“Rock, (Toilet) Paper, Scissors”, 2020

“Rock, (Toilet) Paper, Scissors”, 2020 is a sculpture made for Marta Gallery (@marta.losangeles) and Plant Paper’s (@plant_paper) “UNDER / OVER” group exhibition of toilet paper holders, running from Sept. 10–Nov. 1., 2020.

Each edition of the work is made from two existing found objects: a pair of 11” Klein Scissors (with varying color handle), and a fiberglass faux rock.

Metroidvania set in the traditional ancient high-tech dungeon full of killer robots where after you defeat the boss of each sector the robots become peaceful and humans start moving back in, and there’s a whole second layer of gameplay revolving around helping people puzzle out the practical purpose of all the ridiculous murder machines you fought you way through on your first trip, and also listening to them complain about how impractical the architecture is.

These seemingly large-scale installations take natural phenomena and installation art to a whole new level. By paying attention to small detail, composition, placing a few humans for scale and taking low angle photographs DiMichele is able to capture larger-than-life artworks that resonates the viewer so they are forced to pay attention to detail all while subliminally tricked to the perceptual full-scale models.
