’s get back to Zero Up.
Zero Up Lab is the cloud-based e-commerce automation tool suite, and it has a tool for almost every stage of building your store.
First, you’ll need to create a Shopify account and link it to Zero Up. When you’ve done that, Zero Up’s first feature offers you 10 pre-designed themes spanning multiple styles.
In addition, Zero Up offers you 180 pre-built stores so you can get started in any niche right away. Zero Up will actually add the hottest products in the niche you chose to your store, making the process even more hands-free. If you don’t want one of those products in your store, you can delete it from your offerings.
No need to worry about creating stuff like About pages, either. After choosing your theme and niche, you’re taken to a page where you enter your store’s details, including which pages you want to be created.
Another feature is the product engine, which is linked directly to Aliexpress. The product engine comes with advanced search features so you can locate the perfect products for your store. When you’ve found your products, the product engine links them to your store with the click of a button.
There’s also an order fulfillment automation tool, which is nice since order fulfillment in dropshipping is repetitive. It’ll track orders for you, making it easy to resolve any ordering issues. This feature frees up more time to focus on higher-ROI activities like marketing.
Speaking of marketing, Zero Up Lab lets you integrate your email marketing software into Zero Up. Within this feature, there are tools for list segmentation so you have the right emails going to the right customers.

None of the modules waste time or have fluff. Each lesson gets right to the point and focuses on a specific part of e-commerce.
Module 1 has 12 lessons teaching you about niche selection, store creation, and other “getting started” details.
Then you learn about inventory arbitrage in Module 2, which is basically another word for dropshipping.
Module 3 covers email autoresponders, as well as e-commerce apps that increase automation and help you make sales. Some of these apps such as Hurrify use false urgency or scarcity. Consumers are catching on to these tactics and frankly getting annoyed with them, so try to avoid using urgency or scarcity unless it’s real.
Module 4 walks you through sales funnel construction and introduces you to copywriting.
Module 5 contains 21 lessons that teach you everything about advertising your store.
Module 6 is all about managing your store and looking for ways to improve once you’ve established consistent revenue.
Fred closes out the Masters Program with scaling lessons in Module 7.

But don’t forget that you’re also getting a bunch of automation tools.

Zero Up has an affiliate program that offers 50% commissions on all affiliate sales, meaning you can earn $750 per sale as an affiliate. To illustrate how much that is, 3 affiliate sales per week earns you a 6-figure income. That makes Zero Up’s program one of the most lucrative affiliate program’s I’ve seen.
Now, selling the program at $1,497 isn’t exactly easy. That’s why Fred actually built and tested 3 funnels for his affiliates to choose from.
The first funnel choice is a free video course giveaway. Fred gives you Zero Up Lite to share with your audience. The 10 lessons within Zero Up Lite should be enough to convert a few customers.
If you’d rather give your audience a free book, Fred’s 2nd funnel option is centered around his book Starting From Zero. A big selling point with this one is Robert Kiyosaki’s foreword. Starting From Zero is similar to Zero Up Lite, but in book form. There are 8 chapters covering the basics of dropshipping, from an overview in Chapter 1 to information about scaling in Chapter 8.

Product
Zero Up consists of the Zero Up Lab, Zero Up Master’s Program, a Product Vault, Traffic Genius: Blueprint To Attracting Buyers, the Concierge Personal Coaching program, and the Zero Up Network.
There’s a program called Zero Up Lite, but it’s not exactly a free trial of Zero Up. It has 10 videos covering some e-commerce basics, but there’s no free trial of the automation software.
But let’s get back to Zero Up.
Zero Up Lab is the cloud-based e-commerce automation tool suite, and it has a tool for almost every stage of building your store.
First, you’ll need to create a Shopify account and link it to Zero Up. When you’ve done that, Zero Up’s first feature offers you 10 pre-designed themes spanning multiple styles.
In addition, Zero Up offers you 180 pre-built stores so you can get started in any niche right away. Zero Up will actually add the hottest products in the niche you chose to your store, making the process even more hands-free. If you don’t want one of those products in your store, you can delete it from your offerings.
No need to worry about creating stuff like About pages, either. After choosing your theme and niche, you’re taken to a page where you enter your store’s details, including which pages you want to be created.
Another feature is the product engine, which is linked directly to Aliexpress. The product engine comes with advanced search features so you can locate the perfect products for your store. When you’ve found your products, the product engine links them to your store with the click of a button.
