Diesel hydrotreater (DHT) projects India
India's refinery sector is expanding its Diesel Hydrotreater (DHT) capacity to meet stringent fuel quality standards, especially the Bharat Stage VI (BS-VI) norms. Diesel Hydrotreaters play a critical role in removing sulphur and impurities from diesel streams to produce ultra-low sulphur diesel (ULSD), aligning with environmental mandates and global specifications. Major refiners such as Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) have implemented or are upgrading DHT units across their refineries. IOCL’s recent DHT upgrade at its Barauni and Gujarat refineries has enhanced diesel desulphurization capacity. Similarly, BPCL has commissioned an advanced DHT unit at its Kochi refinery with a capacity of over 5 MMTPA. HPCL has completed DHT revamp work at its Visakhapatnam and Mumbai refineries as part of its BS-VI compliance program. Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) and Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (CPCL) have also commissioned DHT units in recent years to meet ULSD specifications. Private sector refiners like Reliance Industries and Nayara Energy operate high-capacity DHT units, ensuring consistent production of export-grade diesel. New DHT units are also being integrated into ongoing refinery expansion projects, such as HMEL’s Bathinda complex and Numaligarh Refinery’s expansion in Assam, both targeting enhanced diesel output and quality. With India’s growing diesel demand and stricter environmental regulations, investments in DHT technology are set to increase. Most new projects emphasize energy efficiency, low emissions, and integration with hydrocracking units. Indian Petroplus continuously tracks Diesel Hydrotreater (DHT) projects across India, offering real-time updates on commissioning schedules, contractor involvement, and technological innovations. As refineries modernize to meet cleaner fuel requirements, DHT projects remain central to India’s downstream transformation. Diesel hydrotreater (DHT) projects India
Diesel Hydrotreater (DHT) projects in India are essential for producing cleaner, low-sulfur diesel fuels that meet Bharat Stage VI (BS-VI) emission standards. These projects involve upgrading existing refineries with advanced hydrotreater units to remove sulfur and other impurities from diesel. Major oil companies like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum have implemented DHT projects across refineries in Mathura, Bina, Mumbai, and more. DHT technology improves fuel quality, reduces environmental impact, and aligns with India’s clean energy and sustainability goals. With stricter emissions regulations, DHT projects play a vital role in modernizing India’s refining sector and ensuring eco-friendly fuel production, Diesel hydrotreater (DHT) projects India, Indianpetroplus
