Hey sorry if I'm bothering you but I remember you made ecto samples from ectotober23, and it actually inspired me to make ecto samples from my Dp ocs, lemme know what you think!
Oh and here are what they look like :]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wow! I love these! I’m really glad to hear my art inspired you like that💖💖💖 I dig how the ecto connects to them all to an extent! I imagine the spider one doesn’t have a smell to humans but pheromones for spiders/insects! For anyone reading & wondering, this is what they’re talking about!
Thank you so much for showing me💖

Danny was a cute boy in some weird magic infested town he was sent to for recon. Tim spent a few weeks there trying to decide if the town was plagued by a fae court, some weird shadowy cult, or some eldritch deity. On paper, at least, that’s what happened.
Tim was going through another crisis about his sexuality, and decided fuck it, I’m around some normal teenagers who won’t become Evil Future Versions of Themselves to Haunt Him or ruin the team dynamic or whatever, he can do whatever he wants he wants.
So he decides he’s allowed to want the twink that’s smarter than he thinks, and right in the middle of the whole town’s situation to boot.
(Is it a little manipulative that their relationship was initially brought on by Tim trying to figure out if Danny’s parents had summoned something in the basement? Perhaps.)
Tim eventually decided the town was a little beyond him and called in the JLD. By this point The Case was taking up way more brain space than any given twink, and also the portal to another dimension freaked him the fuck out, so the relationship remained a one time, no strings, thing.
A forgettable thing, even.
Tim didn’t expect to see the guy again, except maybe in a JL file somewhere about the town.
Then Danny walked back into his life.
Logically, it wasn’t impossible for him to do so. Danny was smart, getting a scholarship or acceptance to GothamU would have been a cakewalk. It’s just phenomenally awkward in a new way Tim hasn’t experienced before.
For that split second before Tim spotted the two toddlers snapping at Danny’s heels, which his mind helpfully supplies with a mental timeline of, and oh shit.
Danny ranted for a second there about how much his town didn’t really like him, between his parents and demeanor. There’s no one else that’s really a candidate, except maybe that friend Tuck, but the kids are too light for that- Fuck.
He just stalls to a stop in the middle of the walkway, just a touch off campus, and watches Danny and Small Company walk away in his peripheral vision.
He needs a DNA sample yesterday.
dead tired #2
One night stand baby misunderstanding. trans! Danny and deaged Elle/Dani and dan. I have seen this idea with jazz and Jason but I'm doing it with Danny and Tim.
Tim meets Danny dring the time quest request to find Bruce. Tim ends up going to Amity Park and meets Danny. The two of them end up falling into bed together and not long after Danny has to save Elle from destabilizing as well as Dan due to a Vlad plot.
Danny later ends up in Gotham for school and runs into Tim. Tim does the math for the kids and realizes something. I don't think he would flat out ask if the kids are his but I do think there is very much a back and forth between the mix signals of whether the kids are actually his, This is especially funny if Tim doesn't know that Danny is Phantom or any of the ghost stuff in Danny's life.
This can go two ways: the kids are actually Tim's due to Danny having the material in his system when he stabilizes the kids( reverting back to core and incubating and Danny situation) or For the kids are not his and it's not cleared up until a lot later.

Health Code Violation- DC x DP prompt
"Hold on there. You're not permitted beyond this point." The floating teenage boy said as he tucked his clipboard under his arm.
After a battle with another world-ending villain Superman was killed in action and after a short debate the decision to revive him using the Lazarus Pit was made. However, the league members who were carrying his body to the pit didn't expect it to be blocked off with caution tape. A teenage boy with stark white hair and wearing a hard hat and orange construction vest.
"What are you doing out here kid? And what is with the tape?" Barry asked shifting Clark's heavy ass body from crushing him.
"I'm here to take a look at the leak." He said pointing a thumb in the direction of the green pit.
"The leak?" Diana echoed in confusion.
"Yeah, your planet has a leak. A few actually. Our realm hasn't been managed well and now that the old king is gone we need to fix some things. Right now the leaks need to be sealed." He said. "Also what's with the dead guy?"
"We were bringing him to the Lazarus Pit to revive him." Barry said blankly.
The teen shook his head in astonishment almost dropping his clipboard.
"You are what?! With the what?!"
"The Lazarus pit...?" Hal laughed nervously his face in a half-quirked smile.
"You call it a Lazarus Pit? Guys this is a pool of contaminated ectoplasm. Basically sewage. This thing is full of dead people juice. All those leftover emotions and obsessions are stewing in there. You toss that body in these pool and you'll make a revenant full of anger. It doesn't even have an ecosystem to cleanse it. It's like stagnant water." The teen said waving his pen around before pausing "Wait a minute....you people have been using it? No wonder it's so polluted! What is wrong with you?! Are you trying to contaminate your planet? Do you want zombies?"
It was kind of weird to be scolded by a kid, for everyone but Bruce. He thought of a more pragmatic approach. He didn't like the pit but he acknowledged it's usefulness.
"I understand. But we do want to save our friend and the only way is to use the pit."
"That's a big ask. The pit is one thing but bringing back the dead willy nilly? ...But I guess that's my domain now.. "
The teen mumbled to himself before sighing.
"Look, I want to help. I really do. But the pit is unstable and there are many more on this planet with the same issue. We can't risk an apocalypse and the chance they get into the wrong hands. This is for the safety of your planet." The teen said as mannerly as possible as he dismissed the heros.
"Come on, please. Our friend is dead. You don't want our friend to die." Barry said pleadingly.
"Very mature of you. A bit of shame might help you...alright fine but don't badger me again." The silver-haired being said taking out a small syringe and taking a sample of his own blood.
"It's diluted compared to the pure stuff but 10x stronger than the stuff in the pool. It's safer and once he's kicking again it'll drain out of his system." He tossed the needle to Barry and returned to taking samples of the pit. "This biohazard requires an ecologist. I'll have to import some blob feeders to clean up the toxins. Then either seal this up or link it to the network. But these dumb mortals are just going to keep dumping bodies into it."
The teen mumbled to himself as he tried to find a solution.
A week later all the Lazarus pits had disappeared. The Al Ghuls were scrambling as the source of their powers dried up.
Clark was alive and feeling better than ever. No pit rage at all.
Eventually the boy returned.
"I had a talk with the ancients and they agreed to let you have one ecto pool. Only one thought and it has to be managed by me. As long as you don't try abusing it by going into it while alive or not asking permission I'll allow you to use it. Also, be mindful of my cleaning wisps, they work very hard to keep the natural flow of the ecto cycle going." The teen said holding up a green little ghost blob and petting it.

Danny Al Ghul... but differently
Instead of the classic Demon Twins, what if Maddie Fenton was an Al Ghul? Talia's older sister, maybe.
She's trained in martial arts, which could come from the League. She has pretty loose morals, dedicating her cause (science) above anything else. And her work is focused around the scientific study of ectoplasm (or Lazarus Water).
In this AU, I imagine Maddie was exiled from the League for trying to study Lazarus Water. Ra's views the water as holy (I love the idea he made a magical deal to get it), and so the idea of using it for anything but its intended purpose is sacrilegious. She's cast out, but on her way she steals some samples, which is the basis for the Fenton's research before the portal is opened.
She used the word ectoplasm to disguise what she's really researching to hide from Ra's, because he would definitely kill her if he realised she continued her research after leaving. She connects ghosts to ectoplasm because she's heard stories about Pit Demons. This is also where the assumption that ghosts are non-sentient and harmful comes from; Pit Demons are fueled only by Pit Rage. (In reality, Lazarus Pits are just corrupted and diseased, and the ghosts coming through are only mindless for as long as it takes them to overcome the illness.)
She never dates Vlad because he's too much like Ra's, with his pride and wealth and schemes. Instead, she marries Jack, a man smart enough to be useful and devoted enough to follow her lead unquestioningly. She mimics Jack's mannerisms, mirrors his own affection back to him, and learns to fit in by attaching herself to him. She learns the value of being underestimated, of being dismissed as the town kooks.
When Danny is revealed as a halfa, she uses these assumptions. She tells him she needs time to think and adjust, and she gears up to catch him. She loves him, sure, but the scientific opportunity she's been given is too valuable to give up for sentiment's sake. Jack's more apprehensive, but she's been manipulating him for decades, and she tells him Phantom killed their son. Jack is enraged, and now on board to catch Danny. They succeed, and every time Danny screams and begs and Jack wavers, Maddie talks him back into it.
Eventually though, Danny gets through to Jack. The Fentons heard about a ghost attack in town, and Maddie left to hunt, leaving Jack alone with Danny. They talk, and Jack finally realises he's in the wrong. He releases Danny and tells him to run, knowing he can't, physically or emotionally, stop Maddie. Danny runs, and ends up homeless and injured in Gotham.
Jack, meanwhile, goes to Sam, Tucker and Jazz, to explain, apologise, and figure out how to help Danny and make amends. They're angry and suspicious at first, but eventually agree to work together, for Danny's sake. Jack is learning a lot about what ghosts are really like, and it's blowing his mind how wrong he was about them.
Danny, meanwhile, gets noticed by the Bats, and they see his Al Ghul resemblance. With his black hair and blue eyes, they assume he's another blood son of Bruce's, and scramble to catch/adopt him. This is largely unsuccessful, because the Bats are government affiliated, the Waynes are rich fruitloops, and Danny is very good at not getting caught. They're also busy trying to figure out if he's a threat, and trying to get a DNA sample to prove their assumptions. They track down his hideout just in time to see Maddie recapture him, and they realise Danny was never the LoA assassin threat they were worried about, Maddie is.
Before they get enough information to launch a rescue mission, they get flagged down by Jack, Jazz, Sam and Tucker. The Amity Parker's information on ghosts and ghost tech is invaluable, and when they point out the Anti-Ecto Acts, the Bats riot (internally). The rescue goes ahead flawlessly thanks to their combined knowledge.
Now, however, there's the issue of Danny's custody. Regardless of guilt, Jack had a hand in his torture, and might face jail time for it. Danny might like the Bats a bit more now, but his trust issues won't let him move in with strangers. The Waynes are even worse, his billionaire trauma removes them as an option, especially with how they were stalking him before. Maybe he gets an apartment with Jazz? But I can't imagine the Bats being ok with leaving two traumatised teenagers alone after all that, especially while they're still working on getting the Anti-Ecto Acts removed.
Regardless of where Danny ends up, he's going to get stalked by the Bats. It's their love language. Regardless of good intentions, Danny is not feeling the love. He's feeling very cornered and threatened. He knows they've seen he's not human, and now they're intruding on his half-life, waiting for him to become a threat so they can take him down. Danny tells his friends and family, and together, they run.
This could go a few ways from here. Maybe they bounce from city to city, dodging heroes who heard about the family from the Bats and are just trying to help. Maybe they get caught by the GIW in a final push as the laws are being overturned. Maybe they run to the Infinite Realms, and are only found again years later when Danny summoned as the High King of the Dead. Or all of these could happen.

