#Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

whenever people adapt the story of jekyll and hyde they always make the main focus of the story the conflict between jekyll and hyde, how they hate each other, how they fight each other for control of the body, how they are at odds and how one always tries to tear down what the other built.

we need a story that puts its main emphasis on the first half of the tale, you know, the part where jekyll creates hyde, the part where jekyll actually likes being hyde and every night he deliberatly chooses by his own will to drink that potion and become that guy, because he wants to transform into hyde.

we need a story that focuses on the period of time where they are both on the same page, working together, plotting together, sneaking around on their own house not to get caught. where hyde will fucking trample over a little girl, stepping all over her, and then jekyll will come out all charming and pay restitution to the family and pretend nothing happened.

something which infuriates me about the reception of jekyll and hyde by populist media / pop culture is that they simply do not get it!!!! don't give me comics like 'oh what if hyde survived after jekyll died' MY BROTHER IN CHRIST, JEKYLL DIED AS HYDE!!! in the silent era of horror, the word "horror" began to be used as a generic signation, and more often instead used was the words "weird" and "mythical and mysterious." this is a time when adaptions were so rapidly made like frankenstein and edgar allan poe's works dominated this era. horror as a genre wasn't specifically "created" or the word wasn't used until dracula in the 1930s.

just read the strange case of dr jekyll and mr hyde for the first time and i really want to draw them but the book conveniently described literally NO physical features other than “white hair” and “tall” for jekyll and then “short” and like evil looking for hyde so i really don’t know what to do for them
