List of Documents Required for Applying to Netherlands Universities
Are you thinking of studying in Netherlands? If yes, then you are on the right page. Studying abroad in Netherlands is one of the best ways to expand your horizons and world travel. If you have decided to go overseas, a few documents are required for studying in Netherlands.
List of Documents Required for Applying to Netherlands Universities
If you want to apply to any university in the Netherlands, you need to meet specific requirements. You need to submit some supporting documents while applying. These documents prove your skills, abilities, nationality, and identity. Universities in Netherlands ask for documents according to your study level and course of study. However, to apply to the university in Netherlands, you will require the following documents:
Copy of passport
You will need to upload a copy of your passport page(s) containing your details and photographs. If you do not have a passport, you must obtain one before applying to a Netherlands university. Your passport must be valid for the whole duration of your studies in the Netherlands. If you are from the EU or EEA, you can accept your identity card instead of a passport.
Updated Resume/ CV
The CV (curriculum vitae) must be written in English and should contain basic personal data and a clear overview of your educational and professional history to date. It is vital to ensure that your CV is up-to-date and accurate, as admission officers will use this to assess your application.
Academic Documents
You must send the academic certificates supporting your educational qualifications and the application form. If you have just completed your higher secondary studies and are applying for undergraduate studies, you need to send the SSC and higher secondary certificate to the university. And, if you have completed a bachelor’s or Master’s Degree, you need to send your certificate and the mark sheets. The Academic Certificates include
10th Grade Transcripts & Certificate.
12th Grade Transcripts & Certificate.
Bachelor’s Transcripts & Degree (for Masters/PG Programs Only).
Master’s Transcripts & Degree (if available).
Diploma Transcripts & Certificate (if available).
Other Diplomas/Certificates (if available).
Transcripts
It is necessary to provide copies of diplomas and transcripts. The documentation has to be in the original language. If these documents are not in Dutch, English, German, or French, you should include one of those languages' official translations with the originals. If you haven't finished your current program of study yet, state when you expect to graduate and submit copies of your transcripts to date, along with an official list of the topics you still need to finish.
Two Letters of Recommendation (if required)
Letters of Recommendation must be written on letterhead paper, signed, and they must bear the full contact details of the applicable referee. There are a few things to note when requesting letters of recommendation:
Choose referees who know you well and can speak to your strengths.
Give your referees plenty of time to write the letter. A minimum of two weeks is ideal.
Provide your referee with relevant information to help them write a strong letter, such as a copy of your personal statement or CV.
Statement of Purpose / Motivation Letter
The Statement of Purpose, or SOP, is a key component of your application to Netherlands universities. The Motivation Letter is a personal statement explaining why you want to pursue that specific study program, why you want to study at a particular University, and what makes you a suitable candidate.
Passport size Photograph
You need to have the correct sized and latest photographs to apply. You must focus on these photos even though they appear simple to obtain. To apply, you must submit the most recent photographs in the proper size. If the appropriate-sized pictures are not attached, your application may be rejected.
Language Proficiency
If you want to apply for an English-taught degree in Netherlands, you need to prove your efficiency in the language through a recognized English test. IELTS, TOEFL, and, most recently, Duolingo test results must be submitted as part of the admission procedure for international students.
Experience Letters (If any)
If you are applying for any Business Program at a university in Netherlands, you might be asked to have work experience in the relevant field. The main documents you can present as proof of work experience are:
Latest Joining Letter.
Latest Salary Slip.
Employment Certificates from all Previous Employers.
Additional Documents
You may submit any other documentation you may have in addition to those listed in this Checklist, such as paper presentations, examples of your symposium organization, etc. The smallest award will push your application a little more challenging. Therefore, send certificates outlining your skills and extracurricular activities.
The specific documents required vary depending on the university and program you are applying to, so be sure to check with the school for their particular requirements. However, most Netherlands universities require some or all of the above-mentioned documents.