Danny photobombs the Justice League.
So after each fight the superheroes might give a statement or something to tell people everything is fine, the threat is over, pretty normal right?
Superman had just got home from work and defeating yet another one of Lexi's robots, the TV's playing as background noise while he gets himself something to eat, then stands there with some leftover pizza as his interview/statement comes on.
He watches and goes 'could have done that better' or 'should not have said that.'
And then, seemly out of nowhere, this kid in a Hazmat suit appears in the background.
He's holding a map and squinting at his surroundings as if lost, also he's glowing.
The thing is that Superman hadn't noticed the kid, not a heartbeat or nothing.
Which Clark finds weird and makes a note to do some research the next time he's in the watchtower.
The event is put to the back of his mind.
Not forgotten but not deemed important since the kid seems like he isn't a threat.
Then the kid appears in other heroes interviews/statements.
Footage of the Flash fighting captain cold? He's there, almost in the crossfire and Barry didn't even notice.
Green Arrow celebrating a hard won battle? He's by the cop car as the villain is put in the vehicle.
The final nail in the coffin is when he appears in Gotham when batman is telling people to stay calm and inside during a huge scarecrow attack.
Danny on the other hand just wants to go home.

DP x DC prompt [16]
Danny has been with the Wayne’s for a while now and his status as a halfa is starting to affect some things he comes in contact with a little bit.
At first he thought this only happened back in his old home in Amity Park because the ectoplasm samples were kept in the fridge, and though that does speed up the process, it turns out Danny causes the same things to happen just fine on his own. It just takes a lot longer.
This means he now occasionally has to replace or decontaminate some of his things every once in a while. and with the electronics the same applies but usually the protections that Tucker has made do the trick too.
Danny has been very careful, he never borrows anything that’s highly susceptible to ecto-contamination from the others and whenever he needs something from the kitchen he just goes to Alfred (he really doesn’t want to see how the old man might react to the coffee machine starting to act weird because of Danny). Just, the last thing Danny wants to do is inconvenience the Wayne’s by ecto-contaminating something of theirs.
It’s really only when Danny slips back into vigilante-ism that things go sideways.
And Danny really tried. His obsession is space, not heroism, so he figured he’d be fine just focussing on his education. But he kinda forgot about the fact that he just really really loves being a hero.
He loves the thrill, the danger. He loves giving a smackdown and just in general having a good fight, he loves helping people, he loves being a force of good. And yeah, he kinda also likes the praise, but nothing weird and overbearing (some people go way too far in their hero worship, but that’s a story for another day)
So after some back and forth and arguments with Bruce who, contrary to popular belief, was absolutely not thrilled that his latest traumatized kid who was being kept safe in the mansion so far now decided that no, he wants to be part of the family business too please.
Danny eventually threatens to just go out anyway without any of his help and that just gives Bruce flashbacks to the time when he had just taken Dick as his ward. Not to mention some of his other kids and… dammit.
Well then… Danny can go explain things to Jason himself once he finds out and is probably going to be mad about it, Bruce is not taking the blame this time.
So Danny (name pending, he could just go with Phantom again, but he also wouldn’t mind using something bird or bat related) gets back into the game once again! And that’s fine that’s cool. But back to the original point.
Danny figured that he would just do what he’s been doing so far with any bat gadgets as well, and maybe it would be even less of a problem cause he’s pretty sure that these things break a lot more often because of all the fights and stuff.
What Danny had not really thought about though is potential intense high emotion situations. Like for very specific example; Scarecrow taking an obsessive interest in him because of Danny’s ghostly ability to feed on fear (somewhat) and the situation getting out of hand, him getting very hurt, Batman having to carry him out of there while Danny was kinda bleeding a bit (a lot). Bruce being worried and Danny wanting to be anywhere but there anymore and-
Well, you get the point.
So, take all that and add high tech bat armor and what you get is suddenly sentient batsuit.
It actually took a bit for anyone to catch on that something was going on, but it was eventually figured out. and once that was the case Danny couldn’t really help his seemingly endless stream of apologies.
But how can anyone ever blame him for bleeding out on Bruce and the weird reanimative properties of said blood making it so Bruce’s suit can now “talk”
Bruce described it more as like a martian mind link, which would explain why only he could hear things. it’s probably only for the wearer.
It can’t move on it’s own, it needs someone to wear it. But it can sense things and react for the wearer and honestly all that alone is more than enough reason to find a way to exorcise it… if not for the whole,
“but if it’s a sentient ecto entity now we can’t just ‘kill’ it, we literally abolished the anti ecto acts just so that can’t be done anymore”
it’s probably a good thing the suit has grabbed all the ‘Batman’ and made that what it is. All the core values are there, so there isn’t going to be any risk of it killing someone at least.
Still though… what to do now?

Idk I just had the intrusive idea of the JL or some hero investigating the GIW or some other group with suspicions of them keeping merfolk or similar what with the giant tanks and what's shown in their paper trails over the years.
Only for Big Ass realms naga to swim by the observation window in the water.
Tumblr media
From top to bottom, left to right: Valerie, Sam, Tucker, Jazz, Danny, Ellie & Dan
Like I am saying 30ft (9.1m) at the least from head to tail, probably bigger in giant rooms. And like, visibly has been there for a while. Like the GIW have been studying them as the only available specimens after they hypothetically destroyed the portals.
The GIW is the ghost investigation ward after all, not extermination. Though that doesn't mean they're exactly treated the best either- more akin to something like a snake or crow, like semi-intelligent animals like dolphins, chained to make taking samples & dragging them from the ecto-infused waters easier.
And maybe they're a little feral, muzzles on save for feedings preventing them from talking, if they even remember how to make noises that aren't in the words of the Zone anymore.
Maybe they've convinced themselves that it could be worse, they could've been killed like Vlad, like an animal that had bit too much, over and over. Maybe they've convinced themselves that this isn't so bad, even if they're treated less than human, even if they've not seen the sun for who knows how long now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Design Thoughts?
-Metal Core Valerie, her scales are literally made from it, in blacks and reds like molten gemstones. Her scales are sharp too, designed for easily cutting through stone. Lots of spikes that glow when channeling energy.
-Plant Core Sam, scales designed for plant seeds to catch hold and take root not unlike a sloth's fur, hiding the sharp thorn-like ones lining her backside. Also, acid. Blacks, greens, and flashes of bright purples & greens that hint at the poisonous nature
-Storm Core Tucker, very thick scales designed for going through the sand with side spikes that help channel electricity. Has both a rattle and a pair of stingers that could hypothetically 'plug in' to things as well. Some of the most bioluminescence of the group.
-Ocean Core Jazz, she is the most aquatically designed out of all of them, with lures all across her body that mimics the lights reflecting off water, tricking the mind from noticing her. Large carp-like scales and several rows of teeth. Lots of blues in coloration with hints of oranges & yellows like a sunrise at the sea
-Space Core Danny, with large amounts of spikes and 'vents' that cover him in an aurora if he were free. Spikes with their own miniature gravity forces, twisting the area around him as he moves. Black iridescence & swirling white-blue patterns like galaxies are painted across his body
-Moon Core Ellie, covered in fine needle-esque scales not unlike how actual moondust is. Very rough like sandpaper and a fin that mimics the tail of a comet tinted ecto-green. Mostly monotone colors otherwise.
-Sun Core Jordan, with similar vents to Danny but with flames and plasma. Thick fur at the end of his tail not unlike how Vlad's was, with thick scales that allow for swimming through molten material that could melt anything and anyone else. Blacks, whites, blues, almost like white-hot coals

Phantom prompt- cold reception
After finding Ellie in his parents lab, Danny reacts poorly. He reveals himself to be Phantom immediately, and uses his ice to freeze his parents' feet to the floor. He freezes their hands together too to prevent them from grabbing any weapons.
He could take his parents not knowing about him. He could take them hunting him. He could take the verbal abuse during dinner as they casually spoke about their anti-ghost rhetoric. He could hide himself. What he couldn't take was Ellie getting hurt. He hadn't even known how long she'd been down there.
They were screaming at him, demanding to know what he'd done with their son as he lifted Ellie up into his arms. He needed to get her somewhere safe.
"I am your son, but you're never going to accept that, are you? You're never going to admit that your science is wrong. You're never going to admit that you're failures. You don't know anything about ghosts." Danny shifted Ellie in his arms so she would be more comfortable. She wasn't conscious, but she clung to him all the same.
"But you'll understand one day, when it's too late. The two of you are so ecto contaminated, you'll definitely become ghosts when you die. You infected everyone in the house with your samples and experiments. It won't matter then. Not at the end. I won't forgive you."
"Danny." He looked up at Jazz who was standing in the doorway. She jingled her keys in her hands. "Let's go." Danny had been happy to suffer in silence, but his sister had evidently been making plans for this day.
"Jazz, don't!" Maddie struggled against the ice restraints but couldn't get free.
Jazz gave her a pitying look. "You picked your science over your kids a long time ago." She didn't have more to say, simply nodded at Danny to follow her out of the lab.
Danny pressed his cheek to the top of Ellie's head and followed Jazz out. He didn't give his parents another glance. He wasn't sure when they'd lost his trust fully, but it was gone now. Maybe they'd shot at him one too many times.
"C'mon Ellie, we'll get you taken care of." Danny whispered. He'd remember to release the ice that held his parents in place in a couple hours.

