Peace of Mind in a Pocket: My Experience with the RFID Protector
In today's digital world, protecting our personal information is paramount. With the growing prevalence of contactless payment methods, the risk of electronic pickpocketing, also known as RFID skimming, becomes a concern. That's why I decided to invest in the RFID Protector, a product designed to safeguard my contactless cards.
Discreet Protection for Everyday Transactions
The RFID Protector is a slim and lightweight sleeve that easily fits into my wallet alongside my cards. It comes in various sizes to accommodate different card types, ensuring a comfortable and discreet addition to my everyday carry. The best part is that it doesn't interfere with the functionality of my contactless cards; I can still tap and pay with ease, knowing my information is shielded.
Blocking Unwanted Scans and Ensuring Security
The core function of the RFID Protector is to block unauthorized scans. The product utilizes a special material that creates a barrier, preventing radio waves from scanners from reaching the chip embedded in my contactless cards. This effectively shields my personal and financial information from potential thieves. While I haven't personally experienced any skimming attempts, the peace of mind this product offers is invaluable.
Multiple Layers of Protection for Added Security
Some RFID Protectors simply block radio waves, but the one I use boasts additional security features. It includes a layer that physically protects the card itself from bending or breaking, a common concern with contactless cards. Additionally, some versions offer a water-resistant layer for added protection against accidental spills or splashes. These additional features make the RFID Protector a well-rounded solution for safeguarding my cards.
A Convenient and Affordable Security Solution
The RFID Protector is a convenient and affordable way to enhance the security of my contactless cards. It's easy to use, integrates seamlessly with my existing wallet setup, and offers peace of mind without breaking the bank. For anyone who uses contactless payment methods, the RFID Protector is a worthwhile investment.
A Recommended Addition to Your Wallet
Overall, the RFID Protector has become an essential part of my wallet. It offers a discreet and effective solution for safeguarding my contactless cards, providing peace of mind during everyday transactions. While remaining vigilant is always important, the RFID Protector adds an extra layer of security in today's digital age. If you're looking for a convenient and affordable way to protect your contactless cards, I highly recommend the RFID Protector.

INFO - LIST FOR TRANSABLED AID ACCESS
A list of discreet access of assistive aids , ways to hide assistive aids , and euphoria inducing replacements .
Where to get assistive aids ?
01 , An obvious choice would be online shopping , although discreet shopping can be a bit difficult . Buying many things at once so you get a big / couple of packages could be a way to not turn any eyes , especially now that the holidays are coming up . " But I live with people who have the tendency of opening my packages " , there are a couple of options of what you can do - use a p.o box or locker service ( ex: amazon locker will send you an email with pickup instructions ) , choosing a specific delivery time of when you are only home / you have time to be the first one to pick it up ( tip : have delivery notifications on so you can be the first one to receive it ) , have delivery instructions to specify where to put the package ( ex : behind a pot plant , under the steps , etc ) , have it delivered to your friends / work . " But big shopping sites aren't safe for me " , Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist could be a better option for you , may be also safer as you can request the person selling you the item to make it discreet / can also be on the cheaper end , as they tend to be used . It can also be safer on the end of simply picking it up , making it so that there isn't any sort of electronic transaction that can be seen on a bank / phone receipt . 02 , Thrifted / Yard sales are also a good option - not only is it generally more discreet , allowing you to take it home by simply putting it in your bag without any other notice , but it's also generally cheaper , seeing that often times its used items still in a somewhat good condition . " What / where do I look for ? " , I would often suggest Goodwill , as they tend to have a wider range of mobility aids . You can also find them at your local small shops - try calling ahead and asking if they have anything , as they mostly will have more time to look through their storage . " How do I know it's worth it ? " , shopping out is a greater option as you can test out if the aid is good for you . When shopping for aids , test if they are sturdy , if they are the right size for you / there is any ability to diy fix it to your measurements , and how you would be able to put it away / hide it .