Find out which countries are welcoming US tourists back
New Post has been published on https://appradab.com/find-out-which-countries-are-welcoming-us-tourists-back/
Find out which countries are welcoming US tourists back

Editor’s Note — Appradab Travel updates this article periodically. It was last updated in its entirety on October 16. The US State Department advises that travelers consult country-specific travel advisories via their website or consult the CDC’s latest guidance. Before you make any international travel plans, check these sites first.
(Appradab) — Once one of the world’s most powerful travel documents, the might of the US passport has shriveled during the Covid-19 pandemic.
With US coronavirus cases around the 8 million mark and climbing, many nations continue to view America with trepidation. The European Union has omitted the United States from its list of countries whose tourists may visit. Americans still can’t vacation in their neighbor to the north, Canada, nor head to many Asian favorites such as Japan.
While most US travelers are staying close to home with short-distance car trips, some still want to go abroad. For those people, there are still popular vacation options such as Mexico, Ireland and South Korea. And the list has been slowly growing.
Whether travel to “open” international destinations is responsible or advisable is up to you. It’s worth noting that since the pandemic is ongoing, rules can change at any time. Depending on the country, rules violations can involve stiff fines or even jail time.
What follows is a list of countries, in alphabetical order, where it’s still possible for US passport holders to go for a vacation:
Albania
Set on the gorgeous Adriatic Sea, Albania is open. The US Embassy website states that while there’s no Covid-19 test requirements or quarantine, you can expect a health screening.
Antigua and Barbuda
US travelers 12 and older to Antigua and Barbuda “arriving by air must present a negative Covid-19-RT-PCR (real time polymerase chain reaction) test result, taken within seven days of their flight,” according to the country’s tourism website.
Visitors are subject to monitoring by health officials for 14 days and another Covid-19 test may be required, which could mean quarantining while waiting for the result. Masks are required in public spaces.
Aruba

Visitors to Aruba will be required to undertake a Covid-19 test.
Courtesy of Aruba Tourism Authority
All US visitors 15 and older are required to fill out a health assessment. You must also have a negative Covid-19 test result with either a test prior to travel, a test upon arrival or a dual-testing process. You must also purchase specific Aruba visitors insurance.
Aruba also has a list of US states it considers higher-risk, and people from those states will require additional testing. As Aruba changes this list time to time, you should check for your state here before you make plans. The list was last updated on September 24.
The Aruba tourism site has all the specific health requirements for incoming passengers, which are considerable and too long to detail here.
The Bahamas
UPDATE: Visitors to these sun-kissed islands must request an online health visa before travel. You must then upload and later present a negative Covid-19 RT-PCR test result no more than five days before travel.
Hotel guests must vacation in place for 14 days or the duration of their trip, whichever is shorter. But starting November 1, the government plans to replaces the mandatory quarantine with a rapid test upon arrival. Updates can be found on the islands’ Covid-19 travel website.
Bangladesh
US citizens may travel to this culturally rich South Asian nation. The US Embassy in Bangladesh says you must have a “medical certificate with English translation” stating you’re negative for Covid-19, with the test taken within 72 hours of travel. You must also “home quarantine” for 14 days even with a negative test.
Barbados

Barbados reopened to tourists on July 12.
Marnie Hunter/Appradab
US citizens must complete an online form and submit 24 hours before travel, the US Embassy reports. You must present a valid negative Covid-19 PCR test result, taken within 72 hours of arrival. As the US is designated a high-risk country, you must still quarantine for 14 days at an approved hotel or resort and you’ll be monitored daily for symptoms. After five days of submitting the entry test, visitors can take a second second Covid-19 PCR test and be released from quarantine with a negative result. You can also find out more here at the Visit Barbados website.
Belarus
While in the midst of mass protests, the borders of Belarus are open to Americans. There are no restrictions on entry, although passengers should expect temperature checks at Minsk National Airport.
Bermuda

