@onckissâ !
annoyance enhanced the maleâs features . it wasnât the first time that he and the female were arguing , and it certainly wasnât going to be the last . he wanted nothing more than to have a good time and go home , but she was being too hard on him , as if she was challenging herself to push all his buttons .  â what is this , a fucking interrogation ? so what if i fucking kissed her ? weâre just friends . â harsh words were the result of his anger , not holding an ounce of truth in them , but he wasnât about to apologize for it .

Movies I watched this week - 25
Was 1973 the greatest year in cinema?
Besides the ones below, 1973 was also the year of The Holy Mountain, Day for Night, Mean Streets, Badlands, La Planete Sauvage, Paper Moon, Scenes from a Marriage, Amarcord, Oh Lucky Man, American Graffiti, Enter the Dragon, The Sting, The Exorcist...
âłïžâłïžâłïž 1973: The Spirit Of The Beehive (El espĂritu de la colmena) - one of the most beautiful Spanish films of all time.
Itâs 1940, and six-year-old Anna lives with her family in an isolated Castilian village. A mobile cinema truck bring Frankenstein to the village.
Quiet, symbolic and deeply moving.
The trailer.
âłïžâłïžâłïž 1973: The Last Detail, written by Robert Towne, with Jack Nicholson at his peak and with cameos by Gilda Radner, Nancy Allen and Carol Kane. 9/10
âWelcome to the wonderful world of pussy, kid..â
Going to watch the few other Hal Ashby films again.
âłïžâłïžâłïž 1973: Critically-acclaimed Robert Altmanâs anachronistic neo-noir The Long Goodbye, with chain smoking Elliott Gould as unconvincing and bumbling Philip Marlowe.
Also, Arnold Schwarzeneggerâs first movie appearance.
âłïžâłïžâłïž 1973! I donât know why I havenât revisited Donât Look Now for at least 15 years: I always considered it to be Nicolas Roegâs best film, but itâs actually one of the greatest films I ever saw! Cinematically, emotionally, with extraordinary sound editing (The first 8 min.! The dressing / undressing scene!)..
With Renato Scarpa as the police inspector: âAH! MIS-ter BAX-ter!â
Simply perfect!
âłïžâłïžâłïž 1973: In La Grande Bouffe four friends, Marcello, Ugo, Michel and Philippe (played by Marcello Mastroianni, Ugo Tognazzi, Michel Piccoli, Philippe Noiret) decide to binge-eat themselves to death on fine cuisine. A decadent and perverted food and sex orgy, full of excess and anarchy that doesnât end until the last one shits himself to death. But why?
Bon appétit!
âłïžâłïžâłïž 1973: Honest cop and whistleblower Serpico fights obsessively against systemic corruption at the New York Police Department.
With Whoâs Who of the time in small parts: Hank Garrett, âThe Mailmanâ from âThree days of the Condorâ, Jack Kehoe, Midnight Runâs âJerryâ, James Tolkan as Steiger, M. Emmet Walsh, F. Murray Abraham, John Randolph, Allan Rich ...
âłïžâłïžâłïžÂ 1973 / First watch - The Wicker Man, a British folk horror number about a Christian copper vs. a Scottish village of pagan heathens. With younger Christopher Lee in a hippie drag.
It had a unique way of combing folk songs, sung by the characters, nearly like a strange musical.
âłïžâłïžâłïž 1973: Westworld, the robots malfunction and revolt at a futuristic, adult-themed amusement park. Yul Brynner as the original Terminator. 3/10.
âŽïžÂ                 Â
Queen of Hearts, a complex erotic drama by Danish-Egyptian director May el-Toukhy. An illicit affair between gorgeous Trine Dyrholm and her stepson Gustav Lindh (From Riders of Justice!). Shockingly explicit sex and unexpected third act reverse expectations and sympathies.