So it is very likely that Danny could Join the JLA, but Dani would be more likely to join, given her traveling, she is very likely to run in into heroes on the job while in her ghost form.
One thing turns into another and suddenly Dani is a member of the Justice Leuage (or dark of you prefer that, but using the regular JLA would offer more opportunities for hero interactions)
The JLA is under the impression that Dani is immortal because she’s dead.
(And if we’re taking her age into account, the younger the better. It would be hilarious if she was the same age as Damian or even younger. She is 13 is this post though.)
After a few months, she is forced to turn human because of (destabilization threat, injury, etc. take your pick) and Bruce takes a small sample of her DNA to catalogue it.
She’s his daughter.
Bruce is freaking out, and is now terrified bc his 13 year old daughter joined the Justice League.
He confronts her, and Dani is like wtf because she’s a clone?? But refuses to reveal Danny’s existence because of the anti ecto acts. (You can decide if Danny’s mother is Talia or not)
And when there the rest of the Batfam is looking over the DNA results they find out she has the same DNA of one of their business rivals.
Vald Masters.
From there, they figure Dani’s a clone, Vald’s ghostlyness and connection to the government, GIW, the anti ecto acts, the ghosts, the Fentons, and Phantom, who looks exactly like Danis ghost form and is definitely her original.
They are the Bats™, so they promptly deal with all the issues in order to keep Danny and Dani safe.
I finally did a post about Danny/Dani being related to the same Wayne’s, (I did one about Sam and Tucker if you wanna see that) and I might do Jazz if you wanna see that :))
This is very half formed, and maybe when I have the time, I’ll go back and flesh out the actual idea to make is useable. For now tho, you can use this prompt, but be sure to tag me :))

Vivisection Deception
“Yes, dad. I will vacuum the living room. Yes, I will also do my homework. No, I won’t forget the Ecto-filter. Love you too, say hi to mom and Jazz for me, bye!”
Danny hung up the phone. Sitting back into the booth at the Nasty burger, he got back to his burger. Tucker took a big bite, before talking with his mouth still full:
“So, your parents and sister are all out of town for the whole weekend? They had no problem leaving you alone unsupervised?”
Sam looked at Tucker with disgust, warning him to empty his mouth first. Danny nodded, agreeing with Sam:
“Yeah! Jazz wanted to explore different universities for when she graduates, even though that’s still a few years away. Still, mom and dad agreed to drive her if they could combine it with a visit to a convention for the Occult. Pretty sure they’ll be the only “scientists” there again, but that’s not my problem. Mom decided that she I could stay home alone. A sign of trust, Jazz called it. Something about "improving through positive reinforcement", I guess.”
Sam finishes her salad, and looks jealous. Danny invites both her and Tucker over for a weekend of gaming and fast food, but both decline, to his surprise. Sam groans, frustrated:
“I would love a weekend with no parents! Mine are forcing me to this, rich people yacht party. Mom keeps saying I might find a nice boy there, so I know it will be a weekend full of mom trying to play matchmaker with snotty rich boys. YUCH!”
Tucker apologizes as well. His parents are taking him to visit his grandma this weekend. He hasn’t seen her in a while, so he can’t cancel it, either. Danny looks a bit sullen about that, but smiles through it:
“Guess I’ll have the weekend to myself then! Maybe I can actually get this book report for Mr. Lancer done… Or I can even play a bit of Doomed!”
Friday evening, Phantom is flying back home. He has just seen Sam & Tucker off at the airport, and was looking forward to a weekend of peace and quiet:
“Man, sometimes I just forget how rich Sam is! I didn’t know her family has a private jet-“
Suddenly his Ghost Sense goes off. Getting into a battle stance, Phantom looks around. He is just in time to dodge a pair of claws heading straight for him! Turning around and shooting an ectoblast, Phantom tries to figure out who the ghost is. When the ghost taunts him at becoming slower every day, Phantom recognizes his voice:
“Bertrand! I am SO not in the mood for you!”
Bertrand laughs, and says that he was hoping for that. He attacks Phantom again before flying off, taunting Phantom to chase him. After a few hours Phantom lost his trail, and heads home. De-transforming before going inside Fentonworks, Danny is annoyed he’ll have to deal with Bertrand, but at least Spectra wasn’t with him. She’s the real threat.
When Danny steps inside, he finds the house is a mess! There are cannisters with Ectoplasm throughout the house, and the temperature is set to near freezing. Confused and suspicious, Danny goes to the lab. There he finds the cause of the mess:
“Mom?? What are you doing home? Aren’t you supposed to be with Dad & Jazz on her University trip?”
Maddie turns to Danny and quickly puts a strange gasmask on him. She is wearing one as well, along with her safety goggles:
“Hello sweetie! Quick, put this mask on! The samples we managed to collect give of Ectoplasmic fumes, so you’ll have to keep wearing it in the house, ok?”
Danny follows her advice, and puts it on. He again asks her what she is doing home, when Jack enters the lab as well, also wearing a gasmask and his safety goggles. Danny thinks the fumes must be pretty dangerous if his dad is wearing the goggles. He usually forgets to put them on. Jack gives Danny a big hug that would cause many regular humans severe backpain:
“Son, you’re home! We were worried sick when your mother and I got home early and you weren't here. Jazz thought we were “hurting her chances” to get into the school of her dreams, so she sent us home.”
Danny rolls his eyes, knowing exactly what kind of antics his parents could get up to when left unsupervised. He asks Maddie what is up with all the cannisters in the living room. Maddie apologizes, while turning the heat down even further:
“We managed to find a way to extract even purer Ectoplasm from the Ghost Zone! We took so many samples we can’t even fit them in the lab, this will be great for our research! Oh, but I am sorry, sweetie. The samples need to stay very cold, so we can’t turn up the heat. If you need, I can get you more blankets?”
Danny sighs frustrated, not looking forward to a weekend of cold. He declines Maddie’s offer, instead opting to go to bed. It is very late after all. Which is when Jack blocks the way upstairs:
“Don’t think you can distract us that easily! Or did you honestly think we didn’t notice?”
Danny is confused, but before he can answer Maddie interrupts him:
“That’s right, it IS late! In fact, it’s 2 hours past your curfew! Now why do you keep doing this, Danny? We’re not asking much of you, only that you come home at a reasonable time! Just because we weren’t supposed to be home yet, doesn’t mean you can stay out until who knows when! You are grounded, young man! You’re not allowed out this weekend, and hand over your phone!”
Danny tries to protest, but it’s in vain. Handing over his phone, he heads to bed, dejected. As he lies in bed, freezing, he wonders if things would be easier if he could just tell them what he was doing. Judging from that time with Freakshow and the Reality Gauntlet they would accept him, right? If they knew he was Phantom he could just tell them he was hunting Ghosts…
Saturday turns out to be the worst. Danny is woken up forcefully by his dad, who tells him he isn’t allowed to sleep in as long as he is grounded. Sleepily, Danny goes downstairs, a blanket around him and that stupid gasmask on his face. He asks Maddie how he is supposed to eat breakfast with that thing on. Maddie seems to think for a bit, and says that he is right. She will allow him to go out to get himself something to eat.
Danny quickly races upstairs, a bit confused about that break of curfew but not wanting to lose the chance to get out off the house. After getting dressed Jack tells him to get home back after immediately, or else he’ll be worse then grounded! That was a few hours ago. Cursing his bad luck, Danny races home:
“Please, please, PLEASE be too busy in the lab to notice I’m late! Of course the Ghosts also decide to ruin my weekend! First Ember doing an impromptu concert at the Nasty Burger, which means I can’t get breakfast. Then Johnny & Kitty are fighting it out at the food court in the mall, so I can’t get lunch either! If mom & dad send me home without dinner…”
De-transforming and entering Fentonworks, Danny looks around. The living room is still a mess of cannisters and the place is freezing, but he doesn’t see his parents. That means he might be able to bluff he was home for a while and they didn’t notice. If he can just get his chores done before they come upstairs…
“DANNY! COME DOWN TO THE LAB, NOW!”
Hearing that, Danny groans. This weekend is going from bad to worse! Putting on a gasmask, he heads to the lab. There he finds Jack & Maddie preparing a table with a big drill attached to it. Danny lies that he going to do his chores quickly while they are still busy, and empties the Fenton Thermos into the Ghost Zone without them noticing. When he turns around, he is not prepared for what happens.
The next moment he is trapped in a ghost-proof net, shot from a Fenton Net-bazooka. Confused, Danny asks what is happening, but receives no answer. Instead, Jack electrifies the net, causing Danny to instinctively transform into Phantom to protect himself, before passing out from the pain.
When he comes too, he is in hell. His parents saw him transform outside on new camera’s that Danny didn’t know off, and denounced him, both as a human being and as a son. They see his act of releasing the Ghosts back into the Zone as a sign that he too is evil. Danny is cuffed to an examination table and his powers are restrained. He is truly trapped as Maddie makes the first incision. Hours pass and Danny wonders how he can still be alive and conscious. He wishes he wasn’t. He didn’t know what was worse, the pain or the constant venom coming from his parents mouths, calling him all sort of horrible things. They must truly hate him. Danny, now terrified of every move his parents make, can only think of one thing:
Escape.
He must get out of here or they’ll kill him for good! He needs to get as far away from here as possible! For once, it seemed his Fenton Luck decided to show mercy. When they reached his Core, Jack had grabbed a remote. Shouting with a sick glee that he had the drill ready for this, he pushed a big red button. Maddie looked up, shouting that was the wrong remote, but it was already done.
With a loud noise, the cuffs popped open and Danny was free! Not thinking for a second, he shot into the roof, out of Fentonworks and towards the horizon. He need to get out of there! He’s never looking back!
Inside the lab, Jack & Maddie look at the spot Phantom fled through the ceiling. Suddenly Maddie begins to laugh:
“HAHAHAHA!!! It worked! That was absolutely delicious! He’ll be miserable for the rest of his life!”
Taking off the gasmask and goggles, ‘Maddie’ reveals herself to be Spectra in disguise! Next to her, ‘Jack’ morphs back into Bertrand.
“A brilliant plan, truly! Not only are we rid of that little Freak, but the misery of his little friends will be a great dessert!”
Spectra takes out Danny’s phone, seeing several missed calls from the real Jack & Maddie. Throwing it on the Ectoplasm and blood covered table, she decides to go celebrate. Heading into the Ghost Zone to get Ember and Kitty to repay the favor, neither Spectra not Bertrand notice the Portals Ectofilter beeping dangerously, since they had inadvertently prevented Danny from replacing it.
Outside, the Fenton RV rolls up. Jack, Maddie and Jazz are worried sick since Danny isn’t answering his phone. Jack is about to open the car door when the Portal explodes, taking Fentonworks with it. Months later the Fentons still blame themselves for leaving their son home alone. Police reports will later say that the only casualty is Danny Fenton.
Several states away, homeless boy Danny Nightingale attracts the attention of several heroes and villains alike…

