With what I know of the moon I suspect the sun is just a mad scientist jerk but I do really like the idea of him caring for the Bazaar but sending her away to delay any confrontation about their feelings (and place on The Chain).

Why does the Bazaar feel he'll die from the other star's rejection? Maybe he's just been waiting for her to return. She bought all this time and cries it will never be enough, but maybe he knew he'd be rejected. Maybe he was also buying time.