Best film of the week!
âŽïžÂ           Â
Jackie Chanâs 1985 Police Story, a âbroadlyâ choreographed slapstick / martial arts film. With young and chubby-faced Maggie Cheung, before she became world-class gorgeous.
âŽïžÂ          Â
This isn't a rental car - it's privately owned.
How come Iâve never seen David Byrneâs True Stories before? Written by Ned Ryerson himself. Kooky characters in small town Vernon, TX. inspired by actual supermarket tabloid stories. Like Nashville for the 80âČs..
âŽïžÂ               Â
Crimes and Misdemeanors, a classic Woody Allen nihilist drama with a dual storyline that still holds its power.
âThe eyes of God are always watching usâ .
Toddler Dylan Farrow appears in a cameo at the wedding, and a distinct sub-plot has Allen wooing his teenage niece by taking her to see old movies and buying her art books... So, yuck to that part.
âŽïžÂ             Â
âItâs good to be king.â
Mel Brooksâ 40 year old class-conscience History of the world, Part 1 - narrated by Orson Welles, with cameos by John Hurt as Jesus and Hugh Hefner, who also supplied the harem of vestal virgins. While âThe Meaning of Lifeâ which came 2 years later was about philosophy, this was about history.
But everybody had such pearly white teeth.
âŽïžÂ                    Â
I started watching Jojo Rabbit 3 times before I could finish this pretentious Holocaust comedy of revisionist Nazi-chic cuteness. A ten-year-old Hitler Youth boy finds out that his mother, Scarlett Johansson, is hiding a Jewish girl in their attic. Kitschy, cowardly and lazy. This is not âThe Great Dictatorâ or âThe Producersâ, or even âLook whoâs backâ. Itâs Hitler 101 explained to 10 year olds who never heard of him.
I wonder how they got the rights to The Beatles and Bowie songs.
Also, Hitler was not a smoker. 2/10. (Photo above)
âŽïžÂ                Â
Picked up a random Appleâs TV series, Home before dark, about a 9 year old girl playing a journalist. I tried to get into it, and saw 2.5 episodes, but it was so ordinary, and soul-less, and full of teenager flick cliches, that I had to quit. Even the Jason Robards quotes from âAll the Presidentâs Menâ couldnât help it. PASS!
âŽïžÂ              Â
âłïžâłïžâłïž Woodward and Bernstein X 2
So, prompted by the series above, I watched All the President's Men again (for the 10? time). What a masterful film! Romancing investigative journalism never looked so good.
With a script by William Goldman, cinematography by Gordon Willis, and Robert Walden playing Donald Segretti.
The sparse score by Michael Small, who was Pakulaâs go-to composer (and which I already mentioned here earlier)! Compared to his Parallax View theme.
True fact: Frank Wills, the black security guard who discovered the break-in, was fired without explanation a few days later. He was out of work for three years until he played himself (one day's work) in this film, and never had a full-time job again, until his death in 2000, at the age of 52. Â
âłïžâłïžâłïž Also, All the President's Men Revisited, a 2012 documentary featuring all the players, and just before Trump, so they all could comfortably predict that Watergate will happen again, but none of them realized how terribly soon it will be.
âŽïž         Â
The company Men is about 3 senior executives trying to survive during the financial crisis of 2010 after getting fired, downsized, becoming redundant.
The Corporate-speak sounded fake, and Ben Affleck is not a good actor, so it wasnât too engaging. 3/10