Travelers will have to pay fees to cover the cost of testing when heading to Bermuda.
Alex Rosen / Appradab
Bermuda requires each inbound passenger (regardless of age) to apply for travel authorization, at the cost of $75 per adult and $30 for flight crew and children 9 and younger. Visitors who do not have a negative Covid-19 PCR test result will not be given authorization to travel to Bermuda.
Upon arrival, passengers must present the pre-departure negative test results and submit to an additional Covid-19 test and quarantine until the results are ready. More tests are required on days 4, 8 and 14 of your visit. Be sure you read and understand all the requirements before you go.
Brazil
While Brazil maintains a “Level 4 Travel Advisory (Do Not Travel) due to Covid-19” by the US State Department, its borders are open to US visitors who show proof of health insurance that is valid in Brazil and covers the entire stay.
Neither a quarantine nor a negative Covid-19 test result is required.
Cambodia

Visitors to Cambodia will need to pay a deposit of $2,000 to cover the cost of testing and quarantine if necessary.

Colombia
NEW: All arriving passengers to Colombia should have a negative result from a Covid-19 PCR test taken no more than 96 hours before departing. No quarantine required.

Costa Rica plans to allow all US citizens access starting November 1. Travelers’ residency is to be verified by driver’s license until then.
Visitors must also complete a “health pass” form show negative on Covid-19 PCR test, taken within 48 hours of travel. You must have proof of travel medical insurance, which you can get in Costa Rica.
Croatia

US passport holders are allowed to visit the gorgeous coastal city of Dubrovnik, Croatia.
Ignoring the EU ban Americans traveling to Europe, Croatia began welcoming US tourists in July.
Travelers need to present a negative Covid-19 PCR test,”not older than 48 hours (starting from the time of taking the swab until arrival at the border crossing),” according to an alert on the website of the US Embassy in Zagreb.
Curaçao
NEW: Starting the first week of November, the Dutch island of Curaçao is reopening to US citizens, but only if you’re a resident of New York, New Jersey or Connecticut. All visitors must present proof of a negative Covid-19 PCR test result taken within 72 hours of traveling.

This eastern Caribbean island reopened to international tourism in early August. All travelers to Dominica must present a negative Covid-19 PCR test result, recorded between 24 and 72 hours before arrival, and complete an electronic Immigration and Customs form via Dominica’s online portal 24 hours before traveling. US travelers should expect further testing and screening as it’s deemed a high-risk country.
Dominican Republic

Travelers to the Dominican Republic will be temperature-tested.
Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism
People traveling to the Dominican Republic no longer have to show a negative PCR Covid-19 test result on arrival. DR authorities will give breath tests to no more than 10% of random passengers plus anyone showing symptoms. You must also fill out a health affidavit.

