Boy do I know that feeling, haha!
Pushing through those blocks and writing something anyway, even if it's not good, strengthens you as a writer, because you're training yourself not to depend on inspiration.
As a professional creative IRL whose paycheck depends on being able to come up with cool creative ideas and creative work every day, I can't express how valuable it is to get to a point where you don't depend on inspiration.
Push through! You can do it! 🎉

FFxivWrite2017 Week 1 Recap
Hey, writers! Week 1 of the FFxiv 30 Day Writing Challenge is complete and I was just astounded by how many people participated, holy cow!
758 entries were submitted for week 1!
Because I love numbers and data, I whipped up a quick chart for y’all depicting a prompt entry break down:
Because so many people are participating, I’ve decided to up the participation prize! Because you all deserve good things.
More Participation Prizes!
Originally, I was planning on drawing a single winner (via random number generator) for the whole 30 days who would win a stylized black & white drawing of a scene from one of their entries.
I will still do that! But, I will also draw one name at the end of each week, for just that week’s participants, who will win a stylized black & white portrait of one of the original characters that they wrote for in their entries!
Week one′s winner will be announced soon!
It’s not too late to join the project!
Week 2 is underway, and you’re invited to write about your original FFxiv characters!
More info about the FFxiv 30 Day Writing Challenge can be found here
All Prompts released so far can be found here
All entries submitted so far can be found under the #FFxivWrite2017 tag
Don’t be discouraged! <3
Remember, there are no length or skill requirements. Songs, poems, stories – anything in written form is welcome! This challenge is made for you in an effort to give you a chance to brush off the ‘ol writing chops and have some fun!

FFxivWrite2017 Week 4 Recap
Hey, writers! This week’s recap is a few days late so that I could give people whose entries I missed a chance to send me the links and have them counted in the breakdown. So thank you for your patience!
Week 4 of the FFxiv 30 Day Writing Challenge has concluded, and with that we are finished! Amazing work, everyone!! I am so impressed!

437 entries were submitted for week 4!
Including 24 Thanksgiving Day make-up entries.

7 Artists have volunteered to add to the Participation Prize at the FFxivWrite2017 project’s conclusion
That’s right! The Participation Prize has gone from 1 single prize winner at the end, to 1 weekly prize winner and 7 prize winners at the end!
If you are an artist in the FFxiv community who would like to offer your skills to one lucky drawing winner at the end, shoot me a message and let me know! There is absolutely no pressure, of course. Art prizes can be simple as the point of this project is to all write together – not to get cool art. ^_^ Fancy screenshot edits count as prizes, too!
WEEK 4: weekly participation prize winner is @smokespun
Congratulations, friend! @smokespun wrote a total of 8 entries during week 4 (since the last week had an extra day) and was randomly selected from all those who participated for that week. They will receive a stylized black & white portrait drawn by yours truly!
More information about the participation prize drawings can be found here
Final participation prize winners will be drawn this week
Stay tuned for a list of lucky winners – one of which could be you!

Thanksgiving Day is a freebie day! ~ #FFxivWrite2017
Hey, Writers! The FFxiv 30 Day Writing Challenge is underway, and I want you all to know that:
There will be no writing prompt on Thanksgiving Day!
Instead...
You can submit 1 old prompt on Thanksgiving Day and it will be counted towards the participation prize, despite being late!
It is totally okay for your to write you catch-up post early and then queue it to submit after 12:00pm PST on Thanksgiving Day – that way you can enjoy the perks of taking a break from writing and still catch up a bit!
Here are all of the prompts that have been released so far!
Happy Thanksgiving, friends!

So how does the participation prize work anyway...?
The FFxiv 30 Day Writing Challenge is underway, and BOY has the response been great!
I’ve noticed an increasing number of “oh no I’m late!” tags in entries, so I thought I’d make this post to ease your minds and hopefully take some of that pressure off you, writers!
What is the participation prize, again?
A stylized black & white scene of your choice drawn by yours truly! Here’s my art tag if you want to take a gander.
Do I have to write every single day in order to be considered for the participation prize?
Nope!
Each time you you write an entry (on time) and tag it with #FFxivWrite2017, your tumblr name is entered into a drawing for the participation prize.
So, if you write 30 entries and publish each on time for the 30 days, then you have 30 chances at the prize!
If you write here and there as you have time and end up publishing 7 entries, then you have 7 chances at the prize!
And so on~
It is, essentially, a raffle drawing! And each entry you publish (on time) is one more ticket that you’re putting into the raffle.
What are the daily entry deadlines again?
There are no deadlines for the first week (until prompt #8 posts)! So, if you’re reading this on or before November 7, 2017, then you have time to play catch up for the first 7 prompts, and as long as you tag them and publish before noon (PST) on November 8, they are on time!
After noon (PST) on November 8, the Noon-to-Noon rule goes into effect: each new prompt is posted at noon (PST), and you have until 11:59am to complete and publish your entry in order for it to be counted towards the prize drawing.
What if I publish posts late?
Late posts will be read, liked, and still as much a part of this community project as posts that are on time! There are absolutely no consequences for publishing a post late – other than that this singular late post won’t be counted towards the participation prize.
All of the posts that you publish on time will count towards the prize, even if you also post a couple of late ones.
Publishing a late post will not automatically disqualify you from the prize, so don’t worry!
When will you draw the winner of the participation prize?
Sometimes in the first week of December, 2017!
I hope that clears some things up for you all and helps your feel less pressure!
Remember that there are no length requirements, so if you’re starting to feel tired but you really want to keep writing something every day, try something super short! Single paragraph entries count!