Misunderstandings really really suck
Edit: Part 2 is Up
So heres the deal, it's a normal Vivisection AU where Danny had to run away to Gotham after his parents try to kill him, and let's say that he takes Ellie with him too.
They stay there for a few years and after a while they manage to establish a little life for themselves. Danny is running a small Shop that makes them enough money to live comfortably in the apartment right above his Shop, meanwhile Ellie is going to Gotham Metro Academy on a scholarship because she is really smart and they managed to fake some school records for her when they were making themselves new Identities.
(Side Note: Danny is now 26, while Ellie hasn't started aging yet and still looks 12, but she will begin to soon since she just hit her 12th birthday)
Danny also runs a small Ghost Shop out of his store, just selling small bits of Distilled Ectoplasm or Ecto-Infused Treats to the local Ghosts in return for small favors or help around the shop.
But here's the thing. Ellie is still an unstable Clone, even if they did managed to find a reliable treatment in the form of Ecto-Dejecto. But Danny's parents were the only ones who knew how to make that stuff, and the Ecto-Dejecto they stole all those years ago is beginning to run out.
Danny begins to work tirelessly trying to replicate it, diving full on into his Mad Scientist side to try and find a way to make more ED for Ellie. He manages to make some prototypes, but he is nowhere near confident that they are good enough.
He decides to call in some favors from the local Ghosts. He calls the ones he is confident will survive this and asks them to try out his Ecto Dejecto to see if it will work for Ellie, but he does warn them that there will probably be unexpected side effects that they will probably not like.
The Ghosts agree to do it, because in the years that the Fenton's have lived there they have grown extremely attached to Ellie. She is like a little sister or daughter for many of them, they would throw away their afterlives if it meant helping her.
For most of the samples, the ED doesn't work at all. Some of them work for a single moment before cutting out, others don't do anything, and some have crazy effects that affect them for a little while before disappearing abruptly. One guy turned into a Dog, not the worst outcome but not the intended one. Another began to glow brightly and couldn't turn it off, that one lasted for an hour.
They keep testing them, out in the nearby Alley since they don't want to destroy the house or Danny's makeshift Lab, for a few weeks.
They problem comes when they are spotted one night by Red Hood.
...
Jason was crossing the Rooftops while on Patrol. He was going a little farther than his normal patrol range, since he had the time and he wanted to make sure there was no trouble in the nearby areas either.
As he was about to hop from one rooftop to another, he got a weird feeling. It was strange, he didn't feel anything on his skin, he didn't smell anything, he didn't even hear anything, but he somehow knew that there was something strange happening in the nearby Alley. It was like he could sense it.
Peeking over the edge of the rooftop, he saw a group of about 10 people. It was a bunch of strange looking people with green-ish skin, and one normal looking person. The normal looking one was wearing a lab coat, and seemed to be about 25 yrs old. Jason felt like there was something off about that guy, but he couldn't place exactly what. He was holding a box of something in his hand, and talking to the group.
"Ok guys, I'm really confident this time!" He said, "I think one of these may be the one!"
The man placed the box on a nearby Dumpster and opened it up, taking out a strange glowing green Vial. He handed it to one of the Greenish people and watched as they injected themselves with it.
Jason watched as they began to glow slightly before their arms suddenly grew to be longer than they were tall. The Man in the Lab Coat sighed in discontent, before saying "Ok, not that one. But we still have a few to try out!"
Jason watched as one by one the people below injected themselves with the green Liquid, each of them having some strange phenomenon happen to them before moving on to the next. The strange thing was that none of them seemed to be concerned with the changes, just commenting on it felt before moving on.
Finally, they got to the last person in line. As they injected themselves, Jason felt a sense of Anticipation well up in his gut. He didn't know why, but he felt like this was going to he important.
He was proven right as the Man who had injected himself began to glow brightly. Jason was overwhelmed with the sense of Pure Power coming from him. It was intense, he didn't know how, but he could actually feel the man begin to grow stronger and stronger. The feeling was nearly suffocating, but he managed to regain his senses long enough to hear Lab Coat laugh maniacally. He looked over to see that the entire group was enthusiastically high-fiving and fist-bumping eachother, all cheering at the success.
"Hahaha! Yes! Finally!" Labcoat Cheered, "It's done! Once I make some more, we'll be able to-"
The overwhelming power suddenly cut out. It was so abrupt that even the people below didn't speak for some time. They all just stood on slight shock before Labcoat spoke up, "Ok...ok this is fine. All I need to do is take that formula and find a way to make the effect Permanent. After that we're all set." He said, a thoughtful expression on his face, "I think we'll be good to go within a Week!"
The group of people muttered in agreement, and Labcoat thanked them all for a bit before they all began to walk away. It seemed like the meeting was over.
Jason took a moment to collect himself, before deciding to follow some of the group so he could question them. Unfortunately, everybody he followed disappeared into thin air after a short time.
It occurred to him that he hadn't tried to intervene at all. Usually he would have jumped down and beaten them all black and blue for testing drugs right in front of him, but he didn't this time. Why? He also realized that he should have followed the Lab Coat guy first, not waited until it was his last option. Why did he not go after that guy instantly? Why did he hesitate? Was it something to do with that Ominous Feeling that led him to the meeting in the first place? There was just something about the guy that made Jason feel inexplicably sacred of him.
Either way, he needed to tell the others.
Because from what he had seen, a Mad Scientist had been working with a group of Metahumans to create a Super Soldier Drug right there in Gotham, and they needed to stop them.

