Lots of thoughts recently. Everything feels plastic.

I could go on and on about why all that AI "art" is bad. I could mention theft, lack of creativity, it's impact on the work field and environment, but countless people have already said all that. I wanted to touch on something that to me is the most utterly wrong about all of it.

Art is more than just something pretty to look at or listen to. It's therapeutic. It's a form of communication. A tool for human connection. It's a pure, human need.

A group of Wikipedia editors have formed WikiProject AI Cleanup, “a collaboration to combat the increasing problem of unsourced, poorly-written AI-generated content on Wikipedia.” The group’s goal is to protect one of the world’s largest repositories of information from the same kind of misleading AI-generated information that has plagued Google search results, books sold on Amazon, and academic journals. “A few of us had noticed the prevalence of unnatural writing that showed clear signs of being AI-generated, and we managed to replicate similar ‘styles’ using ChatGPT,” Ilyas Lebleu, a founding member of WikiProject AI Cleanup, told me in an email. “Discovering some common AI catchphrases allowed us to quickly spot some of the most egregious examples of generated articles, which we quickly wanted to formalize into an organized project to compile our findings and techniques.”

This is so real. Like I do not want to use AI and why exactly is that not an option. Whatever app you open 99% of them have AI. Facebook, Messenger, Instagram (so all meta apps), I often use Notion and it also has AI. Google has AI (which is wrong 99% of the time by simply being wrong or giving a completely different answer). And truly the fact that no one cares that AI is making us people lose critical thinking skills or the ability to do certain things on our own (cause wdym you ask ai to write you a grocery list? and for anything else you might “need from ai”? there is a non-ai alternative but yall are lazy and it’s not quirky) and it is contributing to the hot weather, taking away clean water to cool the systems down even in places that are very hot and then that water is needed and it’s not there because some guy decided he needs to ask ai to be their therapist, instead of going to an actual human being who has empathy or that girl who at this point cannot do school work without ai.

It is making yall stupider, it is taking water, it is stealing HUMAN work such as art or writing without giving credit or any kind of financial benefit for the authors. And it is everywhere. You cannot escape it. I have a kid in my family who had to make a comic for school using ai (those were the specific directions of the teacher) what happened to hand drawing them like i did as a child?

I wish there was a way to completely OPT OUT of AI. Like you could set your ENTIRE Internet browser to NOT shove it down your throat.

When social media was getting big, you could just NOT get a Facebook or a Twitter. It was simple as that. You can't do that with AI.

Trying to find a job? It goes straight to an AI filter. Trying to look at art? Here's 100+ ai shit. Trying to look up who was in what movie from the 1980s? GOOGLE GEMINI IS HERE WITH THE COMPLETELY WRONG ANSWER!

Someone PLEASE create a way to allow people to get AI the FUCK OUT of our lives if we DO NOT WANT IT!
