Britain announced it will build 12 new attack submarines as it launched a major defence review Monday to move the country to "war-fighting readiness" in the face of "Russian aggression" and the changing nature of conflict. Prime Minister Keir Starmer warned that "the threat we now face is more serious, more immediate and more unpredictable than at any time since the Cold War," as he launched the review in Glasgow. "We face war in Europe, new nuclear risks, daily cyber-attacks, growing Russian aggression in our waters, menacing our skies," he added. The Strategic Defence Review, which assesses threats facing the UK and makes recommendations, said that Britain is entering "a new era of threat". As a result, Starmer said his government aimed to deliver three "fundamental changes". "First, we are moving to war-fighting readiness as the central purpose of our armed forces," he said. "Every part of society, every citizen of this country, has a role to play, because we have to recognise that things have changed in the world of today. The front-line, if you like, is here," he added. Secondly, the prime minister insisted that UK defence policy will "always be NATO first", and finally that the UK "will innovate and accelerate innovation at a wartime pace so we can meet the threats of today and of tomorrow."

in mind of the spire idea of shortwing supremacy: what do they think of "atypical" shortwings, like divers?

their dominant ideology isn't one of simply "shortwing = best". they're also very xenophobic and that plays almost as much into how they view other people. a spire phocid is, to them, more respectable than a shortwing from the western continent. see, the spire is the world's only place of higher education. what this means in practicality is that spire civilians, a high % of which are shortwings, sure, but it's far from 100%, will view the rest of the world as something to be studied. obviously they believe they are the smartest, because for the love of god they need something to justify why they work themselves to death for professor approval for practically no reward other than a name change, but viewing other cultures and people through a scholarly lens can lead to those people becoming dehumanised (... for lack of a better term).

so to the question - if an atypical shortwing lives at the spire, that's great! if not, they're just primitive foreigners to be studied as novelty. after all we're calling them atypical, right?

qedivar himself, when he came to the spire, had the pleasure of being approached by a scholar who had published a thesis on qedivar's own dry breaks culture, which was wrong, and somewhat insensitive, and that scholar had been elevated to professor over it. he did issue a challenge over the legitimacy of that scholar's work and had it formally redacted which was very fun, but also pissed off a lot of people in the anthropology department which he had just joined.

A couple weeks ago I reviewed The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy and I have to say it is one of the best games I have ever played. It's witty, it's weird, it's filled with twists and revelations, it's amazing. I ended up having to review before I finished almost every ending but here weeks later I've finished a lot more of it and damn does it just get better and better.

Oh wow. Spirit Reborn (the original teaser has since been deleted) aka Khemjira Must Survive completely changed production companies and has been revived as Khemjira the Series by Mandee starring Namping Napatsakorn as Khemjira and Keng Harit as Parun.

I've just recently read the novel it's based on and it's an incredibly detailed horror novel steeped in Isan and (Thai) Buddhist folklore with very little BL stuff happening until the bonus chapters - presumably because it's not right for someone like Parun (a very respected practitioner of Buddhist "white magic") to consider or even get distracted by thoughts of that nature.

The original production received a lot of criticism for not sticking to the novel but I guess Mandee gets the Domundi bonus. Then again, Domundi isn't exactly known for... not being spicy. And here they can't even leave the spiciness to the side couple because they're Parun's students and have to adhere to the precepts too. Unless they rewrite the whole story - which would be a pity because it's so very clearly Buddhist and I really liked that about it.