Phic Phight - You Look Sort Of Like My Father
For: Chrysanthemum and Care
Danny’s never had good parents. They were objectively ‘good’ people, but maybe an objectively ‘bad’ man would make for a genuinely good parent.
You look sort of… like my father.
Little boy, little boy, let me come in.
Let the dark come in.
Dad is that you, are you back?
Danny’s always had a… rocky relationship with his parents, it’s not that they were actively mean to him or that he actively hated them. It’s more that they just… weren’t good, weren’t attentive.
Weren’t really meant to be parents.
They were meant to be scientists, to be researchers, to be explores even; meant to be ghost hunters.
Kids were just for ‘the Fenton legacy’ or because ’married couples were supposed to have kids’ or simply for them to have extra hands to help them or extra minds to listen to them…
Or maybe it was simply to have free experiments that couldn’t escape for eighteen years.
That last one felt a little too true these days. At least they didn’t know about him, about what he was. If they did…
It, it would be so so much worse. Surely.
How couldn’t it be? They’d have access to a ghost, a unique hybrid ghost at that, that was stuck under their roof for at least two more years… if he survived whatever they’d do for that long anyways.
He didn’t have his hopes up. Never did. Never had even.
At least when he was human, fully human, he didn’t have to wonder if they’d saw out his ribs just to see what colour they might be. Blood samples were just blood. The stool stuff was creepy but still, not really a part of him.
Plus they stopped doing that stuff a year after they started actively feed him and Jazz ecto as little kids, since it didn’t ’yield interesting results’.
If it had…
He’d have been screwed from the start of his half life. He absolutely would have had to flee on day one. God that would have been awful.
He’d have… survived of course, he was good at surviving, had to be, but surviving wasn’t good. Surviving, only just surviving, was worse than dying.
He’d do it for his friends and to protect the town of course but still, he’d be doing all of it, all of that, empty and numb and waiting for the fight that would finally brutally beat the fight out of every one of his limbs and eventually… his heart and core too.
But that’s not how things are, not how they were, small mercy he guesses.
Didn’t really make what he does have now much better though. And it’s not like he can even dream that things would be better if only he hadn’t died.
They would be, just…
They still wouldn’t be good. They wouldn’t be fine or even okay.
And giving kids at least a ‘fine’ childhood was kinda the point of being a parent, ‘good’ was the goal and ‘great’ was better, but ‘fine’ would do. ‘Okay’ was only really acceptable with parents who didn’t choose to become parents, which was firmly not his parents positions.
They chose this.
They shouldn’t have.
He wished they hadn’t.
Well, okay, that wasn’t strictly true. He… enjoyed being around, he did!
He liked helping people, and seeing movies, and getting into ghostly fist fights, and hanging out with his friends… Even taunting Dash mid bully session could be fun.
But his parents shouldn’t have had kids and Danny would be better off someone else’s kid. Jazz was treated better by them and even she knew that; and unlike him, she had told them as much.
Did they care?
No, not really. Just a ‘that’s nice, honey’, which was and is somehow worse than them being upset, or heck, even happy. They just… didn’t really care.
He’d always wanted to fly, but all they taught him was how to drown.
The only things from them he did really like was his own love of science, of exploring and discovering, of tinkering; but they only cared and nurtured those things in him as far as they benefited and leaning into their interests… not his. Sure he was interested in ghosts too, just not like them.
Never like them.
They’d want him to be. Push him to be. So he never made that little interest known.
That’s okay though.
Because he explored his interests on his own, which wasn’t how it should be.
But…
His parents also gave him what he is. He wouldn’t be a halfa if it was for them. And that was such a part of him he could hardly seem himself without it. Even if what gave him it is all the things wrong with his parents. All the reasons they should never have been parents.
Unsafe handling of samples and unlocked projects. No adult supervision and contaminated baby bottles from the day he was born.
His parents must have paid someone off to avoid him and jazz getting taken away by cps. That, or, Sam was right and the cps only ever really did anything when a kid died and actually left a corpse behind.
Sucks for him he guesses then. Or not. The adoption system sounded awful.
He just… didn’t know if that would be better or worse than what he’s got, hard to say. Which he knows is really really bad. At this point it didn’t matter anyways, he had two more years and it wouldn’t matter.
He could stay.
He could go.
He could stay sometimes and go other times.
It would be up to him. And well… he did not hate his parents. In some ways he wanted to stay, he just… knows he can’t. It’s not safe. It never will be safe. Human or halfa. It won’t be safe. It won’t be healthy. It won’t be happy.
He won’t be free.
He really wanted to be free.
Not free from them, not really. Just free to be, well, him. Free to go where he wanted. Free to talk as he wanted. Free to decorate as he wanted. Free to simply be without having to be so damn paranoid about them. About them hurting him, about them confining him, about them maybe simply just not caring.
If they ever found out and just said ‘that’s nice, sweetie’, he knows he wouldn’t be able to handle that.
What would he even be supposed to do with that?
Nothing. Because you can’t do anything when someone gives you nothing. And that was a nothing response.
He could power through torture, would suck but he could do it. It was something. Confinement he could find an escape or be rescued. Nothing would just…
Yeah. It would just, and that’s it. And being stuck in that kind of uncertainty would be the farthest from being free or safe or happy.
He can only starve for so long before he’ll die. He’s starving for freedom. For better. For more. For what only the darkness seems to whisper he can actually have.
It’s a bit weird.
Because he didn’t used to really think about this stuff, all of it, before. As a kid, an early teen, it just simply was. No need to think about it and no real reason to. Jazz did, because Jazz studied behaviours, because Jazz cared about and for him more than they ever did.
But at least he knows why he actually thinks about this stuff now. He had a reference point, and a bit more maturity of course; but it was mostly that reference point he mentioned. And ironically, the reference point that actually got him to really think about how bad his parents were at being parents was an outright mass murderer…
That was pretty messed up, in all honesty. Even to him.
When a literal war mongering genocidal mad man provides an actual example of what a good parent should be, because the biological parents were just that far gone.
Someone he knows is no good, is good to him.
But…
Pariah just… seemed to care, not just in general but about him specifically.
Somehow.
Danny had been pretty convinced that the whole ‘you nearly truly bested me, child, you shall be my heir’ situation was just that, claiming a strong heir.
Nothing more. Nothing less.
Just some other adult using what they wanted or needed of Danny and moving along.
Like mom and dad.
Like Vlad.
Like ClockWork.
Like Pamela and Jeremy Manson.
Like Alicia.
Like Pandora.
Like Angela and Maurice Foley.
Even like Lancer.
In fact… the only adult that Danny can think of that didn’t do that to him, was Sam’s nana Ida… his nana Ida… who of course died.
Figures right?
The one adult who treated him well dying?
Yeah…
‘That’s rough buddy’.
He was tired of rough. Honestly.
But then, now, there’s Pariah. Who… doesn’t do that to him.
Sure Pariah trains him. Hand to hand combat. Weapons. Political jargon. War strategies. Zone geography. Ghost typography and linguistics.
But…
He also listens to him. He doesn’t just throw things at him. Doesn’t just push his own wants, his own desires, his own ways, on him. On Danny. He didn’t do that to Danny as a whole, not just the ghost Phantom or the Human Fenton. Danny. He listened.
He gave back more than ‘that’s nice, sweetie’. Or ‘be back by super!’. Or ‘okay, have fun’.
Pariah gave responses. He gave actual feed back, and opinions, and his own specific thoughts.
And neither did he just say what he thought Danny wanted to hear or what he thought would get Danny to do or say or be the way he wanted. Even when Pariah knew it wasn’t what Danny wanted to hear.
When Pariah’s thoughts and opinions were cruel and twisted and dangerous.
Which was… good. It was really good.
As much as that had been difficult to admit, even to just himself.
Because someone who ended trillions in death and murdered thousands in life, shouldn’t be someone Danny’s ever thinking positively of… right?
Yet he was.
Because Pariah actually seemed to give a damn about Danny. Even if sometimes it was a bit twisted or dark. Even when he pushed for more than Danny was willing to give, he’d back off, drop it, immediately. Maybe explain himself a little, but that was all.
That alone was refreshing.
A ten foot civilization Ender trying to test out Danny’s level of willingness to commit murder, shouldn’t be ‘refreshing’… but it was.
Pariah was everything he didn’t have. Everything he’d never had.
And wasn’t that an awful thing?
What’s worse is it made Danny feel… off kilter. It just wasn’t what he was used to. His experience with so called ‘parental figures’ was lie, hide, and subdue everything.
Be enough for their wants and their needs but never too much. Never too you. If it was a situation where he didn’t have to then he wouldn’t, but with mom and dad he always had to. With anyone with actual claim to the term ‘parent’ with him, he had to.
Until Pariah.
Mom and dad left the door open, the latch ajar, for someone else to come in and scoop him up.
Pariah wanted of him of course. Wanted for him. But he also just wanted Danny seemingly. Wanted Danny as Danny. No lies. No hiding. No subduing his self.
Pariah didn’t like stars. Well he did, he just liked the stars because Danny liked the stars. Danny’s mom and dad couldn’t even understand the concept of liking something just because someone else, because their kid, did.
Pariah, he… felt more a parent each day and each night than Maddie or Jack did.
Every day he sent the FrightKnight as his guard, not because he wanted to ‘keep an eye’ on Danny, but because he wanted Danny safe. Because he did not view Danny as safe in his home environment… or a school… or at his friend’s homes.
Every night he decided to show up and glare menacingly at whatever ghost was bugging Danny, all so he could have some ‘father/son’ time.
Every day he just plain played with him, no ‘how to be a parent’ book needed.
Every night he’d sit on the observatory and let Danny explain the constellations at him even though he’d seen them all before.
Every day he eagerly teach Danny maths and social and even English, in place of living teachers who had long since given up on him.
Every night he simply let Danny sleep purely because he knows Danny needs to.
Then there was what he didn’t do.
He didn’t tell Danny half of what he was, was lesser than him. No, just that everyone was beneath them, because they were king and prince. No bigotry, no bias. It was simple status.
He didn’t gift him backhandedly or gift him only things that were useful to ‘the parent’ instead.
He didn’t disregard him and all that was his. Didn’t give him nothing answers.
Most of all, he didn’t experiment on him. Tests of skill or knowledge, sure, but not experiments, and the tests were with good reason.
Danny being weak, Danny being unskilled, Danny be unaware; would be dangerous. For him, for Pariah, for both of them. It wasn’t the same, it was always willing, eager even.
Pariah… was making Danny happy. Not like the contentment from when he was a young naive child. Actually happy.
That just… also hurt. Because it should be his mom and dad doing that. Having that effect. Not someone Danny met only because of an ill-thought fight and Vlad machinations.
But at some point Danny has to choose himself. His happiness. Choose a future with him happy in it.
Mom and dad.
Maddie and Jack.
Weren’t that future.
They never were. Never even could be. They didn’t have the capacity to be. Not for him, not for Jazz, not for anyone. That’s not Danny’s fault. That’s not Jazz’s fault. He can’t even blame Vlad. It was just them. Maddie and Jack. But that’s what made it hurt too.
Because they were happy the way they were. Hurting and failing those they chose to bring into the world by force. And happy people… can’t be changed. Shouldn’t be really.
It would be really selfish of Danny.
So he’ll let them have their peace. Without him.
It’s okay. It hurts, but it’s okay.
Danny had someone who did want him. Who did change for him. Pariah wanted Danny. And Danny likes being wanted, wants to be wanted.
Was that so wrong?
Was it okay for him to… actually pick Pariah? As a dad?
It… felt like it was but it also felt like it wasn’t.
Danny made his choice already. Made it a while ago. Long before he met Pariah. Long before he died. Long before he even understood that not choosing Maddie and Jack was even an option.
It just…
He just… needed to realize that. Mourn that. Hurt a little.
And he had. He really really had.
The realization will settle in. The mourning will peter down. The hurt will dull.
But at least that was an adjustment he wouldn’t have to bear alone.
Even if Pariah didn’t get Danny’s emotions, because they were too human or perhaps simply to foreign to Pariah himself, he would still make an effort to get them or hear them or soften them to something easier for Danny.
That’s so so much more than he’s ever had.
Still.
He has to stay. Stay here. In this house. For two more years, regardless of his falling off breaking non-attachment to its owners. He will be here, but he’ll be motionless. He won’t be himself.
He has nothing left to give.
They failed him, and Pariah came like holy water being poured on him. The devil always seemed so much kinder than god.
Will they even know? Will they be able to tell?
Like astronomy, they were whole worlds apart. Whole universes.
They already rarely see him. His room his only home here. The night. The sky. The stars. Even more so home.
Will they one day realize that he too -so much like Jazz but so much painfully later- had lost his will to believe in them? That he tried so hard but they never had anything. Had nothing for him.
Would he just be a memory?
Would they?
Once you reach the sky, you can’t look down at the sea.
A ghost gave him hope and an idea of what happiness was, what it could be.
He… he can almost laugh at how crazy that might drive them…
If they cared at all, or if they just dismissed him with their nothings.
Pariah would care. Pariah would laugh with him. And Danny’s heart and core would beat and pulse all the more with it.
Pariah could have him as son.
Pariah had him as son.
And Danny?
Danny, for once, for once in his life and death, had a dad.
As much as it hurt, he couldn’t bear the sound of loosing what he’s never before found.
And with that, the Infinite Realms had a king and prince too. And Danny could make Pariah love the place again. Want it to flourish again.
Because Danny wanted that.
Danny wanted it to thrive.
That place was the space he’d never get to see. The spaceship he can’t fly.
He can’t force a star that’s already died to align with living ones.
But he’ll reach out into the void with his small child ghost hands, and this time…
This time…
He won’t grab the wrong hand.
You look nothing like my mother
You look nothing like my father.
Dark thrashing, calling my name
Looming, threatening, and shaking the latch
You look nothing like my mother I know no mother.
You look exactly like my father.
End.
Prompts: Pariah Dark adopts Danny. He is a surprising dedicated to being a good parent. "This had all been for his own good, he knew that. Still, it was hard to remember that sometimes."

