I've been thinking long and hard about what Dan Trachtenberg said about Dek and Thia's relationship and how it ties into a scene with a horse from Shadow of the Colossus. Having played the game multiple times as a kid, I know exactly what he's talking about.

Dek || Predator: Badlands

Okay, but imagine Thia "dying" in the movie, and Dek can't get over it, and his body keeps holding onto the memory of her in little ways.

Dek ducks instinctively, as if she’s still riding on his back. Mid-leap, he shifts his weight, adjusting for a passenger who’s no longer there. A shiver runs down his spine when he feels the wind on his neck because it used to signal that Thia was carefully fine-tuning her aim to hit the target behind him. His body holds onto the memory of her, and he's not ready to let go and move on just yet.

Maybe when her body starts to corrode and the internal systems deteriorate beyond repair, Dek stops carrying her around on his back. Maybe he keeps what's left of her tucked away in a safe spot in a dark part of his ship, so that once he's retrieved all the important parts, he can repair her and bring her back at long last.
