The gunhalberd of Nael Van Darnus was named "Bradamante", after Nael's betrothed. The poor maiden impaled herself on the very blade upon hearing of his death. Nael's sister, Eula, renamed the weapon to keep the deceased lovers together.

Did not know about Eula van Darnus, I just assumed that Bahamut had force-femmed Nael for some reason.

(and we know Eula was a retcon for sure, though they try real hard to avoid saying the word “retcon” and said they went back and wrote that she’d always been a woman actually and created a story to support and gang, that’s a retcon...)

Eula Darnus was the eldest daughter of House Darnus and dreamt of becoming a chirurgeon, as befitted a Garlean lady. However, she gave up on the dream when her brother, Nael, returned home with wounds she could not heal.

Today’s 1.0 lookback - Rock me, armored Deus:

-Van Darnus is hobbled after the first leg of the fight.  Rather than taking the opportunity to finish him off, the adventurer and accompanying party pause to let him complain about being ‘bested by mere beasts’, and that the worst of them hails from his own land, meaning Cid.

-Rather than conquest, as Gaius and the Emperor would have it, Van Darnus maintains his claim that purifying the realm is the only way to go.  He gives himself over wholly to Dalamud.

-As the area fills with red light from the false moon, Nael floats upward, out of sight for but a moment.  The adventurer finds him still floating before Dalamud, surrounded with crystaline projections which fan out like wings on either side of him.  

-The original Nael Deus Darnus drifts down to the platform, and battle resumes.