Can I ask for more Penguin Danny?
Your wish is my command.
Honestly, I've had this one snippet stuck in my head for a while, so thank you for the excuse to write it ✨
--
Danny sat huddled with a few of the smaller penguins, relaxing into their warm feathers as much as he could as he took in the situation developing before him.
About two months ago, a group of scientists geared up for the harsh cold had arrived in the Arctic. They had taken up residence in the frigid metal building Danny had spent some time in when he first got here, bringing life and warmth to their base that hadn't been there when the teen needed it.
At first, they kept to themselves. Taking water samples from the snow and ice pools that covered the territory. But it was only a week later that they moved on to examining the colony that had taken Danny in. They would pull a penguin or two away from the group, giving them fish and krill while they measured the small creatures and attached a monitor to the animal's sleek feathers, releasing them back to the group to loudly squawk their tales to the rest of the birds.
Eventually, they made their way inwards, away from the penguin hunting hunting grounds and towards their nests. It was then that they saw Danny for the first time.
It had been funny, at first. The coat clad researchers had frozen, before chatting frantically. With how long Danny had spent hiding out in the cold, he wasn't surprised that it took a while to understand what they were saying. It did filter in, though, the longer they hung around. Words that he knew, but didn't make a lot of sense in the limited context he had. Stuff like "baby" and "different" were obvious, especially when they gestured at him as they spoke. But other words, like, "unusually large", and "dangerous" confused him.
Was he a bit bigger than the birds around him? Yes, yes he was. But he didn't think he was unusually large for the species he was supposed to be. Then again, it's not like he had ever actually seen a baby emperor penguin before, so he had no real life reference. But they were big birds! Surely that meant they had big babies? And even if he was bigger than he was supposed to be, how was anything about this situation was 'dangerous'?
It didn't help his opinion of the researchers when they tried to move him away from the flock. Trails of treats were fine and dandy at first, and easily ignored by the teen seeing as he didn't need the same amount of food as an actual baby penguin of his size (perks of being able to feed on ambient ectoplasm). When he didn't seem inclined to follow the trail like some of the others, who had all come back squawking about the researchers manhandling them again, they tried a more straightforward approach.
The teen would never forget the day those puffy coats pushed gently through the throng of black and white bodies until they boxed him in on all sides. His panicked squeaky screeches had immediately attracted the attention of the birds, and those pesky puffy coats had some nice tears in them for the troubles they caused. After that, the researchers found themselves being chased by the entire colony if they came to close, angry screeches drowning out their own panicked yells and occasional yells of pain when a beak managed to find purchase.
As much as he appreciated the colonies fierce protection, the teen should have known that it would draw attention. Those researchers were out here for a reason, probably some sort of documentary on the wildlife that thrived in colder environments. Maybe something about endangered species or global warming. Whatever it was, it had them hanging around, taking pictures and writing in journals.
It should have been more obvious to him that something was bound to happen. Pictures, even when he looked normal to the mortal eye, could easily reveal a different truth. It didn't take long for pristine white coats to appear, scouting the area with ecto-trackers in hand a blasters holstered at their sides.
The confrontation a full month after the researchers arrived was a bit surprising, and it took everything in Danny's new fuzzy body to stop from launching himself at the men in black rip offs when they leveled their blasters at the colorful puff coats.
The puff coats were sturdier people than he thought, though. Instead of backing off, like anyone else would do, they argued. Blocking the easier paths to the nesting grounds, tampering with their equipment while they were distracted with whatever ecto readings they were getting, even resorting to throwing things when the came too close to trampling one penguin Danny had affectionately dubbed 'Steve'.
And now here Danny was. Cozied up with a decent group of mother penguins and their babies while the fathers took their turn to hunt. Watching as the guys in white ran around screaming. The cause of their screams? The child with a sword that was chasing them.
At this point in his (after)life, Danny shouldn't be surprised by anything. And yet, surprising things continued to occur. Maybe he should ask someone if he was cursed or something.
The penguins around him shifted, letting out warbles and startled peeps as they resettled. Danny shook himself, pulling his attention away from the potential murder occuring in front of him to look at the source of his new friend's unrest. And was once again reminded to not be surprised by the surprising things that occured around him.
The half Kryptonian child that sat next to him gave the teen a smile and a gentle pat before turning his attention to where his friend continued to swing his katana, catching one of the scanners and a bit of an agents hand with the wickedly sharp blade. The kid next to Danny winced and cupped his hands over his mouth. "Robin! Remember what Nightwing told you before we left!"
The sword wielding child tisked loudly, the sound muffled slightly by the snow that was beginning to fall, but resumed his fighting with a little more effort in not hitting the agents with his blade. The handle of his sword, however, was used just as effectively. The Kryptonian kid sighed, but didn't call out again, instead reaching out to pet some of Danny's fuzzy brown down feathers.
This was fine, Danny decided. It wouldn't be fine forever, but for now it was. And whatever came after this, he could always try throwing vicious penguins at it. It worked well enough the first time.

Sponsored By
Ironically, the most eventful day in the careers of Mr. and Mrs. Fenton had nothing to do with ghosts. The two had just returned from the supermarket and were carrying in the groceries, when the shadow in the corner began to speak.
"We need to talk."
"GHOST!"
The couple were on their back before they could draw their weapons.
"You are the foremost experts in the field of ecto-biology," said Batman as if he hadn't just brought down a three hundred pound man and a ninth-degree black-belt before either of them could realize he'd moved, "I have questions regarding your sponsor."
"Sweetie, is the Batman in our living room?" asked Jack.
"I do believe he is," replied Maddie as she stood up and patted the dust off her clothes, "you know, you could have called for an appointment. We'd have made time."
"In the 80's, the two of you had your doctorate studies rescinded due to your studies in what you called "ecto-science"," he stated, ignoring their indignation, "yet you now live in an upper-middle class neighborhood and spend thousands of dollars a year on technology that didn't have a proper proof-of-concept until recently."
"What's your point?" asked Jack.
"Where is the money coming from?"
"If you must know, we have a sponsor," replied Maddie, "after our dean proved to be too small-minded for our research, we were approached by a man who was more open to the possibility of inter-dimensional research."
"He wanted us to study ghosts!" cut in Jack, "He even gave us our very first sample of ectoplasm!"
"That one sample was the backbone of our research for years, until we got our portal running."
"You never asked where he got that sample from?"
"He seemed like a trust-worthy fellow," dismissed Maddie, "all he asks is for copies of our experiments and for ectoplasm from our portal."
"What sort of experiments?"
"Well, at first we needed to verify the psycho-active behavior of the sample," recalled Maddie, "if you give me a second, I have my research around here somewhere."
"You took the sample to several morgues," Batman told them, "the sample's most drastic and extreme behavior occurred when it was placed close to bodies who had a history of violent and anti-social behavior in life."
"Maddie, the League's reading our papers!" Jack giggled excitedly, "But yes, it's how we know that all ghosts are evil ectoplasmic scum!"
"You never questioned the origin of the sample?"
"It was the only sample we had," pointed out Maddie, "but it's properties matched all of our theories."
"The man you spoke with was Ra's al Ghul," he informed them, dropping a folder full of pictures and documents for them to peruse, "thousands of years ago, Ra's found a well of green water that is now known as a Lazarus Pit. Using its power, he has rejuvenated himself time and again to maintain his position as the head of the League of Assassins. After some experimentation, he found the same pits could keep his forces alive, even in death.
"Over time, the League came across a problem that threatened their continued existence. They were consuming the Pit's water faster than it was replenishing itself. After much experimentation, they found a solution. At the moment of death, when the human soul passes over to the Infinite Realms, what you call the Ghost Zone, a small amount of ectoplasm leaks over to our side."
"Wait, you don't mean...?" Maddie trailed off, horror settling in.
"Ra's killed people en masse to replenish his pool," affirmed Batman, "further experimentation revealed that people who died in a state of extreme fear or pain provided more ferocious soldiers. That is where your sample came from.
"In it's neutral state, ectoplasm reacts equally to all emotional ranges. Repeated exposure to emotional extremes will imprint the ectoplasm, causing it to react more strongly to a specific emotional range than to others. The negative emotions of Ra's victims imprinted on the ectoplasm, resulting in your skewed results."
"Wait, how would you know that?" demanded Maddie, "We're the foremost experts on ecto-science and we didn't know that!"
He pulled out a thick folder and slammed it onto the table.
"I had my research peer-reviewed."
"By who?" asked Jack, "We looked all over and couldn't find anyone in the scientific community!"
"You weren't looking in the right place. There is a branch of the Justice League that specializes in the supernatural, ghosts and demons chief among them. They want me to bring you in."
"Really!? Did you hear that Mads! We're being recruited by the Justice League!"
"They want me to arrest you," Batman corrected them, "for illegal poaching of innocent and neutral spirits, particularly after last week's attack on their newest member, Danny Phantom."
"The Ghost Boy!?" roared Jack, "That no-good ectoscum made the League before we did!?"
"I have watched his fights. He takes care to avoid collateral damage and only appears when other ghosts attack, sometimes at great personal cost."
"Look, Mr. Batman," sighed Maddie in a condescending tone, "we've fought the ghost boy for years. He has a history of crime and violence. If you look far enough, you'll find-."
Batman had no time for nonsense.
"The League has already looked into the incidents. All show indications of either coercion or mind control."
"Ghosts are deceitful and conniving-!"
"We have already established that your initial sample skewed your results," he cut Jack off, "this would imply that all of your research and experiments need to be reassessed, including your opinions towards ghosts in general.
"Regarding Ra's al Ghul, you will need to continue working with him. Cutting contact suddenly may put you and your family in danger."
That caught their attention.
"What do we need to do?" asked Jack, all jokes and outrage immediately tossed out the window.
"Keep doing your research with this new information in mind. Your experiments have been applied to the Lazarus Pits, resulting in unstable results. Recent subjects have come out in a mindless rage, while others have shown no effect on their mind, and yet others have had no effect. Ra's is already skeptical of your continued collaboration. If you provide him with research based off this new information, he may decide you are not worth his time or money. When it comes to Ra's, your best option is dismissal to irrelevance. You do not want to make an enemy out of him."
"It's not just that," admitted Maddie, "if we were the only ones being affected, we'd simply let him know we're exploring new horizons outside of ecto-science. The thing is, we have two children, one in college and one near graduation."
He gave them a card. "Call that number. All of their college expenses will be taken care of."
"I... Bruce Wayne?" read out Jack.
"We've collaborated before, he is trustworthy," he reassured them, "the next part is up to you. Will you be scientists, or poachers?"
Their lights flickered, and he was gone.