There’s also an order fulfillment automation tool, which is nice since order fulfillment in dropshipping is repetitive. It’ll track orders for you, making it easy to resolve any ordering issues. This feature frees up more time to focus on higher-ROI activities like marketing.
Speaking of marketing, Zero Up Lab lets you integrate your email marketing software into Zero Up. Within this feature, there are tools for list segmentation so you have the right emails going to the right customers.
Zero Up’s email marketing features currently support Aweber, Campaign Monitor, Constant Contact, Drip, GetResponse, Infusionsoft, Mad Mimi, MailChimp, Sendgrid, Sendlane, and Send Reach.
Other Zero Up Lab features include drag-and-drop sales funnel and landing pages builders and a “profit multiplier” tool that lets you beef up your sales funnel with coupons, pictures, videos, and more.
That’s it for the software features. Fred wasn’t lying when he said you can build a fully-functioning store with only a few clicks.
The Zero Up Master’s Program contains the bulk of the educational material.
In it, there are 75 training videos divided among 7 modules.
None of the modules waste time or have fluff. Each lesson gets right to the point and focuses on a specific part of e-commerce.
Module 1 has 12 lessons teaching you about niche selection, store creation, and other “getting started” details.
Then you learn about inventory arbitrage in Module 2, which is basically another word for dropshipping.
Module 3 covers email autoresponders, as well as e-commerce apps that increase automation and help you make sales. Some of these apps such as Hurrify use false urgency or scarcity. Consumers are catching on to these tactics and frankly getting annoyed with them, so try to avoid using urgency or scarcity unless it’s real.
Module 4 walks you through sales funnel construction and introduces you to copywriting.
Module 5 contains 21 lessons that teach you everything about advertising your store.
Module 6 is all about managing your store and looking for ways to improve once you’ve established consistent revenue.
Fred closes out the Masters Program with scaling lessons in Module 7.
If you’re stuck looking for a hot product to sell, the Product Vault bonus has you covered.
Fred assembled high-converting products in every niche in case your Aliexpress search turns up nothing interesting.
Also inside the Product Vault is information on how to sell jewelry in almost any niche. Using Zero Up Jewels, you can actually print your own jewelry on demand and sell it in your store.
The Traffic Genius bonus contains Fred’s area of expertise.
Fred reveals his strategies for scaling his store for less using targeted traffic from Google, Facebook, Bing, and other sources. He’ll walk you step-by-step through every traffic source he uses.
These 3 bonuses alone teach you everything you need to know to make it in dropshipping, but it’s not always enough to have a course in front of you.
Fred knows failure can be especially frustrating if you’ve studied all the material, so he made himself available via his Starting From Zero Bootcamp.
His Bootcamp consists of weekly live Q&A with Fred, but he’ll also review your business and make sure you’re on the path to dropshipping success.
And like any good online course, there’s a private Facebook group where you can network with other aspiring e-commerce entrepreneurs.
But if you’ve done all the modules, asked the right questions, followed Fred’s teachings to a T, and your store is still failing, he and his team will personally review your entire store in the Concierge coaching program.
The Concierge program sounds like a generous offer, but he only offers you this if you fail to make a single sale within 60 days of launching your business.
I’m not sure how technical he gets with the “can’t make a single sale” thing, but it could mean that he won’t help you if you’ve made one sale and then failed to make more.
Not a huge deal, as it sounds like the Bootcamp but for those who are struggling to get their business off the ground.
Then there’s the Zero Up Network bonus for those entrepreneurs who want to make their store stand out.
This bonus lets you expand into print-on-demand products like shirts, bags, and coffee mugs. You can put your own logos on these, or you can choose from over 1,000 premade designs if you lack design skills.
Fred also gives you his list of manufacturers in the United States he personally uses for his custom products.
The Network is available to Platinum Members only, although none of Fred’s websites define what makes you a Platinum Member. I think it’s an old customer tier that he scrapped.
Upsells
Zero Up has no direct upsells. Fred Lam has many other courses on his iPro Academy website, but he doesn’t push any of them on you in Zero Up.
Pricing
Zero Up costs $1,497 upfront, but you can opt for 3 monthly payments of $597. Most dropshipping courses cost a few hundred dollars, making this one of the most expensive products in this niche.
But don’t forget that you’re also getting a bunch of automation tools.
As usual, the $2495 upfront or $997 per month prices are crossed out on his sales page and replaced by $1,497 and $597 to make it look like you’re getting a good deal.
Affiliate Program
Zero Up has an affiliate program that offers 50% commissions on all affiliate sales, meaning you can earn $750 per sale as an affiliate. To illustrate how much that is, 3 affiliate sales per week earns you a 6-figure income. That makes Zero Up’s program one of the most lucrative affiliate program’s I’ve seen.