wo weeks ago, a group called Cheollima Civil Defense uploaded a forty-second video to YouTube with a caption that read, in Korean, “To the people of North Korea.” In the video, a baby-faced Asian man, speaking accented but fluent English, identifies himself as Kim Han-sol, a North Korean and a member of “the Kim family.” He holds a North Korean passport up to the camera—most of the document’s identifying details were blocked out before the video was released—as if to prove his identity. Finally, the young man says, in a calm voice, “My father has been killed a few days ago. I’m currently with my mother and my sister. And we’re very grateful to”—here, again, the video was edited, the audio removed and the man’s lips blocked out, presumably to obscure details of his location and associates—“and we hope this gets better soon.” Soon after the video surfaced, the South Korean National Intelligence Service publicly confirmed that the man was, in fact, Kim Han-sol, a nephew of Kim Jong-un, North Korea’s leader, and believed to be the eldest son of Kim Jong-nam, the leader’s half brother, who was murdered last month at an airport in Kuala Lumpur. The circumstances of Kim Jong-nam’s death—two women rubbed his face with VX nerve agent—attracted international attention, while both the Malaysian authorities and the South Korean government accused Kim Jong-un of ordering the hit. North Korea responded not only by denying any role in the death but also by denying that the incident had anything to do with the Kim family. According to North Korea, the victim was a North Korean citizen named Kim Chol (a pseudonym Kim Jong-nam had used to travel incognito), and he had died of a heart attack. That a member of the Kim family would come forward to rebut the official narrative was unprecedented, and that his video statement was addressed to the nation as a whole, despite the fact that the Internet is forbidden to most of its citizens, was extraordinary. Kim Han-sol, who is in his early twenties, was educated in Macau, Bosnia, and France, and has spent much of his life outside North Korea. On their own, these facts can’t be used to form any conclusions about his politics—Kim Jong-un was educated in Switzerland and is as committed an authoritarian as exists on Earth. The media, however, has focussed on an interview that Kim Han-sol gave to a Finnish TV station in 2012, in which he comes across as eloquent, reasonable, and open-minded. Much has been made of Kim Han-sol’s reference to Kim Jong-un as a “dictator” in this appearance—but that may well have been a slip of the tongue from a teen-ager giving his first sit-down interview in front of a camera. More notable, in my opinion, is that he spends most of the interview discussing the value of the international community at his schools in Macau and Bosnia, and of the things he learned from his Libyan roommate, who told him about the revolution in his country. “Because of the multiculturalism that the school has and the diversity in the classrooms, it is easier for all of us to expand on our topics in the class and share our opinions on various topics,” Kim Han-sol says. “And through that I think we can come to a better understanding with no boundaries, and I think that’s a very crucial thing for building a more peaceful community.” He speaks of everyone having “very similar core human values”; of his future hopes, he says, “I would like to engage in more humanitarian projects and also work to contribute to building world peace, and especially back home. . . . I’ve always dreamed that one day I will go back and make things better and make it easier for the people there.” In 2011, I spent six months undercover in Pyongyang, teaching English and gathering reporting for my book about the country. My students, who were nineteen or twenty years old, were the sons of North Korea’s élite, and Kim Han-sol reminds me of them. South Korean media outlets have followed his postings on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter for years. Sometimes his comments have been supportive of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, while at other times he has declared sympathy for democracy. My students were often similarly conflicted. What distinguishes Kim Han-sol is his lineage. His father was the first son of the previous Great Leader, Kim Jong-il, which means that Han-sol can claim a direct line of descent from North Korea’s founding leader, Kim Il-sung. In North Korea, the Great Leader concept blends several ideas that run through Korean history: an almighty God, the Confucian worship of a parent, and a king with the Mandate of Heaven. The Great Leader myth was also built around what North Koreans call the Baekdu hyultong, or Baekdu bloodline, named after Mt. Baekdu, the tallest mountain in Korea and a symbol of Korean nationalism, which has supposedly blessed the Kim family with its holy energy. The Kims keep their family tree deliberately obscure—children and wives are often concealed from public view—and Kim Han-sol’s mother has sometimes been referred to in the press outside North Korea as a mistress instead of a wife of Kim Jong-nam, who had children with at least two women. Still, an argument can be made that Kim Han-sol is more entitled to the position of Great Leader than Kim Jong-un, who is Kim Jong-il’s third son, and whose mother was born in Japan. According to the North Korean caste system, called songbun, people born in Japan or South Korea, the nation’s archenemies, are categorized in a lower class—Kim Jong-un’s heritage on his mother’s side would be considered “impure.” By apparently having Kim Jong-nam—a fellow-beneficiary of the bloodline—killed, Kim Jong-un has further damaged the Baekdu hyultong myth. The significance of the group called Cheollima Civil Defense is still unclear. Is it a North Korean defector group, a South Korean outfit, or something else? Kang Cheol-hwuan, a former North Korean political prisoner and the founder of the human-rights group North Korean Strategy Center, told me that Cheollima Civil Defense could be a front group for individuals who coördinate contact between foreign governments and high-ranking North Korean officials. “They must be highly specialized brokers or agents,” he said. “It doesn’t seem feasible that they are a civilian group.” Cheollima refers to a mythical flying horse that is commonly used as a propaganda symbol in North Korea. Originally used as the name for Kim Il-sung’s postwar economic push to increase the country’s productivity (he wanted workers to produce goods at cheollima speed), the term has since been used for a Pyongyang subway line, a cigarette brand, and the country’s national soccer team. Images of cheollima are found on postage stamps and coins. A bronze statue of cheollima stands in the middle of Pyongyang. The group’s Web site consists of just a single page, and its Korean is oddly stilted, as if the statements there had been drafted first in a different language, then translated. The page features a mission statement addressed “To the People of North Korea,” which says, “If you want to escape or share information, we will protect you. This would be possible no matter what country you are in. We will safely escort you to wherever you want. We, who have already helped several North Koreans, do not expect any payment.” Below this, the group has posted the testimony of “a high-ranking North Korean official” who claims to have escaped with the group’s assistance, and describes a James Bond-esque operation involving “fancy cars and airplanes.” The last thing on the page is the group’s statement claiming responsibility for Kim Han-sol’s escape to an undisclosed location, for which the group thanks the governments of the Netherlands, the United States, China, and an “unnamed” country. The only individual they mention by name is Lody Embrechts, the current Dutch Ambassador to both Koreas. (Embrechts refused a request for comment for this article.) An e-mail address is listed, and the group asks that any donations be made in bitcoin.