When it comes to what sort of aid is the most discreet : Canes : foldable canes are the most discreet , they are compact and are able to be carried in a bag . Double use canes , such as umbrella canes , are also discreet in the sense of being able to play it off as just an umbrella . Rollator : also good to consider a foldable rollators / walkers , ones that also have a seat can be passed off as just portable seats . Wheelchairs : Wheelchairs , unless you live in a spacious area without any judging eyes , are hard to turn discreet . While folding wheelchairs are a thing , plus lightweight ones - like most wheelchairs , they are expensive , and often are badly fitted / uncomfortable . ++ temporary replacements are a better option . Hearing Aids : Hearing Aids kept in their case can very easily be passed out as to be wireless earbuds / there are many hearing aids that resemble simple ear buds. Although , Hearing Aids bought online aren't the most reliable , and may be even dangerous - so temporary / thrifted replacement is a better option .
Where do I hide my aids if I am in an unsafe environment ?
While hiding things from the people you live with can be draining , it is still suggested for your safety .
01 , Folding Aids - Any aid that is able to be neatly folded and easily stored is the best when it comes to hiding . Placing them in bags in also the best , as you are able to take them out once you leave your place . Another way would be having a designated spot outside your place , where you can easily access it once you are out . More ways of hiding them : in drawers , unused umbrella holders , under your mattress , in coat hoodies , old shoe boxes .
02 , Aids with Wheels - While trickier , definitely able . The biggest suggestion is to have folding versions . You can fold them and store in the back of your closet along the wall . You can put it on the frame of your bed and put a mattress over it . If you have a rug , putting it specifically near / under your bed , and then the aid right under the rub can also be an option . If you have a dresser , sliding it between the wall and the dresser's side can help . On top of closets can also be good . When needing to store it for outside use , big portfolios could fit them . 03 , Hearing Aids - Probably the easiest to hide as they resemble ear buds . Although getting custom / decorated cases can be good for disguising them . Nonetheless , if needed , hiding them in small pockets of backpacks , coat pockets , pencil cases can be extra security . " What if I immediately need to hide something for my safety ? " , when opening your drawer - look past the drawer / take it out , you will see that there is room on the inside of the frame , even with the drawers fully closed . You can throw any smaller sized aid in that space , and then simply take out the drawers to take it back when ready . Another way for more bigger aids - take out all of the drawers from a dresser , put the aid inside , then put the drawers back in . If the back of your dresser is a softer material that's able to be cut , cut a ⊏ shape so that it creates a flap , put your aid in and tape the flap , put your dresser back up on the wall - the flap is an easier access than taking out all drawers . Although if you feel like you are in immediate danger for having an assistive aid in your home , prioritize your safety and take the aid out of your home . You are worth more than something that you will be 100% able to get back in the future < 3
DIY - ING
Everyone should be able to have access to assistive aids - even when it comes to creating their own .
Folding Crutches . ( need to already have simple crutches ) Cane out of yardsticks . ++ easier , You can make a cane by taking hard pvc pipe , sealing the bottom + adding a stopper ( shaped rubber or foam ) , while at the top you cut out to sides of a handle - a top and bottom , glue it with hot glue and attach it.
While it may not be as sturdy - it's still a good alternative .
More affordable assistive aid shopping :
essentailaids.com , affordable canes / crutches / walkers - lots of accessories , has wheelchairs too .
mobilityshop.co.uk , also affordable AND a huge range , so you have some options . Also offers accessories and some more simpler accessibility aids .
argos.co.uk , on the more pricier end yet still quite affordable , also offers joints support and braces .
abilitysuperstore.com , while not as affordable as other sites , still has a pretty decent price range - but has way more options to offer .

The AirTag Collar: A Smart Solution for Tracking Your Pet

In a world where technology continues to simplify our lives, Apple’s AirTag has emerged as a game-changer for keeping tabs on everyday items. From keys to backpacks, this tiny Bluetooth tracker has found a new and popular application: the AirTag collar. Designed primarily for pets, this innovative accessory combines style, functionality, and peace of mind for pet owners everywhere.
What is an AirTag Collar?
An AirTag collar is a pet collar equipped with a slot or attachment to hold an Apple AirTag, a coin-sized device that uses Bluetooth and Apple’s Find My network to track its location. Unlike traditional GPS trackers, the AirTag leverages a vast network of Apple devices worldwide to anonymously ping its location, making it a lightweight and cost-effective alternative for pet tracking.
While Apple doesn’t officially market AirTags for pets, creative pet owners and accessory makers have embraced the idea, leading to a surge in AirTag-compatible collars available in various materials, from durable nylon to sleek leather.
How Does It Work?