About single word prompts: what the heck should you do with them??
Hey writers! I've had a couple of people shoot me messages saying that they're confused by the FFvix 30 day challenge single word prompts and that they're not sure what to do with them. As nearly all of the prompts for the next 30 days are single word prompts, I thought it would be good to make a quick followup post explaining!
For all single word prompts, I recommend looking the word up on dictionary.com and then using the meaning of the word to inspire what you write. If the basic definition doesn't do it for you, try looking up synonyms and related words on thesaurus.com and see if that inspires anything.
The prompts are all extremely short in an effort to keep its interpretation potential broad enough for you to do anything you want with it! There is no wrong way to interpret the words, and you're not required to use the word in your prompt if you don't want to either.
So, don't sweat it! Have fun and do whatever you'd like with each prompt! 👍👍

PSA about showing up in the #FFxivWrite2017 tag!
Hello again, writers! I received a message today from someone whose posted entry was not showing up in the FFxiv 30 Day Writing Challenge #FFxivWrite2017 tag despite having used the correct tag. Fortunately, with a little problem solving, we figured out what the problem was!
In order for your FFxiv 30 Day Writing Challenge entries to show up in the #FFxivWrite2017 search results, make sure that you’re settings enable people to find your blog!
@theduplicitousdame was kind enough to make a quick screen cap tutorial of the settings for us. Thanks, Naharé!

...scroll down a bit, and then...

If you’ve already posted your entry but your settings weren’t set up for me to be able to find you, no worries! Simply adjust your settings then shoot me a message to let me know! I’ll make sure it’s showing up and give it a like!
Signal boost, if you’re willing! I’d hate to miss an entry that’s been properly tagged. :}

The #FFxivWrite2017 participation prize keeps growing!
So, after adding more of my art to the table in response to seeing just how many people are participating, other FFxiv artists have begun sending me messages asking if they can offer up a simplified piece as additional prizes at the end of the writing challenge as well! :o
And who am I to say no??
If you’re a FFxiv artist and you’d like to contribute your talent to the final prize drawing for the FFxiv 30 Day Writing Challenge, shoot me a message!
The participation prizes currently include:
A weekly random drawing for a stylized black & white character portrait, done by me! (so, 4 portraits total by me)
One final random drawing at the end of the challenge for a stylized black & white illustrated scene, done by me!
One or more additional random drawings at the end of the challenge for simple/stylized character portraits done by a few other FFxiv artists
There’s no pressure at all to offer up your skills as an artist, of course! Only do it if it sounds like fun to you. ::thumbs up::

Reminder: you can catch up on prompts until prompt #8 posts!
Happy weekend, writers! The first three prompts for the FFxiv 30 Day Writing Challenge are live, with the 4th going live at noon PST tomorrow (Saturday), and I have to say – the response has been INCREDIBLE!!
For those of you who would like to catch up~
There are no deadlines for the 1st week (until prompt #8 posts)!
Which means that you can backtrack and submit entries for all prompts that you’ve missed (prompts #1 – #7) and they will all be counted towards the participation prize!
After prompt #8 posts, the noon to noon deadline will go into effect
Each new prompt posts at 12pm PST. You will have until 11:59am the following day to submit your entry in order for it to be counted towards the participation prize.
Late entries will still be read & cherished!
They simply won’t be counted toward the participation prize, but that’s all! Any, and all, entries that you write are a part of this community project, whether they count towards the prize or not.
Keep up the excellent work, my friends. Look at you, being a badass writer! :D

When it comes to the writing contest, I've had a day or two where I really struggled with the one-word prompt and ultimately delayed or declined to answer. Does skipping a day disqualify us? Will there be make-up days offered?
Don’t worry! Skipping a day definitely does not disqualify you from either the weekly, or project’s end, participation prizes.
Every entry that you post within the 24 hours that it’s new will be counted towards prizes, whether it’s 1 entry for the week or 7 entries! \o/
As far as make-up days go, I’m glad you asked! Thanksgiving Day will be a freebie/make-up day for anyone who missed some entries. More details on the make-up day can be found here!