How To Get A German Schengen Visa for Philippine Passport Holders
Out of Town Blog How To Get A German Schengen Visa for Philippine Passport Holders
Leaving On A Jetplane to Germany: How To Get A German Schengen Visa in Manila
I spent the day before and the first hours of my birthday this year on a 14-hour flight from the Philippines to Germany. I could not believe it. It was merely two months ago when I was applying for a visa and now I’m sitting on a plane. Looking back at the whole experience of the visa application, I realised that the process was actually quite uncomplicated contrary to what I had imagined. It was nail-biting, for sure, but that’s just because it was my first time.
Schengen Map of Countries
Germany has always been on top of my mind when I think of travelling abroad, stemming from my love of Die Mannschaft, or the German National Football Team. I thought I was one step closer to reaching there when I met my husband. He has been to Europe a few times – Amsterdam, Barcelona, Bucharest, Frankfurt am Main – that many times we’d talk about his travel experiences. Come the time of planning our honeymoon trip, we settled for Germany and applied for Schengen tourist visa.
What Exactly Is A Schengen Visa?
The name of the visa came from the Schengen Agreement which aims to have borderless travel within various European countries. These territories make up the Schengen Area. To know more about the Schengen Area – it’s history, member states, and more – you can start here.
How To Get A German Schengen Visa in Manila
When to Get A Schengen Visa from the German Embassy
Before we go further, I would like to emphasise that this article focuses mainly on the the Schengen tourist visa.
You should only get a German Schengen visa if Germany will be your first point of entry to the Schengen Area. You can go forward to other Schengen countries during the validity of your visa as long as Germany is where you will arrive first. If, for example, you will first arrive in the Netherlands and then later go to Germany, you would need to apply for a Dutch Schengen visa.
How to Get A Schengen Visa
Getting a visa involves gathering your documents, setting an appointment to submit your requirements and getting interviewed. To start off, you need to visit the German Embassy Manila website. Their website provides plenty of information for visa applicants. Take note that I will be providing you with information that are accurate as of this writing which can change without notice, so please always check their website for updated information.
Below is a high-level overview of what you should do prior to submitting your application:
Book an interview appointment here. The embassy requires that you set a date when you will submit your application requirements and be interviewed. Once the reservation is done, you will receive a confirmation via email. You must bring the printed confirmation email on the day of the interview. Make sure that you take note of your scheduled appearance at the embassy.
Compile your requirements. Your application should be supported by a handful of paperwork, which I will discuss in detail in the next section.
Have your passport photo taken. The embassy is very strict on their photo specifications. Fortunately, they have a page dedicated to explaining this. Bring at least two copies or more, just in case.
Download, print, and sign the Application Form and the Declaration according to § 54 AufenthaltsG. These are needed upon submission of documentation.
Prepare the visa fee. Getting your visa requires you to pay EUR 60. Of course, you can pay in pesos based on the exchange rate at the time of your application.
Visiting the FAQs section of the Visa Processing is advised if you are in doubt. Additionally, if your questions aren’t found on the website, you can send them an email here.
What Documents Are Needed to Get A German Schengen Visa
Aside from the application form, passport pictures, visa fee, and the Security Declaration, here are the other requirements that you must provide:
Passport – The embassy requires that your passport is valid for ‘at least another three months on the date the visa application is submitted’. It also must have ‘two empty pages’ for them to stamp your passport. If you have renewed your passport, bring your old one/s with you. These are needed especially if you have previous overseas trips.