The AirTag collar operates seamlessly with the Find My app on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Once the AirTag is paired with your Apple account and secured to the collar, you can track your pet’s location in real time if they’re within Bluetooth range (about 30 feet). If your furry friend wanders farther, the Find My network kicks in, using nearby Apple devices to relay the AirTag’s location back to you—no subscription fees required.
For precision tracking, the AirTag also features Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology (on compatible iPhones), guiding you with directional arrows to your pet’s exact spot. Plus, if your pet is close but hidden—say, under the couch—you can trigger the AirTag’s built-in speaker to play a sound, making retrieval a breeze.
Benefits of an AirTag Collar
Affordable Tracking: At around $29 per AirTag, it’s a one-time purchase compared to GPS collars that often require monthly fees.
Long Battery Life: The AirTag’s replaceable CR2032 battery lasts up to a year, minimizing maintenance.
Discreet Design: Small and lightweight, it won’t weigh down your pet or feel bulky on their collar.
Global Reach: With millions of Apple devices worldwide, the Find My network offers impressive coverage, especially in urban areas.
Limitations to Consider
While the AirTag collar is a brilliant concept, it’s not without drawbacks. It relies on proximity to Apple devices, so tracking may falter in remote areas with few users. It’s also not a real-time GPS solution—updates depend on when the AirTag pings a nearby device. Additionally, Apple warns that AirTags weren’t designed for pets, so ensuring a secure fit is crucial to prevent loss or discomfort.
Popular AirTag Collar Options
The market has responded enthusiastically, with brands offering stylish and practical collars tailored for AirTags:
Belkin Secure Holder with Collar Attachment: A simple, affordable clip-on solution.
TagVault Pet Collar Mount: A rugged, waterproof holder for active pets.
Handmade Leather Collars: Etsy sellers provide custom designs blending fashion and function.
Is It Right for You?
The AirTag collar is ideal for pet owners who want a low-cost, low-maintenance way to monitor their cat or dog, especially in busy neighborhoods. It’s less suited for rural adventurers or those needing constant, precise tracking—traditional GPS trackers might be a better fit there.
Final Thoughts
The AirTag collar exemplifies how everyday tech can adapt to solve real-world problems. For the price of a coffee run, you can outfit your pet with a smart tracking system that offers reassurance without complexity. Whether your cat’s a backyard explorer or your dog’s a master escape artist, the AirTag collar might just be the perfect blend of innovation and practicality.

And the Starlight Kissed Your Face Again

For @reverie-tales
Read on Ao3
Summary: There’s nothing more special to Rhys and Feyre than spending Starfall with their family, but then they also don’t hesitate to take a few moments of alone time when someone so kindly offers to keep an eye on their children.
Nothing could quite match the buzzing excitement of a sunset on Starfall evening, a blanket of stars replacing the dusk light. Another hour or two and the migration would begin. Laughter and merriment were overflowing—as was the wine they'd brought out for the occassion. Feyre was already feeling the first glass hit her when her mate returned to her with a fresh flute. "Oh no. Food first, Rhys. We have kids to watch and you know I'm a lightweight."
Several squeals cut through the music and chatter surrounding them and a moment later she found their two children weaving through the crowd on quick feet, Vivian and Kallias' daughter on their heels. "The children are minding themselves, darling. Neither of them are going to fall off of the balcony with wards in place. Relax." The glasses vanished from his hands and she was in his arms once again. "It's Starfall, my love. Dance with me."
She sighed. The kids were safe and having fun and Feyre and Rhys knew every person around them by name. He was right.
"I'm always right, darling."
She laughed aloud at that. "Hardly. But you can keep dreaming."
He leaned down to kiss her, putting an end to her quips and letting her melt against him. She'd never tire of this. Never stop drowning in the taste of him. "Is there a moment we might have a chance of seeing you two with your faces detached?"
She broke the kiss, wincing slightly before the intruding voice processed. "Lucien! You're here!" Rhys scowled when she squirmed out of his hold, but released her in the end so she could welcome Elain and Lucien with a hug. "It feels like ages since I've seen you."
His lips ticked up when she withdrew to embrace her sister. "It's been a busy few months, I'll admit. But we wouldn't dare miss Starfall."
She beamed, squeezing her sister's hand. "And how have you been, Elain?"
"Tired," her sister admitted, pressing her hand to her swollen belly with a smile, "but excited all the same. I can't believe I only have a few months left. The time's flown."
