What did you think of the first phase of the WCU?

Hmmm, you know what. I'm reviewing it.

First of all Dragon from 2008, the movie that started it all.

I liked:

●Seeing her origin, how newfoundland fell and her sheer sense of powerlessness before triggering.

●The evolution from her first crude suit to a more regined dragon armor.

●I liked RDJ as Collin, i was very happed they picked up his stinger for the sequel.

●Teacher was a pretty good villain, hapoy they didn't kill him off.

What i didn't like:

●Gwynnet Paltrow's character was unnecesary, why would dragon need a secretary???

●It doesn't get how to make you feel stakes when the protag is an IA

●Terrence Howard as Rennick is just there, and how they changed the actor in the next film left a sour taste.

Then you have Lung: Dragon of Kyushu.

What can i say that hasn't been said yet? I was skeptic for them reimagining Lung as a hero but it just works.

I like how it set up Leviathan as the overarching villain of the phase, i like how it has that runaway vibe with Kenta running from the Yangban.

The CGI of his fight against Seven was pasable, and the post credit scene with Zero planning to hunt him down went nowhere. But idc, it was overall pretty good. 9/10

I would have killed for another Lung movie.

The ugly duckling of Phase 1, Dragon 2.

I honestly liked it more than the first one, Saint and the dragon slayers are an actual threat that works.

Dragons own issues with her nature are explored in a neat way.

I liked the teacher plot twist at the end, that he had been manipulating saint.

And please tell me the scene of Dragon and Armsmaster killing the Dragonslayers didn't fuck.

A coming of age story about a young man leaving his nazi family behind.

It kind of gets completely interrumpted by the Slaughterhouse nine tbh.

Like i get you are building up a cinematic universe but having some guy show up, say "i will come back on a couple years and kill everybody and thats on you" and fuck off wasn't terribly great.

But the final fight against Hookwolf as a middlepoint between the nazi family subplot and the slaughterhouse 9 subplot worked.

I don't like flashback movies in big cinematic universes. Sometimes they feel like they don't mean a thing on the long term because most characters are dead so they won't affect that comes later.

Liked how director Armstrong got to assemble the tram through the movies.

I don't know how to feel about Blue Flechette, apparently her first costume in the comics was like that? Idk.

Scarlett Johansen as Queen aka Emily Piggot from the PRT was cool.

The Vera C. Rubin Observatory will detect millions of exploding stars

Measuring distances across the universe is much more challenging than measuring distances on Earth. Is a brighter star closer to Earth than another, or is it just emitting more light? To make confident distance measurements, scientists rely on objects that emit a known amount of light, like Type Ia supernovae.

These spectacular explosions, among the brightest to ever be recorded in the night sky, result from the violent deaths of white dwarf stars and provide scientists with a reliable cosmic yardstick. Their brightness and color, combined with information about their host galaxies, allow scientists to calculate their distance and how much the universe expanded while their light made its journey to us. With enough Type Ia supernovae observations, scientists can measure the universe's expansion rate and whether it changes over time.

Although we've caught thousands of Type Ia supernovae to date, seeing them once or twice is not enough—there is a goldmine of information in how their fleeting light varies over time. NSF–DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory will soon begin scanning the southern hemisphere sky every night for ten years, covering the entire hemisphere approximately every few nights. Every time Rubin detects an object changing brightness or position it will send an alert to the science community. With such rapid detection, Rubin will be our most powerful tool yet for spotting Type Ia supernovae before they fade away.

Rubin Observatory is a joint program of NSF NOIRLab and DOE's SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, which will cooperatively operate Rubin.

Scientists like Anais Möller, a member of the Rubin/LSST Dark Energy Science Collaboration, look forward to Rubin's decade-long Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST), during which it's expected to detect millions of Type Ia supernovae.

"The large volume of data from Rubin will give us a sample of all kinds of Type Ia supernovae at a range of distances and in many different types of galaxies," says Möller.

In fact, Rubin will discover many more Type Ia supernovae in the first few months of the LSST than were used in the initial discovery of dark energy—the mysterious force causing the universe to expand faster than expected based on gravitational theory. Current measurements hint that dark energy might change over time, which—if confirmed—could help refine our understanding of the universe's age and evolution. That in turn would impact what we understand about how the universe formed, including how quickly stars and galaxies formed in the early universe.

With a much larger set of Type Ia supernovae from across the universe scientists will be able to refine our existing map of space and time, getting a fuller picture of dark energy's influence.

"The universe expanding is like a rubber band being stretched. If dark energy is not constant, that would be like stretching the rubber band by different amounts at different points," says Möller. "I think in the next decade we will be able to constrain whether dark energy is constant or evolving with cosmic time. Rubin will allow us to do that with Type Ia supernovae."

Every night Rubin Observatory will produce about 20 terabytes of data and generate up to 10 million alerts—no other telescope in history has produced a firehose of data quite like this. It has required scientists to rethink the way they manage rapid alerts and to develop methods and systems to handle the large incoming datasets.

Rubin's deluge of nightly alerts will be managed and made available to scientists through seven community software systems that will ingest and process these alerts before serving them up to scientists around the world. Möller, together with a large collaboration of scientists across expertises, is developing one of these systems, called Fink.