Now, selling the program at $1,497 isn’t exactly easy. That’s why Fred actually built and tested 3 funnels for his affiliates to choose from.
The first funnel choice is a free video course giveaway. Fred gives you Zero Up Lite to share with your audience. The 10 lessons within Zero Up Lite should be enough to convert a few customers.
If you’d rather give your audience a free book, Fred’s 2nd funnel option is centered around his book Starting From Zero. A big selling point with this one is Robert Kiyosaki’s foreword. Starting From Zero is similar to Zero Up Lite, but in book form. There are 8 chapters covering the basics of dropshipping, from an overview in Chapter 1 to information about scaling in Chapter 8.
Fred’s last Zero Up affiliate funnel choice is a webinar. Instead of a 30-minute sales pitch, Fred says that his webinar has hours of free training with the pitch at the end. On his affiliate signup page, he also claims the webinar had a conversion of 12%. If you can maintain that conversion rate for your own audience, the webinar will earn you a hefty profit.
What’s great about being provided these funnels is the fact that Fred is already a master at traffic, meaning you barely have to do any creative work. Fred and his team have spent months or even years to perfect each funnel’s lead magnet, so all you have to do is present the funnel to your audience and let the free stuff work its magic.

Fred Lam’s Zero Up course is by no means a scam. I think it’s well worth the price, especially since you get lifetime access to everything.

Of course, it is not enough to store its backups on the server that hosts your site, it is also necessary to make a copy elsewhere for more security. Comparing Email Service Providers for Bloggers
This is the third post in our Email Newsletter Series.
One major sticking point for most bloggers who are setting up a newsletter is deciding what email service to use. There are lots of different, competing, options out there, and there’s no one perfect solution.
Just in case you were thinking about it … don’t try to run a newsletter by emailing everyone through your regular email client, using the “BCC” field. If you email subscribers from your own gmail, yahoo, even @yourdomain.com email account, you put your own IP address at risk for being blacklisted by Internet Service Providers if you get flagged as spam.
That means all your emails – not just bulk emails sent to your subscribers but regular everyday communications – could have a hard time getting to anyone. Definitely not a situation you want to find yourself in. You also want to make sure you don’t unintentionally break any privacy or anti-spam laws or you could find yourself in even more trouble.
Why Use an Email Service Provider?
Most email services have quite similar features, including these basics which really do take away the headache of sending bulk emails by:
Sending out emails. Obviously you’ll want to be able to email your list whenever you like! Most services allow you to send unlimited emails – however, if you’re on a free or cheap plan, check the small print.
Complying with regulations by allowing email recipients to “unsubscribe” from your list and helping you avoid being reported as spam by automatically stop sending emails to bounces, blocked mailboxes, spam reporters or mis-spelled emails. This actually gives you better a better chance of getting to your subscribers’ inboxes through the email service’s established reputation as a sender
Reporting on email deliverability, open-rates and click-throughs to see what messages work and even enabling split-testing of one message versus another
Offering a load of advanced features including sign-up forms, scheduled sending, automated message sequences, tagging and segmenting your audience to target with different messages and fancy templates to help your emails look great
How to Choose an Email Service?
What email service is going to work for you depends on what you want out of a service and often what stage of blogging you are at. For instance, having a free or low monthly rate may be more important when you’re just starting out. Whereas a complex array of trigger-based autoresponders based on subscriber activity will be useful to convert your subscribers to become paying customers via an email sales funnel.
An easy trap to fall into is to start looking at email service providers before analysing your own needs and priorities. You can very quickly become overwhelmed by the array of choice and distracted by features that may not be necessary or even useful for you.
A few questions to ask yourself are:
In what direction do you think your blog will develop? Are you planning to monetize and in what ways?
How many subscribers do you have? What goals/objectives do you have for subscriber growth and over what time period?
What’s your budget? If you’re planning to monetize your blog, it’s easier to offset the cost of email against sales revenue.
Are you technically-minded? For example do you know how to use HTML code?
Is graphic design and using images important for your emails? If you’re a fashion, food or lifestyle blogger, this may be much more important than if you are writing about less visual subjects.
How much time do you have to set things up and devote ongoing to your email system?
Once you have a framework of your own requirements, it becomes much easier to sort through the different features and options to assess what email systems will work for you and whether there is one that suits you best.
The good news is that even if you change your mind at a later stage, it’s possible to switch from one service to another. Most will make it quite straightforward to export your subscriber database to move to a new supplier.