After being mated for nearly four years now, Elain and Lucien had been blessed with their first child. Tucked away in Day, the pair had been discreet in the early weeks, but nothing stayed quiet for long between sisters. Especially since they'd become closer and started writing after Elain and Lucien were mated and began residing in the Day Court. It had taken time, but they were all better for the healing they'd finally achieved together. "So, tell me what you've been up to, Elain. I've hardly heard a peep since your last visit."
"I'm sorry. I've been a bit distracted, preparing for the baby. The nursery design is about the only thing I get to lift a finger on nowadays. You warned me he'd be overbearing, but I didn't realize it would be so ridiculous." Rhys and Lucien both frowned, looking ready to defend their actions, only to be interrupted by high-pitched squeals and the staccato of little feet running across the red stone floor. Her sister staggered back slightly when Nyx made impact, now tall enough to wrap his arms around her middle while little Roxana could only reach her skirts. Their mouths were already running a mile a minute. Feyre had to give her credit, considering she couldn't catch more than a few words out of the jumble as their mother. "That is quite a tale," she replied when they finally stopped to breathe. "You'll have to tell us more while we're here with you. Why don't you two give Uncle Lucien a hug now."
Scurrying over, they flung themselves at Lucien with equal enthusiasm. He grinned right back, ruffling Nyx's dark hair and hoisting Roxana up with one arm. "You've gotten bigger, little girl. How tall are you now, hm?" With the kids well on their way to complete distraction, Feyre caught Elain making a little shooing motion. Go on, she mouthed. Feyre tried to protest, but Rhys was already herding her closer to the edge of the party to winnow away a bit more discreetly.
"Only a few minutes, Rhys," she mumbled when his magic cleared from around them. "They aren't here to watch the kids."
"Of course, darling." He already had her against the wall behind them, breath hot against her neck before his mouth closed over her pulse, pinching down. She bit her lip to keep from crying out and alerting the party above to exactly what was going on. "There's a shield in place already."
"W-what?"
"Don't try to hide a sound from me, mate." Gently pulling her away from the wall, he threaded his fingers through her hair, her next groan silenced by his lips on hers. "Every day you look so damn beautiful. Every day I think my life can't get any more perfect. And every day you prove me wrong." With her next breath she was being guided down to her back, his hand still cradling her head to keep it from knocking back onto the stone. One hand fell to her ankle, his loose hold gliding up her leg to raise the hem off her dress little by little, placing tender kisses and bites along the way. "Let me take you beneath the stars, Feyre."
She couldn't deny this. Couldn't deny him. He hummed into her mind, pleased when the fabric of her dress passed her waist. His fingers traced the edge of her panties before slipping beneath them. "These are new. Too pretty to ruin just yet." In the last eight years of their mating they had to have set some sort of record in lingerie sales with how many sets he'd either misted or ripped to shreds. But that was her last concern now that he had two thick fingers pumping a slow, torturous rhythm inside of her. "Oh," she groaned. Her hips jerked upward and he chuckled, doing nothing to quicken the pace, content to maintain his steady pace until it drove her to her undoing. "Rhys."
"Yes?" he purred, appearing entirely unruffled. She knew better. Knew him better than anyone.
Jerking him down by the back of his neck, she pulled him close, nearly shivering at the feeling of his chuckle against her neck. "Fill me up, please. I need to feel you inside of me."
He cursed, low and filthy. She had him now. "My sweet little mate, so wet for me." A snap and their clothes were folded up in a neat pile nearby, his hard length pushing into her in one steady stroke. She clenched down hard, shaking like a leaf as his hips forced her to open for him. "Fuck. Tight little cunt, taking me so well."
He drew back a few inches, snapping his hips forward sharply enough to force a hoarse cry from her lips. "Rhys!"
"You can take it, darling." Slow and brutal would be his game tonight. She whimpered under the next stroke, but he didn't stop, didn't gentle or change his pace. She'd even take a hard fucking right now. Anything but this sluggish climb to insanity. Rhys reached out to tweek her nipple and she gripped his shoulders hard, knowing her nails had to be breaking skin. "Good girl. You just hold onto me nice and tight while I take care of you." His mouth came down to sooth the sting and she shuddered again.
"Rhys, more, please."