The software systems collect the alerts from Rubin each night, merge Rubin data with other datasets, and using machine-learning, classify them according to their type, such as kilonovae, variable stars, or Type Ia supernovae, among others. Scientists using one of Rubin's community systems, like Fink, will be able to sort the massive dataset of alerts according to selected filters, allowing them to quickly home in on the data that are useful for their research.

"Because of the large volumes of data, we can't do science the same way we did before," says Möller. "Rubin is a generational shift. And our responsibility is developing the methods that will be used by the next generation."

Over several years, I've craved to make a videogame. I've mostly given up on Day one or two, usually after failing to get my motivation lifted up off the ground.

This time, however, I want to get things right. Make a game. Even if it's bad, even if nobody plays it. I must leave my mark on this world through the game.

The working title is Tactics Menagerie, a game that will blend Monster Catching growth, evolution and party management with top-down, turn-based strategy combat.

The brief of it - breaking the conventions I learned in College by referencing other games - is a mix between Pokemon and Fire Emblem.

You will catch your party as you travel by duelling them one-on-one. Once you best the creature, they will join your retinue, and from there, you can fight other NPC's or players (yes, my intention with this is multiplayer) in a turn-based setting.

The preliminary themes are medieval, with sprinklings of High and Low Fantasy elements. It will not be as bright and colourful as Beastieball or Cassette Beasts or Pokemon, but I don't aim to make it carry themes as dark as Temtem's.

Over the coming days I will be posting updates on learning Godot (the engine of choice), concept art and other concept art pieces and game design documents as we go along.

Once the project is in a playable demo state, I will be distributing it amongst friends for gamefeel testing, then do something akin to an open alpha test.

After that, my aim is to make a business to trade under (so I can legally begin selling it), and seeking artists who may be interested in the project.

My aim is to self-publish to Steam, but if the project begins to eat into my life and my personal finances (which I doubt, but we never know), then I will pitch the game to companies I have in-mind.

Garcia: has a private insta. She probably has her own server on Mastodon and/or she uses BSky. As I said on the tags before, I fully believe Garcia has a neocities and a bearblog, and it's all very cute/glittery and she posts a lot of tutorials and help people out. She's probably part of the free software movement.

Emily: had/has a tumblr nobody (except Garcia) knows about. She mostly posts about sci-fi and literature, sometimes art. I also think she would make those posts explaining how to get certain services from the government; every once in a while she'll post or correct an information about self-defense tips for women

JJ: private insta. she also has an account on reddit, which she uses mostly to judge if people are the asshole or not, and later in evolution uses it to learn about IA and stuff.

He also has a twitter, which he posts in every once in a while, mostly to fact-check info that's going on about profiling and talking about cooking. And I bet he did once the "I was one of the founders of the BAU, AMA." on reddit before a book came out as part of the marketing for the book. I can also see him showing up in streamings (either youtube or twitch) and playing something silly like Fortnite and being really fucking good at it.

Alex: has a blog where she talks about literature and weird things she's fascinated about. She doesn't use her actual name on the blog though, cause she doesn't want her students to find her. (Garcia makes Blake a part of her webring and help her set an guestbook on her blog so people can send her a message)

Tara: Private insta (she most posts stories though, nothing on the feed). Also a twitter account that doesn't have her name or picture on it and no mentions of her real life and she mostly post memes and comment on stuff. She might be even a little internet famous with that account.

Luke: Has 2 insta accounts. One, private for him. The second is for Roxy and she's famous.

Matt: private instagram account is mostly pictures of kids and wife. Has some pictures of himself being silly taken by his kids.

Some thoughts about the world's current situation:

So this is a post that was supposed to be put out much earlier but due to IRL matters, I just couldn't push myself to write it. It's a bit unusual as it is not something I usually write about, in fact, a subject that I try to stay away from the best that I can on this blog to provide a bit of escapism from such topics but given the world's evolution, more precisely in the "Western world" but other places on this planet as well, and how people are reacting to it, I thought it would be important to give my perspective for people who are a little bit lost by all that's been happening.

Keep in mind, this is written by someone who lives in France. So my perspective on events is probably very different from someone who lives in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, South America, Asia, etc etc... But I do think that despite differences in perspectives, we will still agree on aspects of this post.

Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic, it feels like everything has been going for the worse & let's be honest, it has. Between wars, conflicts, ongoing genocides & ethnic cleansing, climate change getting more & more extreme, countries shifting towards dangerous ideologies & way of thinking whether religious or political especially far right ones with an inclination for authoritarianism, rights constantly getting taken away, everyday life getting more & more difficult, IA being a huge problem for the world and the future (plus countless others) and being constantly bombarded by it probably makes it difficult to project into the future and have hope for any of it. And it's a pretty normal reaction to have really, especially when you look at the sheer scale of it.