At ProBlogger, we have just finished the process of changing our email service provider. We have used AWeber for approximately 12 years, alongside Mailchimp on occasion and we continue to do so for my other blog Digital Photography School. We took our time to investigate other email options, trialling a couple of alternatives and working out what will also work best with other systems we’re using. You don’t need to spend as long as we did in this process, but do enough homework to work out what suits you best. I’m an affiliate for the programs we use and the following recommendations include our affiliate links.
Which Email Service Should You Use?
The following list is an overview of popular email service providers that we have personally trialled over a long time. Each of them have their own strengths and weaknesses and are suitable for bloggers with different priorities and at different stages. This isn’t an exhaustive list, but hopefully it’ll give you an idea of some of the key options for running an email list. We’ve also compiled a comparison table of key features you can use to benchmark other solutions.
MailChimp
This is free up to 1,000 subscribers, and used by a lot of newer bloggers to get up and running. Mailchimp offers a really friendly interface, making it easy to create good-looking emails using their nice templates with a drag and drop editor. The Basic version isn’t so feature-rich as other options, but does offer some neat integration with Facebook and Instagram. Mailchimp charges an extra $199/month for their Pro add-ons which give you more advanced tracking, targeting and automation.
RECOMMENDED FOR: MailChimp could be a good option if you’re (a) just starting out with email and have under 1,000 subscribers (b) visual presentation and images are important (c) not yet ready to use lots of detailed features like tagging.
ALTERNATIVE: You may also want to consider the newer MailerLite which is quite a bit cheaper (once you get past 1,000 subscribers) and offers a few extra features.
AWeber
This well-established service costs from $19/month for up to 500 subscribers, and has slightly different strengths and features from MailChimp. You can refer to our comparison table below for details. While AWeber’s user interface is a bit dated, it represents increasingly good value for money as your list grows and has useful functionality to take your email marketing up a notch. You can apply tags to your subscribers to segment them, trigger email campaigns and autoresponder sequences. AWeber also offers split-testing allowing you to test different subject line text or message content, even different sign-up forms to increase response rates. Otherwise, the AWeber reporting is a bit clunky to use and doesn’t measure much beyond open and click rates. AWeber do provide good customer service via phone, email and live chat which is above and beyond most providers who just give you an online library of resources.
RECOMMENDED: AWeber is a solid, no-frills option that has worked for many (ProBlogger included) for a long-time. It’s particularly cost-effective as you develop a large list to market to.
ConvertKit
“Built by bloggers for bloggers” is the tagline of this new kid on the email block. We trialled Convertkit early on and were impressed with the system’s simplicity and recently added functionality which suits ‘professional’ bloggers. If you want to segment your list in several different ways (e.g. based on what links an individual subscriber has clicked), Convertkit has hosted, customizable landing pages and opt-in forms that allow you a lot of tagging options along with easy to use trigger-based email automations and sequences. However, Convertkit only does text based email. There are no beautifully designed templates here (unless you code it yourself): the focus is on sending simple, straightforward content.
RECOMMENDED: If you can budget for it, ConvertKit allows a lot of power and flexibility, and works very well to deliver a sign-up incentive (e.g. a free .pdf) – this is integrated with the “confirmation” email, so when your subscriber clicks to get their freebie, they automatically confirm their email address too. It’s simplicity allows you to get up and running quickly and if you are switching to Convertkit with over 5,000 subscribers, they offer a complimentary migration service.
ALTERNATIVE: GetResponse offers similar features to Convertkit but with more of a visual focus giving you designed email templates and a stock image library.
Drip
Drip is a bit pricier than the other options we’ve covered so far ($83/month for 5,000+ subscribers) but it has more features and comes with a money-back guarantee. You can compare it with other options here – though note this is Drip’s own comparison tool. Ultimately ProBlogger decided on Drip as it gave us the best insights into our readers, beyond email activity. Drip enables us to identify how valuable subscribers are, scoring each individual as a lead and also tracking their activity over on the blog. We can follow up on these interests with very personalized automated email workflows. Many similarly powerful systems require you to hire a consultant to navigate their complexities, whereas Drip is straightforward enough to tackle yourself with great learning resources including a Facebook Group and a supportive customer service team to assist.
RECOMMENDED: If you have an established blogging business and are looking for a powerful but easy to use CRM-type system check out Drip.
ALTERNATIVE: There are quite a few solutions in this top-end category, but none of them are cheap. Leading options include ActiveCampaign, Ontraport and Infusionsoft.