Raising his head again he pressed the softest kiss to her jaw, then her nose, and finally her mouth. Gripping her hips tight, he rocked into her a little faster, at last building the friction between them. Lips otherwise occupied, he spoke into her mind once again. "Come for me, mate."
She spiraled up higher and higher, praying his shield had held when her scream pierced the air and she came crashing down, her reality lost to sensation. Rhys was close behind, buried deep inside of her as he finally reached his release. "Cauldron, Feyre."
Feyre moaned again as he rolled his hips through the last of his orgasm before withdrawing slowly and easing her up and into his arms, murmuring soft praise in her ear as she finally gathered her senses. "There they are," he whispered. And peeling her eyes open, she was met with the most exquisite Starfall yet. "I haven't seen a migration like this in nearly a century."
Raising her head from his chest, she eyed their folded clothes then glanced up to where their family waited for them beyond the red stone and sound shield. "Still want to dance with me tonight?"
A few moments later they had almost rid themselves of the evidence of what they'd done. Returning to the party, Feyre let him pull her in close, kissing her forehead. And as their children found them again she felt the starlight dance on her skin. And she did not try to hide it, for her joy could not be contained.

🧐 psychological profile
psych eval tags: compassionate, resilient reprimands: [redacted] — see file: behavioral note w-089 (“insecure & naive conduct”)
scorch is an atypical asset in wrath: emotionally transparent, idealistic, and highly reactive under stress. while mutation enhanced his capacity for devastation, his primary instinct remains preservation—of others, not himself.
subject entered training as a baseline human and completed two years of conditioning prior to mutation. initial simulations revealed a tendency toward impulsive overcommitment, often in defense of others or due to perceived failure.
post-mutation pyrokinesis is deeply tied to emotional state. fluctuations in confidence, fear, or guilt directly influence fire intensity and control. despite this instability, subject has shown significant loyalty and cohesion within his squad.
scorch exhibits subconscious insecurity regarding his place in the agency, often masking uncertainty with reckless optimism. ongoing mentorship is strongly recommended. subject responds well to affirmation and structured guidance.
🔬 ability overview
primary mutation: pyrokinesis
secondary traits: • tactical demolitions • squad-level flame shielding (short duration) • rapid ignition under duress
limitations: • emotional surges affect flame control • risk of oxygen depletion in confined spaces • severe dehydration and fatigue post-burnout
🧠 tactical profile
division expertise • athletics • close combat mastery
selected expertise • pain tolerance
proficiencies • battlefield endurance • perception • environmental adaptation • insight • biochemistry & medicine
deficiencies • stealth & infiltration • cryptograms & codebreaking
🛠️ equipment & suit design
scorch’s suit is engineered for thermal extremes, close-quarters movement, and accidental ignition suppression.
construction: deep burgundy fire-resistant composite weave, reinforced with lightweight, heat-dispersing armor plating. color palette: ultra-dark oxblood with ember-thread seams that glow subtly under thermal surge.
key features: • integrated heat-regulation gloves • micro-cooling mesh underarmor • belt-mounted oxygen rebreather unit • discreet flame-channeling nodes embedded in gauntlets for control and dispersal
the suit reflects scorch’s core identity: a weaponized inferno bound in restraint.
📂 field notes — background profile
subject is the product of an extramarital affair, raised solely by his mother. fractured home dynamics instilled a persistent need for belonging and a strong internal drive to protect others.
prior to recruitment, subject was a licensed paramedic, specializing in emergency trauma and high-risk disaster response. field records show exceptional composure, deep compassion, and instinctive prioritization of others’ safety—even at personal risk.
pandora identified subject during civilian resilience profiling and initiated training. mutation surfaced post-induction during a high-stress simulation, triggering uncontrolled combustion and resulting in immediate wrath assignment.
scorch is currently in provisional field deployment. emotional volatility remains a concern, and enhanced psychological monitoring protocols are in place.

Out running errands and events maybe even at work does Connor carry a little emergency med kit to keep her stable enough to get help? Also, what would be in there?
Pocket Precautions
Summary: Whether they’re out running errands, at a formal event, or she’s just meeting him for coffee between shifts, Connor Rhodes always has a discreet med kit on him—designed specifically for her. It’s compact, tucked into a slim bag or inside his jacket pocket, and full of the exact things he might need to stabilize her in a crisis long enough to get her help. And one afternoon at a grocery store, that’s exactly what he has to do.