This was to be expected given the nature of capitalism, liberalism and any type of supremacy that may exist at the moment or have existed, as we had many examples of their flaws, shortcomings and horrors all these systems have brought into the world. Most of the problems we have today were already present long before the COVID-19 pandemic was even a thing, the "western world" or "richer" countries just did not care to talk about it until it affected them, had something to gain from it &/or people made a lot of noise about it. And some us were too young at the time to care or realise what was truly happening or not even born at all.

Luckily, and this is my own point of view, it's not very objective but I think there's quite preceding & existing elements for what I'm about to say: these oppresive systems and problems tend to not last forever. That might be naive and tone deaf given everything that's happening right now but the fact that more & more people everyday are ringing the alarm about what's going on is a proof of what i'm saying here. There comes a point where these systems crumble because their very own nature makes it unsustainable and impossible to last forever, a long time perhaps but not forever because ultimately it goes against our own nature as living beings and is unsustainable in the long run as I said.

Fascism, capitalism, oppression, restrictions, etc, etc; is something that's never really meant to last because people get sick of it at some point and want to see it fall as we are made to not be controlled and restricted in our way of living. Now it's likely that it may get worse before it gets better but none of this will be able to last as one day, everyone will want to knock those down or the machine itself will destroy it's own way of working.

That is why, as it's something I've seen for a while now, don't kill yourself over these systems and people that reinforce them. It's highly likely you will outlive them, your descendants will and/or the other things you care about as well will. Suicide should not be an option as you are giving them a victory here and you are wasting a life where you could have an impact, on your scale, on everything that's been happening and will happen. You can give much more to the world than you realise and that can & most of the time happens outside of the rules of these systems but also, you don't have to play that game & you can focus on what matters to you instead of falling in line and feeding the machine because you think there is no choice now anyway; that is not true.

Whether it's because you're disabled, queer, a person of color or anything that puts you out of the norm, you have value and potential that exists and live outside of those systems so don't lose hope as you are not alone and they are other people like you that exists and want a change about those things. But that includes people who also may fall into the norm or people who have lost a sense of purpose but hate the way things have been going or are evolving and ALSO want a change.

It is also fine because of the way your life is right now, if you're not able to focus on such issues, can't do anything or want to do anything because you want to focus on your personal life and needs more than constant fighting. Not everyone is able to make those sacrifices and put so much energy into it if it's likely you will not see results yourself. If it's far too dangerous and you don't feel like it's worth it, do not force yourself and don't throw your life away if you feel like it won't mean anything or won't bring you any satisfaction.

But if you can fight, if you can change things, whether it's voting (local elections are extremely important guys!), manifestation, helping people or animals in need, disobeying unjust laws hell even fighting your own government or other governments, donating, working in politics, volunteer work or humanitarian missions, journalism whatever you can do with the little power, energy &/or privilege you have, you can do it to do good, change your life & those of others. It's hard and it's likely going to die but at least, you will one day leave this life and realise you've been on the right side of history.

If you still can do any medical check about your health, if you can save money do it, admit the feelings or things you've wanted to say to someone you love, whether it's a family member or a friend or someone you care about, do it before it's too late so that any weight is lifted, if you can move to a safer place for you life, try to see if you can & do it. Don't accept a life that will bring you down and make you unhappy, do the things you need to do before it's too late. But if you aren't able to do right now, that's okay and if you think you don't need to do it, that's fine as well; everyone moves at their own pace and have different needs.

And again don't take your own life away because you think there is no hope or choice anymore. There's always hope and choices to make.

I hope this reaches out to the people that need it and this will inspire them to do whatever they need or want to do and find what may help them go through this life without taking away the potential they have with it.

I love my Swans of Miséricorde lore being mixed with IA and transhumanism plots. It makes sense for Kaeleena, as a neurosurgeon, to work closely with the organizations developing that type of technology. As for Gaya, she is on the field with the soldiers that have been born as advanced humans, for espionnage and assassination missions. I can imagine a point where human and humanai cannot coexist anymore, humanai being above human, they're the evolution. A war starts. Kaeleena stands on the side that wants to keep controlling humanai, the powerful scientists who act like God and have enslaved gjd humanai. Kaeleena ans the scientists want them to go back to being dominated even though it means exterminating them all and starting over with a more obedient breed of humanai. Gaya would stand on the side of the humanai, to her, they should have rights too. Gaya would get shot in the head on the field though by the rivals, and fall in flames. The only way to save her could be to replace the pieces of her damaged brain with synthetic pieces of brains originally developed for the humanai. Her left arm as well is replaced, her damaged ribs and burnt muscles from her legs. She now is half human half humanai, intellect and strength even more enhanced, she sees everything more clearly now. Sadly it's tearing herself from the inside, it's insanity to live with a brain of half one half the other, she thinks of ending her days, she didn't want to get revived but she can't step back. She keeps fighting for the humanai, they win. Gaya has to kill Kaeleena herself or else, Kaeleena won't stop. A new era begins. An era where the humanai are in charge now, they change the world accordingly, in a cyberpunked universe.

The program also would enable astronomers to search for the most distant Type Ia supernovae— exploding white dwarf stars that are the 35 best-known standard candles for measuring the universe's recent expansion rate. CANDELS could thus test whether Type la supernovae are also a valid yardstick for the early universe.