So, lore in the Good GIW AU:
A good amount of my Danny Phantom ghost hunter lore - in all my fics, not just this one - is rooted in the assumption that pre-portal, all the Fentons and the GIW (and all other researchers) had to work from was a slightly more concrete version of the stories we have in the real world. They don't know about Nocturne and Vortex and Pariah Dark; they know about the Bell Witch and Alcatraz and Mary King's Close, and some historical journals/records that they believe are ghost sightings.
(Ignore all debunking that's happened in the real world, let's not be pedantic here.)
'Guardian spirit' is an obsession category; we'll elaborate on this later. There are multiple subcategories, but the GIW hasn't finalized those yet because of their vaguely inadequate sample size. (Ghosts don't use subcategories but the original obsession categories come from them.) (We'll actually see this either next week or the week after in The Life and Death of Danny Phantom.)
'Death-bound' is the term for a couple that died together and whose main obsession is to be together forever.
Newly dead ghosts (usually five years or less) retain their human appearance. They start to shift to a more ghostly one after that, and that can take another five to ten years.
Angel's Ambrosia is, unbeknownst to Danny, a god-tier offering. You could give three of these to Pariah Dark and he would consider it an acceptable gift. At some point, the GIW managed to get one of these by sheer happenstance and cultivated it into a fruiting tree with an elaborate setup of ecto-projectors and filters.
The main reason they're so valuable is because they grow only in areas with a very low ghost population, making their ecto very 'pure.' If a ghost goes to pick one, their aura sullies the taste, and if lots do it, the tree dies. Their best bet is to hover way, way below and hope a fruit falls off, or maybe throw something.
'Liminal' here is a term used by spiritualists, while the ectology term is the standard 'ectocontaminated.' Ghosts don't have an equivalent term because they don't care about ecto-infected humans lmfao.
Summoners get one warning and after that they need a license to summon anything.
I spent way too much time on this.