Connor never left the apartment without it.
It wasn’t big—just slightly larger than a glasses case. It had a clip so he could attach it to his work bag or slip it into the inside pocket of his sport coat. Lightweight. Discreet.
Inside?
Everything that could mean the difference between stable and spiraling:
• A pre-filled syringe of Zofran for nausea.
• One of her low-dose beta blockers, in injectable form.
• A 10cc saline flush with an alcohol wipe, ready for her port.
• A spare butterfly needle.
• A dissolvable electrolyte tab.
• A glucose gel pack (because crashes liked to blur the lines).
• A small cooling towel.
• Her emergency meds card with dosing info and her primary specialists listed.
• And a mini finger pulse oximeter.
He rotated it out weekly. Double-checked expiration dates. Restocked religiously.
It was never for treatment.
It was to buy time.
And one Saturday afternoon, in the checkout line of a busy Trader Joe’s, it became exactly that.
They’d had a good day—three errands down, a bookshop stop, and now, groceries. Y/N had been quiet but chipper, dressed in her soft jeans and loose sweatshirt, sipping on an iced tea and joking with Connor about which snacks were “probably worth dying for.”
He should’ve seen the signs earlier. Her hands were colder than usual. She’d stopped sipping her drink. Her smile had faded by the second aisle.
But it wasn’t until they were at the checkout, and she swayed on her feet, that his instincts screamed.
“Connor,” she whispered, fingers curling in his coat. “I can’t—”
He caught her just before her knees gave out.
She was half-slumped against him as he guided her to the side wall of the store, kneeling down beside her. A few concerned shoppers lingered, but he gave a sharp “I’m a doctor—please clear some space,” and they backed off immediately.
Her face was pale. Pulse was racing.
He pulled the mini kit from inside his coat pocket like muscle memory.
Port flush.
Beta blocker.
Zofran.
O2 sat: 93%.
BP: 86/52.
She was close—too close.
He lifted her legs onto his thigh, holding her steady as he delivered the meds and wiped her clammy forehead.
“You’re okay,” he whispered. “I’ve got you, sweetheart.”
Her breathing hitched—but started to slow.
Ten minutes later, she was stable enough to sit upright.
Connor helped her drink water laced with the electrolyte tab and kept an arm around her waist the whole time. He called Ava from the car, just to report the event, and promised he’d bring her home instead of to Med—if her vitals held.
Y/N leaned her head on his shoulder on the ride back.
“You carry that every time we leave the house?”
He nodded, eyes still on the road. “Every time.”
“You’re kind of ridiculous.”
He smiled. “I love you too.”
Because to everyone else, it looked like a small, unassuming case.
But to Connor, it was her lifeline.
And if it gave her a few more safe minutes—
It was worth carrying for the rest of his life.

𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐅 𝐇𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘 //
lucian was born to henry and alvita st. sauvin in 1991. the fourth child, second son. his father, an intelligent and enterprising young man, accepted a professional opportunity in new york and uprooted the family in 2002. they were a close knit family and totally relied on on another in this strange new home. henry jr, the oldest son, was more outgoing than them all. he threw himself into basketball and harbored dreams of joining the nba. lucian preferred solitary sports and ran track.
they were happy in new york for only two years before tragedy struck. during a pickup game in the bronx, lucian and his older brother were caught in the crossfire of a shooting. several bystanders were hit twice. lucian and henry were counted among them. while lucian survived his injuries, his older brother did not. henry st. sauvin jr. died shielding his younger brother.
his death shattered everything. his parents were divorced within the year, and lucian -- wracked with guilt and regret -- became even more lonely. the loss of his brother and a stable family unit shaped him but he learned not to speak his hurt. there was always someone hurting more than he was. someone who deserved to be heard. despite the setbacks, he grew up well. intelligent beyond belief with a memory that was damn near photographic. he could have become anything. a professor, a businessman, an engineer. but lucian wanted to be a doctor. he wanted to live a life of service. after all, henry saved him so it had to be for a reason. he couldn't waste the life his older brother had given to him.
lucian studied obsessively. from townsend to columbia to the icahn school to residency. his ambition was clear. he even married young, at twenty-three, determined to create a family. he was speeding through life's achievements in search of something he couldn’t name. for a while, it worked. but eventually -- something had to slip through his fingers. and it was his wife. seven years in, it ended quietly -- the way he does most things. no drama, no fanfare. just...quiet. he's been alone ever since.
now thirty-three, divorced and emotionally disciplined to a fault, luke devotes himself wholly to emergency medicine. it's the only place he feels useful, alive, and in control. in the trauma bay, everything has a name. a code. a fix. and that's the way life should be.

