Monty yawning and rubbing his sunglasses-obscured eyes as he goes down the stairs to the living room in the morning only for it to dawn on him that something is very, very wrong. And he doesn't even need his scanners to determine what it is.
The Christmas tree
Is
GONE.
They've been robbed! And not just their family either, nobody in town has their tree up! Monty even saw some of them in the trash! How could somebody throw out a Christmas tree like some sort of dead plant???
He asks the other Seraphim and their trees are all gone too. Apparently Christmas trees aren't an all-year thing. Which makes Monty remember that his parents said something last night about taking the tree down but he was too distracted by Sora Warrior of the Sea to really process what they were saying. And really why would you plant a tree in your house if you weren't going to commit to it for the long haul.
Gabe and Gryphon were the only ones whose tree was still standing. Or at least it was until they accidentally set the whole thing on fire with their back flames while running around the main tent that morning (the ornaments were fine, Mihawk chopped all the branches containing them and caught them before they hit the ground bc of course he did, it's Mihawk).
I can just hear the wails of confusion. What do you mean the Christmas trees are only for Christmas?? Why wouldn’t you want something so beautiful and bright in your house all the time?! What happened to proper home decor?? Having your own personal style?? Does Feng Shui mean nothing to you people?!?!
All the Seraphims get explanations but only Jimmy really seems to accept it! Bonney? Not so much. Monty is marching around the house demanding the reinstatement of the tree! Thea is fully going on strike and is taking Hestia and all her pretty gems with her! Ashken is hard at working trying to make his own Christmas tree out of just about anything Perona hasn’t taken out of reach! And Jinta!….he actually just misses the shining and sparkly lights. Nemo was pretty torn up about the whole thing which Crocodile quickly notice and snuck him off some ornaments which has worked pretty well so far.
The tree at Karai Bari stands as their last bastion of holiday hope, Gabe and Gryphon are gonna protect at all costs! They consider the tree their treasure and no pirate worth his salt, sugar or any spice would let someone take their treasure! They constantly circle the tree, pout-glaring at any and all suspicious activity until that little accident occurs. They’re very distressed about it and tearfully wonder if Santa is gonna hate them for hurting the tree but Mihawk quickly reassures them that they’re children. Their job is to make messes and mischief wherever they roam and Old Saint Nick of all people would understand that.
They cheer up after that and head off to go clean off, leaving Mihawk with the sudden realization that with the holiday season now truly over and done with, the boys will quickly be consumed by how dull January can be.
“Oh dear…”

The Donquixote Family is effectively dead now in its entirety.
The infamous pirate crew got pummeled in Dressrosa and virtually every member is either locked up in Impel Down or six feet under (I like to think Diamante is one of the dead ones, he snapped his neck on Scarlet's grave).
The last of the Donquixotes on Mariejois, and the last one clinging to their humanity at that, was recently killed by Garling.
Doflamingo doesn't know it yet, but even if he does get out of Impel Down, he won't live long enough to enjoy it. There's no shortage of powerful people who want him dead, and if he escapes then, the sinking world and the 'old gods' the Celestial Dragons supplanted will not let him escape punishment.
And Monty? Monty doesn't carry the Donquixote name, not that he would be accepted anyway due to him also having the blood of the 'false gods' that were the Lunarians running through his veins. But that's more than fine. The boy is a clean slate. He has a mother and a father, neither of whom he shares blood with. He has a little sister he shares partial blood with. He has memories of a clumsy man who he would have liked to be his uncle, and if not for him saving Lami's template all those years ago, they wouldn't get to live together in peace now.
None of Mariejois' toxicity will ever seep into him. He is truly free.
The Donquixote were a family of detractors, Mjosgard, Homing, Rosinante, even Doflamingo to a degree were the only ones the world new because their actions were still so fresh.
It’s strange to think this family survived so long in a place like the Holy Land, compassion still running in their veins…
Monty knew the name needed to die. It would do nothing but haunt him, even if he changed it for the better. No, the Donquixote family and bloodline were- as far as he knew- at a dead end.
He doesn’t know quite how to feel about it. How many of his template’s kin- his template among them- could have been saved if the chasm-spectrum of humanity had been a little bit closer.
How many could have been good people?
It doesn’t matter now, he supposes. There are more important things to worry about. Like giving Lami all the love a little sister could ever ask for.

Trailer: 'The Man Who Killed Don Quixote' Could (Potentially) See the Light of Day
Check out the trailer for The Man Who Killed Don Quixote! The film has been 25 years in the making, and stars #AdamDriver! #TheManWhoKilledDonQuixote #DonQuixote
For fans of the Monty Python comedian and director Terry Gilliam, the idea of seeing The Man Who Killed Don Quixote remains extremely alluring. For those unaware, Gilliam has been trying to get the film made and released for decades. A rotating group of performers have taken on roles in this film, only for the film to get delayed and pushed back. At one point, it was seen as a potential vehicle…

