Had a long day at work today and I want to talk about what Kindergarten/Nursery/Reception/Preschool teachers do, because I think this stage is a highly misunderstood one, even in our own profession.
You have to remember that kids at this stage are three, four, and five. They are still working out this thing called 'life'. They are still learning basic functions like bladder control, taking their jumpers off, putting their shoes on (never mind laces), zipping up their coat, and talking, to name a few.
So what we often do as teachers is to help children learn those very basic skills, along with the very basic academic ones.
We teach that you have to point to each counter once as you count, and that you can't miss any. We teach what letters make what sound and how to write them.
But we think about emotional and social regulation - which is to say, we teach them the basic things like sitting down and paying attention for twenty minutes. We teach them to sit still. We teach them to share and play nicely. We teach them to listen. We teach them to take their own jumpers and sweaters off when they're hot. We teach them to zip up their own coats.
Because if we don't, they'll enter main school not knowing how to listen to the lesson, or take off their own jumper, or zip up their own coat, or work with the person next to them, or tolerate the person next to them for more than a minute.

This is a great starting point to help your youngsters with the basics of number. You are provided with one ladybird and a set of 10 numbers (1 to 10). Also 10 wooden 10mm balls to place into the holes of the ladybird to show the number of the ladybird's face.
Each tile is 3cm in diameter and fits smoothly into the grid hole. Also on the outside are finger holes to pull the tiles back out.
The ladybird is 85mm by 100mm high and 4mm thick.
This is a great activity for also helping the child understand the principles of odd and even numbers, as the dots are symmetrical about the centre of the body.

The Importance of EYFS in Early Childhood Education in India
The foundation of a child's educational journey begins in the early years, a crucial period that significantly impacts their overall development and lifelong learning. In India, the importance of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum is increasingly recognized as a pillar for nurturing young minds. The EYFS framework, originally developed in the United Kingdom, has been adapted and implemented in various educational settings across India, reflecting a commitment to holistic early childhood education.
Understanding EYFS(Early Year Foundation Stage)
The EYFS curriculum in India is a comprehensive approach to early childhood education, tailored to cater to the developmental needs of children from birth to five years. It focuses on seven key areas of learning and development: Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication and Language; Physical Development; Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the World; and Expressive Arts and Design. These areas are interlinked and equally emphasized to ensure a well-rounded development.
The Impact of EYFS on Early Childhood Development
1. Holistic Development: The EYFS curriculum supports the all-round development of children. It encourages them to be confident, curious, and capable learners, laying a foundation for their future academic success.
2. Cultural Relevance and Adaptability: In India, the EYFS curriculum is often adapted to reflect local culture and values, making learning more relevant and engaging for young children.
3. Focus on Individual Needs: The EYFS approach in India emphasizes individualized learning. Teachers assess each child's unique abilities and interests, providing tailored support that fosters their individual growth.
4. Parental Involvement: The EYFS framework in India encourages active parental involvement in their child's education. Parents are seen as partners in the learning process, which enhances the child's educational experience and outcomes.
5. Preparation for Formal Schooling: The EYFS curriculum in India serves as an excellent foundation for formal education. It equips children with essential skills and a love for learning that eases their transition into primary school.
Challenges and Opportunities
While the EYFS curriculum offers numerous benefits, its implementation in India faces challenges. These include ensuring uniform quality across diverse socio-economic and geographical landscapes and training educators to effectively deliver the curriculum. However, these challenges also present opportunities for innovation and collaboration in early childhood education.
Conclusion
The EYFS curriculum in India is more than just a teaching framework; it's a transformative approach that nurtures the potential of every child. As India continues to embrace and adapt the EYFS, it paves the way for a brighter, more educated future, laying strong foundations for the nation's young learners. The commitment to early childhood education, as exemplified by the EYFS, is a testament to the belief that the earliest years of learning are the most impactful.
