Not me crying again at the ending of Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence after that intense close-up of Kitano saying goodbye to Conti, just like that wartime Christmas. God, what an underrated movie, such a masterpiece, and such a profound analysis of the complexity of emotions, trauma, the absurdity of war, honor, and feelings. I can’t—I always end up sobbing my heart out with this film.
