It is truly amazing how different the aura of all of his characters is. He becomes them. And at the same time, incredibly, his characters all profit from the gentleness and sweetness that surrounds HIM as a person. I don‘t know how to describe it any differently. He becomes them but gives them his humanity and general air of innocence.

He also has 30 director credits, from the same 1956 documentary to the same 2011 documentary. His other notable director credits include four National Geographic specials, Short Eyes, One Trick Pony, The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez, Dominick and Eugene, Talent for the Game, and five episodes of Battlestar Galactica.

He has nine credits as a writer, from 1956 to 1982. Robert turned 99 on Nov 22, 2023.

the last baratheon bros fill i wrote was sort of inspired by this movie. i saw this movie first on a plane with my sister. we did not purchase the headphones (no credit cards then) but we were totally engrossed, actually weeping uncontrollably at many points in the movie. in hindsight, it was embarassing but then, wedged in the center seat, i just had so many feelings that i could not contain. i was like the mount vesulvius of snot and tears!