Smith and Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Review by Craft Holsters
Compact design tailored for deep concealment
The Smith and Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 is a micro-compact .380 Auto pistol built for everyday carry and backup defense. Released in 2024, this updated version improves on the original with a snag-free design, simplified controls, and a reworked grip texture for better ergonomics. With a 2.75-inch barrel, 10+1 round capacity, and lightweight 9.8-ounce frame, it’s optimized for pocket or ankle holsters. While its heavy double-action trigger may slow rapid-fire accuracy, its size and safety-focused features make it a strong choice for concealed carry permit holders and off-duty professionals.
Specs, performance, and everyday practicality
The Bodyguard 2.0 balances durable construction with carry-friendly specs, including a stainless steel slide and polymer frame. Though basic factory sights and the lack of an accessory rail limit customization, users can enhance performance with upgrades like Talon grip tape, night sights, or a custom IWB holster. Whether you’re seeking minimal footprint or added peace of mind, the Bodyguard 2.0 delivers simplicity and reliability in a discreet package. Thousand Cranes (千羽鶴) 1969 dir. Yasuzo Masumura

status: completed - download here
・The film starts with Kikuji realising he's walked unknowingly into an o-miai, which is an arranged meeting between two people for the purpose of getting engaged and married. At the beginning of the film, although admittedly a little rough, I managed to translate this custom with a line including the phrase "wife candidate" - mainly because it fits with Kikuji's tone in Japanese for the line - but later on, at around 17 minutes in, there is a line where it becomes very difficult timing-wise to translate o-miai without resorting to a long-winded English phrase, so I opted to use the succinct proper noun "o-miai".
・A furoshiki cloth is a traditional Japanese piece of cloth material used to wrap things when carrying them, or to be discreet about a package's contents.
・The traditional art of the tea ceremony has a central role in the film, and a lot of narrative themes both stem from tea ceremony aesthetic and play with their traditions. Tea cups particularly are almost like supporting characters, and the way they look and feel are indeed important when conducting a tea ceremony. The film constantly refers to the style/finish of certain tea cups used for tea ceremony: Shino ware(shino-yaki, 志野焼)is probably the one most referred to, as well as Karatsu(karatsu-yaki, 唐津焼) and Oribe(oribe-yaki, 織部焼) ware also appears. With the exception of the Oribe style, it's fairly simple to get an idea of what these finishes look like just by watching the film, but here's some additional information for those interested. - Shino ware: originally from Gifu. most commonly a whiteish, rustic glaze, but can be other colors. Shino items are usually smaller, squat & lightweight. often utilize defects in the glaze that look like little spots for extra wabi-sabi effect, which can be seen in the film as well - particularly the water server used for flowers at Mrs. Ota's memorial. - Karatsu ware: originally from Saga. can come in a range of both light and dark colors, but is most commonly associated with a brown/blackish, earthy rustic flavor largely due to the iron in the clay used. evidently one of the most popular types of tea ceremony ware. - Oribe ware: a lighter, more expressive type of finish than the rustic nature of Shino and Karatsu. usually associated with a greenish emerald glaze and hand-painted designs, though lots of different subgenres of Oribe as well - the Oribe featured in the film looks as if the glaze is almost black, and has no particular painted design.
・Chazuke (or o-chazuke, literally "submerged in tea") is a common, modest Japanese dish that is usually made by pouring a small amount of green tea in to a bowl of rice. It usually serves almost as a snack rather than a full meal, but can be made to be a bit more filling by adding things like vegetables, pickles, or fish.
・ Senmaizuke are pickled turnips sliced thinly into largish pieces. They're also a little spicy, and are part of the well-known category of kyo-yasai 京野菜, or Kyoto vegetables.