So here's a funny twist of fate, Monty's mother Isabella's family is from Dressrosa. They're blacksmiths who left the country a few decades back to expand their business throughout the New World, which is how Isabella came to live on Gospoll Island (a combination of Goshawks and Redpolls, both birds who live in snowy environments as a nod to Swallow Island where Law and Corazon's story came to a heartbreaking end).
Isabella doesn't pretend to understand everything about 'genetic memory' or the full extent of the evil Doflamingo has spread both as a warlord and as Joker, but she's a very intelligent woman and knows that because of that her son probably isn't going to be welcome in Dressrosa for quite some time. Maybe years.
So she teaches him what she can about their ancestral home, speaks to him in the native language and tells him to be kind to any little fairies with fluffy tails he meets.
They along with Richard, a weaver by trade, live a life very similar to the one Kyros, Scarlet, and Rebecca lived and she has no idea how ironic that is.
It’s by no means a simple life, it can’t be with a cybernetic child to raise, but it’s a good life. There’s wide open areas for Monty gets the zoomies and the townsfolk consists of mostly old folks who adore having a child around to dote on and cheek pinch to their hearts content.
Isabella tells tale after tale of Dressrosa's fiery beauty and Monty eats it up almost as quickly as he does her signature Paella! The people there sounded so fun and passionate! (Maybe a little too passionate if those rumours about stabbings hold water). He flies around the forest looking for little mythical friends he could make! He even brought some snacks to share, there’s no need to be shy!
Richard being a weaver means the two spent a lot of time together as Richard teaches Monty all manner of loops and hitches that he can incorporate with his Devil Fruit! His first project comes out a little lopsided but Richard wears that scarf proudly every day!
(There was one time Monty came back home so excited his back flame was sparking nonstop. He launched into a dramatic reenactment of his time near the riverbanks where he saw a ghost! An oddly friendly one too! He looked…kinda familiar funnily enough but before he could put a name to the apparition it disappeared.)
#Monty and his folks are def the most interesting people in the neighborhood! they’re damn near sitcom level atp#one piece#s flamingo#Donquixote Monty

Just watched the new Bob's Burgers episode where the family has to track down a puppy that was going to be someone's Christmas present after Gene accidentally fed it chocolate and it got the wheels a-turning.
Monty saw the puppy with the bow on its neck wandering through the neighborhood and it looked hungry. He still had the chocolate Santa Mama gave him earlier and it was so yummy, so Puppy would like it too! When he brought it inside and was in the middle of begging his parents to let him keep it, he said he was already good at feeding it and they both got really pale when Monty mentioned he fed it the chocolate.
Which was... not good for dogs? Very not good for dogs?? What were they going to do??? Mama was saying something about how they needed to get Puppy to throw it back up and Papa was checking if they had something in the kitchen that would help with that and it's suddenly hard for Monty to breathe.
Puppy was somebody's present. Somebody wouldn't be getting a puppy for Christmas and it would be all his fault! He had to do something! If Puppy was sick, they needed a doctor!
Wait... he knows a doctor.
And that's how Law suddenly had the Seraphim of the man who ruined his life and also the technical nephew of the man who saved it crashing into him on the deck of the Polar Tang shoving a puppy into his face and yelping at him to do something while the damn mutt is licking his goatee.
Poor Law thought a String Doffy had appeared when poor crying Monty came aboard with a little curly haired dog in tow. (Which? How?? How did Monty know where he was they are literally in the middle of the ocean??).
Despite all his complicated feelings towards Doflamingo, Monty had never done anything to earn the doctor's ire and he’d pretty shitty to blame him for genetics so he promised to save the dog. But that didn’t stop Monty from blubbering all the while about how he “ruined Christmas!” And how he’s “like the Grinch but worse!” In comes Bepo, Penguin and Shachi wondering why they hear children cries coming from their captain's office (it’s usually grown men crying after all) and see the little Seraphim. Law can’t even begin to start his explanation before the trio swarm the kid trying to cheer him up. Penguin gets him tissues, Shachi starts telling the boy about how everybody messes up and how it doesn’t make him a bad person and how there’s nothing to worry about when their Captain's on the case and Bepo comes through as a living pillow, ready to cuddle Monty calm! It’s incredibly effective and by the Law's wrapping up care for the pupper Monty is smiling again.
Law makes sure to not only give the puppy back but also a book, it’s all about animals, their anatomy, what kind of care they need. It’s an old copy, hardcover front worn soft with time and use but Monty beams at it like it was solid gold. They hug (and by that I mean Monty practically strangles Law while the puppy cheerfully licks his ear) and they send the child off with a smile.

Like pretty much every Celestial Dragon family, the Donquixotes family tree is very much a circle. Doflamingo and Rosinante's parents were at least more distantly related, hence why they and their children were born looking like regular people instead of... whatever it is that Mjosgard's dad is supposed to be.
But all of their Lineage Factors are still incredibly damaged. So much so, that Doffy and Roci likely wouldn't have been able to conceive heirs had the family stayed in Mariejois. So much so that Vegapunk was seriously struggling creating a Seraphim with Doflamingo's DNA alone. It needed a close genetic match to stabilize the Lineage Factor structure. Which is why it was very fortunate that the Marines still had Rocinante's blood sample on file.
This might also explain where Monty gets his clumsiness and fondness for hearts from.
You think it would make Monty question Doflamingo, not being privy to the other genetic sample he was given? Does he wonder if Doffy had been a good person at some point and became what the world knows him as now later on? Would the same thing happen to him? It messes with him plenty and at times he tries to distance himself so that if worst came to worse he wouldn’t hurt the people he cares so much about.
Thankfully, his family is always there to pull him out of that sinking feeling. Lami especially points out all his very not Doflamingo traits like his affection for all things heart related and inability to not trip on air. His softer laugh, his inventive mind, his mild disdain for bread, these were all things he could call his own without fear. She also makes sure to remind him that similar doesn’t mean the same, she wasn’t the same as Traffy after all. It always cheered him right back up.