ACTOR AND MUSICIAN JOHNNY FLYNN'S VARIED STORYTELLING GIFTS ARE PERFECT FOR NOW
BY CHANTELLE JOHNSON
As I dial the mobile number to speak to folksinger and actor Johnny Flynn, Iâm struck by the fact that almost a decade has passed since his debut album, A Larum which established Flynn as a part of the new folk movement alongside Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons. Yet times change, and in the intervening decade, Flynn has returned to his first love: acting.
Before becoming a well-known musician, Flynn attended drama school with intentions of becoming an actor. âI went to acting school after I was recording and making music and I was doing it alongside music. So, I was doing theatre and plays at the Royal Court,â he says, âI made quite an effort to keep the two things separate. It was important to me to make sure that I was taken kind of seriously in both fields, so I didnât go onstage as a musician and talk about acting projects or vice versa. Theyâre two quite different universes, even though theyâre both performative.â
Having worked on various lo-fi indie films, plays and smaller acting projects, Flynn is now taking on his most challenging role to date, starring as the young Albert Einstein in the ten-part National Geographic series Genius, produced by Ron Howard. The show focuses on Einsteinâs progression from an idealistic and rebellious young man just developing his most famous theories through to his later years â played by Geoffrey Rush â as the world-renowned, hyper-famous scientist.
Best known for his mop of shaggy blonde hair and blue eyes, how did Flynn end up in the role of the celebrated physicist with whom he shares no obvious physical similarities? âI just thought it was kind of ridiculous that I would be seen as Einstein and I actually kind of passed up on it,â Flynn admits to me over the phone.
âBut I was telling my friend and she was saying, âYouâre a complete idiot. That sounds amazing.â She sat down and helped me send off the tape, even though Iâd missed the deadline. The next thing I knew, I was speaking with Ron Howard on Skype. He was talking about Einstein in a way that made me feel really excited about being in the project, even though I didnât think I had the right to portray him. It kind of went from there.â
The physical transformation amounted to an hour in the make-up chair every day: contact lenses, prosthetics, and having his hair dyed black. The show features an all-star cast including Emily Watson and Geoffrey Rush as the older Einstein, facing the rise of Nazism in the 1930s. Flynn had the freedom to construct his own version of Einstein â which he describes as quite liberating â since details on the young scientistâs character are sparse, aside from a few anecdotes.
Although they didnât share the screen, Flynn says that creating the character was a collaborative effort with Rush to allow the two versions of the physicist to blend seamlessly. âWeâd send each other references, clips, and people on YouTube and say, âthis person is quite Einstein,ââ he explains. âA broad range of people â like Harpo Marx, Bob Dylan in a press conference in 1964, or some funny clips of owls walking across branches. Or weâd collect adjectives that would sort of pertain to a collective idea of Einstein. It could be quite abstract.â
The program seeks to debunk myths about Einstein. Far from being a poor student, he was a solid scholar as a young man. He also had many complex affairs with various women, explored in the show as it traverses significant personal and historical events during his lifetime.
Aside from Genius, Flynn is filming the third season of the sleeper-hit show Lovesick. The series follows his hapless, romantic character Dylan who must inform his ex-girlfriends that he has an STD, while trying to navigate a quarter-life crisis as he explores his feelings for his best friend Evie, played by actress Antonia Thomas. Flynn has become incredibly close to the other cast members on the intimate shoot. âIâm in my bedroom at the moment and Antonia and Josh who plays Angus are in the living room watching The Night Of,â he says casually, âWeâre all living together for these couple of months while weâre filming.â
Although itâs easy to imagine a student experience complete with bad takeaways and wild nights out, Flynn is a family man, married with two small children and he takes fatherhood very seriously. âIâm trying to be a whole person in front of my kids and not just this infallible deity, which was what my dad was to me, and I think thatâs what makes for a big let-down when you get to 13 or 14,â he says. âMy son is six and heâs super smart. Heâs constantly wrenching my heart out of my chest with his observations and how heâs able to see the world. I donât even want to be any kind of overseer or overlord to his existence. I just want him to flourish and be himself because heâs got such a unique perspective.â
Parenthood aside, Flynn has recently released his fourth studio album, Sillion (via Transgressive Records), a reflective record that explores his relationship with his father, who died when he was 18. It also touches on the current global political situation. âWith everything thatâs been going on in the world and the complex ideologies that have built up around the human mind and certain individuals and groups of people who are in conflict with one another, it just seems quite resonant to go back to something very simple,â he says, seemingly conscious of not sounding too earnest. âRather than getting suspicious or insecure, for us all to look to the Earth and â this sounds incredibly hippy or something â but actually itâs just an image. It was for me, kind of a resonant poetic image.â
While he maintains a healthy dose of cynicism when it comes to mainstream politics, he intends to vote for Jeremy Corbynâs Labour in the upcoming UK election. âIâm behind that train but I do think the whole systemâs a bit fucked,â he begins, âthe answer doesnât lie in politics and I think it will take a few generations for all this stuff to work its way out.â
When asked where the answer does lie, he suggests reading an article by Robert MacFarlane on the Anthropocene â the term given to the current geological era, which scientists think will be determined primarily by human impact.
âHe was saying that thereâs a call to arms for writers and artists to come forward with the language to process and understand the new epoch that weâre in. I think thatâs why Iâm happy to be a storyteller at this point. It reaches into peopleâs hearts and minds in a way that politics canât.â Considering his current trajectory â music for the heart, stories for the mind â Flynn seems ready to help us find new dialogues for conversation, and maybe to divine some answers therein.

The Tyrian Tattler - Special Issue - 20 Copper
Plain text below the cut.
Alumni for Amnoon
The evening was hosted by a myriad of faces of society in Kryta of Elonian heritage in Ossan's beloved watering hole - The Golden Sun. Â
Pictured left top, posing together are the Minister of Ossan, Lord Savik Mirvolan whose refusal to divulge the identity of his hatter has inspired a swirl of rumours in the fashion world that perhaps the steals them; the evening's host and Minister hopeful Lady Layla Najjar in a lovely dusky indigo Dolce & Banana number and, socialite and Queen Salma College student, Lady Nela Aurum who shared her bubble gum pink dress was designed by Elonian fashion icon, Arpyur Rising. .
Lady Najjar opened the evening with a lovely oration and led us into a night of fun-filled support of the Amnoon Education Initiative supported by the school's alumni and led us into a welcoming speech on behalf of the foundation by Lady Shirin Shahzad, left bottom, who graced us with a beautiful bespoke gown done in Shahzad purple also by Dolce & Banana. Â
We moved through the events and into one of the Asura Julius' famous auctions. Mister Julius, top right, is the Krewe Chief for the archaeological organization known as DIG and declined to comment on the origins of his outfit.
The auction in question earned the night quite the enthusiastic spending on the part of its wealthy attendees, the top item of the night being a vial of water taken from the fountain of youth that was sold off at 800 gold. A delightful and interesting piece, though does beg the question: Is it legitimate?
Our final event of the evening, drawing the scheduled affairs to the close was the presentation by Lady Odile Marchand, bottom right, whose floating Zubair Mirage lavender number was breath-taking.
The spectacle of her performance, assisted by Lady Aurum in kind was reported by onlookers to be truly something to witness as the grace and aptitude of both dancers was stunning and expertly executed.
Among the other attendees of the night, Â cheesecake whiz and organizer of the Rurikton Talent shows, Lady Aleyanna Denton, left, appeared, though the outfit worn by her Ladyship was not of couture design and instead she graced us with standard-issue Pact dress uniform.
Also in attendance, Secretary of the Western Commons, Miss Francesca Pavoni, right, attended. Miss Pavoni's dress is reported of unknown design, pictured in a patterned navy and gold that is said to be the colours of the Queen Salma College and leaves us wondering if the young official purchased it off the rack for the occasion.
Reported slimeball, Lord Fabrizio Bellasario attended, though he spent most of the night hankering after Lady Marchand right in front of his ex-wife, who happened to be the evening's host.
Lord Bellasario is pictured left in a mossy coloured Dolce & Banana, a popular designer for the evening.
Also attending, another Minister hopeful and reported mother-to-be, Lady Laila Dylane, pictured right, whose outfit mostly hid her baby bump, avidly bid throughout the night on items put for auction.
It is the first we've seen of Lady Dylane out at societal affairs. The Lady reported at our query the emerald dress was made for her by one Lady Liandrin, an unknown dressmaker out of Claypool.
Social newcomer, Rhyland Greywater, in a dusky coloured suit made by a tailor, Myria; whose catering company supplied the evening's provisions through a suspected partnership with the Golden Sun, was also in attendance.
Mister Greywater is pictured above with an unknown young woman whom by research has been revealed to be Miss Aislin Askel, whose peach ball gown was similarly patterned to Miss Pavoni's, though created by Shanel. Â
The evening was also attended by Former Vice Legate, Lady Stella Aguillard, right, who arrived late in a black glittering number by Merula del Bosque. Lady Aguillard arrived fashionably, abysmally late and  did spend most of her time chatting up former colleagues,
Miss Cosette Hale, of course, appeared in a stunning silvery purple corseted gown, left, made for her by Evelyn Cheung, that was cinched so tight it might explain the scowl on her face. Miss Hale has been reported absent from most social gatherings as of late, preferring, it seems, the company of only one particular person who did not attend the soiree.
Lastly, of the individuals pictured, Lord Christopher Page was spotted out of his usual haunt. An alumnus of the school himself, Lord Page, left, is wearing a navy and yellow get-up made for him by the private tailor, Madame Maude complemented the Lord's delicate skin tone.

For the week of 7 January 2019
Quick Bits:
Aliens: Dust to Dust #4 concludes this series from Gabriel Hardman, Rain Beredo, and Michael Heisler. Itâs been very good, capturing the feel and atmosphere of the first two Alien films and delivering a very taut horror-thriller. Absolutely gorgeous artwork from Hardman and Beredo.
| Published by Dark Horse

Atomic Robo: Dawn of a New Era #1 isnât a bad jumping on point. It doesnât really get you up to speed on the past of the series, but you also donât really need to have read any of it to enjoy this story. Great humour and interesting tidbits of science and history as usual from Brian Clevinger, Scott Wegener, Shannon Murphy, and Jeff Powell.
| Published by IDW

Avengers #12 works to build up Black Pantherâs âAgents of Wakandaâ to serve as a support network for information and grunt work throughout the world to feed the Avengers team proper. Itâs an interesting use of otherwise lesser-used characters from Jason Aaron and definitely broadens the scope of the overall series.
| Published by Marvel

Barbarella/Dejah Thoris #1 is a very good beginning to this series from Leah Williams, GermĂĄn GarcĂa, Addison Duke, and Crank!. Williams captures the tone and feel of both characters very well through their dialogue and the artwork from GarcĂa and Duke is impressive.
| Published by Dynamite

Batman #62 is the second part of âKnightmaresâ, which near as I can tell is going to be a series of one-off stories by an array of brilliant artists with Batman as filtered through some strange psycho-thriller lens (or at least the first two parts adhere to that ethos). Itâs good, but itâs weird. Great art from Mitch Gerads as Tom King keeps us off balance and at arms length with the narrative confusion.
| Published by DC Comics

Birthright #35 concludes this arc with an epic battle between Brennan and Mikey, as Brennan confronts his family, cutting deep into the resentment that Brennan has felt for his brother. The art from Andrei Bressan and Adriano Lucas is amazing.
| Published by Image / Skybound

Bitter Root #3 continues to be thoroughly excellent in every conceivable way, presenting a compelling mystery in the origins of the Jinoo, an interesting family drama delving into more of the history and interpersonal foibles of the Sangerye family, and itâs just an entertaining supernatural schlockfest on top of all of that. David F. Walker, Chuck Brown, Sanford Greene, Rico Renzi, and Clayton Cowles are delivering one hell of a story here. Oh, and the art from Greene and Renzi is stunning.
| Published by Image

The Black Order #3 shifts to the perspective of Black Dwarf here, and like the first issue, plays off a narrative that is contrary to what youâd expect. Where Glaive thought himself a comedian, Black Dwarf is more contemplative, wondering if his thoughts and desires are who he is, or if heâs merely the brute that others see. Itâs interesting, even as it continues the ongoing plot of trying to destroy the Sinnarian Empire.
| Published by Marvel

By Night #7 takes an interesting turn as Heatherâs father and uncle take a moment to act as exterminators and she and Jane try to rescue Barney from a mob boss. Love the humour as always from John Allisonâs script, especially as he adds some unexpected elements. Very nice design and presentation of the bug from Eidolon by Christine Larsen and Sarah Stern.
| Published Boom Entertainment / BOOM! Box

Captain Marvel #1 is a fun relaunch, perfectly mixing humour, action, and interpersonal drama as Kelly Thompson, Carmen Carnero, Tamra Bonvillain, and Clayton Cowles bring Carol back to New York. Beautiful colours throughout from Bonvillain, really making Carneroâs line art shine.
| Published by Marvel

Criminal #1 is a very welcome return to the Lawless family, as Ed Brubaker, Sean Phillips, and Jacob Phillips weave a tale of Ricky stealing an old thiefâs necklace trying to bail Teeg out of jail, only to wind up in even more hot water than he began in. You donât need to have read any of the previous volumes of Criminal before, but I still highly recommend that you do since theyâre awesome.
| Published by Image

The Curse of Brimstone #10 gives us some more answers as Annie confronts Wandering Jack to get information on the Salesman and to figure out a way to possibly save her brother. This is still a weird series, but Justin Jordan, Eduardo Pansica, JĂșlio Ferreira, Rain Beredo, and Wes Abbott have definitely been making it interesting.
| Published by DC Comics

Deathstroke #39 gears us up for the conclusion next issue by positing that from Sladeâs point of view what heâs claimed happened actually did happen, as the disparate threads converge. Itâs interesting as to how Priest has been staging this story.
| Published by DC Comics

Die #2 is brilliant. As good as the first issue was, and it was really damn good, this one is even better as we get the exposed to some of the rules of this fantasy world and thrown headlong into the seamless world building of this realm. Kieron Gillen, Stephanie Hans, and Clayton Cowles have something truly magical here, taking a childhood love of science fiction and fantasy, and subverting it into something that can hurt us like weaponized nostalgia. It is absolutely stunning.
| Published by Image

Faith: Dreamside #4 is a very strong conclusion to this mini from Jody Houser, MJ Kim, Jordie Bellaire, and Dave Sharpe. The entire series has looked good, but Kim and Bellaire really take it to another level with this finale, the confrontation of Belu is just incredible.
| Published by Valiant

The Freeze #2 is probably better than the first issue and it was an incredibly debut, from Dan Wickline, Phillip Sevy, and Troy Peteri. I absolutely love that the focus isnât on the freeze itself or what caused it, and is instead about the people living in the world and the problems that this kind of apocalypse could cause. Itâs smart and leads to some very compelling character drama and complications.
| Published by Image / Top Cow

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1 is amazing. Spectacular even. This is a very heartfelt and humorous debut from Tom Taylor, Juann Cabal, Nolan Woodard, and Travis Lanham that takes Spider-Man down to the local level, spotlighting his, well, neighbourhood. Thereâs also a back-up from Taylor, Marcelo Ferreira, Roberto Poggi, Jim Campbell, and Lanham that could well be a game-changer.
| Published by Marvel

The Green Lantern #3 continues to be one hell of trip from Grant Morrison, Liam Sharp, Steve Oliff, and Tom Orzechowski. It still feels like something out of a different time, but thatâs part of what really makes this work.
| Published by DC Comics

Gunning for Hits #1 is a pretty dense beginning to whatâs apparently a crime drama mixed with the music industry, not at all like Empire because I know thatâs probably what many would think. Itâs seedier, grittier, down at the street level, but as I say, this is dense. This first issue has a lot of narration, a lot of dialogue, and a great number of pages that more or less outline how signing deals work in a how-to format. Itâs unique, blending some of the hallmarks of something like an autobio comic with a more standard narrative approach. Iâm definitely looking forward to seeing what Jeff Rougvie, Moritat, and Casey Silver do for a second number.
| Published by Image

Hit-Girl #12 is the bloody conclusion to Rafael Scavone, Rafael Albuquerque, Marcel Maiolo, and Clem Robinsâ âRomeâ arc with Mindy and Paola confronting the corrupt convent. Absolutely beautiful artwork from Albuquerque and Maiolo, with even time for one last twist in the tale.
| Published by Image

House Amok #4 features some very impressive artwork from Shawn McManus and Lee Loughridge as the story takes and interesting path as it heads towards the conclusion. Christopher Sebela has been giving us an interesting look at this world through Dylan as the scales fell from her eyes, but this one makes us wonder, what if the family isnât really crazy.
| Published by IDW / Black Crown

Justice League #15 heats things up on Hawkworld with a very interesting revelation about Shayera and Thanagar Prime, along with a deeper mystery about the multiverse. It really makes me wonder what James Tynion IV and Scott Snyder are getting at. Gorgeous art throughout from Jim Cheung, Stephen Segovia, Mark Morales, Tomeu Morey, and Wil Quintana.
| Published by DC Comics

The Last Siege #8 is the brutal conclusion to this series that has been a practical masterclass in storytelling, from character development through pacing, atmosphere and execution. This series has just been incredible. Landry Q. Walker, Justin Greenwood, Brad Simpson, and Patrick Brosseau stick the landing with one hell of a finale.
| Published by Image

Man Without Fear #2 continues to tear Matt Murdock apart as he finds ways not to deal very well with being hit by a truck. And gives in to fear. Great art from Stefano Landini and Andres Mossa as Mattâs nightmares come to life.
| Published by Marvel

Martian Manhunter #2 continues to be a bit of a slow burn, parcelling out a bit about the in-story present and then delving into more about Jâonnâs past on Mars, building up Martian culture and what they were taking from Earth even in our ancient past. The art from Riley Rossmo and Ivan Plascencia is amazing.
| Published by DC Comics

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #2 is another great issue as Miles and the Rhino team-up to track down the missing kids. Saladin Ahmed does an amazing job of humanizing Rhino and making us empathize with his plight. The art from Javier GarrĂłn and David Curiel is again very impressive.Â
| Published by Marvel

Moth & Whisper #5 concludes this series from Ted Anderson, Jen Hickman, and Marshall Dillon. While it does bring the story to a satisfying resolution, it still leaves open the door for more to come, which Iâd love to see.
| Published by AfterShock

Murder Falcon #4 delivers some pretty big revelations as the reunited Brooticus faces off against Magnum Khaos. It goes about as well as youâd expect. Daniel Warren Johnson, Mike Spicer, and Rus Wooton are really nailing the heartfelt character beats in amongst the over-the-top monster battles.
| Published by Image / Skybound

Oblivion Song #11 deals with the fallout of Edâs transference of another piece of Philly over to Oblivion. Gorgeous artwork as always from Lorenzo De Felici and Annalisa Leoni, particularly during the creature battles.
| Published by Image / Skybound

Outer Darkness #3 continues to show us how this universe works as the crew try to salvage a derelict vessel on a supposedly barren rock. This mix of horror and science fiction is wonderful and John Layman, Afu Chan, and Pat Brosseau are really creating something unique here.
| Published by Image / Skybound

The Punisher #6 begins the next leg of Frankâs ongoing nightmares with the first part of âWar in Bagaliaâ from Matthew Rosenberg, Szymon Kudranski, Antonio Fabela, and Cory Petit. Iâve really been enjoying what Rosenberg has been doing since the âWar Machineâ arc and it just seems to be getting better. Thereâs some really intriguing things about a nation run by Baron Zemo here.
| Published by Marvel

Red Sonja #25 ends this volume with another one-off tale with Red Sonja ferrying a musician to a ship on the coast from Amy Chu, Erik Burnham, Carlos Gomez, Mohan, and Taylor Esposito. Itâs a curious story of longing for home that allows for a little bit of reflection on the series, but it doesnât ruminate on it long.Â
| Published by Dynamite

Self/Made #2 doesnât have the luxury of the twist of the first issue, so has to work harder to get past that âI see dead peopleâ Sixth Sense moment, and, really, it does. This is just a damned good story, playing with sci-fi and fantasy elements, blended seamlessly due to it all being a representation of game development. Mat Groom, Eduardo Ferigato, Marcelo Costa, and Troy Peteri are doing some great work here. Â
| Published by Image

Sleepless #11 brings all of the plots and machinations to an end as Sarah Vaughn, Leila Del Duca, Alissa Sallah, Gabe Fischer, and Deron Bennett bring the series to an end. Some very interesting bits of tradition, change, and resentment towards monarchy.
| Published by Image

Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider #4 is an epilogue to the âSpider-Geddonâ event, paying tribute and burying the fallen. Itâs a very haunting story, making you wonder if Gwenâs going to take a darker turn in the future. Seanan McGuire, Rosi KĂ€mpe, Takeshi Miyazawa, Ian Herring, and Clayton Cowles do a wonderful saying goodbye to various parts of the Spider-Verse.
| Published by Marvel

Star Wars: Age of Republic - Jango Fett #1 is this weekâs one-shot exploring various characters around the Star Wars canon. Jody Houser, Luke Ross, Java Tartaglia, and Travis Lanham give us a decent story of betrayal and consequences with Jango and Boba Fett.
| Published by Marvel

Star Wars Adventures: Destroyer Down #3 concludes this mini from Scott Beatty, Derek Charm, Jon Sommariva, Sean Parsons, Matt Herms, and Tom B. Long. Itâs been interesting to see the two time periods of the stories play against one other with events in the past informing those in the present.
| Published by IDW

Thor #9 is somewhat of a companion piece to this weekâs Avengers #12, setting up Roz Solomon as another Agent of Wakanda, but you donât need to read both of them to enjoy them individually. This one delivers a lot of information on whatâs going on in regards to the build up of the âWar of the Realmsâ in addition to giving Roz a new purpose and changed outlook. Gorgeous artwork from Mike del Mundo.
| Published by Marvel

Turok #1 is an entertaining reimagining of the series from Ron Marz, Roberto Castro, Salvatore Aiala, and Troy Peteri, somewhat in line with the original Valiant interpretation, albeit moving it forward to the late 1800âČs. Quite like the art from Castro and Aiala. Castroâs art reminds me a bit of a cross between Joe Kubert, Bart Sears, and Jordi Bernet.
| Published by Dynamite

United States vs. Murder Inc. #5 paints a very bleak picture for the next stage in the US governmentâs war against the crime families following the assassination of the President. Wonderful work on tone and atmosphere from Brian Michael Bendis, Michael Avon Oeming, Taki Soma, and Carlos M. Mangual.Â
| Published by DC Comics / Jinxworld

Web of Venom: Venom Unleashed #1 is a pair of tales spotlighting the new dog-form of the symbiote as he chases down people infected by Carnage, then Cletusâ perspective on it, from Ryan Stegman, Kyle Hotz, Juan Gedeon, Marc Deering, Scott Hanna, Livesay, Roberto Poggi, Victor Olazaba, Dan Brown, Matt Yackey, Andrew Crossley, Carlos Cabrera, and Clayton Cowles. Really nice to see Hotzâs art here.
| Published by Marvel

William Gibsonâs Alien 3 #3 has the crap hit the proverbial fan as meddling with the xenomorphs begins to bear its deadly fruit. Johnnie Christmas, Tamra Bonvillain, and Nate Piekos are doing such an amazing job at adapting this for comics, it makes me kind of sad that it wasnât the direction the films took.
| Published by Dark Horse

Wizard Beach #2 continues the fun of the first issue, with Hex trying to get off the beach, build himself a castle, and hunt down tasty, delicious rats for lunch to no avail. Nice bits of humour and the introduction of a girl who Hex might well be smitten with, as well as a darker mystery involving her grandfatherâs wand. Great art from Conor Nolan, Chad Lewis, and Meg Casey.
| Published by BOOM! Studios

The Wrong Earth #5 has both of the dimension-displaced Dragonflies(flymen) continue to attempt to get back to their respective homes. Also, through flashbacks and monologues, I kind of get the impression that Tom Peyer is trying to tell us that both of them are thoroughly insane. Thereâs also the usual back-up comic and prose text pieces to round out the issue.
| Published by Ahoy

Young Justice #1 is the launch vehicle of the new Brian Michael Bendis-driven Wonder Comics line. If you look at it from a perspective of DCâs continuity, itâs probably very confusing. Many of the characters seem to be in their pre-New 52, even potentially pre-Infinite Crisis forms, Gemworld is attacking, Amethyst seems particularly bloodthirsty, and weâve got a couple of inexplicable legacy characters in Jinny Hex and Teen Lantern, but...I think that confusion, that chaos and frenetic energy, is part of the point, since at the onset, the invaders from Gemworld are aware of the shifts in the multiverse. So maybe give it a chance to develop from there are clue us in on whatâs ultimately going on? Regardless, thereâs gorgeous action, interesting layouts, and fascinating design work from Patrick Gleason and Alejandro Sanchez.