・For the entirety of the film Ayako Wakao's character is solely referred to as Mrs. Ota - Ota no oku-san 太田の奥さん, the "wife of Mr. Ota" - and it's hard to ignore the nuance that prefix/pronoun conventions in Japanese lends to how her character is portrayed. Whereas in English we might distinguish between two members of the same family by using first names, it's more polite in Japanese (especially regarding females) to use words that denote their familial relationship - both Chikako (Ms. Kurimoto) and Kikuji usually use the word oku-san 奥さん ("the wife") when speaking directly to Mrs. Ota, and the standard Ota no oku-san when talking about her when she's not present - there's never really an instance where she is just plain Ota-san. In other words, her character is always defined by her marital status, which is easy for Chikako to weaponize against Kikuji. Her daughter, Fumiko, on the other hand, is by default referred to by her first name, but often with the added suffix o-jou-san お嬢さん (literally 'young lady', but also an honorific to refer to someone else's daughter, though not in use much today). There's an interesting play on this convention in two scenes involving Kikuji at home with his father's old woman housekeeper, who at first opts to use the aptly formal Ota-sama 太田様 naming convention for when Mrs. Ota visits, which results in Kikuji not knowing whether she means Mrs. Ota or her daughter. Kikuji's father also mentions earlier in a flashback that Mr. Ota was a close friend of his, so my personal reading of the old maid's behavior in this scene is that she's either trying to infer distance between Kikuji and Mrs. Ota, or she's unsure of just how close they are and simply assumes it's the same kind of relationship as Kikuji's father and Mr. Ota. Hearing Mrs. Ota referred to with a naming convention that would equate to something like "The Honorary Ota" obviously catches him off-guard, and instantly thinks she's referring to the most distant Ota to him at that point: Fumiko. It can then be discerned early on in the development of the relationship between Kikuji and Fumiko that he, perhaps subconsciously, feels much more comfortable steering away from the Ota family name and solely refers to her as Fumiko. There's then a second instance that we see the old maid announcing a visitor's arrival at the house to Kikuji, but this time she uses the phrase Ota-san no o-jou-sama 太田さんのお嬢様, which is interesting because to Kikuji and the maid "Ota-san" isn't necessarily who Mrs. Ota ("Oku-san", or "Ota no oku-san") is - it's probably closer to Mr. Ota if anything. In any case, I've mostly managed to navigate all these Japanese naming conventions by using the tried and true English marital pronouns outlined below: Ota no oku-san = literally 'the wife of Ota', so Mrs. Ota Kurimoto-san = unmarried older woman, so Ms. Kurimoto Ota no o-jou-san = the 'young (unmarried) daughter of Ota', so Miss Ota (also used this for Kikuji's o-miai partner Miss Inamura, but she's sometimes also referred to as Yumiko-san)
・During one of the last scenes between Kikuji and Mrs. Ota, Kikuji uses this strange phrase to refer to Mrs. Ota's beauty: ningen izen no onna--ie...ningen saigo no onna 人間以前の女・・・いえ、人間最後の女 - which literally translates to "like a woman from before humans existed -- no...like the last woman on Earth". There doesn't seem to be much context for this, and it felt clumsy when I translated it as is, so I opted to go for a more flowery turn of phrase: "like Eve, the first woman...or - the very pinnacle of the human race". I wonder if this line appears in Kawabata's novel?
・When Kikuji goes to visit Fumiko after her mother dies, one of the first things he says is "It's already been a week, hasn't it?" In Japanese, it's a little more specific: he mentions that the day he's visiting is hitonanoka 一七日 (literally "the first 7 days"), an auspicious day in Buddhism that falls on the seventh day after someone's death.
・Displaying a large portrait photo of the deceased as a centerpiece of a memorial at a funeral, etc. is standard practice in Japan, but usually the subject is looking straight at the camera - i.e., they're looking straight at the mourners that have come to say goodbye. This kind of context is in my opinion necessary to understand more about why Kikuji and Fumiko spend so long talking about Mrs. Ota's memorial portrait, particularly given the fact we see her almost in profile, and with an unusual head and eye angle.
・Though I am in no way an expert on the art of the tea ceremony, I'd strongly encourage anyone interested in the tea aspect of the film to read more into it - particularly anything on the life of tea master Sen no Rikyu. The filmmakers have gone to great lengths to honor the tradition of tea ceremony in this film, to the extent that the iemoto 家元, or head of the Urasenke 裏千家 school of tea ceremony - one of the most well-known - at the time of filming, Sen Soushitsu, was credited as being "tea ceremony supervisor".