How to Become a Step-Dad in 5 Easy Steps: chp. 7 (Interlude: Life According to Ellie)
first, prev, next, lore, ao3
~~~
We interrupt your regularly scheduled program for a peak at the world through Ellie's eyes.
Or
In which I take liberties with canon and give you a peak at Ellie's backstory.
~~~
Her earliest memories include floating.
Back when she couldn't open her eyes just yet and understand she was in a vat of liquid.
Those days are hazy. She doesn't remember much from them. Not that there was much to remember in the first place.
The most she has of that time are these cloudy impressions of a man's voice, disappointed and begrudging.
Awareness slowly crept into her, her mind filled with basic data copied over from her blueprint. Although she didn't know it at the time, her barely functioning mind wondered if that floating feeling was how it felt to fly.
She knows now that the freeing sensation of flying is not quite the same.
But a small part of her loves taking baths and going swimming. She likes to lean back, her ears submerged muffling the world, and her limbs slightly fanned out.
Sometimes, if she closes her eyes and slows her breath, she can call back that floating sensation from when everything was easy because she wasn't enough of a person to know how hard the world could be.
~
She remembers how nice he'd been at first.
He held her by the shoulders and gave her first name: Danielle.
He taught her everything she knew about the world: science, mechanics, ecto-biology, and all the things in her head she couldn't explain like NASA or school.
He told her place in the world: by his side. Her role was to be there for him. She was to support him, and in turn, he'd take care of her.
She was meant to be his family.
He said she was his daughter. Told her to call him dad.
And she did.
She believed it when he said he cared. She thought it was like those impressions of emotions that carried over from her blueprint. (A man who made mistakes, who was scary at times, but ultimately, who cared.)
In hindsight, maybe that's why it hurt so much when she realized it was a lie.
~
She remembers her intimate familiarity with death.
It was more than just a part of her nature. It was a constant presence.
She remembers how he used to invite her to help him in the lab. How he'd trust her to push buttons or hold important materials. She remembers how she watched helplessly as he spent countless nights in frustration, trying and failing again and again to create another clone.
A brother for her, he claimed.
She watched him face loss after loss. Growing increasingly desperate after each new attempt dissolved away in bubbles of green. The first time she'd seen it happen she'd felt sick to her stomach. She'd wanted to cry, but he had needed her more then. So she let him train her, get his frustrations out with a spar.
It would reassure him, he had said, if he could ensure she could protect herself. That she was stronger than her brothers. That she could beat anyone who got in his their way.
She remembers sitting in front of the cloning chambers after he'd gone back up for the night and finally crying. Letting herself silently grieve all the brothers she would never know.
Perhaps it was that frustration that led her to believe that the panic he had shown the first time she began destabilizing was genuine concern.
Perhaps that's why she believed him when he said the only way to save her was with DNA samples from her blueprint: Daniel.
~
Danielle remembers meeting Daniel, or rather Danny, for the first time. At first, he'd been confused, troubled, by her presence. But despite his frustrations, he was kind. He listened to her. They shared a kinship she'd only imagined having before with her brothers.
He gave her a nickname to match his own: Dani
She remembers thinking how he was everything.
Danny was her cure. Her blueprint. Her namesake. Her key to finally having a stable brother. The origin of all the thoughts and feelings she didn't quite understand. The embodiment of all that he had wanted her to be and a reminder of everything she wasn't.
And after being double-crossed and tossed aside, Danny somehow became even more.
Her "cousin".
Her savior.
Her liberator.
Her protector.
Perhaps one of the only two people in the world who genuinely cared for her at the time.
She remembers how much he cared. All the ways he tried to protect her.
The way he let her go.
Let her fly off into the night because he knew she needed to find herself. To be untethered. To experience the world and learn. To never be chained or used like that again because something deep within her would not allow it. He wanted her to stay but let her go.
She remembers his promise to always be there for her.
And she believed him.
She's glad she did.
~
Dani has memories of traveling the world.
Of exotic locales and exciting adventures.
She remembers the hunger and loneliness that came with independence. The nights she sought out shelter or aid and the cruelty of those who denied it to her. She remembers the faces of strangers who'd lean on each other because they had to but would leave in an instant for something better.
But she also remembers the joy of freedom. The kindness of strangers whose hearts were bigger than their budgets. Those who gave freely without expecting anything in return. Of families forged by experience who often offered her a place to return to.
She often turned them down. She already had a place to return to if she ever wished.
Danny reached out to check on her from time to time. So did Val and the others. They kept her updated. She remembers feeling a surging warmth in her chest each time they assured Dani they kept space for her in their lives.
She remembers visiting on the day they assigned her birthday (Danny's half birthday). She recalls getting a phone to stay in touch and a camera to take photos. She remembers getting hugs, and cake, and an offer to live with Jazz or Danny at one of their places.
She remembers feeling loved.
She remembers when she stopped hearing from Danny briefly. She decided to go back for a visit. To check on her family them.
She remembers that's when things changed.
~
She remembers being angry.
The Idiots in White had been bothering Danny for a while now. He'd been successfully avoiding them at every turn, undermining their operations, and keeping both civilians and ghosts safe. Ugh- why did these guys have to plague them so much?
She remembers being disappointed in herself.
How could she have let them get a jump on her? Those two-bit losers weren't good for much except destruction. Figures they'd resorted to ambushing her in a forest. Another thing she'd inherited from Danny was his inability to let things lie, so when she heard a cry from the forest she decided to check it out.
It had been a trap.
The wails had been from some poor ectopus they'd been torturing with a ghost trap. When she'd gone to free it, they jumped out and hit her from behind with their weapons. She recalls one of them saying they'd been hoping to catch Phantom, but she'd do. Through all her anger and annoyance a small part of her was relieved.
'At least Danny was safe' she remembered thinking.
When she woke up, Dani was in a small box of a containment unit that was keeping her in ghost form.
~
She remembers being scared.
She couldn't turn back. She was stuck. They refused to give her food. Dani was dead, they said. An ectoplasmic being that wasn't even truly sentient. What was the use of wasting food on her when she should be able to sustain herself with ectoplasm?
But she's not a full ghost.
Heck- she's not even a proper halfa!
She's a clone, a Mirrorborn.
She can't generate enough ecto without supplemental energy from an outside source. Usually, that'd be food, another ecto-entity, heck even a particularly ecto-dense area like Amity. But she didn't have any of those things right now.
She only had herself.
She remembers cursing her faulty biology. Danny wouldn't have these problems, nor would any full ghost. Staying in her ghost form ate up her energy faster than she could create ectoplasm to sustain herself while trapped in this cell. She couldn't even use her powers to try and escape it would drain her too fast. At this rate she'd- she'd destabilize again.
She remembered trying to reassure herself. Val knew she had been coming, she'd know something was up when Dani didn't check in. She'd tell the others. Her family Danny and his friends would come looking for her.
She wrapped her arms around her knees and rocked herself, the way she used to on those nights alone in the lab, muttering to herself that they would come.
She remembers growing weaker. Feeling sluggish and heavy as her body began to droop. Her sagging skin turned gray and green as she slowly lost sensation in her limbs. Then, just as the panic and despair began to set in, she heard the alarms and loud crashes.
She remembers the surge of emotion that coursed through her as voices approached. Two unknowns, one that belonged to him, and one more.
She remembers the flood of relief she felt.
It was Danny.
He had come for her. He'd teamed up with whoever he needed to in order to come get her. He was there.
She remembered his voice: Hard with an icy rage, trembling with fear for her, yet confident and reassuring, telling her it would be alright.
She had believed him.
Perhaps that's why even as his eyes grew wild, even as he desperately called her name Dani? Dani! Danielle, come on! Keep your eyes open! Just keep them open Dani- please! Please, Dani! DANIELLE! ELLIE! she still let her eyes fall closed.
Because she trusted him.
She remembers thinking how, even with an ice core, Danny's arms were so warm.
She remembers trying to reach out a melting hand, her destabilization only partially slowed thanks to ecto-dejecto, to caress his cheek. Using the last of her energy to pry her eyes open and give him her patented mischievous smile. She had tried to comfort him.
Dani remembers her last words to him: "Thank you."
Thank you for coming. Thank you for being so warm. Thank you for crying for me. Thank you for caring.
Thank you.
For allowing Dani's last moments to be filled with love.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Danny held a small orb weakly glowing a pale blue color. He clutched it to his torso as tears burned down his skin like acid. He phased the orb into his chest, nestling it close to his heart. He turned in a feral rage towards the agents rushing up behind him. His grief-filled eyes were glowing a toxic green. His canines elongated into fangs that curled into a snarl. His aching hands willed his gloves to become gauntlets that accommodated piercingly sharp claws. His aura grew cold enough to burn. He tilted his head back(this wasn't the first time he'd done it). He took a deep breath, (and he'd do it a thousand more for her). And then, Phantom Wailed.
~
She doesn't remember retreating into her core.
But she does remember being inside of it.
She remembers calloused hands that held her close.
She remembers a gentle voice singing her lullabies.
She remembers soft lips that kiss her carefully.
She remembers a familiar warm embrace, their cores vibrating in harmony.
She remembers the whispers that give her her next name: Ellie.
She's Ellie now.
She slowly grew stronger and she remembered all the things Dani knew. She looked over her knowledge and memories and then thought back to the man who cared for her so diligently. Maybe Dani hadn't known. Or maybe she had and had been scared to acknowledge it.
But she was Ellie now.
Dani knew that Danny could be scary. That Danny made mistakes. That Danny tried to be there for her in whatever ways he could. That he undeniably cared for her.
And as Ellie mulled over this knowledge, she came to a conclusion.
'This,' she realized. 'This is what a real father is like.'
And when she had finally regained enough strength to emerge from her core, albeit with her mind and body now matching the age of her core, the first thing she did was seek him.
The first word she spoke as Ellie, her arms out stretched toward him, unmistakable glee in her voice, had been,
"Daddy!"
.
.
.
Danny held her the young girl who'd called out to him. She was so small. Smaller than she'd been before. Her mind was younger too. But, Danny? He was older now. He had some money now. He had independence from his parents and had reliable allies, both in the Realms and in the mortal plane now. So as he held this young girl in his arms, one who reach for him and called him her daddy, he made a resolution. 'This time,' he promised himself. 'This time I'll take care of you.'
~
Ellie's father had a lot to do even after she woke up. She stayed with Frosty in the Far Frozen while he, Sammy, Tuck, Jazz, and Val dealt with some legal matters in the mortal plane.
Ellie would sometimes get visitors, like the young-old boy-man who smelled like ozone and the old guy with the smokey aura that helped her dad rescue her. When she was a little better her father would take her with him. Sometimes they'd go back to Amity, other times he'd leave her with a sitter while he was off doing some sort of research. She spent time learning about the realms with them. Pandy, Dora, Frosty, and Clockpa were her favorites.
Then one day her dad introduced her to a new ghost, someone she'd never met before.
She was a Neverborn.
A City Spirit.
She was a tall woman. Her hair was an inky black bob that just brushed the string of pearls around her neck. Her skin was a splattery mix of black and white. She wore leather armor around her chest with a bat emblazoned on it. Attached to her shoulders was a short asymmetric cape that's right side ended near her thigh while the left stopped just below her hip. On her lower half, she wore a black sheath skirt with a slit in the side coming just above her knee. It's fabric had a slight multicolored sheen to it, almost reminiscent of an oil spill or a crow's feathers. These were joined at her hips by an art deco belt of interlocking diamonds attached to a buckle with a beautiful geometric design, that had numerous firearms attached to it. In her hands, she held a pike, one longer than Pandora's xyston spear. Her aura was one that was old and well acquainted with misery, yet she felt almost motherly.
She introduced herself as Lady Gotham and offered them tea.
Dad explained that he wanted them to live in Lady Gotham's city. Gotham was rich in both ectoplasm and magic, which would help sustain her even when did wasn't around. Her aura was near ancient and could mask theirs for at least a decade or two. She could protect them, hide them. She could offer them a safe place to live their lives.
She told them her qualifications. She was a well-established spirit in the realms with centuries of experience governing her haunt and exerting power over the mortal plane while still in the Realms. She had layers of protections, including a reputation most mortals wouldn't dare trifle with. Additionally, she had several Knights protecting her mortal haunt, all of varying liminality. Her greatest pride resting in one of the legends Ellie had grown fond of. (Ghosts were prolific storytellers and notorious gossips.)
The tale of Gotham's Red Prince was well known within the realms. One of her knights, whom she loved like a son, resurrected a revenant. As an Avenger. Gotham's claim on him was the strongest among her knights and her love for him was just as great. Many a denizen of the realms has heard of his drive to avenge the unavenged, to bring justice and peace. Many admire him greatly. In fact, Ellie's pretty sure Sidney and GW are part of his fan club.
Danny had also done his own research on the city, he explained to her. Once he had deemed it acceptable and shared his findings with the others. After receiving a seal of approval from the rest of Team Phantom he had come to her.
It would be her home too, her dad said. She deserved a say in it.
Ellie looked back at Lady Gotham once. Then, at the research and photos. And then, she looked back to her dad and nodded.
She believed Gotham could become a home, she told him.
~
Ellie remembers that the first few days were hectic.
Dad was running around like a headless chicken trying to get everything in order. They went shopping, Dad got his job, they moved in with help from Auntie Jazz and Uncle Tuck. Auntie Sammy and Auntie Val couldn't leave Amity unprotected so only the two of them had been there. Auntie Jazz had helped Dad organize and Uncle Tuck set up their documents and security system. They both had to go back after a few days though, each having their own respective internships to get back to.
Ellie was happy though. She got her own room, she already made friends with a nice girl named Sasha, and the air here tasted a bit spicy with all the magic and ecto mixing together.
It was nice. She and her dad finally felt normal.
~
Ellie remembers meeting Jason for the first time.
They'd been living in Gotham for about a week so far. Daddy was on the phone, talking to him, while trying to open the door when they both sense an ecto-entity enter the hall. A prominent aura filled the hall. It's presence was commanding, but it felt comforting too like fire and wood smoke. It held a sense of rightness and Ellie could tell it was probably whatever ecto-entity had claimed the Haunt nearby.
She looked down the hall and her eyes met a pair of blue-green eyes. She looked curiously at the man, quickly realizing he was at the center of the aura that fluctuated with emotion in reaction to her dad's conversation.
A revenant, she concluded. A tad surprised they had run into one so quickly.
And then they kept running into him.
And Ellie couldn't help but think he was pretty great.
Jason always made yummy food for them. He was strong and picked her up easily. He always listened when she was talking and even asked questions. He played with her and read to her and made her feel better when she was sad.
~
Ellie remembered the day her dad had collapsed and how scared she'd been. She remembers the scary look on his face when he had come to get them. But he wanted to help, he had come. So she called him her uncle, that way Sasha's mom would let him through. She remembers how he'd taken them home and looked after her and her dad. She remembers feeling something warm grow in her chest as he awkwardly agreed to her claims that she'd move in with him.
~
She remembers how he sat next to her in the hall the day she locked herself out. How he comforted her and told her about the mistakes he made too. It had made her feel better. If someone as cool and nice as Jason made mistakes, then maybe it was okay. Maybe she wasn't a failure.
~
Now, as Ellie lays in her bed, she thinks back to tonight. She thinks about the gift Jason gave her.
Maybe he thought it was just a pencil case but to Ellie it was proof.
Proof of how nice Jason was. Proof he listened and knew she liked aircrafts. Proof he thought of them even when they weren't around. Proof the he cared. Cared enough to do something like this without needing to be asked.
She smiled into her pillow and thought back to her dad's smile. Recently she noticed the different smiles she barely saw before making their way onto her dad's face. She saw them a lot more now when Jason was around. If Jason made her dad happy, then she was glad to keep seeing more of him. She was happy to be able to claim him as family.
She clutched her blanket tight, and she allowed herself to drift off, thinking that maybe, just maybe, she wouldn't mind if one day she could call him something other than her uncle.
~~~
That all for now folks! No pressing notices but please feel free to hit me up in the comments. I welcome feedback and constructive criticism!