Travel Destination/Route and Itinerary – Normally, this would just include your complete flight itinerary. Remember that you do not need to book/pay for the ticket yet. You just need to show that a flight itinerary from the Philippines to your destination exists. However, I advise that you also prepare a detailed itinerary (e.g. the exact destinations/sights that you will be visiting) just in case the embassy asks for it.
Confirmed Accommodation/s – The German Embassy needs you to provide them a proof that you have paid for your accommodation. For this one, we provided a printout of our confirmed AirBnB reservation. I would recommend that you book rooms/accommodations with the option to refund in case of rejection.
Bank Statements For The Previous Six Months – Bank statements are necessary to prove that you can support yourself financially during your travel. When submitting this, include a bank certificate.
Travel Health Insurance – A Travel Insurance with ‘a minimum coverage sum of EUR 30,000’ is recommended by the embassy. You must provide this along with a photocopied version.
BIR Form 2316/ITR, Letter of Approved Vacation Leave (VL), and Certificate of Employment (COE) – These documents support your rootedness in the Philippines. In other words, these are proofs that you will return to the Philippines. Provide your most recent income tax return, along with a VL letter signed and approved by your employer, and a COE from your current employer. If self-employed, bring your ITR, business registration, and company documents. If you’re a student, a school/university certificate is needed plus a letter of exemption from studies.
Land title/Deed of Sale – For property owners, submitting a land title is a requisite.
In Preparation of the Interview
Review possible questions – Questions that they will ask you are usually based on the documents you will provide. So make sure your data is correct.
Plan your travel and take note of the address. The address is: 25/F Tower II, RCBC Plaza, Ayala Avenue, Makati City. Be prepared to take a cab, if you must.
Get enough sleep. I cannot stress this enough. You need to be mentally alert at the interview as they will ask you several questions.
On The Day of the Interview
You’re all set: your documentation compiled in an envelope, and the form and declaration printed and signed. In my case, my husband (bless him) took time and effort to print and photocopy the paperwork in A4 size. I can still remember him saying that this is the ‘European’ standard and he’s hoping that it can leave a good impression. I cannot blame him.
Dress appropriately. You do not need to be dressed to the nines at the interview. Coming in in smart-casual attire works just right.
Come to the appointment at least fifteen minutes before schedule. I had to italicise ‘at least fifteen minutes before schedule’ to emphasise professionalism. You would need to allocate a few minutes to fill up the form at the security desk on the ground floor, go up to the 25th floor, and deposit your things (especially mobile phones) before you step right in.
Before you step inside the embassy, a person at the booth next to the door will ask you to hand in your passport and the printout of the appointment confirmation. You will then receive your passport back and a serving number. Once inside, you will have to wait for your number to be called.
The minute you’re called…
Greet the officer, and then give your documents to her/him.
When you’re asked a question, answer in complete sentences. However, be concise and do not over-explain or talk around your original answer.
If you do not understand the question, you can always ask the officer to repeat it.
Follow the officer’s instructions on the biometrics part of the interview.
Once the interviewer signals the end of the interview, you will then be asked to pay the visa fee. The officer will hand you a receipt.
Visa processing usually takes 3 to 5 working days. In our experience, after waiting nervously for the result, our visas came in after the fifth day. We were overjoyed – I was literally jumping the second I saw my own visa! Here is my visa:
