Packaged in a standard brown cardboard box is the Corsair Crystal 680X RGB. You kind of get a feel of what the case looks like, but you do get much more detail of what the inside of the case looks like with a very detailed exploded view.

Once taken out of the box and its styrofoam cocoon you will find that the Corsair Crystal 680X RGB has yet another form of protection with a cloth bag over the case. You also get quick access to the case manual and a screen with magnets on it. We will figure out where that goes later. A small, yet effective, a piece of foam is placed at the top of the case between the glass front panel and the bezel. This is done for the reason that the top right portion of the glass is not directly attached to the case.

[section_title title=Introduction to the Corsair 680X RGB PC Case]
[section_title title=Closer Look at the Corsair 680X RGB PC Case]
From this view, we can see a majority of the items that make this PC case different than most. Made of metal, plastic, and glass is nothing new, but the style, design, and layout are. On three sides of the Corsair Crystal 680X, we have some sort of tempered glass. The top and front pieces of glass cover the ventilation opening and where either fans or radiators may be installed. The largest piece is the all glass (minus the hinges) side panel.
Let us start our journey of the Corsair 680X at the top of the case and we find that you have buttons and connection available to you. The buttons include the power and reset, while your other connections are placed between them. The ports that you can access are mic/headphone, Type-C 3.1, and USB 3.0. It might seem like a minor detail, but I do like that the rest and power buttons are not next to each other to help prevent those accidental button pushes.
Sliding over to the left we get a better look at the top panel and the glass that decorates and protects this area. I know the first thing you are saying is “That glass will restrict the air flow!”. As we can see that the glass is raised up off the top of the case and is totally unblocked on all four sides. A rough measurement gives us a total of 22.5 square inches of open space for the air to escape.
If you would like to remove or replace the tempered glass, four thumbs screws can be removed and then the smoked glass can be taken off.
Looking at the front of the Corsair 680X we see the second piece of glass. Like the top piece this on is raised off the front of the air intake about .5 of an inch and is 18.5 inches long and 7.5 inches wide. Although it is raised off the case the front panels are made to blend the glass into the design. Along the left side of the front panel eight .5 x 1.5-inch vents are added to increase the amount of air allowed into the case. I looked on how the panel could be removed and found that it would require a small Philips screwdriver and probably 20-30 minutes as it appears that you would have to take most of the front section apart.
#gallery-0-19 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-19 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-19 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-19 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Moving to the right side of the case, which has a solid side panel, we see that there is plenty of air intake. An included magnetic fan filter is placed over the perforated metal. Why is there an air intake placed here? This is where the intake of the power supply will be getting its fresh air.
The rear of the case gives us a glimpse of what the inside might be like. The right looks like your typical modern day pc case, but it is quickly noticed that the power is over the left and has been turned vertically. Above that we can see were plenty of air can flow in or out of the Corsair 680X with or without the assistance of fans.
Turning the case so that we can see the bottom allows us to see that a plastic removable dust filter covers an opening that enters the main cavity of the case.
[section_title title=A look inside of the Corsair 680X RGB]
It is about time that we jump into the inside of the case, but first, we get a pretty good view of the left, all glass, side panel. A black stripe along the edge of the panel helps hides the sides of the metal case giving it a cleaner look. Two hinges are at the rear and are attached to the panel with a single screw on each hinge.
The door is held closed with lightly powered magnets at the top and bottom right side of the glass. Just enough strength to panel closed and that a slight tug with allow the door to open. A single screw on the top hinge can be removed to allow the entire door to be taken off for easy access.
The all-white interior matches the outer color keeping the “snow blind” look intact. A huge hole in the motherboard mounting area gives everyone a generous amount of access to the backside of any motherboard installed in the case. 9 rubbers grommet pass through areas and three small holes at the very base give any PC builder plenty of options to run wires and cables.
Included with the Corsair Crystal 680X is an SP120 fan at the rear. From this viewpoint, there are vertical GPU mounting slots available with all the other normal I/O port outlets.
Turning our attention the front side we see that we also get 3 LL120 RGB fans with the purchase of the Corsair Crystal Series 680X RGB. The three LL120 RGB fans give you a total of 48 customizable RBG LED’s. If you noticed there are two thumb screws just off to the right of the top and lower fans. Once removed you can take out the whole panel with the fans are attached to it.
#gallery-0-20 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-20 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-20 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-20 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
The two front panels (one left, one right) can be removed to get access to those areas behind them to do what you like.
#gallery-0-21 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-21 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-21 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-21 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
The top inside of the case shows us where you can install fans and radiators of different sizes. Once again with the removal of two thumb screws, you can completely remove the mounting bracket.
A true totally tool-less storage cage made of plastic allows you to put plenty of 2.5 and 3.5 drives into the Crystal 680X. For the 2.5 size drives, all you need to do is insert them till you hear a click, while the 3.5 drives have just a few more steps of removing the holder, insert the drive while letting the 4 pins snap into the screw holes. Then all you have to do is replace the holder, with the drive, back in the cage and you are all done. Let’s say you do not need four holders for SSD’s. simply remove the ones you do not need. The 2.5 cages are locked together with “arrow” shaped tabs that when tugged on snap apart and back together again.
Mounting of the power supply is pretty straight forward. Make sure you remove the small holding tab on the larger plate. This small tab, once reinstalled, will keep the PSU from moving around during transportation. 4 rubber pads isolate the PSU from the mounting hardware thus helping to eliminate any possible noise to be transferred to the case.
What we see here is the Lighting Node Pro… and this what? This turns the Corsair Crystal Series 680X RGB into a smart case which allows you to control and synchronize RGB lighting through the Corsair iCUE software and across all iCUE compatible products that include fans, RGB LED light strips, DDR4 memory, keyboards, mice and more.

[section_title title=Final Thought on the Crystal Series Corsair 680X]
After digging around, taking it apart and installing a system I will have to say that I believe the Corsair 680X RGB is made mostly for high airflow cooling. Corsair does list a lot of possibilities to mount radiators of all sizes, yet you really have nowhere to install a good size pump and reservoir. This leads me to think that they are hoping/pushing you to install one of the Corsair AIO’s. Which is not a bad idea, considering the smaller inside size of the 680X. Now I am not saying that a custom water cooling loop could not be installed. You will just have to down-size some the components or maybe placing in them on the non-viewable side. But, as case modders will do, a window could be easily be added to show off the water cooling hardware.
Not being a fan of all the crazy RBG stuff when it is pushed upon you and can’t you can do nothing about it or with it. I will say that the NODE Pro and iCUE software helped ease my pain. Playing around with it and being able to set a nice single color that was not too bright, made me rather happy. The two products allow you to do so much with the lighting that found myself playing with the lights and effects for quite some time.
#gallery-0-23 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-23 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-23 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-23 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Placing the power supply vertically behind the motherboard mounting was smart for several reasons. One is that you have now created a compartmentalized case that has removed some of the heat from one area completely. Second, you have now lowered the overall height of the case, yet you can still install an ATX sized motherboard. Lastly, you made a huge area to route and hide every single cable. Great for those that just hate to do cable management but want a clean looking inside, but also great for those that must make sure that every tiny cable is folding, routed, and tied down.
At a suggested price of $249.99USD, some might think that is a very tall price to ask for. But, if you step back, look at what you are getting and add up the pricing of the NODE Pro, three LL120 RGB fans and a fourth 120mm rear fan you are already at about $160+. So this means you are only paying about $80 for the case. Overall I do like the look (minus the top glass piece…) and size of the Corsair 680X RGB. The white color gives a great base for someone like me, a modder, to paint the case any color I want it to be. If you are looking for your next custom build and want it to be incredibly easy and undeniably cool then I would recommend that you take a long look at the 680X RGB. So with that said I have already installed a new system into the Crystal Series Corsair 680X RBG and will be using it soon as my daily PC, but I think I am going to keep it white… for now.
